Hi all - I've flashed the Super Clean ROM v0.4 by jt1134, but I'm finding that I much preferred the stock music player, and noticed a lack of "ThinkFree Office" in this release, which got me to thinking;
Is there a place to download optimized, deodexed, zipaligned, [insert optimization buzzword here] apks for every one of the stock apps that were included with the Fascinate? Something we can just adb push onto our customized ROMs after the fact?
Again, I'm thinking mostly of the music app and ThinkFree office (I know I can download a free version... was the stock app the for-pay version, or was it the free "lite" version?), but I know that some people also like the stock mms app, etc.
Thanks!

I was just going to start looking for the deodexed system dump. I, too, miss the stock music player. Anyone got a link, and will it work with JT's rom? And how should we install it? Using a file manager, pushing it with adb, or putting it somewhere with root explorer?
I need this ro try and push the stock market app. The froyo update won't download apps.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Stock music player, messaging app and alarm clock is what is keeping me from using this Rom

+1
I kinda miss being able to skip or replay songs from the dropdown bar.
Having NFS back would be nice too
frostman released a set already:

You can just pull stuff out of the zip.

Or you can DeOdex your system manually I have used this method and it works, Only exception is at step "5. IMPORTANT: After you have run option 3, you MUST navigate to the xUltimate folder and find "origi_frame" folder, and delete "vzwlbs.odex" (instead of this file that does not exist on a Fascinate - "guava.odex".) It's a bad file, and interferes with deodexing process."
I was actually going to request the stock calender apk. The samsung one looks better but takes away too much functionality. I guess they really do like apple haha. I need to know what's next on my schedule without remembering to look for it.
Jt has been slowly adding some of the stock apps as well as some of the AOSP apps to the "extra" folder in ROM manager. I'm guessing if there is enough interest in adding an app he would be willing to provide it. I'm fairly certain that donations to his "beer fund" would help prompt interest.
Jt hangs out in #Samsung-fascinate on freenode a lot, you could *politely* request that he add an app there.
i copied ClockPackage.apk and Mms.apk from frost's rom to /system/app and it all worked. I got back stock versions of both, I believe if you rename DeskClock.apk to DeskClock.apk.bck or delete it you can remove altogether JT's clock.
I wonder where the Verizon stuff is, like the info app that shows you minutes/texts/data used.

I'd like this app as well, if you're able to get it working. I'd try it myself, but I'm at work ATM.
I think its this "I500_MyVerizon_05202010.apk" I saw it in the full system dump. However that dump is not deodexed and from original release. don't know if it would work and don't wanna screw up my system.
You should be able to grab them from a system dump.
The fascinate stock apps that are not included in frosty's zip were never odexed in the first place.
The way frosty's zip to deodex works is by removing the odex files, and replacing the corresponding apk with the deodexed versions.
Can you just take the apk from the dump and install it? I need thinkfree back as well. Does this work or do you have to get the apk and odex file from the dump and paste into the system/app folder?
I remember having a deodexed rom on my D1 and installing apps from the market with no problems. Can I just add the apk to my sdcard and install?
Thanks
I would just copy them to system/app
I do not know if any of them are actually installable if you just run, them on your phone.
If it doesn't have an odex in the system dump, it probably doesn't need one.
I like the file manager "my files" that comes with the stock rom. I might get heat for this, but its nice to have that already installed and or a zip to install via clockwork for other roms.

