Loving this phone - HTC One X+

I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted today and am on At&t. I came from a Galaxy Nexus. Although I'm really going to miss the immediate updates, I actually like Htc sense. The android phones I've had so far are Nexus One, Atrix 4g, Samsung Skyrocket, Galaxy Nexus, and now this. One thing that I really like about this X+ is the range of Wifi. I would only get 1 bar in my room and sometimes not anything on all the other phones. Now I get 5 bars fast speeds it's crazy. The only thing I miss is the on screen navigation buttons from the GNex, but I can learn to live without them. I was debating between an S3 Nexus 4, and this, but after using the skyrocket I was absolutely sick of touchwiz. and I had an upgrade but Nexus 4 isn't available yet for At&t if it ever will be. The only problem I've had is the bluetooth audio seemed to have a little crackle whenever I play it through the car stereo, but I mostly use an aux cord. I was worried about the size but a best buy employee showed me his with a case on it on it wasn't too bad at all so I think I made the perfect choice.

Hi, also coming from Galaxy Nexus and Im also really impressed Form this phone. The quality oft HTC is quiet better than Samsung. Also sense is better than touchwiz. Only thing which would Make this phone perfect would be an a15 processor and 2 gibs of RAM... Anyway ...my plan was to geht the hox+ from vodafone, sell it and buy a nexus 4 but I think I will stay with hox+.

Thinking of selling my S II for a Galaxy Nexus

Opinions? What I'll miss from S II, is the Super Amoled Plus. :S But Galaxy Nexus has an HD, wich I adore. I watch movies/anime etc. Also, can anyone explain me what pentile is?
ask yourself if 16GB storage will be enough for your movies etc, comparing to 16GB+64GB for the S2
Pentile: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PenTile_matrix_family
Sent from my Galaxy S2 using Tapatalk
to be honest, at a sie by side comparison between my sII and the galaxy nexus, i prefer my sII, it feels more sharp and up to date somehow, and it is more powerful that the Galaxy Nexus, not saying the Nexus isnt nice, its very nice, just doesnt feel or look quite as nice as my sII... the screen is cool, but im not exactly squinting to see on mine, superAMOLED plus on the sII is something to behold, it is the best by far, i would wait and see what the sIII brings to the game if anything, everything the galaxy nexus can do bar NFC (on most models) the sII can do, i wouldnt sell it for anything
EDIT: will add i am running ICS LPB on my SII, and it is fantastic, smooth as butter
i've made the switch to the Nexus. much better screen. feels better too in hand. the development is also at lightning speed on the nexus, youre always getting the purest and latest. i would say that you try it out yourself, do some side by side comparisons, then you can make the decision.
ive never looked back
if you think 16gb isnt enough, you could also consider the 32GB GSM version: http://www.expansys.com/google-galaxy-nexus-32gb-black-224348/
Hitching for a new device? Waite for the GSIII!
IF your ORD is that bad, then go get a nexus. Shoo! *wave*
I´d never switch my SG2 for nexus...
Waiting for SGIII!!!
I actually got a nexus, and after one week sold it and went back to my
galaxy s2.
The things that I liked on the nexus, were the screen, audio quality, call quality, mic quality, overall smoothness of the ui, the feel of the device, and how all drivers are open for all the hardware on the device.
But, the s2 is just faster (even with ics), the blacks are blacker, camera is much better, and live wallpapers don't lag the device. Also, I didn't realize how useful some of the touchwiz features are until I didn't have them. I like having so many options for roms.
After much deliberation, I ended up deciding to keep my s2 and wait for the s3, but you may have different opinion.

