Nokia Wireless Fatboy Charging Pillow - HTC Droid DNA

I just purchased this on ebay. All though, I am pretty sure that I bought the last one selling for $77 and free shipping. But as soon as I get this, I will write a review. I will also include how it works with different cases.

All right, I have had a day to play with this new charging pillow and I have to say that I love it. This is my first experience with wireless charging and will say that charging is a little slower than plugging in but if your like me and charge your phone every night, then this is the perfect place to put your phone to sleep. The charger inside the pillow is the same oval Nokia charger, just stuffed inside a Fatboy pillow. It has a tight packed, almost moldable Styrofoam that surrounds the charging plate, I was able to make a perfect indent for my DNA to lay in. The material is a very thick canvas, almost like what a snowboarding jacket might be made of. It also has some weight which helps it from moving around to much, I would say it weighs close to a full can of soda. In the box was the pillow (with cord attached) and a detachable plug unit but not micro usb, its a tiny 0.5v ac plug. I only own the Verizon sold black TPU case and noticed no difference charging with or without. I wasn't able to time drain and charge but will try it today and post some numbers for everyone.

Update: I thought that I should mention that this charger makes no noises but does have a dim amber led that glows inside the pillow when your phone is charging.

Looks like a black Nillkin hard case -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Nillkin-Ultra-thin-Hard-Cover-Case-For-HTC-Droid-DNA-X920e-LCD-Guard-/121029236263?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1c2de79627

Yes, actually a brown Nillkin case. I posted a topic about a clear argyle case that you could see the rear LED through and someone did a full review on this case, same thread. I love it, by far my favorite case.

It's just the Nokia DT-900 with a pillow. Does the pillow add any significant benefit over the charger alone?

cool
Looks a lot more stylish than the LG one from Verizon. I think I'm going to try and keep the wireless charging to a minimum as I hear it shortens the Battery life.

The only benefit, I think, is that it won't slide off very easy.

While I do like my two red ones, I don't think it's worth rushing and/or paying more than 50 dollars for. Since I got them for free they are great and much appreciated but I wouldn't get SUPER excited, especially when you see how slow Qi charging really is.(4-5 hours for a full charge)

Well, I have the red one and I bought it for $77 and free shipping. I believe they retail for $99. I love mine. It may not charge as fast as usb but I love the convenience and it's perfect for me. I lay it down on my night stand before I go to bed and when I wake up its charged. If I need to grab my phone, there is no fiddling with wires and the pillow makes it very easy to place and it doesn't slip around. So I'm sure someone would love to pick it up and from what I know they're kind of hard to come by at the moment.

Found Nokia Fatboy on Verizonwireless.com
I searched tonight, was just going to order the 900 with no pillow from Verizon and they are selling the Fatboy for 59.99
Since I haven't posted, I can't post the link, but just go on verizon's site and search Nokia Fatboy.

Thanks for this! With my discount I got another pillow for less than 40 bucks!!!!

Extended Battery?

Does anyone know if Samsung is going to be putting out an official extended battery for the Galaxy S3? I don't trust the cheap "extended" third party batteries that are likely relabeled standard sizes with cheap cells, considering they're the exact same size, yet claim 1000+ mAh over the standard.
They did it for the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon, but I have no idea when that battery came out in comparison to the Galaxy Nexus's launch.
Any suggestions?
I just picked up the Hyperion extended battery and back cover.
first initial charge:
Almost 42 hours of use.
Just so you know, I loaded my s3 with as much load as I could:
Turned off auto bright set screen just past middle
Engaged all my "live" apps that Galway update, including eBay, tapatalk, xda pre., etc.
Turned on WiFi, blue tooth, data, and every possible battery trainer I could think of and put all my emails to push.
I you tubed the hell out of it, looked at some porn vids, played the greatest game ever made for android as much as possible, basically tried to get to zero as fast as possible.
42+ hours and then it went time red.
Hyperion is a very reliable battery.
Something else weird:
My WiFi signal was stronger.
Could be a placebo thing but I will report back again Friday, as I need to charge for 8 hours again. It is suggested to drain to red and charge fir 8 hours straight a few times.
Hyperion ftw !
Fyi 4000 ma.
Lol I even painted the battery cover world rally blue to match my scooby

Nice car, I have a black '04. :good:
Do you have (or could you please post) a picture of the phone with the extended case sitting on a flat surface? I'm curious how much it makes the phone stick up. Also, have you come across any (protective) cases for extended battery backs?
that doesn't look any thicker than my epic did.

I'll try to post up some comparison pics today later on
Also have not looked around for extended cases but I think I have seen some.
OK so here's some comparison pics.
I used my htc rezound as something to compare it with. I think for some this at be to much, but the case actually makes the phone more ergonomical.
I loved the build of my amaze (resounds cousin) so for me the thickness isn't an issue.

Hola
Another inquiry... Did you ever come across a thin phone case that was compatible with the extended battery cover?
Btw thanks for the info on the battery and accompanying photos.
Edit: ahhh never mind. I missed the post where you said that you have not looked for a case.
"So what you want me to do 'bout that?"
Link to said extended battery? Is it for the Att lte or international SG3 ??

