I just received my Archos 101 yesterday, and after loading a few apps, some music/video on the external sd card, froyo, and LauncherPro, the tablet is extremely slow - to the point where it's not as 'responsive' as it used to be. Has anyone found anything (e.g. lagfix) that makes it a bit faster? I want to love this tablet because of the hell I had to go through with Amazon to get it, but it's really making me pissed off as of lately. Any help would be great - thanks in advance.
install os monitor, sort processes by cpu load and tell us if anything is eating all the CPU
http://www.appbrain.com/app/os-monitor/com.eolwral.osmonitor
I noticed the same thing on my A70. I switched from Launcher Pro to ADW launcher and it's noticably smoother without uninstalling anything else.
Why does os monitor show it is using 40% of my cpu?
Go to Settings / About Device
Register and upgrade your firmware to 2.0.71.
Go To Settings / About Device Power Management /
click on Overdrive
Go To Settings / Repair & formating / calibrate touch screen and accelerometer
do a google searck for gAppsinstaller_v4.apk
keep clicking untill it is installed on your device.
You will now have full google market.
Go to google market - Get Dolphin Browser - make it your default
go to google market - get vplayer beta to play all flash and other videos
recomended google market - get videos
google market - i music
Should be flying now - If running slow - go to desktop - click on system monitor - stop all programs - should be flying again -
tip - firefox is really slow and crashes?? dont install
When using touch screen never push hard - A light quick brushing action works best - or a light quick tap - always light on your fingertips -
tip - do not try to root - not necessary with overdrive setting - full root will come someday. No root is working right now for this firmware.
Good luck
David
i almost forgot
dont forget to go to android market and download and install adobe flash.
Try to erase all Mediafiles and reboot.
If your A101 is faster then you have a File that breaks the mediascanner.
Also if you are still on 2.1 the Mediascanner is running at every boot and scanns every file.
This has been fixed with the last FW.
Alright I did everything you guys have recommended and it is signficantly faster now. I think my biggest problem was that I didn't realize how sensitive the screen is compared to my Captivate. Also, is there any point in setting the cpu to 1000mhz using z4root/setcpu? (haven't been able to get that to work anyways, z4mod just freezes).
I got my Arcos 101 about a week ago and noticed the horrible sluggishness too. I tried doing the firmware update to Froyo and it was still sluggish. I'm now sure exactly what the option was called, but after the Froyo update, I went into settings and did a full format on the device. It reloaded everything from scratch, but I lost all of the 3rd party apps. So I called Archos and they pointed me to ftp://support.archos.com. There is a file called A101 HDD Contents.zip Just download it and unzip the folders. In one of the folders is the Archos customizations (apk files). Just install whatever programs you want and you will be back in business.
One other thing, you will need to set your CPU speed to Performance to get the 1ghz speed. The 2.0.71 build downclocks the cpu to 800mhz.
Oh, and I'm in the same boat with not being able to Root my device. Please z4root creator, fix this.
@dijitalm:
You don't need root for 1Ghz as you can easily set this in the normal settings.
And before you try again, neither z4root nor any other sw that uses rageagainstthecage is working.
The main reason I need root is to get my Tablet to see Ad-Hoc Networks. Specifically I have WIFI Router on my phone and my laptop sees/connects to the phone fine, but the tablet will not see the access point. I know that there are fixes for this that people have come up with but it requires root access.
Oh, and I have a Windows based phone (Touch Pro 2), so I can't get the bluetooth tethering option to work either.

Hmm. Others have gotten WM phones to work with BT tethering.
When I try to associate the Archos 101, they attempt to pair and then my phone says "it (the tablet) doesn't have any services that we are interested in". That statement on my phone is so enfuriating because I'll be the judge of what services I'm interested in having my phone use. My old XV6800 (Titan) did bluetooth tethering like a charm, and if it were still alive, I'd even consider going back to it.
Yup I'd be happy non rooting it if I could just get tethering to work.

I tried what is on post #5 here and this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10022941&postcount=4
so far, the combination of both things have made a big difference in the performance of my A70. It's a pretty smooth experience now.
ADW and Launcher Pro
I'm glad my help with Launcher Pro helped you. I installed the new ADW Launcher EX yesterday. I will have to say, It is faster depending on the settings. I used the "Fast" [reset profile. Right off the bat it was flying faster than launcher pro. I would suggest that launcher now that it has been revamped.