You're not going to find many people here who will suggest you switch to a Galaxy Nexus; most people who wanted a Nexus have already jumped ship. For videos, the extra resolution isn't even that big a deal--it's much more relevant for small text. Compared to my brother's CDMA Nexus, I prefer the color reproduction of the GS2 screen, though I do think the Nexus feels nicer in hand with its curved shape.
wait for sgs3, it will have amoled HD + screen and also buttonless design, so more screen space to enjoy movies
wait for the sgs3
its just around the corner
Although it is a matter of personal preference, I would stay stay with your SGS2 for now. There is a difference between the Galaxy Nexus and SGS2, but its not that different and its slightly difficult to say that the Nexus if better than the SGS2 all around. With a lot of new phones announced and new one coming (MWC 2012), best to stick with the SGS2. Within a few months, plenty of phones will have ICS and there will be phones that are much better than the SGS2 and Galaxy Nexus.
Skip Nexus and get the Galaxy Note instead. You'll never look back.
nexus or gs2? easy decision...gs2. as for the note...lol is all i will say ..
The dude abides....
Do some research and you'll find out most people who switched to Nexus say it feels slower than SGS2.
I'm not planning on replacing my s2 yet (pretty happy with it, especially with ics lpb ) but if i would loose it today i will probably buy a galaxy note to replace it. The galaxy nexus is a nice device but IMO both the sgs2 as the note are better
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
If it's a better screen you're looking for, I'd say it's better to take a look at the Galaxy Note rather than the Galaxy Nexus.. I'm going to sell my wifes Nexus S and buy a Galaxy Note while she will take over my Galaxy S2..

help me decide nexus or s3

Hey guys I am up for a replacement on 8/20. I can't decide to get the s3 or the nexus
The s3 has so many features I love over the nexus.better battery life, bigger screen, more ram and a better processor.but the nexus has jellybean already.maybe some members who previously had a nexus can chime in and tell their personal opinion about the phones that would be awesome.thanks guys
Nexus or Sgs 3 and you thinkng??
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
If you are aware for all of these advanteages, than why are you even asking?
It seems like you already know the answer
bottom line WHY GET AN OLD PHONE???
S3 is newer.....cant wait for the Note 2. that will be my next new toy.
I have both the Nexus and S3.
I haven't got around to putting on Jellybean on the Nexus yet.
The S3 feels better in your hand and runs smoother, thanks to the better CPU. The bigger screen is certainly better and doesn't feel awkward either.
The notification light on the S3 is much brighter and more vivid than on the Nexus.
You will also notice how much lighter and thinner the S3 is to the Nexus.
The MicroSD port in the S3 is a nice addition too, something which the Nexus doesn't have.
TouchWiz isn't that bad either and it doesn't seem to slow down the S3.
The only bad thing about the S3 is that the back cover, once removed is actually a bit flimsy. But once its on the main unit, the S3 device as a whole seems to be good quality. Not metal, but not cheap plastic either.
All in all the S3 is a generation ahead of the Nexus, no question about it.
I'm not the biggest Samsung fan, however, if the S3 has all that over the Nexus, I'd certainly go for the Sammy. The Android OS will/can be changed/updated by rooting it. That would give you all the benefits of the better hardware combined w/better roms anyway. If HTC is out of the running, Moto has nothing to offer (american made) and Nexus is that dated then my vote is the S3.
That said, I can't wait to get rid of my kindle fire for the new nexus tablet, that thing is the ****
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
If your using an upgrade get the S3 and worst case trade for nexus + cash. If your buying outright consider value for price/performance ratio... ie: nexus ~$300 vs gs3 ~$600 is the gs3 worth almost double? Is it almost twice as good?
Don't get me wrong I love the gs3 lasts all day does it all, has a micro SD, no direct updates/vanilla experience yet AND its quite a bit more.. I could easily have a nexus + nexus 7 vs my 1 gs3....
Just something to consider

I am in the same boat, dude.
No microSD card on the Nexus is actually a deal breaker for me. Gorilla glass is a necessity - i hate scratch phones. Sound quality for me is a priority and SIII wins hands down.
Thoughts for SIII:
- SD card
- Wolfson DAC
- BT apt-x
- gorilla glass
- better camera
- quad core
Well, the advantages of Nexus:
- price (around £120 less in this country)
- it is google = no bloat, good support, speedy updates
I think the wise decision would be go for SIII when the price drops a little (after iPhoney 5 is introduced)
Thanks guys I am 99 percent going with the s3. I just didn't want to be in same boat so am in right now with this thunderbolt.because of ril issues the t-bolt is still stuck in gingerbread.don't get me wrong the t-bolt has amazing devs.but htc sucks with updating.the phone. I see there is a port for JB already for the s3 but I fear it will be a dead project like all the t-bolt ICS
Roms. This is definitely my last HTC product.

