Hey everyone,
I've been a ...somewhat proud owner of a Samsung Vibrant since I broke my N1 about a year ago. (still miss it, ) But I think I've grown tired of it. I've flashed basically every ROM there is for it, I've broke a couple (thanks asurion,) and my general excitement for it has reached critical mass, I think.
I have a mate who would be more than willing to trade his HD2 (with a sd card kit) to me for it. I'd hate to bring a trivial life decision here, but I can't really decide off of reviews alone. Anyone have experience with both? Hopefully since Android has become stable on it. (I'd be dualbooting wm7 and android on the HD2.)
Thanks for any input.
Just be careful. I've seen more than my fair share of HD2's with heavy defective components. The digitizers and nand chips in general are what can be hit and miss. I'd stay with the Vibrant after owning both but that's just me.

+++++++1 my daughter went through two of them, biggest piece of crap I ever saw.
I'd pick the Vibrant but I may be biased. I've seen my share of HD2s and while great, they always seem to be eclipsed by a Vibrant in one way or another. It's a great phone though.
4co-workers of mine have HD2's onw guy went through 3, covered by warranty but still.... another guys phone locked up at T-mobile when he was in the process of purchasing it. he got a different one anyway and two days later it went unresponsive. the other guy never had any problems but his IS running android though. other guy, i dont know
A couple of friends own the HD2 phone and both of them don't like them. I'd go with the Vibrant anytime.
Glad to see others have experienced the same issues. I've never seen a phone be more prone to hardware defects than the HD2. HTC has a great reputation for producing great quality phones with superior build quality. Although from what I've seen, their phones are over engineered with cheaper connector and fastener technologies and the SGS line of phones is very easy to work on with pop connectors and minimal design. This design can be targeted as cheap but in reality, when working on one, it's more durable to not have to use plastic tweezers and apply light pressures to ribbon cable assemblies that loop around corners and what not. Just offering another view as a technician that sees over 130 phones a month with issues.
When I went to tmobile to buy a new phone I asked the store rep that exact question. Without hesitation he told me I would regret buying the HD2.
I bought the vibrant and never looked back.
Vibrant
Rom: Project-V
Kernel: Trying Immortality V2
Love it.
There is so much we can do on the vibrant and I think they have the best graphics, clearest screens, good speed, and I have always bought nothin but samsung phones cuz they r awesome. Lol

Wow... you guys are really hating on the hd2... The screen is nowhere near the vibrant but the phone is just alive. It is easily the most elegant phone to be release to this day and has never failed to astonish me with what the damn thing can do. Think about it... it began with POS windows software. Then came sd android builds, and eventually nand roms. Now it has flawless builds with the most vibrant(yeah I said it) community. Running wp7 mango, meego, and ubuntu... The thing really is an the best example of what capable hardware can do with xda. As much as I like my vibrants more advance hardware, the hd2 is more stable and the development more than makes up for it.
edit: having said all this the thing can crack easily with a fall...
i will try to Put here some positive and negative for both phones to make your decision easier:
Galaxy S + Variants:
Super Amoled Screen
Better GPU than iphone4, PowerVR SGX540 "Iphone has PowerVR SGX535"
Same 1GHZ
Better Battery 1500 mAh
Htc HD2:
Larger screen 4.3" but inferior lcd type one.
1st generation adreno 200 that by many ways inferior to PowerVR SGX540
Crappy battery Li-Ion 1230 mAh.
Larger community and support
Got a free hd2 for my daughter and flashed a nand rom the next day. She likes her hd2, but after she used my vibrant for a day ( we switched sims) i had a hard time getting my vib back. That being said a free hd2 is still not quite a purchased vib.