I'm hoping this is the right place for this post, if not just move it or nuke it, whatever works.
I've cobbled togther what I did to take my stock Photon and turn it into a fire breathing dragon, or well at least a fully functional netbook equivalent with openoffice, gimp, local network based printing etc. This works for both the HDMI dock as well as a converted refurbished Atrix dock. You can even change your screen resolution to match your monitor capability on the HDMI dock. I would assume this would work with both the little mini dock thing as well as the non-HDMI dock changes that let you use a monitor directly without the dock, however these are untested.
This assumes you have a fast microsd card installed in the Photon and are willing to wipe it and let webtop2sd erase and format it. Back up your data on the sdcard before starting down this path.
I wasn't ambitious enough to go down the full updated bootloader cwm path, instead I stayed with rooted stock and slowly built up what I needed. Hopefully this helps someone out there trying to do the same thing. The side benefit is that you keep your 4G and can install updates down the road (assuming you don't lose root).
Credit goes to those very smart folks out there that figured all this out, I just bolted the steps together for my needs. I've included a reference link for each major step. This isn't intended as a step by step guide, more like the links I found and followed with hints tossed in along the way.
To root, – use torpedo, it worked for me even after the most recent OTA update.

Next, install webtop2sd, format the card and copy the existing instance to your sdcard, enable the various advanced things, read through the process. Major kudos for this app and the time and thought that went into it, amazing stuff.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119555
(for photon you need to download webtop2sd-2.0.1.apk - [Click for QR Code] )
once booted into the sdcard side, launch webtop configurator and let it update the files and then install lxterminal and the other application, you need to pay attention to the color of the buttons to know if it has installed. If the webtop configurator won't launch, follow the steps in the above link to figure out if you are actually running from the sdcard or not.
once you install, go back into the webtop configurator and install them both again if they didn't actually install, for me it acted like it installed but really didn't, took me a couple times.
This next part is the key to stability, an amazing feat of scripting to fix all the package dependencies and then build placeholder packages for the missing bits, and then locking (“hold”) for the motorola provided packages so they don't get messed up further down the road. Doffing my cap to you sir.
run the apt-get package script fixer, say yes to everything and it will sort it all out for you, it runs for a long time, just leave it alone and answer the questions when prompted

Install a different desktop interface if you want. I used xfce4 to give me a real “start” menu with all the expected things. At this point you are using the synaptic package manager to install applications.
(from an lxterminal window) type in “gksu synaptic”
install xfce4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054213&page=2
Assuming you don't want AWN to load at startup, then edit the file that controls what launches at startup. Using leafpad you can edit the file to have the menus you want for your setup.
cd /osh/usr/local/bin/
sudo leafpad start-oshwt-2.sh
The section needs to look like the below, comment or uncomment (the # at the beginning of the line) to omit or include what you want. I opted for the webtop-panel at the top of the screen along with the xfce4-panel at the bottom of the screen along with xfdesktop for the desktop background and associated right-click menus.
# start OSHWT 2 scripts
sfalv -i "xfce4-panel"
sfalv -i "xfdesktop"
#sfalv -i "awn-autostart"
sfalv -i "webtop-panel"
#sfalv -i "webtop-wallpaper"
sfalv -i "evbridge"
sfalv -i "window_switcher"
sr-test avahi_start &
reboot the phone for the updated menus
At this point you can start installing packages – I opted for openoffice and gimp as well as the chm viewer to read chm formatted help files.
From a lxterminal window enter “gksu synaptic” and choose openoffice and whatever else you need.
install openoffice
install gimp
install chm viewer
let things run to completion.
At this point you are getting close to complete but might want better control of your monitor resolution. To fix the screensize issue on different monitors on the hdmi dock, you need to edit the xorg.conf file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198230
cd /osh/etc/X11
sudo leafpad xorg.conf
Do a search on “Screen HDMI” and then change the “1366 768” to “1920 1080”:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen HDMI"
Device "Tegra HDMI"
Monitor "HDMI"
Option "ARGBHWCursor" "false"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
# Uncomment to override the preferred resolution chosen by UseEDIDModes
Modes "1280x720"
ViewPort 0 0
# Defaults to the size of the chosen mode
Virtual 1920 1080
EndSubsection
then from a lxterminal window type
xrandr -s 1920x1080
undock and reboot the phone
You can select the desired screen resolution from the xfce4 “monitor settings” app, not from the webtop display app (or at least not on mine).
Hopefully this helps someone and minimizes the amount of googling and reading to get what you need.
Many thanks to the all the smart folks on XDA – you are the best!
The initial Ubuntop was a step by step before I prepackaged it. I pulled the "build your own" guide after the first release. Thanks for putting this back up. It won't be optimized like UbunTop but is a good learning tool for those interested.
I miss messing with linux
Thanks guys for your awesome contributions.