Thanks. I did not notice an odex so I moved it to system/app and rebooted. Works great. Thanks!
I remember the dialer before i upgraded to ICS had a tab at the top for contacts, i could click that and find the contact i wanted, hell i could even send a SMS from there by swyping the contact name to the side...
The new dialer for ICS has contacts listed under the menu button, meaning its one more keypress to get there. It just doesnt "flow" as well, if that makes sense.
Im wondering, has anyone else noticed this? how can i get back the old dialer? Are there any good tweaked ICS roms that have this (and other) improvements? Im sorry but search didnt come up with anything and this place is crazy (two android development sections!?!) i couldnt find anything when i searched that met what im looking for.
Im currently running XXLPQ stock
hey there, i am using resurrection remix 1.4 w/ siyahkernel3.1rc6, and the dialler app for ics has contacts at the top of the dialler if thats what your looking for? its got 3 tabs, dialler, recent calls, contacts
That's exactly what inn looking for, any chance you can post the dialer apk for me?
i will do a titanium backup and see if i can get hold of my apk
EDIT: the two files i attached, put it in sd card, titanium backup... i THINK this will work, i would to a nandroid backup just to be sure, then try restoring the apps (search for phone in titanium)
pm me if i dnt reply to this thread
No go on the titanium backup, didn't wanna show up in my list, i cleared my titanium folder so there was nothing else, put the files in, restarted, start TB, no backups found for the dialer.
Try using root explorer and finding your dialer apk and post that? I can manually replace the file
thats the thing its not called dialler lol, its called phone, and seems to be fragmented into two parts =S lol let me see if i can find someting else
EDIT: try un g zipping the file so it shows an APK file and try pushing it to the system maybe? or installing it
EDIT 2: i managed to extract these apk's from the resurrection remix rom:
contacts, contactsprovider, phone, phonesky
hope it helps
Perhaps both Phone.apk (and .odex if applicable) and Contacts.apk (and .odex if applicable)?
my bad let me find .odex
EDIT: cant find .odex but try push the above found in system (on the rom.zip)

You don't have Phone.odex and Contacts.odex? That means YOU'RE on a deodexed ROM... But IF the other guy who is requesting the files is on an odexed ROM, he will have an extra step of removing the applicable .odex files. But he may already know that. (and it's always recommended to back anything up that you may end up needing again if you remove it)

I had that problem with "Resurrection rom 1.1" and believe me you better re-flash the ROM than s***ing with .apk-s... Didn't work for me so if you don't want to flash again you may use exDialer from the market, it's a good app, has the "swipe" functions and ICS themes, I used it for a week before switching to RR 1.4.
Ya def need one with an odex file...

No... you don't.
Back up the .apk file you intend to replace, along with their corresponding .odex file. Then REMOVE the .odex file and replace the .apk.
For example, if he gives you Phone.apk, and you have Phone.apk and Phone.odex, then COPY your original copies of Phone.apk and Phone.odex to a safe place, then delete Phone.odex, and replace your existing Phone.apk.
I've done this before, and used a deodexed Phone app on my odexed firmware.
Tried that but it didn't seem to work, after restart i lost service and couldn't dual out and had several other services complain on me, perhaps it's not comparable with my system?

If his version of Android is different than yours, then his apps probably wouldn't work for you.
Going back to read the thread, he said he is on Resurrection Remix 1.4. Looking at the thread for that ROM, it is AOKP based, with elements from CM9. What firmware are you on? You said you're on ICS, but you never mention specifically what ROM. Are you on stock? Then yeah, his apps probably won't work for you.
damn a shame it wouldnt work, try out go dialler tho if you want quick contacts access, from the dialler you just have to swipe to change to contacts... i used to use it but the themes arent as good as the ones we have lol
That would explain it I'm running LPQ stock...

I've not seen any mods for stock ICS to have this. A quick google search also turns up nothing for stock ICS.
So if you absolutely want this in ICS, you will need to flash a custom ROM.
EDIT to add: I should rephrase; you also have the option of using a third party dialer that has contacts integrated. But if you want to have the dialer that is included in the ICS ROM to have the contacts tab, you'll need to flash a custom ROM.

I would be fine with a custom rom based off one of the samsung sources but i dont frequent this side very often (usually on the asus transformer forum) to know which are good and which to avoid. Any suggestions?

Not from me, I'm on stock.
Dialer messed up
I don't know others , but this really bother me.
Any solution without using a custom ROM ?
We have managed to replace all of the stock apps with AOSP versions- I did QUITE a bit of research and found two POSSIBLE solutions, but I'm missing something to make it work.. first what apks do I need to get to replace the stock dialer/contacts of HTC roms? I know contacts(isn't dialer included in this?), I'm assuming ContactsProvider.apk.. what about dialer.apk or phone.apk? Where would be a good source to get the aosp apks for our 4.0.3 rom? We got ours from post 7 and 12 here, but I think we are missing some.. they worked flawlessly with every other app replacement though.
Then how do I get them to work properly? I found two possible methods:
Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219029 it describes how to get the packages.xml just fine, and I have mine(attached in thread) but I can't seem to figure out what I need to change, or decompile the manifest.xml for the files I have tried to replace..
Another thread explained that the replacement files need to be signed by the same key, so I scanned all the APKs and found out which had the same key, signed those with the apps I was trying to install, and it WORKED.. sort of. Either I didn't properly remove the htc dialer/contacts or I didn't find the right aosp apk's to replace them with-- it booted, but the contacts and dialer didn't show up at all(it did however associate phone and contacts with 3rd party replacements I had installed)
You wouldn't be helping JUST ME- no one has been able to do this successfully yet. If anyone can give me a definitive method, or even a good direction to go, this will help all of us in multiple ways(may even help me with building our CM too)!
I don`t like at all the all black background and UI fo the TW email app so I would like to replace the email app from ICS/ JB stock ROM with the stock Google one.
How can I do it and do you have the stock apps to share?

