What you're holding is not an iPhone, friend.
So there is no way to change the function of the double tap on the key? Perhaps to something more useful as some probably have no use for the voice command system. Can anyone answer this? And yes I'm sure the op is aware that he or she does not hold an iPhone.
if this is a problem for you, an iphone is the better choice

maybe the iphone it is a better choice for the people who doesnt want to modify their OS and work with a fixed one instead of what their want in personal use.
long press for a ****ty multitask it is not the way to go, and with 3 keys 2 click on home is the faster way until we got a multitask like windows mobile 6.5 with taskfacade or something and a click on notification bar to use.

I whole-heartedly agree, and I actually have a hard time believing that your question was met with all those snarky comments from a forum dedicated to customizing the most customizable mobile OS on the planet.
I too would like to be able to change the default home double click behaviour. I'm sure it can be done, i just don't know how. Any ideas, people?

I'll give you a sensible response, as of yet, you can't change the double tap function on the S2. It may be customized in the future but so far you'll just have to live with the annoying voice control app.
I hope that helps
Thanks for the non-sarky response

Indeed it helps. Cheers!
I've seen an application called multitasking pro that supposedly opens with a double tap of the home button. But I guess it wouldn't work on S2 yet, huh?

I don't know, Install it and see, I doubt it will work though, I doubt it'll be able to override a stock Samsung app.

Wow, way to be an ass. Never heard of Quick Desk?
All the multitasking of the iPhone from double tap, but with the option to add widgets as well?
If that's not one upping the iPhone at it's own game then I don't know what is.
I for one know I'd rather have a multi tasking app than a voice search I'll never use.
Anyway, the closest i've found is http://android.modaco.com/content/s...odaco-com/340047/take-control-of-home-button/ but this is only working on KE2 as of the moment.
Guys, what I'd like is a long hold on the BACK button to bring up the multi-task menu, this would feel like less of an effort than the long press on HOME.
Hi,
do someone know if it's possible to remap the menu button on our galaxy s 2 to be the multitask button ( I mean the app switcher ) ? I searched hours on Google to see if it was possible and I found a couple way to get it to work. But I'm not sure it works for our phone because we miss some files in the key layout directory.
If you know how we could remap it and get the 3 dots on the screen, let me know !
I'd be so happy !
Have a nice day Belig
My Suggestion
Hey Belig
I want to have that too, it's so anoying to long press the home button everytime.
But I think getting the 3 Dots on the screen is pretty ****ty, so if we could do it that when we press the menu button the "recent apps" pops up. And when we long-press the menu button we can get the normal menu. That would be the easiest and best fix for that i think.
But I'm sorry to tell you that I don't know how to do that.
And I think the problem is that nobody is interested in doing that... , as I saw this question more than once on XDA-developers.
But if someone reads it and is interested, please do that! I would be able to do a little donation to that aswell if needed!

I am also really interested in this. Would be awesome if someone could do this.
Update, this was what I found, if you check the last page, first post, it seems that this method works fine with Samsung Galaxy S2 [running cm9, at least ] .
[HOWTO] Remap hardware button to ICS recent apps
Unfortunately, it involves decompiling and other nasty things, which would require quite a bit of effort. Would've been nice, if some ROM, had this option prebuilt. [ changing via settings].
Just a quick update/info. This has been merged in latest CM10 and is also a feature of cm9.

So, I went through the changelog of cm10 and found this :
Settings: Hardware key custom rebinding (2/2)
Description (sounds cool, can't wait for the next build ) :
Code:
Settings for rebinding the actions performed on the following key press events:
Home long-press, menu press, menu long-press, search press, search long-press,
app-switch press and app-switch long-press.
The available actions are: Nothing, open/close menu, recent apps switcher,
search assistant, voice search and in-app search.
EDIT : Sorry, hadn't seen Spiralzz's post. I was actually having this in my build cm10 itself. [ the one I flashed today ] Awesome!!! Now, I have set long-press home button to voice search, press menu button for app-switcher, and long-press menu button for search . Thinking of using, three button in-app for menu options for a while. Thanks a ton