Hi
I had a Hd2 it is amazing phone and u can flash any android version on it they are all available roms, it is even easier than vibrant! i replaced it with vibrant because i wanted a pure android phone also because i was a flash freek some times i was flashing 2 Roms in one day and that because of the large number of available roms in the Hd2 forums, what i miss now is the HTC since it is much better than Samsung TW, actually Samsung TW is s**t, but what i love in vibrant it is light weight ,the size is perfect and the amoled screen, for me these are the only better things in vibrant.
I would like to add something, the only issue i faced on Hd2 is the voice apps like viper was causing issues on the phone and no one was able to solve it, i think it is kernel issue! I tried all the available builds and i had the same issue! Maybe it was only my phone! I don't know

stick with the vibrant bro, why change, the hd2 is super old.. and the screen sucks

I like both phones, and both have their ups and down.
I like both companies new iterations of their proprietary skins, Sense 4.0 looks great and TouchWiz (5?) has a bunch of new helpful features (and I like old ones such as swipe a name to call/message). The One X definately wins in the looks department but I don't think the SGS III is as ugly as most make it out to be. However I hear the battery life isn't so great on the One X, and a portion of the screen is wasted for an onscreen menu button due to HTC basing it on the layout Google set out (which is stupid I think, there's no reason to have a seperate multitasking button when holding down Home for 1-2 seconds works perfectly fine.)
All in all I think the SGS III offers more benefits to the user, even if HTC does win in certain areas (better looking, better camera, more refined interface). If I were actually buying one of the two I'd like to try them out side by side before making a final decision, but at this stage I'm going to say Galaxy S III.
S3 cuz of us storage mode and lte

I think htc is better software and design wise but the s3 might have better battery life and camera also samsung tends to have phone really lightweight but it just depends what you prefer : sense or touchwiz?

After using the sensation for about a month I had to get rid of it because of sense. I seriously do not like sense.. It really annoys me for some reason. I know that you'd probably be able to root it and custom rom the One X but to be honest i would much rather just go with the s3.
I would say the S3. I like every spec that it have. Im not going to say that the X One is a bad phone because it isn't, its a great great phone, but i just like Samsung more.

I like how Samsung is focusing on Software, why make a super pocket computer if you dont have good apps to exploit that power?
S-voice is something that should have been present on Android earlier...
The good thing is that is very probable to see all that software ported to other devices
I'm still very happy with my HTC Sensation XL, but if I would buy a new phone now it would definatly be the One X.
I was really looking forward to the Galaxy S III, but the plastic keeps me away again.

+1 my exact same thought. except i would never get caught holding a samsung phone.
Hello guys.
This is something I'm wondering about as I'm planning to buy a new device soon. I love HTC's build quality and the Legend was the best looking phone I've ever owned.
On the other hand, I'm currently using a Galaxy S i9000 which I absolutely hated out of the box but fell in love with once I discovered the great work by developers on this site.
Development for i9000 and Samsung in general is very active here. Could an HTC owner please tell me how it is on the other side of the fence? My decision will eventually come down to the availability of custom ROMS from XDA.

till recently and even now i have one HTC phone which is being used by my wife(very low end one) I can give it to u guaranteed their will be great development for any HTC phone u buy in fact to my knowledge XDA was and still is Famous for HTC development support . so cool man go buy any HTC phone ull have fun here
Another S3 vote here.
The only thing the HOX has over the S3 is the screen, and that's debatable depending on whether you prefer LCD or AMOLED and their accompanying traits.
Both great phones, but the S3 wins on processor/GPU grunt and software innovation.
The slight camera advantage that the HOX had has been demolished by Samsung copying it's main features and bettering them (burst mode, best shot, voice activated capture) - and Samsung cameras have always been pretty good hardware-wise anyway.
SD card support, removable battery, probably better battery life (than the Tegra 3 HOX), the list goes on - and that's even before you get into the software side of things which I won't bother with as I assume you have/are capable of looking all that up.