I hope I'm not misunderstanding you but you have NO reason to fear Jellybean becoming a dead project on the S3. Maybe that specific thread will die, but there absolutely will be Jellybean roms for the S3. Many I'm guessing. Just give it a month or two.

Yes that was my fear. the ICS roms on the t-bolt have been in limbo for months now. I am a flash-a-holic and i wanted to make sure this device would be cool. I would love to see a 100% working port of the release for the nexus on this phone. I am dying to check out the new google search feature. blow my i-freak freinds out of the water . they think siri is good wait till they see this.

What made you pick the S3 over the competition?

Hey guys/gals,
I'm literally counting the days til my upgrade, however with phones like the One X and a few others which i can't think of off the top of my head. Rather than asking VS. questions which will be answered by biased views or perhaps answers which don't answer the why i'll ask it like this.
What was the feature that made you buy the phone over the other phones on the market, what is your favourite feature which made the phone a defo puchase?
Thanks to all that answer this for me.
Mainly the processor, big ass screen and clearly the brand Samsung. HTC are good but from past experience I know that what they seem to offer is not always what they actually have to offer. Other phones are just out of the question, like nokia pure view since I would rather buy a camera than buy that phone (though I already have a DSLR so I don't need one). And to be honest I normally pick phones right away and then find everything there is to know about them. I just told myself that now is the time and this is the phone I want to buy.

- Huge community with lots of ROM's and customizations
- Large AMOLED screen (only had good experiences so far)
- Cool addon features such as Smart Stay
- Perfect USB OTG support
- Large battery
- Samsung-branded. (No issue with their devices so far)
- Powerful 4core SoC
Thanks for the input so far guys, its not a case I'm doubting the s3 but I'll probably get lumbered with a 24month contract and I don't want to miss out on another phone due to blindly buying the s3

If I had a Galaxy Nexus as your signature suggests I would have skipped the S3, I don't think the incremental benefits merit a 24 month tie in. Or you could upgrade now and when the next gen handsets are released your S3 and GN should raise enough to buy whatever tickles your fancy.
For me it was the SD card slot and removable battery. Also I was concerned about all of the screen scratch talk with the one X.
On AT&T, the One X looks to be the better performer but couldn't get past the issues above.

Contract ????? £500 PAYG unbranded CPW .

Because the One X is inexcuseably flawed with the lack of replaceable battery and memory slot and traditionally rubbish battery life, and even though the S3 is also flawed most of it is just software problems that can be bodged up after the fact.
SIII doesn't have any serious competition imho. It is the best phone in the market at the moment hands down. If only my other decisions in life are that easy

I totally agree. Especially the fact that the nexus is about to get jelly bean, it's gonna be a brand new phone. Yes the S3 is the best phone out right now ( in my opinion) but the nexus is also fantastic and I miss that phone sometimes.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
To be honest I believe that there soon won't be a device (including Samsung) that will be let's say 2 or 3 times faster, better, etc. that the SIII. Quad core processors came out now so next year probably they will continue to distribute them. Plus custom roms or the SIII will get better, these guys at xda do a better job than any company out there, they are users that make upgrades for users and know what we exactly need. Software is never an issue it can always be upgraded, modified unlike hardware that is something that is hard to replace in a phone. So when I look for a phone I mainly look at the hardware, for the hidden potential of the phone. And to be honest Samsung SIII is the fastest phone currently on the market and we all know well that it has the most juice in it.

The Nexus always gets the latest OS first but as soon as the Galaxy S's get upgraded you just get stuck with a phone that's always worse than the equivalent Galaxy S, and I'd never buy a phone just to get an OS a few months early because I'd quickly realise the mistake I made.

