[Q] Rooting a LG Optimus L7 v10j - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I saw this topic (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895472) and I installed the v10j firmware on my LG p705. Sucess. But i can´t root it, just because I only can see de img extracted form .kdz file on the folder when it got´s locked and start to be used to flash... Is there a way to create a kdz file with this modified system.img.ext4 ? What can I do to be more lucky to root this phone?
Thanks!

Hi,you can use the script by bn4dry.it can be found in the the thread by pkastaras for p700.i. forget which page.

The computer should just have LG drivers installed.Run the script and select the 2nd option-special. Don't forget the two lines when the phone boots the 2nd time.Read the thread thoroughly ,this tool works,it worked for me with same version 10j.
Use this modified one

Edit- it should have supersu try to use rootchecker or titanium back up find out

Hey,
I tried that old-school a lot of times and finally I could root it. When I saw "lg keyboard has stoped", I really knew that finally worked. The strange thing is that the system haven't came with a superuser app, so I installed "superuser".
Btw, thanks for helping. Around 0:30 (gmt -3) thr procedure got sucess, just few before your post. I thanked both your posts!

Looks like the devs are having trouble to unlock the bootloader, and thats why we dont have great roms like cyanogen for our phones. I hope that they can unlock it, not only for cm10, but overclocking tools too...

Seems like its complicated, at times we appear too close then again too far, does it mean the fellows at LG managed to lock their device in a manner that no one can find out ?

Maybe because of L7 isn´t a "best seller" cell phone, we have less developers to this cell phone... If Optimus was like a Galaxy SII, surely would have been unlocked...
I´m just waiting to the Jelly Bean update. I was a little lucky that my model isn´t from Brazil (brazillian model is p705f, with a very old actual firmware, like v10c), so I can put p700 or p705 newest firmwares, but i´ts a bit boring that we can´t go ahead in that phone customizing..

thanks, this is were i first looked. it all seems to be for windows. will look again
So I tried and tried and tried again to get superoneclick to recognise my phone last night and failed. It hung after starting ADB connection. Would not continue no matter what I tried. Anyone encountered this problem or even tried superoneclick using Ubuntu?
I have looked for a script to run to achieve root but can't find one, as I can use ADB manually. Very frustrating.
Can't even update firmware with Sammy software cos it needs windows

odin is for windows only i believe, which i dont have, dagnabbit!
i am looking at heimdall although it is not supported and nobody seems to have tried it. atleast not from my quick searching. ill continue to look.
so if i cant root 2.2.1 with linux then i should look at updating firmware to 2.3 and then i can root with standard recovery and a zip update?

Problems rooting my xperia ion! Acces denied...

Hello fellow xda'ers !
I recently tried to unlock the bootloader for my XPERIA ION and I think I managed to do it. It rebooted in a "new" state so everything I had was gone. Not sure if that's what's supposed to happen?
Well, then I tried to root with the "bin4ryv18" runme.bat.
It goes fine until it keeps on running ,so something went wrong...
Also when using another program, it says it "failed on data/local/tmp permission denied".
I don't know how I should continue from here? I'm quite a noob when it comes to this.
Do I flash something first ?

Yes but insn't that an early version? I just flash the file with the command "flashboot...kernel.elf"? And after that i'll be able to root it?
If so, can i then update to a newer version?

Honestly I don't know, because I don't have an Xperia Ion. I don't want to say yes or no because if i'm wrong you phone could get bricked. But a similar question is asked in that thread and just wait for someone to answer it.

Do not use KDZ/LGMDP

Moderator, please dont close/delete this thread
I see many users hard bricking their devices after getting an error in KDZ/LGMDP. Please use these dangerous software only as a last resort to revert back to stock rom, in all other cases, you are advised to flash a zip of a stock rom
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda app-developers app
I use the KDZ with no problem a lot of times. The LGMDP I think it's a little more risky.
I had no problems with LGMDP and as a complete noob it wasn't hard - found a good thread with proper instructions and stuck to it. If you are going to play with something you don't understand I wouldn't be surprised if a phone or two was bricked. Doesn't mean the software is bad.

SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH
I use Kdz without Any problem, but I know some people who install a new baseband, with a Rom that's need a new baseband ( They install the Rom that need New baseband before install the new baseband )
So I think this is the main mistake :/ ( Not sure)

Define luck.. The software is programmed to run the same code everytime a specific button is clicked, so how come only 9 out of 10 retries with same procedure are successful? I just don't get that.

