4.1.2 official update - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys
samsung just released the 4.1.2 official update for s3
check it out
http://www.sammobile.com/2012/12/05...4-1-2-jelly-bean-update-lots-of-new-features/
this is not leak
it is official starting at Poland first

Didn't you just post this and got shot down?

no it looks like it is
http://www.gsmarena.com/newscomm-5166.php
so did ayone install this i tried but both the phone and kies say that im up to date (4.1.1 german or uk version of s3 dont know for wich country it is)

4.1.2 Update !! wow !!
Why the update is Polland first ? Why they are the country to recive update first ? I am jealous. Hope problems of Jelly Bean(4.1) fixes with this small update. The biggest problem was Battery drain issue I guess. Samsung must solve all those issues as soon as possible.

This time we are first Often we're the last
About rom, if comparing latest official stock rom&kernel this one is more smooth and battery drain isn't that bad. ~1,5h more on battery on this rom for me.

I just updated here in the States. My toggle to turn on data is now missing. Does anyone know how to toggle LTE on Jelly Bean?

Thanks for the heads up

How are you the last as i remember Poland also got the Jelly bean 4.1.1 update first...?

Yep, biggest problem i have with the 4.1.1 update was the slow battery charge bug. I hope they'll release it this Dec.

To toggle LTE you need to have proper phone. I9300 (for which this ROM is) does not have this feature....

[Q] Download ICS now, or wait for the Official version?

I was just wondering what you guys thought about ICS.
Is it worth downloading now, or would I be better off waiting for the Official Samsung release, whenever that may be?
Waiting for Samsung would mean that I would have to download, preferably, through Kies. However at the moment when I connect to Kies it tells me that my phone is unable to be updated through Kies... could someone help me out with that please?
Thank you in advance.
I would probably wait for an official release from Samsung. Some of the ics roms currently out are great for everyday use, but there are still some bugs.
You wouldn't have to update through kies when the official ics releases. Someone on xda will definitely make a flashable zip. Hope this answers your question.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Hello New_World_Order,
if I were you, I'd wait - not only because of existing flaws (maybe speed, battery or bugs), because it's unfinished,
but also because of the fact that not every app is running with ICS right now.
Many users are currently reverting back to GB and wait because their favourite navigation or something else does not work.
So waiting will have a lot of advantage...
Greetings Psy

Personally, I am enjoying using the latest Samsung's ICS leak, XXLPB, and I am definitely not going to Gingerbread. This ROM is pretty stable, and even TouchWiz looks better. However I understand that many apps are not optimised for ICS, and while some widgets don't support some of its alternative skins (Mobility Flow's Animated Weather Clock, for example). Nevertheless, if you prefer using official updates via Kies instead of trying the latest (and often unstable) leak flashable via Odin, it just may be not for you.
Thanks to the two guys above,

I really want to try ICS, and considering I won't be able to get ICS through Kies when it is officially released, I think I'll just go for it and try it out now.
I don't suppose you could post me the link for the XXLPB leak could you please?

Thanks a lot.
I found it on another site.
I'm waiting for the .zip file to download, then I'll do it and let you know the results.
Only problem being is it will take a while as I have to wait another half an hour after this file finishes downloading to then download the file needed to root it.
I'll come back in an hour or so!
I'll come back in an hour or so
Usually followed by HELP then how do i remove ICS .
But at least you have had a lick .

Make sure that it is full Samsung and no custom rom because you should first flash original one when you upgrade from GB.
Greetings Psy
I would recommend waiting.. I just installed an ICS rom and it keeps dying and booting on me..
It is recommended to wait, but you can try it now
Okay so I'm back.
ICS is installed, and I'm just using Titanium Backup Pro to restore all of my apps + data.
(Whilst I was writing this, Titanium finished restoring, or so it said, but there were no apps? Any idea as to why this has happened and how to fix it please?)
First look, I'm pretty shocked.
It's not much different compared to GB.
However, what has been added, is great. I love the way that double clicking the home button brings up a task centre type drop down with which you can close your apps. Great idea, similar to the iPhone.
Overall, I recommend waiting for the official release, but if you're impatient like me, then sure, go ahead and give it a go.
Not all apps are working on ICS but almost all do. I am happy with Resurrection Remix ics v9.4 Ultimate XXLPB 4.0.3 FULL-Wipe ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854. It is very stable fast and good battery. No way am I going back.

Well actually depends of what are you trying to do with your ROM, right now all are experimental and certainly had bugs, if you like testing flash now
Btw i'm using the Resurrection ROM of westcrip too and it's very stable.
Wait, wait, wait
while XXLPB is the most stable so far
it still has a long way
a lot of bugs
a lot of random restarts
not to mention not all applications are compatible
I took a look at the Resurrection ROM last night before hand, however the latest ICS was released so I went for that.
Everything works perfectly fine, the only thing missing is the flash player on the browsers, which im sure someone knows how to fix!
Overall it's quite good.
Testing the battery life today as that's important to me due to college 9-5 on most days.
I'll give you guys some feedback tonight about my first full day!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
If you are rooted or plan to root, I would recommend Westcrip's Resurrection ROM 9.3. Battery seems good so far, fast and almost totally bug free. The official ROM will not be totally bug free & probably heavier on the battery. The only drawback is many of the apps will not work with ics. If you have a problem and have followed the instructions for Resurrection, it's likely that the problem is an incompatible app.
My suggestion is go for it, it's better than Gingerbread and you can always install the genuine version when it comes out.