Where can I access this in CM9? I´m on the 7 aug nightly.
I didn´t find it in settings/system.
i resume this old thread. I'm using cyanogenmod 10, so i can remap button as i want. But i would try the stock jelly bean from samsung (obviously rooted) and i I would remap the menu button for multitasking. There is now the possibility? Thanks
Just read about this ROM for the One X and was wondering about anyone elses thoughts on it.

sense 4.1 isnt the change that say sense 2.1 to 3.0 or 3.0 to 3.5 was
its incremental bug fixes really...many of the bugs are fixed by custom roms anyway

watching the video, it seems quick settings are back, it's the version that mik made, idk if football added it in or htc?
I really want to change my recent apps button to be used as a menu button. Every single app has the 3 dots in a different place. I want to able to press a single button in a centralized place and have the same action occur across every app. It's dumb they would get rid of that. Quick Settings aren't bad, either.

It is also supposed to be silky smooth and allow for lag free movement with live wallpaper. And by what I saw on the video it looks very promising.

I agree with this 100% :good: the "Settings" button is one of the most used buttons, and having it bounce around is a real PITA.

Email or otherwise contact the developer of the app and tell them to upgrade them to the new standard. Once they do that it will get rid of the 3 button bar at the bottom of the screen and settings should be in the right location.
Hi there,
My phone is a SGS2 with CyanogenMod 10.1.3 stable installed.
I'm looking for a way to remap the physical Home button of my phone with the kill current app functionality.
I've already activated the developer mode and thus can kill an app with a long press on the return key. But it is not really convenient as I need to kill an app quicker (compared to the few seconds delay of the long press gesture).
I've also tried LMT Launcher but the kill-app gesture I've configured take too much time also. The insta-kill feature is what I'm looking for...
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance
You might be able to do that with xposed and a something like gravity box. Bear in mind gravity box isn't intended for CM though, so read the gravity box op thoroughly before you try. Else you may find a different module which can help you.
If you can't get it to work, a way that is guaranteed is to switch roms to one that has full hardware key rebinding... SlimKat for example.

Thanks!
I'll see what I can do with these options.
So ive been search around for a while now on how to fix this. And to anyone that chimes in and says why do you need the menu button obviously you don't use older apps, the new touch button on the screen is a huge annoyance especially since i've used my phones this way since my first S1. Regardless this is how i want it and so do many other people.
Currently this is only for a rooted phone
I have figured out how to remap the left soft key from the App Switcher/Multi window over to the old style menu key. Instructions for that can be found here
But now i don't have any way of switching to my currently open apps, after remapping the left key, the longpress now takes you to search. and long pressing on the home button also takes you to another variation of the search (both i dont use nor want). I want to be able to remap my left softkey on longpress to open up currently open apps (APP_SWITCH) and it would be nice if long pressing on Home could open the Task Manager as it did on my S3.
As far as i can tell editing of the longpress function is done via a Policy edit. Read about that HERE
Keep in mind that post is from 2014 so i have no idea if the internal code is still being handled the same way, i couldn't even find that file on my S6, but i did find a file called SEPOLICY in my root folder using ROOT EXPLORER. Do any of you know more about this and how I can go about changing this? im sure its a code level adjustment. Thanks
Long-press home button can be controlled without root easily.
Check out this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spada.nowgesturetweaksfree
I use the long-press home to get to my last used app.
I wonder if I can remap my buttons to launch any other apps.. Will have to tinker around a bit.

very useful. menu for navigation is long long outdate. software nave or 3 dots is the customary way to go. adding a secondary menu button is redudant and unnecessary. my little ewww comment brought a lot to the table. you tryingt to call me out on it is less useful.

lol f off
If you guys use Dropbox, how do you get to the menu with SORT, etc.. without a menu key. This is making me crazy. I'm using nova launcher and there is no floating menu key. ????
The problem is if not every developer uses it, it's inconsistent.
It often helps if the options etc. In apps are on the top, so you don't have to fidget with your phone to reach the top or use two hands.
The menu button on every app is positioned somewhere else, so I find the op wanting it justified.
All in one gestures let's you remap every key, for some odd reason on my s4 I can remap the menu key, but on the S6 for some odd reason the option of the menu key has vanished in the same app:what:
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
Hi pal. Hope it helps. Make 254 button remap, then install nova launcher, in tab gestures select long press menu and then recent app. Profit! Now once tapped you have menu button, long pressed - recent apps.
So, i made it, i use it. It works.
