So i interested myself for one htc media link HD and ordered it for an total of €73,50 incl. package sent
Because of the different models im talking about de dg-h200 from htc. Yesterday order came in and i thought piece of cake plug and play. Well it isn't plug and play and for every other person outside xda it would be an hell to get it working. I won't give up easily but i almost was going too!
Turns out the device delivered has a firmware 1.5...something and when you connect it it all goes well till you have too swipe over you screen to sent it out to the television. Then he want to connect and somewere about 70 % of the setup he quits and says there is an additional firmware upgrade. Would you like to install this? Well hell yeah i will. So pushing the yes button will bring you to another message that says "there is no newer software , this is the latest !
Somewere else on the forum here a guy did get it working without an upgrade of the firmware! But after reading true the manual i found out it had to do with ip multicast. Simply said if your router only providing unicast signal an setup like my phone and the htc media link hd connected to the internet and connected to each other not going to work.
So here is what i did
* I disconnected my phone and router (By disconnecting i mean my phone doesn't know the router anymore)
* Made an whole new setup for the htc media link hd by pushing the button on the front for ten seconds
* setup my phone for an wifi hotspot and then swyped three fingers over the screen so that the phone will connect with the media link
* Offcourse it will prompt you with an update of firmware but now it will update because of the hotspot setup.
* Thought i was done setting up the hardware with this upgrade and made my phone connect with my router acces point again.
* The problem still occured as i was almost done with this media link and willing to send it back.
* But me never willing to give up give it another shot and set up my phone again as an wifi hotspot and swyped my display to connect again with
the media link.
* Again it prompted me with an firmware update as i thought whats going on i all ready did so. I thought what the heck lets update it again.
* When it was done i got amazed from the fact it does updated the media link device again to 2.99...something firmware version
* So i decided to hold the button for an reset for ten seconds again so it was ready for an new configuration.
* Also made my phone know my router acces point again and swyped over the screen again to setup again.
* And there you have it working not asking for an update and doing what he needs to do. ... ! Or not ?
Tested it with all sorts of media,
* games not going to work as wireless give the game an lag time for instance with pinball you push to make the flipper shoot the ball. and done with the media link setup you mis because of the lag time!
Pushed an movie from my synology nas server to my tv ( Not needed in this setup because i can play them well true my wdtvlive hub ) but for testing. It play well but yep there you have your lag again from the audio
* Internet works and browsing true the phone checking photo's works
* Youtube on the phone works without lag time in 1080p
* Did not had any movie on my phone to play so coudn't test that but i recon i will play okay
But all together it is fun to have for 10 minutes and i going to sell mine because of the total not use of it i know will happen!
But the least i coud do is write an review over this htc media link hd for you all ! Excuse me for my english as it is not my native language to speak/write

The mhl adapter I have is an off brand from Amazon. Cost 3 dollars. It doesn't work with the specified app on the phone but as soon as I plug it in and set my tv it's all right there. Is there advantages to the HTC branded one?

- plug in power and HDMI cable
-promt me for updating the firmware twice and it all went through
- swipe three fingers and the whatever on my HOX+ its on the tv
Youtube, Netflix all playing perfectly fine and I would say HD quality. phone have to be on wifi to be able to connect to the media link. and my home wifie DL 20MB/s

Help
Can you tell me how to make Htc Media Link HD working without firmware upgrade?
Sorry for my bad English.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I don't need help any more. My device worked
Hi all,
Sorry if I missed it in the replies, but which item is it that seems to work well with the HTC One X+? Can I get a link to it? Also, will it work with apps too or just photos and movies?
Thanks!
The wireless link should not use multicast traffic... I can't think of any home routers that would support that. Why, if your phone is only sending to the media link, would it even need to use a multicast destination... if it did, every device in your broadcast domain (i.e. your home) would receive the HD content. not particularly good.
I suppose, if HTC wanted it to work without any kind of discovery process then multicast would work.. but this, and the price of the unit has deterred me. Especially since you can get a $4 cable of ebay which does the same thing, just using a wire.
With regards to my specific question, should anyone else need help, I bought one of these for my HTC One X+ and it simply duplicates whatever is on the screen onto my TV via HDMI. Works great!