2nd times 10. Samsung phones feel so dang cheap you forget about what a good phone should feel like. I hated my GSII and went to the HTC One S and it is just night and day for me. I get signal in places I didn't before. The slim form factor and the build quality and just so superior. Never say never but I doubt I will be grabbing another Samsung. (Vibrant owner and GSII)
Obviously there is no perfect phone as I am not a fan of where they put the volume buttons and how large they are in contrast to the wake\sleep button but overall outstanding device. My good friend keep on about his One X and I see why. Sense has some really nice things about it. Twiz is the devil. Add to that Samsung's update issue and industry worse no looking back to support devices and that is enough for me. I am not saying they are wrong it just doesn't work for me going forward.
I really like the design & build quality of HTC One X.. Both are polycarbonate plastic but HTC did the right thing! But SGS III beats One X in almost every single category.. So SGS III for me.. I don't care about the design anyway since i will use casing.. lol

Hi, I'm now using iPhone 4 and i looked over android, i cant see now how i used iOS!?
now i looked for the best phone for me, and i chose gNexus, i liked the clear android over Sense and much over touchwiz! , i tried to get one and it didn't worked out (i want to buy my next phone in USA, i live in Israel and in USA its much(!) cheaper!)
so my sis going to NY in the next month, and that is my opportunity to get new phone. but then i realized the nexus has poor hardware, and im not sure is gonna last 2 years as main phone !
I'm considering the S3 which is beast in hardware , but going to be beast so its not going to be unique and that something i really want after iphone 4! another thing is that its not nexus, and the updates will come late! pros are battery , quad core , giant screen , 50g at dropbox)
another phone I'm thinking of is the One X, This phone is awesome!! its beautiful! Sense is beautiful!, its also a beast in hardware! but that's the end,
i heard that the battery is poor, its still heavy because the sense 4, the video frame rate is poor, and i even heard on poor performance on NOVA . so it turned me off..
im sorry for the long thread, but my next phone, and my first android phone is very important for me, its going to be my phone for the next 2 years.
Thank you very much XDA (BTW , i searched allot about every phone, but what i need here is personal experience , something that not always objective).
I would recommend checking out HTC. They have very productive, useful devices.

looks lame !
its look old and weak !
another suggestions?
So right now there's 3 phones you have your eyes on, but still open to suggestions.
I would suggest the Galaxy S III if you are looking for a phone for two years.
Galaxy Nexus is a very wonderful phone. Best selling point would be that its fast to get updates, but hardware is already dated since its been released over half a year ago.
HTC One X is beautiful, but that's all. Its beautiful, but doesn't really have any other features that would put it above the Galaxy S III. I see the One X as a device that's an improvement over the Galaxy Nexus in terms of speed and power, but nothing spectacular.
Galaxy S III on the other hand is comparable to the One X in terms of speed and most likely surpassing it in that field too. Beyond that, there are many other features that are equal to the One X and has quite a few features that the One X does not have.
I vote for the S III mainly because it offers more in terms of hardware and software.
I think Samsung Galaxy SIII or Nexus. Or wait for HTC One XXL.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Varience,
thanks for your helpful comment! you summarized the subject pretty good , i think i choose the SIII over the others, because he is the combination between good hardware and allot of Roms (im sure he will get allot of roms).
to ServeTT the HTC One XXL sound really good on paper !!! (but so do the one x)
when will he come out ?
the phone i really want, is the next nexus, all the benefits of the current awesome nexus plus hardware that last 2 years and not one thats already is old
I am quite against buying HTC devices. They don't support our development community and sense is hideous and slow. The only thing I like is their build quality ..
I would get a Samsung galaxy s3, touchwiz 5 jellybean and ics actually looks pretty good!. There buold quality is better for the s3, Plus Sammy supports our development
But over all I love the galaxy nexus phones the best cause they look so good and are pure . But maybe wait for the new nexus to come out, it will be the best phone in hardware and software. And will get all updates.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
HTC One X - OUT - by reading, its beautiful and thats it, its close, and not as good as others..
S3 or the next Nexus , That is the question!
When the next nexus predicted to be released ?
if more than month (that is almost sure thing),
i think it will be the S3, its the strongest hardware, and its development community have to be great!, thanks you all !