I've tried to get the webtop configurator to run a dozen of times, reinstall it, even reformat partitions, redo the webtop2sd process, but every time I click on the configurator, it seems to load (glowing, blinking background on the icon), and then only stays highlighted (grey background on icon).
Am I supposed to just wait for a very long time ? Is anything happening at all ? There's no progress window or even a new window opened from clicking on the webtop configurator. AWN manager is actually the only thing that I didn't use to have that launches, even LX terminal 1st opens a black window then closes...
I know nothing about Linux but I'd like to be able to run openoffice and pidgin.
My guess is the phone isn't running from the sdcard properly. Go back into webtop2sd and then within settings enable the diagnostics tab, verify you see mmcblk1p2 listed under the currently mounted webtops. If all you see is the one ending in 13, then it's not loading from the sdcard right.
Also, did all the steps within webtop2sd seem to complete ok? It should have went through formatting then copying etc, updating the various components.
I'd go back through the steps in the webtop2sd link and see if anything sticks out. Post what you find and I'll try and help.
Hope this helps.
You're correct, it only shows p 13. All the steps seemed to complete correctly, on to find out why it's not booting from the sd card correctly.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
So, after my 4th attempt, both p2 and p 13 now show up on the diagnostic tab. But there's nothing under webtop configurator on that same tab, even after clicking on reinstall webtop configurator and rebooting. So the result is still the same, nothing happens when I click on the webtop configurator.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Edit: So I just flashed 198_7 SBF, re-did all the webtop2sd process, and still no version showing in webtop configurator diagnostic tab. Wtf. Both partitions show, p2, p13.
Finally! Got it to work, synaptic installing Pidgin, next : OpenOffice.
Great news! I was just starting to think what might be fighting back, glad you figured it out.
I have to reiterate here how awesome it is to finally have unleashed the full Webtop power of this phone. What an amazing feat of progress to be able to use our cell phone as a full computer (I have a BT wireless keyboard and mouse combo, not even a dock necessary).
I confirm this works great with the Webtop HDMI hack : just apply the hack 1st, then do the Webtop2sd afterwards, and voila, no dock needed.
I have successfully installed Xfce, Exhale audio player, Pidgin, OpenOffice, Gimp, and they can all run concurrently, just like a real computer would.
Thanks again for the guide reposted here, it was definitely something I wanted to do but since I didn't want to lose 4G by unlocking my phone, I had been waiting for an alternative.
e-motion, what did you end up doing to make it work? I'm having the same issues you were. I've run webtop2sd at least 4 times and it always boots from 13. Getting frustrated!
Edit: Took about 237 more tries of doing exactly the same thing, but it finally worked! Woohoo
awesome thread.
So I did everything in this mod, and I was loving my new set up. The only thing I hadn't messed with was the resolution. So I decided to do that last part of the hack.
Something must have went wrong. I was trying several different resolutions, and I couldn't get one to fill my monitor without issues. Sometimes it would be squished and my mouse would be showing in one place, but hovering over another, if that makes sense. The only thing I changed was the xorg.conf file, and the resolution on webtop itself using xrandr -s.
The problem is that now, my phone won't bring up the options menu when HDMI is plugged in. The monitor still shows the batwing M as a screen saver, so they are definitely connected, but I can't get my phone to bring up the options for mirroring, webtop, etc.
Can anyone help me? Maybe if someone had a clean xorg.conf file that they could upload? I could try replacing that with mine in case I screwed something up there.
I went through and cleared the data for all of my apps that could have been related to webtop or this problem. Including "webtop", "webtop2sd", "webtop connector" and a couple of others. Nothing brings back the option. I have rebooted several times as well.
One strange thing is that my app for "webtop connector" shows 0.00b in total, application, and data, it's as if it's there, but there is nothing there? Is that because I did webtop over HDMI hack?
Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to have to start all over on everything.
Here is my xorg.conf, hopefully it pastes in ok..well turns out it didn't..
I attached it, peel off the .txt on the end just in case.
Hope this helps