My media link worked great as well. Did an update once I can remember. During this time I was using an old HTC One sv to cast Netflix mainly. Since upgrading to an m7, my girl has an m8, everything still works fine, except Netflix! It works all the way up to choosing what to watch. As soon as the video starts to play, screen goes black, just audio, you can still see the play button, the timeline and other options to top right in the Netflix app but video is black until you stop playing. I have posted in a few other places (not XDA), have read couple more of the same problems with no one answering those posts either. Does anyone have A-N-Y idea why the video goes black when it starts to play in Netflix only?
Really about to give up, O-N-L-Y reason I purchased the HTC Media Link was for the purpose of watching Netflix on the flatscreen.................. sigh.

I had my HTC Media Link quit working completely on video feed (not audio) with Netflix. Upgrading my HTC One sv to a Sprint HTC One m7. My girls Verizon HTC One m8 had the same results, mirrored our screens perfectly, played any video along with audio whether it was an email video attachment (asks if want to watch using media link upon opening video), or YouTube, etc.... Found other posts online with others having the same problem. I just happened across a forum posting (like 3 pages) from a Mr. Satan who was fedup with a scene in a favorite movie of his lagging in Netflix. He changed the bitrates (app version 2.4.1), made 3 different .apk's with three different frame rate settings. I tried the 3,850kps or what ever it is and it would load up on phone, let me choose video but the circle kept spinning a bit too long for me. Loaded the 3,000kbps .apk and it loaded up, played well. Went and linked my Sprint HTC One m7 to the HTC Media Link, everything came up in Netflix like before, but lo & behold, when video starts, it shows............ finally!!!!!!!
Only reason purchased this media link, not only because of the niftiness using phone on flat screen but for watching streaming account with Netflix on it!!!!! I am going to go post in a few places where people posted problems. You will not have lag anymore!!!!

So, I am moving on up from my eris and wanted to set it up as a remotely controlled wifi stereo with my speakers. I was wondering if there was any way to use my new phone to remotely control it? (aside from having google voice set up on it with tasker so I can start an app) Any help would be appreciated.
I'm in the same situation as you. Recently upgraded, but still love my Eris and would love to re-purpose it. As far as your question goes I found this article that you might be interested in. XDA isn't letting me post a link but if you google "VNC android" look for "Remotely Control Android Phone [VNC Server]". The website is taranfx.com.
Now in the near future posts like this are going to become more and more prevalent as more people move away from the old Eris to bigger and better phones. I would be really excited if I could download a ROM for the Eris geared toward media player/iPod Touch like functionality. Maybe strip out phone and messaging stuff and pre-load some headphone controls, equalizers, video players or VNC functionality like the OPs question? I'm just throwing ideas around but I figured this would be a good place to put my suggestion.