Need to keep an eye on this thread. I know I will be looking for an extended life batter at some time.

Just eBay it. Hyperion hasvtheir own account and (another reason I buy from them) they are in Michigan. Nice not to have to buy from China.
I paid 16$ for the battery and cover.
I think the buy it now was like 20$
I thought I saw cases for extended batteries on eBay but not sure.
I'm gonna 're do my back cover and clear cote it and see how I feel about it. I like the naked feel. I may just do a full invisible body armor or something.
Also I previously contacted andida they said extended batteries for the gs3 would be out soon and it appears they are on eBay ad of yesterday.
I may buy one just for comparison.
I think the Andida was 4500 as opposed to this one being like 4100ma or something.
Edit: just looked at the battery... made in China....lol. ah well. Still a good product.

If you do end up finding a case that will protect the phone well and fits the extended battery then please post a link. I'm not going to buy an extended battery until I can buy a case for it. I have that bad habit of periodically dropping things. :banghead:

I would very much appreciate that. Since the S3 is so thin already, I was thinking about getting an extended battery.
That was my thought too. I never thought I'd say this, but it might actually be too thin. I also ordered a Seidio Active w/kickstand case, but that won't fit the extended battery.
Edit: A bit of new info I just found, Mugen is planning a 4600mAh battery w/cover and a protective case for it. They just recently released a 2300mAh battery, but the big one isn't out quite yet.
https://www.facebook.com/MugenPowerBatteries
I have had great experiences with Seidio's extended batteries. I emailed them asking if they intend to make one for the G3. They replied and confirm that they will make one but would not give me any eta on it.
I just bought a Anker battery rated @ 2200mAh.. I prefer swapping batteries vs. having a thicker and heavier phone. I have used Anker with the sensation and the amaze. never let me down.

I had the Power brand from them for my EVO 4G. That thing ran all day with me playing games from time to time and playing on the internet. I think I might have went to the red maybe 3 or 4 times with that thing and it was late at night. I will be keeping an eye out for it from them.
One thing about the Seidio is their "soft coat" battery door. Unlike the oem cover which I find slippery, this soft coat gives a slight resistance.
I am looking to buy the seidio active with kickstand. This Commuter is too slippery! If I were to buy it, could I reasonably expect that seidio's eventual extended battery will fit in it?

GET THIS: search over. http://www.cowboom.com/product/823263
its a rebranded seido (3400mah). its double the life for cheap. they used to sell this in retail at best buy. bought mine a week ago, it was 6.99 then.
its basically the 4000mah battery with less mah. but for way cheaper.
cowboom is great but if you have doubts you can google or ebay the model number HDB21SB its usually under 20 bucks.

Given the little flap in the back of the dock i see no way that it could.
the battery nearly doubles the thickness of the 3d for 90 percent of the length.
the battery its self is basically two stock batteries stacked together.
I have both the 4000 and 3500. The 4000 is my primary and 3500 the secondary. They're both excellent. You just have to reboot it a couple of times to get a full charge. It can't be helped.

I have the Anker 1900. Stock battery size and was cheap! About £8-9.

The 4000 and 3500 you posted are the ones I have. People say it makes are phone look big, but I just tell them to not hate on me for for not having small hands like they do.
What made me get them? When I was out in the field, I wasn't always near an outlet. There where times when I was away from a power outlet for weeks. It was nice knowing I had the only working phone out there to make calls.

So the Seido Innocell and the 3500 Incredicell from AccessorySwamp.com are quality batteries you're saying. Heard anything about the Laza Zcell? It's 3460, instead of the 3500, and a bit cheaper. I think I've narrowed my choices to the 3 above. Thinking I'll start with the 3500.
Absolutely. Those both have a great track record. As for the last one, that's an odd one for me. Some people say it works, and others no. It's all about where you want to put your money pimpin.
i got the platinum SE (the one on cowboom). it works great, but i dont use it anymore. Battery life is good enough with stock after the first couple days of excitement for my phone wore off. Now i have extra battery left every night when i go to sleep, and so theres no point putting on the bigger heavier battery

And if you guys had the extended batteries, the results would be three times that shown.
The 4000 can also be bundled with a protective case. It's definitely a good investment if you're clumsy, or have rough working environments.

For those that might be interested, Seidio informed me today that their DNA case will provide a hole for the back LED.
Here are the delayed pictures of the White Nikkin Ebay case for the DNA....
My quick review: it is very slim, textured back finish, matte touch finish on the smooth sides and front. It allows the phone to be put face down without touching the the screen but not by much. Not very much protection on the top and bottom of the phone itself, though. reminds me a lot of the ringke slim case for the Galaxy Nexus with less top and bottom end protection, but not quite as slim. For the money, i'd rate it a pretty decent buy. I originally had a verizon holster case, and i have the Diztronic here and an Otterbox Commuter coming for when I go snowboarding.
Mike
Thanks for the awesome pics. Love how slim it is, but I'm not sure about the lack of protection at the top and bottom
I also go snowboarding. Let me know how you like the Commuter.
Thanks for the review. I ordered the brown one but still haven't received it yet. Judging from your pictures though, it looks like it will suit me just fine.