Thanks a ton. I will give it a try. If it doesn't work, I will try re-doing the webtop over HDMI mod again.
If anyone else has any other suggestions, I am grateful for any help.
---------- Post added at 08:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:58 PM ----------
Can anyone look in their apps list and see how much space "webtop connector" is taking up?
So, I flashed the xorg.conf file from Larrybiggs, it didn't work on first try, but then after a few reboots it did. I noticed that your xorg.conf file wasn't the stock one, it was one you had modified right?
Something strange has happened, and I don't know if it's related, but now the touchpad mouse and keyboard that are part of the screen will not respond at all. My bluetooth mouse and keyboard work fine, but the touchpad doesn't work at all.
Is it working fine for you with this file? I am not even sure if that's the root of all my problems, but I am just trying to figure it out. Thanks.
Sorry for so many replies about this. But, I got it all to work, and I figured I would post it. Sometimes in these threads, all you ever see is the problems people ran into. I found in the motorola owners forum that I wasn't the only one with this problem.
https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/57460
"I originally posted here hoping to find an answer. Here is what I did and I got it to WORK!!! I turned the TV off. I also went ahead and rebooted the phone. Once the phone was back up, I plugged the cable into my phone then into the HDMI port on the TV. I then turned on the TV and made sure I was on the correct TV input for viewing. When the TV came on I got a notification on my phone asking me what I wanted to do. It worked!!!"
Once I did that, it was all working. But I noticed at any resolution higher than 1280x720, the phone mousepad, or the touchscreen on the phone stops responding. Haven't solved that one yet, but at least I figured I would post how I solved the other problem. Thanks.
Got it working. Thanks.

What exactly did you do? Mine is also not booting from the new external ext3 partition.
Hi all.
So, i have my Razr for a couple of weeks now, Webtop was working ok, i've tested two times with the stock system and had no problems at all.
Now after rooting i can't use the Webtop feature anymore, when i plug in the HDMI cable (with the original webtop accessory, no hack) on the TV and i choose WEBTOP the screen goes to a Motorola "sparkling" logo and it stays there forever, nothing happens.
All other features are fine, MIRROR, GALERY, MUSIC, all works fine, but WEBTOP just hangs.
In the logs i found something that could be interesting:
E/HDMI_HW (1023)
hdmiHW_getEdidBlock: Error reading EDID block 0 (5)
W/HDMI_OMAP (1023)
hdmiOmap_readEdid: RETRY (5)
Has anyone encountered any problems with Webtop after rooting?
Just to clarify i used the runme.bat method for rooting, and did nothing else with the phone, did not remove any bloatware, nothing on system, just the usual, installed Titanium Backup, Adfree, Root Explorer and Barnacle Wi-Fi Tether.
Thanks in advance for any help guys.
I don't have any issue.
I have an Atrix LapDock and no issues.
I do notice that the startup takes longer.
That's weird.
I don't think rooting should be an issue when it comes to use the Webtop feature.
But if it's not a rooting issue it probably is some app that it's not letting Webtop launch properly.
Can anyone with a rooted Razr confirm that Webtop is working without problems???
Does anyone know about any App conflict with Webtop???
Thanks in advance for any answer guys.
If a system app was froze that needs it. That can cause it to not work.
Yeah, i know, but i did not froze anything.
I tried without the Webtop accessory using Nebtop, cause i thought it could be something wrong with it, but still a no go.
It is probably some app that i installed and changed something at the Webtop partition or some app is denying access to webtop.
I wish i know what could have cause this.
I had the same issue, Webtop worked fine until I rooted my Razr then when I tried to launch it the phone froze up. More specifically, the Moto logo appeared on both screens then did nothing. When I un-docked the phone it went to the phones home screen but then froze up. I hard-booted the phone, and once it restarted Webtop is working fine???
So, I would like to get to the bottom of this for anyone else having this issue. I am going to post every change I've made since first successfully testing the app. If you would post your changes, as well as any other member having this issue we could probably figure it out.
- Razr received firmware update
- Tested Webtop successfully
- Rooted phone with DoomLords method v3 (installed SuperUser)
- Installed ROM Toolbox Pro
- Backed up all icons, boot animation, fonts, etc.
- Changed the minimum CPU slider from 300 to 600
- Installed SQLite Editor
- Changed the 'Entitlement Check' value to open Mobile Hotspot capabilities
- Installed Dolphin Browser HD (as well as multiple addons for it)
- Installed Brightest Flashlight Free
- Installed Barcode scanner (for use with a Dolphin addon)
- Installed RedLaser
- Installed Dropbox
- Installed Evernote
- Installed Go Launcher EX (as well as a few themes and widgets (all made by the GL Dev Team)
- Installed Minimalist Text and added a clock and a date widget to my HS
- Installed Movies by Flixter
- Installed PayPal
- Installed Installed Screenshot UX Trial
- Installed Worms
- Installed WifiKill
Changes in bold are ones that I think are pertinent. Hope we can get this sorted out, try hard booting the device. Maybe it will work for you as well.