+1. If you have a Nexus already, I agree that it will feel like a new phone with JellyBean on it.
I am still getting the S3 though. I will be new to Android so will have a bit of learning to do, and JellyBean is supposed to be coming to the S3 in Q4, so by then I'll be ready for it and I think it will make the S3 super-super-swishy (from the mere super-swishy it is now).
For me, replaceable batteries & memory cards are a must, so that basically blew many other phones out of the picture. Good camera, USB OTG, MHL-ing to use it as a games console, proper HD screen, good battery - all of these things sold it too me.
No iThings for me. I don't want to get tied into any restrictive iContract with iEULA, not shackled to iTunes, titchy screen, etc etc.
I was happy with my Windows HTC HD2 (before I bricked it). Hoping buying a Samsung flagship model on Android (with the massive user group that's gathering behind it and seemingly fast updates OTA from Sammy) will mean this phone will function well out of the box, and function amazeballs with a few custom tweaks & mods.
Hopefully I will get my UK blue this week :cyclops::victory:
Screen size and speed
Already running Jellybean, but like people have said you can change Software you can't change hardware and one thing i do miss is the S2 camera I had, so the Samera on the S3 is one of my big reasons.
Thanks to everyone who has posted so far.
What competition?
My last phone was an HTC Desire, and since I was displeased with the HTC Sense UI, I just decided that my next phone would be a Samsung. And the S III just happened to be the best phone out there.
hox has too weak battery in my case, so its a no-competition thing actually
next close to perfect phone is still good old i9000
The hype about it - I figured that with all the talk there would be loads of custom roms developed for the phone. I signed up for a two year contract and I wanted a phone that could last two years which this should do well with that processor. Had a Nexus S before and considered buying a Galaxy Nexus, but 16GB internal and no option for external SD just didn't appeal to me.

Consolidating Devices: From a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 7 to a Galaxy Note II

Just picked up my Note II yesterday after a long debate between it and the DNA. Decided to go with the Note II cause I already feel like my Nexus 7 16GB was a mistake. Bought the Nexus 7 in August, but I could barely fit anything on it and ended up using my Galaxy Nexus more still for the past months. Used my Nexus 7 at school often for eBooks, but never really felt like taking it anywhere else.
The Nexus 7 was smaller than my iPad 2 that I sold earlier this year, but still felt like a pain to carry and the storage limit and lack of data connectivity was more of a pain than I thought. I really wanted a 1080P screen in my next phone, but depending on the viewing distance it wouldn't matter anyway... also don't really care for Sense or non removable batteries or SD cards, so decided to pass on the DNA and get the Note II.
Had the Galaxy Nexus 32GB since this time last year, and said I didn't need a new phone this year, but figured I'd give the Note II a try after hearing rave reviews since I could return it if I didn't like it. So far everything has been good. Got a 32GB SD card to put in it, and I copied everything from the Nexus to the card so I could have all my stuff.
On the Galaxy Nexus, no matter what I did, the screen used most of the battery life. I could barely get 2 hours screen on time out of the Nexus with exteneded battery and with my apps installed. Installed mostly the same apps on stock Galaxy Note, and so far I have 2 hours screen on time with 64% left while tethering and playing music on the phone's speaker... just getting insane battery life compared to the Nexus to the point where I'm shocked at how good it is.
The phone definitely feels faster than the Galaxy Nexus even with all the bloatware still installed, so I think I'm gonna keep it especially since the bootloader will be easily unlocked soon. I can't wait to see some TouchWIZ ROM's or more AOSP-like stuff like Paranoid Android to take advantage of the huge screen by modifying the DPI.
My hands are small, so using it one-handed is harder then the Galaxy Nexus, but it's not completely impossible... just taking some time getting used to. The phone's build quality is amazing even though it is plastic also. The plastic looks nice in grey, and it doesn't feel as slippery as the Galaxy Nexus even though it looks like it would be. Makes it easier to hold the phone than I thought it would... Some people say the plastic seems cheap, but to me it reminds me of Oakley sunglass plastic... feels very light and durable... definitely not the same as cheap $10 sunglasses. I haven't even had the phone for 24 hours, but I'm falling in love already.
I will probably keep it and keep my Galaxy Nexus as a backup since I'm new to Verizon and have no spare phone. I will probably sell my Nexus 7 tho since the Note II's resolution, battery life, and screen size are comparable with the bonus of 4G LTE and phone calls. The screen looks more crisp than the Nexus 7, the colors are better, and it fits in my pocket so it will never get left at home.
Anyone else coming from the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, or both, and in awe of the note?
How is the signal strength on the Note II? I have a GNexus right now and swore I would never buy another Samsung due to the poor data connections I have experienced with the GNexus.
The Note II does look like a great device. Just need to make sure I can get mobile data when I am away from WiFi.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2