Nillkin thin case from HK

I didn't write this review but do have this case and I have to say, that it is by far my favorite. I baby my phone but was annoyed by the fingerprint magnet back and wanted something unintrusive and thin. This case is not only both but also has a small lip for setting your phone face down.

Nice
Looks like it gives considerably less girth than the Otterbox defender I purchased. A trade off for overall protection.
Loving this case. Just got mine in a couple days ago. I've had my phone in the Body Glove case and an Otterbox Defender previous to this and this is the best fitting most stylish of the three. I hate large cases so im bias against the defender but it was the only case I could track down locally at first. The Body Glove case was alright but I had issues with landscape typing and accidently hitting the power botton, also the honey comb design on the inside left marks on the phone.
The Nillkin leaves no markings, fits the phone perfectly and offers enough protection for me. I constantly lay my phone screen down and the lip works perfectly for keeping the screen off of surfaces. For the price you cant beat this case.
Nice! Been waiting for something like that. Thanks!
Love the look of that leather case!

I purchased the Nillkin off of ebay too, in black. Came fast. Love the case. Way better than the Verizon silicone one I had. Its a quality fitting and feeling product.

I’m guessing if you’re reading this you’re like me and have a couple dozen or so gadgets from smartphones to tablet. Running a powerstrip that has 5-6 different chargers for each device is annoying and takes too much room. So finding the Anker 5 port charger was exactly what I was looking for.
SPECS
iPad 2.1 Amps - This is the highest output.
Samsung Tab 1.3 Amps - This is the second highest output.
iPad 2.1 Amps - Again the highest output.
iPhone 1 Amp - Lowest but common for most phones.
Android 1 AMP - Same as iPhone port
3.6 x 2.6 x 1.0 inch dimensions
It has a 5 foot power cord that plugs into the main unit. So it’s meant to be set on a desk or table for easy access to the usb ports. As you can see from the pictures its quite small and compact. The footprint is smaller than most phones so it takes little space in the work area.

It’s simple and minimal which is a good thing. My unit had a fun little surprise when opened up for the holidays. Nice touch I would have to say for holidays. Also, the Packaging is recyclable for you ECO friendly people out there.
Build Quality
As it can clearly be seen, the unit has taken cues from Apple with its minimalistic white design. It pretty much looks like an idevice charger on steroids. It has the Anker logo on one side and the serial number on the other and that’s it. No leds or lights which is a nice thing as sometimes devices have really annoying bright LEDS. It comes in glossy white finish and is made of a durable plastic.
Feeling it in hand; it has a good solid feel to it. Nothing is flimsy or loose upon examination while having pretty decent weight to it giving it a nice touch.
One thing I would like to point out is that it slides around quite easily. There isn’t any rubber feet for anti-slipping. It’s a simple fix though as adhesive rubber feet can be had on amazon or ebay for a few bucks.
Also, it is mean to be set down horizontally. It would have been nice to be able to set it vertically like so.
****picture*****
But it’s just not stable enough to be so.
Testing/Performance
Using the following devices:
Nexus 5
Nexus 7 2013
S3
Ipad 4
Ipad 2
Sansa Clip Zip Mp3 player
Many different combinations were used of the devices above and it was able to charge them with no problems or hiccups. The charger only gets warm but never overly hot.
Conclusion
For 20 bucks this is a no brainer. Great performance to value ratio.; Especially if you have dozens of gadgets.
Note- I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation, and I promised that my review is fair and honest
Thanks for the review

Does it charge a almost dead battery as fast as the original charger?

The two ipad slots do because they output at higher than 1.0
wish they would make a quality unit that can do all 5 at 2.1
I hate having to "pick" the right outlet
Funny I was just looking at this online myself...
I was under the impression the apple ports cant charge Samsung, and vice versa due to the datalines needing grounding? Are you able to confirm?
Otherwise it would be a shame since the oem charger does 2.0A... in which case the 4 port version might be more suitable to those who have more android devices/tablets.
I have a power strip my bed to keep my phones and tablets charged. It would be nice to go to a more simplified solution like this Anker, but having the Apple specific ports is a turn-off to me. I've bought Anker batteries for a few different phones in the past, and I've always been very pleased with the products Anker sells. Guess I need to check out their 4-port charger that a member previously mentioned, and also look at the other chargers they offer

Well first, if you have a smartphone or iphone that has their oem charger at 1 amp. you can use any port. at smart phones will only draw the max SAFE power.

I can't be sure about the grounding. But i was under the impression it was due to the amp ratings. I don't know about the oem chargers though

It'll charge it as fast or faster depending on what port you use

the apple specific ports aren't really specific ports. the IPAD ports are 2.1 amps. The iphone is 1 amp. You can charge youre android device on any of those 3. Normally smartphones have a 1 amp charger but they can max out at say like 1.4 amps. So you can plug it in at a 2.1 amp port but will only draw 1.4 amps. Phones have a built in safe guard so it wonts draw too much.
My phones all have 2amp chargers (Notes) the S3 also fully takes advantage of the 2amp charge rate of my Note Chargers.