Interesting...
I thought i was the only one having this problem.
So let me tell you my history.
Bought the razr, and tested fine, webtop working as it should. Three days later i used the runme.bat method to root the device, then installed the usual:
Titanium Backup (Did not do any backups or frozed any apps)
Adfree
Barnacle (Already deleted)
Root Explorer
Seek Droid
Dropbox
And some other games and not so relevant apps.
The one i think it could be causing the trouble and had my eyes on it since this problem begun was Go Launcher EX, since you have it too it could be the one to look at.
Other then that, i don't have any custom rom, system is pretty much from factory, whats diferent is my image is Latam since i live in Brazil.
And i did change the boot animation for the Droid one, but changed back to original didnt work.
Like i said, maybe Go Launcher is the one to look at, it could possibly be denying access to enter into the Webtop desktop. Since i'm alway from home now for the new year, i can't test anything right now.
If you test anything on your side, please update us here.
Thanks.
To clarify, once I hard(soft?)-booted the phone it worked fine.
It's funny, my first instinct was to ask you if you were using GL EX as well but I figured I would save time and just list everything.
Once I get home from work I will test it again.
Out of curiosity, had you turned off the phone since installing GL EX? Since it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for it to start working for me after a reboot I am wondering if maybe the phone just needs to restart after installing GL EX for it to work properly, let me know.
Blake
I don't know what you mean by "hard reset" the phone. If you mean turn it off and on again, I did that several times already, but still not working. If you mean anything else other then tun it off and on again please I would like you to explain what you did.
What can I try when I get home is to uninstall GL EX and see what happens. Out of curiosity, what version of GL EX are you using?
Thanks.
Webtop works fine for me- My Razr is rooted, has the most current update and has the usual suspects (apps) frozen. I use Launcher Pro.
The one catch is I have the Atrix lapdock and not a VZW one. I just now tested it and used it 15 minutes. Reason was I did not recall using it since updating and rerooting, so thought I might be in your company.
Working fine and easily the best bargain purchase ($65) for me to date
I do not have the tether flag set to zero like some apparently do (not needed it yet).
Mine works fine using the HD dock and the Nebtop mod. Rooted with the new update.