I'm coming from much the same situation and am trying to decide if I should keep my 7. I love getting updates on time so I will probably sell my gnex and keep the 7. But I do find myself on the couch picking up my note and not the 7. Hmmm...

I'm keeping my 7. Once the newness wears off I'm sure I'll want that slightly larger screen for reading and such at home. I won't be lugging the 7 around while out anymore though. No need because the Note 2 is the perfect hybrid.
I sold my Nexus 7 and my Galaxy Nexus. I don't miss either one. I might be in the market for a Galaxy tab 10.1 though. 7 inch screens seem pointless to me now. I should also note, that I used my Nexus 7 primarily for movies and games, which I find that the note 2 is better at doing both.

I played with one at the verizon store and it and my rezound were sitting @ -90dbm. Adrenalyne states that signal is better than the galaxy nexus.
I really wanted a tablet for school but I have no money. My dad gave me his old acer a500. It works ok for my meads but not as well as I had hoped so I actually ended out using my s3 more often. Now with the note I get double the functionality. Much better in my case.

This is nearly me too. Selling the 7 paid a contract fee for the Note and I just like it a lot more. The 7 is a great device, but if I'm not using my Note I want more real estate. For me that's an iPad 3 as larger android tablets have never blown me away. The nexus 10 would probably make a decent sidekick.
Same here still have the other two though (nexus7 galaxy nexus). Keeping them as backups but haven't used them since I got my Note 2.

I had the nexus which is what my wife is using now. But I never had data issues on it. Debating between a tab or note 10.1....or an Asus transformer

At my horrible signal apartment (we really need a new tower out here), the galaxy nexus hangs around -120 dbm while the Note 2 is about 104 dbm. Also I can actually walk away from windows on the phone without dropping calls again, which would happen with the nexus. We're going to call that a great improvement!
I never noticed abnormally bad signal on my Nexus, but that is probably because I was coming for a carrier that has less reception where I live. It seems like the Note II does get better reception tho, and that could definitely play into the the better battery life I am experiencing.
I'm pretty sure at this point I'm going to sell the Nexus 7 and just use the note as my primary. They both have almost the same resolution (1280x720 vs 800), but the Note II has better colors, faster processor, more ram, and more memory. Note II also has better cameras, more features, and can fit in my pocket.
I used to only like stock Android... didn't like TouchWIZ on my original Galaxy S which drove me to learn how to install ROMs, but now I feel like TouchWIZ is way better and actually brings a lot to the table. My previous two phones were the Nexus S and Galaxy S, so I will miss AOSP a little bit, but not much since there are a lot of useful features for power users that don't slow down the phone now.
Sony vaio duo 11 is a nice hybrid... I love my note2 but it can't replace a computer or tablet with clients. I haven't done much with it since it's mainly for work but it has great performance so far for a decent price

I don't have a Nexus 7 but I have a TF700T. I have not pulled out my tablet since I got my Note II. Not sure if that is a bad or good thing. I can't sell it because it was a Father's Day gift and the wife would be upset.
Just sold my 7 and nexus phone. Love the note 2. Best phone i have ever had.