[TOOL] KDZ - Extract and Merge

I was looking on the web for some kind of kdz file extraction and re-zip tool that could help with inserting the root file AND possibly the V20B bootloader unlock function for all of our L9 variants. Being a P769 user I would definitely gravity to using our phone first! But I found this link in android and it shows you how to extract a kdz via LG UPTESTEX MOD. Sound familiar, well it should because that's what we use to offline flash our phones. So it's saying that we can extract, modify then merge the files back INTO A KDZ for flashing. If this is true then we can manipulate the ROM! but I'm no devy so I can't so do. Here is the link for anyone curious about it:
Oh my apologies if I didn't put this in the right forum. I always wan to place things in the general forum so that I get maximum eyeage. But I placed it here for dev's to see.
Thanks for sharing! I hope the devs here can use this to their advantage!

Maybe we can load up cyanogenmod with the stock kernel a-la 2nd init with this method. THANKS
Well nice thought, but I think it wont work. I think so for a simple reason. We already tried that over at the p970 forum. I dont really remember of the dev who tried it, but it was either navossoc or xonar, if I remember correctly. He said something like, it s possible to extract the bin files, but he receives some nonsense code and doesnt know, how to interpret and put them back together. If you need the source, pm me please and I ll look it up

Xperia U about to be thrown at garbage

I'm sick of this junk phone!!!
It's locked and I have no idea who told those guys from the development section that it can be rooted even if bootloader is locked, couse i'll be damn if it worked for me.
I tryed every option shown and none worked.
Hell it dosen't even show me the restore option, every time I have to manualy go to settings and hit restore.
And in <<only one>> option I get the RootMe restore option, the one for those with open bootloader...
And I also get a lot of error in the command promt, and that shouldn't happen.
Dose anyone have any suggestions or anything? Couse I can't talk with those guys due to this new user thing... X(
I can't use it, can't sell it, I swear that for 200E that it cost me, i'll throw it away

I found this after 2 minutes searching xda...
The guide is for Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.10 , i don't know what firmware do you have.. so if its any newer than 6.1.1.B.1.10 than you should just flash ONLY the kernel for 6.1.1.B.1.10 , then follow this guide till the end, then after root is achieved.. flash back the original kernel for your version of firmware.
I always root this way, and i never had any problems , just before rooting set the display of your phone to NOT turn off for at least 5 minutes, not 30 seconds as it is at default.
I have some kernels if you need them
Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.10
Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.54
Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.100
I have the 6.1.1.B.1.54 and my god haven't I tryed this option too. It was the very first method I found on xda back in 2012 and it failed. I will try it again however but I expect the same result as the first time...

all u need is a little patience. first flash stock 6.1.1.b.1.10.ftf that u can download from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391151
in the android 4.0 section flash it using flashtool and repeat the same methods u tried earlier and report it.
It doesn't matter dump ur phone but being this way u'll never get to learn stuff............
Remember to calm down first, so your head will be clear. I was also exasperated when I was unable to root my phone with .54 kernel. I had a lot of difficulties because I am on ubuntu 13.10 and I had to first properly install the packages required by flashtool. After a gruelling 3 days of failures I decided to step back a while so I could calm down and relax. Finally I got my phone rooted after I redownloaded a .10 kernel.
Sent from my ST25i using Tapatalk
When u hurry hurry hurry u will overlook a ton of things and miss a lot of essential steps even though you say "i have tried all methods and did them correct" a human is a human and obviously can make mistakes without even knowing them. and then u fail and get hatred but thats the part where u need to cool down. In this thread i have seen a lot of Correct answers for you i even used them and managed to root my Xperia U st25i with 1.54 firmware aswell the kernel is essential in it to so take some time and relax read the threads properly and even if something fails to download Search on XDA or google and u will have so much correct answers that u will be amazed of
if u are on .54 fw then u need to download .10 kernel and flash it via flashtool and then use bin4ry's method (restoring the RootMe file) and then reflash the .54 kernel
u will get the kernel in the op of the thread linked below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028139
and if u seriously want to get into rooting and tweaking your phone's system then the first thing you need is a calm mind or else you will end up bricking your device