Never know what can break function when changed, since we may assume some tasks impact nothing, but end up being the failed link in the chain.
I have 2.3.6 GingerMod #7 running with 2.3.6 webtop flashed. I have also applied the webtop2sd as well as the xfce4 mod. It was running perfectly fine for two days when I started webtop this morning--now I'm getting 2 (two) Mobile Views. I have rebooted my atrix and I'm still getting two instances of Mobile View.
Tried ps aux | grep mobile as well as ps aux | grep view with no success.
Has anyone have this problem? How do you get rid of the 2nd Mobile View?
Actually, I've noticed this as well. I think when you do the xfce mod or other things where you've replaced Metacity, gnome-settings-daemon, or other processes need by the stock webtop, then when you re-activate webtop after using (no reboots in between), then the startup scripts are being re-run.
My current setup is pretty much full xfce, but I still have webtop-panel running. In a clean start-up of webtop, without intervention my scripts will replace metacity with xfwm4, gnome-settings-daemon gets replaced by xfsettingsd, and a few other things.
Unfortunately, I've found that when webtop viewing stops for any reason (mainly by pulling the phone out of the dock) and restarting will cause all my xfce environment to go away, then try to restart. In the process, I get another aiw window, as well as another lxterminal (that's if webtop or the phone doesn't crash in the process). The only way that would happen is if the startup scripts are being re-run.
I've been meaning to trace the webtop startup to see what gets started when. There is no mention of "sfalv metacity" in the two startup scripts we all modify, so it must get started elsewhere explicitly...it probably wouldn't have "sfalv" if it was started indirectly by something else. Perhaps some modified scripts elsewhere can check to see if things are already running before restarting...heck, that's probably a good check for the two start-oshwt-* scripts.
Oh, and in the end, I just end up killing the new "aiw" and "sfalv aiw" processes that are created.
I fixed the problem. Instead of "xfdesktop" you have to put "xfdesktop4" and "xfce-panel"
I don't know why it would solve the problem of two or more multiple mobile views, but it worked for me.
If this helps you, please make sure you click on the thank button!
Mobile View has become inactive. It just sits in the center of the screen but does not do anything. I can click on the home, menu, search and back buttons but that's about it.
I'm going back to the original webtop ui, no more xfce for me at this time.
i wonder if it works better under 2.3.5?
I'm in the middle of removing all of xfce4 right now. I have found that the path of least resistance for webtop right now is to install gnome-panel and run it instead of awn (Ok, I guess you could modify awn to have the gnome menu, but I wanted multiple workspaces too, and couldn't see how to get awn to do that).
So change the original startup-oshwt-2.sh as follows:
#sfalv -i "awn-autostart"
sfalv -i "gnome-panel"
So comment out the first line listed above, add the second line after it and leave the rest of the file alone.
When the desktop comes up the very first time, you will probably have a gnome-panel covering the webtop-panel. You can simply right click and remove that panel.
From there you can then customize by running "gnome-appearance-properties". You will probably want to add that to the gnome menu because for some reason that isn't installed in the preferences menu by default.
You will also need to right click on the bottom panel and add the gnome main menu to the bar. I'll leave it to you to figure out how to move things around on the bar (hint: unlock). After that, customize as you like. You will probably want to break the default webtop-theme (search for that), but beware of using themes from synaptic willy-nilly. I just caused webtop to crash that way.
Note we didn't start a full gnome session here, just ran the gnome-panel. The basic webtop scripts also start gnome-settings-daemon and metacity, so this is probably the best it gets until we get around to figuring out the internals of webtop.
Oh, and as a bonus, I just removed my phone from the lapdock, did a few things with it then returned it to the lapdock. Webtop came up instantly without duplicate windows, everything working and in the same place I left it when I popped the phone out.
a possible fix
I solved this problem by going into terminal and writing this:
killall aiw
this will only kill one instance of mobile view. But when you restart the desktop, you will again have 2 mobile views and will have to repeat the command.

This iPad Air 2 clone from Onda: http://www.onda-tablet.com/onda-v91...reen-ram-2gb-octa-core-3g-android-tablet.html
Looks rather nice, (and very cheap) for what it is, the question is does anyone have one, and what's the battery life like?
I'm currently running an old (original) Nexus 7 Running 5.02 lollipop. It's usable. But having just bought my mother a ASUS HD7 (also an Intel build) http://www.theverge.com/2014/12/12/7377323/best-cheap-tablet-you-can-buy and seen how it performs in comparison I think it's time for an upgrade.
This: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776829 seems to be how to root one, but I'm more interested in build quality and feel
So does anyone have one?
NOTE: These are INTEL ROMS for Baytrail, etc. https://01.org/android-ia/downloads

Hi, got one on order - delivery next week, I hope, according to the email received today. I ordered the Android Only version - the dual boot Android / Win 8 was quite a bit more and I already have a MS Win 8 tablet which I dont like so didn't need the pain Also it was USD40 cheaper, so spent themoney on a memory card.
I also have an iPad Air Mini, so it will be interesting to compare to see if the Onda can match an iPad - not quite a direct comparison, but will be interesting.