In the past 3 weeks I've gone from an iPhone 5 to a Galaxy s4 to an HTC one.
My small review:
For stability and ease of use the HTC one and the iPhone 5 are neck and neck. The S4 is in another galaxy far far behind. The sloppiness if the UI and the severe lag which cripples every aspect of us put the phone there. The One and the iPhone 5 have zero lag.
For screen clarity I put the HTC one and iPhone neck and neck again. The S4 is so saturated that it seems like I am playing Beach Buggy Blitz all the time.
Home screen. The iPhone 5 has the simplest home screen much like the easy version of the Galaxy s4. The HTC One however has a sleek and modern functional home screen.
Customization goes to the galaxy s4. The dev community is strong and roms are built daily. This leads to another item. The HTC one does not need a rom, it works beautifully out of the box. The reason I put so many roms on my galaxy s4 was to extend the battery and reduce lag which didn't happen.
The iPhone jailbreak community is pretty great. The items simple work and tethering is very easy to set up with mywi. The android root community wont ever be as great because of all the different phones using android compared to one iPhone which gathers all the devs.
Build quality is hands down HTC one. The iPhone is a distant second and the galaxy is exploding in a black hole in the atmosphere 2,000,000,000 light years away. The weight of the HTC one is fantastic. I don't like the featherweight phones at all. When it's in my picket I want to know it's there.
Camera: haven't tested yet.
Sound: the HTC one is loudest but not much louder than the galaxy s4 although speaker placement makes a great deal of difference. If the galaxy s4 speaker was on front it would be much louder although with less bass and more treble. The iPhone isn't anywhere near.
The battery is topped on the HTC one. It is lasting a good amount more than the galaxy did with powersave on. The iPhone is far back in line. Powersave does not slow the HTC one where it made the galaxy s4 extremely laggy.
That's it for now.

Welcome to the group!
I've been in the Android world pretty much forever but I'm recent to the HTC One. I do agree when you say "The HTC one does not need a rom, it works beautifully out of the box." because I come from a heavy rooting, unlocking, flashing background with all my past phones and to be honest I have yet to find a good reason why to do so with this phone. I believe I have no gain with further customizing what came very well delivered by factory.
The more I use my HTC One the more I find that it was the right investment (coming from the Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE). Looking forward to more exiting features in the upcoming OS upgrades!

^yep agree. 1st phone I have EVER left completely stock aside from the Nexus 4, which I ended up modding for LTE anyway. No Apex Launcher, no rooting to remove things (though I did disable Lookout, T-Mobile TV/Caller ID/My Account, Sound Hound, Dropbox, Picasa, TuneIn Radio and the stock browser in settings because I won't use them.)
They nailed this phone, nothing to change except maybe add Instagram and Google+ to Blinkfeed which I am sure they will.
If you use a cell phone as your media & social consumption device, and love to take photos/videos to share with family & friends, there's nothing better than the One. My take anyway.
I moded my phone and run the viper Rom just so I could theme everything black and red. This is the most amazing phone I have ever used in my life and I've had a new phone every few months. The only time I liked a phone this much was when I first switched to android in 2009

I agree to some extent. I had the htc one for about a month and then switched to the s4. Build quality, software quality, yes htc one is the ish. Nothing touches it. I loved that phone like I've never loved any other phone. It's just almost perfect. Even my iPhone friends like it and many asked me to trade lol. It's that awesome. Now the Samsung galaxy s4 is no slouch. I agree that stock firmware is pretty much crap and it lags and after trying roms after roms, they all just lag and are not stable even with stock base. But there are two roms that I must say have awesome battery life and stability and they recently just popped out. This phone finally has battery life that's as good as the htc one and this rom hast lagged. Agreed that htc doesn't need rooting or mod because it's prefect outbid the box. We must also remember the retarded amount of features the s4 carries. I though I would not use none but I use air view, and multi windows and I'm pretty happy thanks to this rom. But besides that, the htc one demolishes the galaxy s4