*IF* you use your computer as your media hub/server/DVR like me then you can remotely control VLC/VideoLAN and Media Player Classic for Home Cinema with Android apps for the purpose, over WIFI. I don't actually do it because my phone IS my internet right now, but it looks solid.
i was in the same situation a while ago too. someone told me about webkey. its in the market, and you can control the phone from anywhere (doesnt need wifi or bluetooth).
from what ive read, you can not directly connect to the phone if you live in america. i do, and whenever i try, the browser times out. using the webkey website and logging in however, works just fine. actions you do from the computer happen on the phone within 1 second, but sometimes it may take 3-4 seconds to refresh the picture on the website.
i will look into this vnc thing..
First step would be a way to toggle the CDMA radio off, while leveaing wifi and bluetooth on. I know you can use *#*#4636#*#*, but when you reboot the radio is back on.
Bump.
I too would like to re-purpose my Eris as a music or media player of some sort.
So, I just got this and I really want to like it, but I'm having issues.
[Constant]Playing music the background constantly cuts out when you do anything else in the foreground. Both Google Music and Amazon do it. I'm streaming, but I can see that the song has been downloaded. This is my number 1 issue.
[Intermittent]Sometimes the touches don't register on the screen. It's like there is a dead spot. I can touch elsewhere and back and it works fine again. Tried screen recalibration, same issue.
[Intermittent]The GPS doesn't shut off after apps get location. Eventually this kill the battery, but I can just turn it off.
[Random]Micro freezes like I have never seen on any android device. It's like the whole thing freezes. I'm not sure if this is related to the CPU firing up the other core (may be issue with #1)
I am lucky not to have the screen issue, and I'm familiar with the input lag issue (Transformer has it too). There is a lot to like about this tablet, but the music thing a deal breaker. Do I have a lemon, or is this normal?
Things I love:
2 USB Host Ports!
4x3 screen for browsing (not so great for some games and video)
FAST Harware acceleration
Remote is nice to use a player (I bought these. http://www.staples.com/Cyber-Acoustics-Portable-Speakers/product_860830 Needed a small adapter to access the USB port, but it works awesome!)
Sharp screen
More to come
Netflix issue
After Archos fixed the Sleep of Death issue, my ONLY issue is that sometimes when watching Netflix for awhile, the tablet crashes and reboots. Doesn't seem to do that doing anything else, including watching movies off the internal drive.
Thanks for the info.
I did a fully recovery and it's better. I played with the browser for about 5 minutes and only had one minor hickup with the built in player running in the background. Also, the browser was smoother.
I was messing around with Google Music and it hiccuped several times while scrolling around the song list, but nothing like it did this morning. I got another dead spot too. Tap away, tap back and it worked again. Weird stuff.
I picked it up cheap and I really like it, but if it reverts to the former issues, I have to send it back or try to warranty it.
---------------------------------------------------
Update
I reinstalled a bunch of stuff and it's happening again. It's not as bad as it was, but it may be due to that I haven't installed as much. It may be related to memory, because it seems worse when more is running. I sent an e-mail to Archos. Let's see what they say.
I have problems when using the wifi as well...
I have minidlna Debian server at home and all the movies that i watch over wifi have problems. If i copy them via ftp to the tablet there is no problem at all... they play perfect even most demanding HD ones (fullhd 1080p)
One problem that was most frequent was that if i put my Tp-Link 740 (150mbps LiteN) router in 802.11n mode the wifi drops often and reboots my router. In 54mbps G-only mode the link is more stable, the router does not reboot and the link does not drop, but the video streaming across wifi is bad. Ftp transfers work very good (3~3,5 MB/s with AndFtp).
The router works perfect in N-mode with my laptop and SGS II, even FullHD streaming to phone, no problem.
Hey everyone...so I have a very difficult question and was hoping that someone here can help. I tried another forum but - not a peep.....and I am hoping since you guys here are developers you might be able to put on your propeller hat and figure this out!!!
I have the Ascend Mate 2 (which I really enjoy ) and decided to upgrade from I think it was 4.3 to Andriod 5.1 via the Huawei website. All went perfectly normal, and still is normal - except for one thing.
It won't stream or mirror to my television.
So here is a little background. It is the unlocked Ascend Mate 2, Andriod 5.1 EMUI 3.1, build MT2-L03c00B322. 2.0 GB RAM.
When it was 4.3, I streamed perfectly to the television using RK Anycast, ROKU and FireStick TV. Just set it up like normal, clicked on the display, it connected to the device I wanted to use and - off into movie-land I went (I have unlimited streaming data).
So I wanted to upgrade my phone so I could use various other apps that needed a higher version.
Did the normal upgrade via Huawei website and took just a couple minutes, no issues and all loaded all running like usual. So now here it is a few days later, and I am finally nearly done installing all my normal apps and backed-up/restored texts and calls etc. So I thought, let me stream a movie (I use the term streaming and mirroring to mean the same thing) from my phone to my TV so I can relax.