Jeff
Jeff, tell us how the tablet is. what are the features like? how is the dual boot? etc....
Sorry for delay - I didn't get an email note to say a reply had been posted!
Anyway, I bought the Android version as I have a Win 8 tablet and hate it.
As usual for a Chinese item, it was configured for English (US) and has a selection of rather "unusual" programs and apps loaded as standard. Most are in-built into the ROM and cannot be deleted.
It is, basically, a large Android Phone running 4.4.2. It has a well configured 16Gb internal USB drive of which approx 12Gb is free to load apps. I have put a 64Gb TF card in and it is recognised and formatted automatically. It has a Micro SIM slot but my WorldSIM card is not recognised as it does not pull-in the SIM tools from the SIM card so cannot find a signal. I will buy a PAYG SIM from Tesco when I next go there.
It proved impossible to root the ROM using all of the APK or USB type methods - 4.4.2 is known to be extremely difficult and 4.4.3 almost impossible (I have read). I saw an add on the web for a USD39.95 root or your money back. Nothing ventured, Nothing gained, so I clicked on the link. A chat box opened and I discussed the issue (Chinese tablet / 4.4.2 etc.) and the techy guy said it was 50/50. He did confirm that if it didn't work there would be no damage and a full refund; if it did work, then that's good. I paid by PayPal and as soon as it went through, I got an invite to allow remote access. The tech guy downloaded iRoot (which has already failed for me) as well as a small toolkit. He ran a DOS promt and got the phone to be recognised - this is the secret that made it work; a standard USB/Phone driver is not working well with 4.4.2.
Once the phone saw the USB connection, he ran iRoot and after 5 minutes and a few reboots, it was rooted. He then tidied up the PC by deleting the files he had downloaded.
On the tablet, I now had a rooted ROM and a selection of new Chinese icons (SuperCLeaner / SuperUser and a few "extras"). Being untrustworthy, I wanted to replace those a.s.a.p. but being careful not to disturb anything that might un-root me. I went to bed, it was 11:30 and I didn't want to make any mistakes.
This morning, I researched what was available. First install was BUSYBOX FREE which I have always read is a util you should install. Next was SuperSU which is the utility that is normally part of a "Western" root process. As it loaded, it complained that there was already a SuperUser App installed (the Chinese one) so I ticked the box to say "replace it" and kept my fingers crossed. All went OK, rebooted and I now had SuperSU up and running. Next app to look at was the Chinese SuperCleaner which kept popping up saying it was cleaning up the cache etc. Made me suspicious. So, first thing was to get rid of it. It was a simple drag and uninstall.
I was still left with a lot of icons of unknown use (Chinese Characters / Chinese Browser / Chinese email app etc etc) that were part of the ROM and couldn't be deleted.
Next App load : Root App Deleter - says it all. I ran it in "Junior" mode (so no irrepairable damage can be done) and "disabled" everything I culd recognise - this removes the icon from the desktop, but does not delete the App. I will wait a few days and if nothing falls over, I will go back and run as "Professional" which allows permanent (and irreplaceable) deletion.
Next App : Root Explorer which, like a file explorer, lets you look everywhere.
Next App : Titanium Backup - allows you to backup to SD card or elsewhere Apps, setting etc.
Logged into Google / Playstore, clicked "My Apps" and started downloading all of teh Android Apps I wanted to replicate on the tablet (TV, Radio, AllCast, Netflix . . . etc)
There are a few very important apps which are involved with the Root, so Icreated a Root folder and moved all of the icons into it. ALso there were a few Chinese icons that I could not get ris of, so they went in the folder as well. I then moved it to the last desktop well out of the way - out of sight, out of mind
Interestingly, it looks like the full phone hardware is built in as well - along with SMS messaging app there is a phone dialler. I *#06# on the keypad and got an IMEI response and there is a phone onhook/offhook ability, so I assume there is a workin phone. Without a SIM, I cant try it (yet).
Downside : the wireless receiver is a little deaf - my iPad gets a 90% signal almost everywhere int he hosue, this droped the signal upstairs and gives a 75% signal strength within sight of the wireless router. This is a common complaint with Chinese phones and tablets.
So, for less than £100, you get a 9.7" iPad looking tablet, running Android 4.4.2 - not bad at all.
Quick update - PAYG 3G sim works fine- it is a phone as well, works perfectly but a bit large to hold to the ear - so a phone headset is best.