Yup that build is not a stable release eve from Samsung. They did not even care to make it lag free. I dont think there is anything you can do about this. The release is messed up. Try using some other custom roms!

4.3 is AWfFUL!

Upgraded to official 4.3 UK release, from an unmodded 4.2.2, and it's awful.
Lock ups, freezes, flickering screen, bluetooth failure and spontaneous reboots.
Undoubtedly the buggiest version of any mobile OS I ever had on anything.
My advice: Stay away from this piece of **** until the many bugs have been ironed out.
And to think that we're only getting 4.3 when really it should have been 4.4 straight away.
Shame on you, Sony!
Haven't had a single issue with mine and im on 4.3 bad flash maybe?

You could flash a custom ROM? I use pacman 4.3 or go with cm10.1 (4.2.2) or CM 10.2 (4.4.2 Kitkat)
I recommend the pacman. Has more tweaks and GPS works. Official cm GPS is not working but everything else does and both ROMs are very stable.
Can someone explain to me what the advantages of using stock fw on this device? I was pretty sure that there weren't any.

I tend to agree that it is probably a bad flash... I think the 4.3 update is the best yet for the Tab Z. Performance is up by atleast 2k points in Antutu and even daily use seems much smoother. No crashes or lockups till now and I've been using the tab non-stop since the update (without any kind of restart).

Have you done a factory reset after upgrade to 4.3 ?
I also had issues after upgrading, byt a friendly user here told me to try a factory reset - since that the only issue I have is random flickering when keyboard is active, everything else works like a dream
4.3 is Solid Stable and Smooth, don't have any single issue as mention by OP.
Complete reset on the device seems to have fixed the problems. Wasn't even able to back up with Sony Companion.
Happy for now (after a couple of hours or re-installing and re-configuring), but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I'm using pacrom now which is jb 4.3.battery is very good! I'll do a full battery drain and will post results sometime next week. I use greenify which im sure helps and use boot manager. This ROM also has a number of power saving options you can implement not found on cm ROMs under the pacrom settings. Its my daily driver. i really like this tablet! Took it snorkling today in Barbados, it doesn't float to well, luckly I still have it! had it out all day taking photos in the ocean, screen full brightness, was 70% when I got home. That's with No Bluetooth or WiFi. This ROM does a great job too of retaining juice when its in a suspend state. Very little drain

I have only 2 reboots playing n.o.v.a. 3 everything else is simply perfectly
My experience is that 4.3 blows, just as OP stated.
I did the initial update - lots of crashes/freezes.
So I did a repair - same issue
Then re-flashed using flashtool - still bad
And then flashed 4.2.2 - and tablet is back to its former glory.
What could possibly be causing some users to be having such a hard time with it, while others are loving it?
So strange how this has been happening. There must be something with some of the firmwares. I'm one of the people who have had no issue with 4.3

Installing a new Operation System on a old one, can cause problems and instability. That`s not Android or Sony specific.
The only issue I have experienced is the random screen flicker when using the keyboard... Hope there is a fix soon, or else I may have to look into whether there is a way to downgrade to 4.2.2.
New to the device, so not sure is there is a Sony equivalent to something like Odin for Samsung...

4.3 woes
I had problems with the 4.3 ota upate. Had screen flickering, especially bad when running chrome browser. and the pulldown notification shade was down and dimmed the back screen
random reboots, freezing. tablet was practically unuseable.
flashed my original firmware back over and all was working great again.
tried again with 4.3 and back to the same antics with it.
I have however reflashed a modified 4.3 with super user root and recovery built in and can say ive had no problems appart from occasional excessive battery drain from the kernel, a reboot usual fixes it.
Could it be the UK ftf that's more.buggy? I'm using Nordic and no issues on my end

To upgrade to 4.4 or not? .. that is the question.

I am about to buy a Galaxy Grand 2.
I am reading about people having problems after upgrading to 4.4
Of course people are writing asking for help for the problems they are experiencing ..
but, I have not read many posts about how much better 4.4 is.
So, should I upgrade or not? .. That is the question.
I'm in 4.4.2 NH6 and I don't face any problem .... There r certain bugs but they are leaving updates every month to fix it !
As per me It's one of the best Mid range phones

Well, at those early stages after Grand 2 got KitKat update, it was boring to update to KitKat because everything back then was compatible with 4.3, but I guess now a lot of cool stuff are compatible now! Except if you get that NH# update, your Wi-Fi might be buggy -_-
P.S_/ It has slight over heating issues if you live in a hot country like me D:

android m is coming to Alpha

So today I read that the galaxy alpha is on Samsungs short to list, for receiving the android m update. Great news I guess, for alpha owners. I thought that support for alpha also was discontinued, with the decision to stop distributing alpha phones. Perhaps they mean a3/5/7 as in galaxy alpha series, I'm not sure.
Source

A series has nothing to do with the Alpha.
I'm not surprised we will get the android M, I would be furious if we DON'T get android M!
The alpha is an almost flagship, it's introductionprice was high enough so it deserves at least 18months of updates.

Download 5.0.2 firmware from Sammobile and flash it with Odin.
I'll bet my soul the Alpha won't see M before Summer next year, it one of the forgotten phones from Samsung along with the Note 4 that now only just getting 5.1.1.
Tbh i wouldn't be suprised if they turn around at a later date and say the Alpha won't be getting Marshmallow.