I do the normal, pull down from the top, and bring up the "multi-screen" option. And I see the RK Anycast device listed, I hit connect, it does connect, I see my cellphone mirrored on the TV like normal, I go to any app - Netflix, YouTube, Prime etc., that loads like normal....but when I hit play....it plays for about three seconds, then just totally hangs. Stops playing, the picture just stays on the TV screen without moving at all. So i have to close the program.
So I test this out with my Firestick and my Roku, does the same exact thing for them. Looks normal, connects like normal, I go to hit play it runs for about two seconds then just totally stalls and hangs.
I have no idea what the problem is...but seems almost like....maybe there is a certain setting for Andriod 5.1 that needs to be changed that I am not aware of?
Like I said I am just puzzled since I know it worked perfectly when I had Andriod 4.3 on it.
And get this - a saved video I physically on my cellphone - well that streams to the TV without hanging or lagging, it runs like normal.
Thanks for any ideas and hints....!!!
Hi, I have an LG G5 Android version 7.0. I just recently purchased a Roku Express +. I had one of the very first generation Roku's but I haven't used it for 3 or 4 years so I got it all set up and was excited about the option to screen mirror my phone to watch content that I can't cast.
Everywhere I look shows me the exact same information, which is basically to go to my settings in my LG G5, share and connect, select the device, and then, supposedly, Voila! Except there is no Voila!
What ends up happening is that my phone sees the Roku unit and after it finishes searching it shows it's connecting. I've already been into my Roku settings and it sees the LG G5 and also has an abled no prompts necessary for connection. But within a couple of seconds of connecting to the Roku, and the Roku puts up a little purple screen that shows a small device and a large TV screen so it looks like something's going to happen, then the connection drops, Roku goes back to its home screen, and my phone shows no devices are available for connection.
I have tried to Google myself silly figuring out what might be going on. I can't screen mirror remotely from my phone to my TV, which is early generation flat screen and not a smart TV, but with an HDMI cord and a dongle I bought that allows it to work that way. But, of course, when I do that I'm limited to screen mirroring only as long as my battery is running because the dongle goes into my charging port on my phone.
Maybe I am misunderstanding things, but from everything I can see, it appears that my Roku model I have, which is a 3900 series, should work as the Miracast Dongle so that my LG G5 can screen mirror to my unsmart TV.
I have PlayStored myself to death and because Developers interchange the words "cast" and "mirror" it's been install, uninstall, install, uninstall Ad nauseam. For all of the apps that end up just basically being "assistants" and taking me to my share and connect page they are no help at all because even though I go through the process the same problem happens.
I did download one app, which works but is working so horribly because of the app itself that it's useless. So I do know that my phone can mirror through the Roku somehow but it is basically circumventing having to go through the Share & Connect somehow. That app was called Screen Stream Mirroring, and I was trying the free version because I did not want to spend $5 if it wasn't going to work at all. Aside from the annoying ads and limited time, it did a lot of "loading. . .", and had a significant delay. I don't mind the delay, but today it was working worse than it did last night when I first tried it. I'm not sure how it connects, but there was a little tab on the side that said to connect to Chromecast, DLNA, or other stuff, and when I clicked on that Roku popped up as an option because the app saw my Roku so I connected that way. Or any way connected crappily.
I know that's a lot of information, but I wanted to give you everything that I've tried so far. I've also cleared my caches, uninstalled the third party mirroring and casting apps, made sure there were no available updates for my LG G5 or Roku, rebooted my phone, unplug and rebooted the Roku, and I'm not sure if there is a great app I can download? I don't mind a third party app but I can't find one that will work for me right now. So if anybody has ideas on that. Again, I need something that will mirror and not just passed because I would like to view my DishAnywhere or other things on the TV that I can't see through my Roku.
Or, ideally, it would be great to have my phone mirror directly to the Roku without that connection dropping and not seeing the device for some reason. There is no Direct Customer Support with Roku or my model Roku even though I just bought it new. My only options are help center cookie cutter choices you have to select from a drop-down menu, none of which have anything to do with screen mirroring.
Thank you in advance for any experience and or suggestions and ideas to troubleshoot this.,
Kristie
Okay, how about a good Screen Mirroring App, not Casting, to mirror my LG G5 through my Roku? But it needs to bypass the Screen Mirroring button on my Share & Connect in Settings since that process keeps recognizing, trying to connect, and then dropping the Roku.
I did find one app that used a tab to connect directly to DNLA, Chromecast, etc. that recognized Roku and connected it, but the buffering/loading was horrible, the resolution wasn't great, and the second time I tried to use it the audio was not working. It was called Screen Stream Mirroring by MOBZAPP. Others I tried simply took me back to toggling on my Screen Mirroring button, and that is not working. Bypassing it did work, although the app wasn't great. I am hoping there is another, but I have not had luck since some developers say "mirror" but mean casting.
Thank you in advance for your time and and ideas,
Kristie