The Galaxy S3 is worth every penny I paid for it. It is also the most powerful phone on the market. It is a purchase that you won't regret.
The screen is hard to read in direct sunlight. The other issue I'm having is that it's hard to stop touching it.
I had an x10 way back about 3 years ago. That phone is like a motor scooter compared to this Ferrari.
The s2 is still an excellent choice if you want an upgrade while keeping costs down but bear in mind the s3 will last you longer before you need another upgrade.

You might also look at the Galaxy Nexus which Google sell for $350. It's only dual core, but it gets latest updates directly from Google, so unlike that Sony, even two years from now you will most likely get latest Android version.
However, if you want more storage space and a high quality camera, then the S3 is a better choice. It's going cheap on ebay also. The current retail price is more than I'm willing to pay because I'm not confident of its build quality.
Hi my girlfriend has birthday next month and she was talking latelly thank she'd like to have a smartphone because she'd love to surf internet on the go, listen to music ( she's using some old mp3 player atm ), check e-mail etc.
She's been using a classic candy bar phones for years and I was thinink that as her bday is comming I could get smartphone for her as a gift.
But I'm not really sure which model would suit a total newbie in the smartphone world ? She's never used a touch screen phone, she only played littlebit with mine Nexus 7.
I use HTC HD7 personally and it comes with Windows Phone 7 but i thought Android would be better for her because of more apps, etc.
Is there anything you could recommend ?
Battery life longer than 20h would be great ( mine HD7 last like 26-28h )
Thanks !
White Galaxy s II or III depends on your budget .
the smooth interface and lightweight design make these some of the best performing phones right out of the box to date battery life depends on usage but you can ussually get bout 16+ hours of normal use which is very good for android+ the large display. If it were me definetly the galaxy s III

How about something smaller ?
I think 4+ inch will be too big for her hands.
Mine HD7 is sometimes too big for me and my hands are bigger.

That Galaxy Ace 2 looks interesting I'll look into it. Thank you.
Any more models you could think of ? I'd like to have a bigger spectrum of choices.

I gave mine an HTC One S (blue), after having used the iphone 3gs for 2 year, she's very satisfied with the One S, great battery life too up to 5 days. Sense really is a great addition to android, especially for non-techies but if you get the one S be sure to get the snapdragon 4 variant not the the s3 variant.
From my experience , ladies that are generally not geeky prefer something that fits their hands, like some 3.7-4" htc. And on top of that if its pink... well, lets just say she'll be more than glad
I recently suggested htc wildfire to a friend of mine who never had android before. Shes now a successful convert to our beloved OS
Yup I've decided to go for Samsung Galaxy Mini 2.
Unfortunatelly resolution isn't the greatest but it's is a really nice little device. She had old nokia anyway so for her that resolution is going to be a huge step forward anyway.
Perfect size, nice and round edges and it's really good looking and it wasn's super expensive either. She'll be happy with it I'm sure.

My girlfriend has a Galaxy S (the original one) and she loves it. The fact that it's running Android meant she was able to turn the home screen and app drawer into a hideous mess of pink and sparkles...
I'd recommend skipping that for the S2 though. Absolutely AMAZING smartphone, near perfection, and you get ICS on it now so it's faster and more functional. I'd skip the Galaxy 'Ace' range as most people I know who have one struggle with it due to it being a little bit too underpowered for what it's trying to run.

Haha that happened to my girlfriends Iphone after i jailbroke it and taught her how to theme it. The next day she shows me her phone and its all baby blue and pink all over the place. I keep telling her all the theming stuff is easier on android but girls tend to like the iphone because it is more of a fashion accessory and dont tend to care too much about what their phone can do.
Well in some ways iPhone can do more though, there's way more on the app store, you just have less control over the fundamentals.