I agree and have been looking for the mail.apk that comes with JB, im assuming you replace the original crappy Sammy one with the apk using a root explorer type app.
The black and white of the Samsung app is just not readable in my opinion; the stock JB is great
yes you can change it through root explorer or es explorer, you can find the apk of the email for ics or jb, then you have to replace also the exchange.apk as if it supports the stock android apps. make sure you fix the permissions too. I'm using stock as I hate the sammy mail
Ok i've uploaded them for you,
Make sure to backup the exchange.apk and mail.apk
use a root file explorer,
/system/app/
Place them their and make sure you fix the permissions.
thanks. are they ICS or JB?
I zipped the original ones with root explorer then deleted and pasted the new ones. but before I could set permissions my phone froze completely and I cannot do anything more now.
any advice?
They are ICS, but they are almost exactly the same as the JB,
you need to replace them after backing up, make sure that you set the permissions the same as every other apk in the system/app/ folder, after you finish everything restart your phone and it should work perfectly, if anything doesnt work perfectly, then go to recovery and go to fix permissions, it should sort everything out.

A gentleman and a scholar! thanks for saving the use of search to find those two apk files:good:
coming back, a complete tutorial (and apps) can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728308.
it worked nicely for me!
also thanks to awsy44.
Well, my girlfriend updated her Galaxy S3 a couple of days ago, and suddenly the gallery wouldn't work. It just showed up as com.sec.android.gallery3d in the app drawer. I've done everything in my power, even rooted the damn thing, but nothing seems to work.
Amidst my ferocious attack on the problem I seem to have gotten rid of the "faulty" gallery apk and can't find a good one via google that works.
Odd thing is that at first the com.sec.android.gallery3d app was missing from /system/app. When I did a search for "gallery" I found SecGallery2013.apk that was called "com.sec.android.gallery3d" in it's properties. Kind of like a symlink I think.
That original SecGallery2013.apk is now gone with the wind for some reason (my ADHD took over a while). I actually found a com.google.android.gallery3d that works (but not original) and com.sec.android.gallery3d-2be92cef98aab5194d4ae68382324577.apk (took away the number at the end of course) that seems to be the original, but crashes constantly.
I'm at a loss, hence why I did the topic name "need stock apk", as that might fix things.
Though somewhere on the filesystem (I'm still somewhat of a noob as to how android is built) there were once a folder called com.sec.android.gallery3d which is not there anymore. Any attempts at installing the apk has, obviously, also failed.
I've read almost every other possible solution, but all of them seem to be under the impression that I would have the sense to backup every single thing...
Help!
What android, firnware are you running right now?
You can get the gallery app from any STOCK BASED flashable zip (many lite version roms available in this forum). Just open the zip, look under system/app or something similar, take the apk file, put it in system/app of your own phone with rw-r-r permissions, then reboot.
Stock system apps can't be just installed, they must be manually placed in system/app directory.
Try to flash Google Apps from CWM or TWRP (I assume you already flashed CWM or TWRP with Odin)
A brief explanation of Google Apps:
Apps like Play Store, Gallery, Camera, etc... Or the stock proprietary software made by Google are all in this one zip file called GApps, All you need to know is how to flash ZIPs (easy as 1,2,3) and the GApps for your android version.
Other options:
Find another 3rd party Gallery alternative from Google Play (EASIEST)
Flash CyanogenMod or an alternate ROM (Too risky just for getting gallery back)
Just get the images from the device to your computer
Well that's all I got, PM me if you need anything, hit "Thanks" if I helped you
