HTC or Samsung? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am ditching my Defy soon and going for a powerpack phone.
I have 2 phones in my mind now:
1. Samsung Note 2
2. HTC Butterfly
Which one do I go for? Very confused tbh.

HTC has better build quality but Samsung is more consumer friendly. I would go with Samsung.

For the same reason, I'd go with HTC. Being on XDA / possibly wanting a custom rom I'd definitely prefer build quality.

If I had to make a choice, note2 with S-pen ,are the best invasion in mobile world this year, and from what I see, Samsung is supporting its devices very well, better than HTC, so ya, go with Semi

I'd vote for HTC.... Build quality is what they provide and ROMs is what xda supports. So no doubt for the butterfly. Go go go

That's what you get wrong you don't need custom roms with the note 2 stock rom is very stable and fluid.. Unless u want aosp experience and are afraid the updates will be delayed by Samsung

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I have to say that I love it. I think the Touchwiz interface is nicer than HTC's. Although, HTC usually has better speakers on their phones (even the ones without Beats Audio). I personally like the plastic casing on my Galaxy Note 2, but HTC also does make nice incasings for their phones. Samsung also has more services and sharing capabilitys, such as Allshare and Samsung Media Hub.

Yea but Samsung has a bigger screen, more faster Android updates and a big XDA support. Non the less Butterfly's looks make me crave for it too.
Both are a quadcore and 2gb ram beasts but then you got Beats Audio on HTC and then S-Pen and multitasking ability of Note2 comes into force.
Its a very difficult choice, more opinions are expected.

If only I could afford the Note 2. For now my S2 with FK23 will do.

Can GS2 performance be achieved?

I saw this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY7nHi2Lcbg
And it confirmed what I already thought, especially with the benchmarks.
What I'm asking is if through custom roms, overclocking and different apps (maybe opera is better than stock browser) the evo 3d can get near or beat a stock S2 across a number of these tasks.
Referring to the ROMs I mean GSM, but any CDMA input is also appreciated and beneficial to the forum.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using xda premium
If you were to run AOSP on both phones, there is a very good chance you would not notice a difference in performance (real world wise). Overclock a Sense ROM and you'll probably get the same effect as well. But comparing OC'd to stock isn't that fair.
I will 1v1 anyone in any benchmarks and CPU speed... Lulz
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
How old is that video? I had to unroot my EVO to take the new update to the 2.17 base and I must say it flies. I noticed the difference right away. And I'm talking about stock unrooted. The new base on a custom Rom like Meanrom makes all other roms on the old base feel like crap.

True story.
Benchmarks were worth it during the Evo 4G era, but now, all these phones are so powerful that in the real world you won't see differences. IMO

G.nex isn't really considered a powerful phone by any means. Just a elegant phone with an insane display, ICS, and second best development before the International GS2.

Assuming they do announce it, they would release it till June or so. Too bad, because the One X is current and top-gen now. Who knows what will be out in 3-4 months.

So your saying tegra 3 is a better fit for gamers?
My honest opinion we should all just wait for the gs3.
It'll probably be the CDMA variant of the One X with the S4 processor, and one of the first LTE phones. Might even be a "World Phone." You won't have to worry about it being out of date by any other HTC phones since HTC is putting their eggs in the Quality, not Quantity basket. I'd be happy to see another 3D phone, but I'll live with the next phone in line. I don't hardly use the 3D anymore, but every now and again, it's nice to have.

Its not the same phone. The hboot on the j butterfly states it as the DLX_J. On the ADR6450 the code name is just DLX. So the butterfly is just a varient. That's why HTC stated that phone would not be released in the US and that a similar one would, more then likely the ADR6450.

The Razr Maxx HD is coming with a 3300 mah battery. If HTC plans on putting a 2500mah battery mixed with that 5 inch display, expect battery life to be horrid. I hope they up the battery, that device looks very promising and it would be a shame for them to ruin it with something so simple.
Edit: Also just read that it's rumored to have a non-removable battery. The new Snapdragon S4 pro it comes equipped with does sound great tho.

As long as the battery can last me threw my 16hour day its all good with me. My thunderbolt has no problem doing that and neither did my rezound. I'm sure the s4 will only help. 2500 is still huge compared to the 1400 and 1650 we got before. Stop wining.

My Nexus 4 is arriving in the next couple days. I will keep the Amaze around as back up. This is probably the last great HTC device that has replaceable batteries, expandable storage, HSPA+, great camera and a good screen. Nothin HTC has released since has all of the above traits.
I too want to thank Team Nightmare for their awesome works. I will keep flashing the latest CM or AOKP rom that's being released.

Gave up on the htc amaze. The battery life was horrible and also the lack of software updates also made me leave it. On to my galaxy note 2.

I never thought I would say this but the best two phones right now are the Nexus 4 and the Note 2.

I think OneX+ is better than Nexus 4, Note is different device, no competition on the market. I'm still with HTC and Amaze of course, but my patient is dying already. I hate Samsung quality, but I'm affraid I had no choice...

HTC one x+ IS better than the nexus 4 IMO as well...
Those that hate Samsung quality... We are talking about the S3 and note 2... The Galaxy s skyrocket, s2 and all their variants are a whole different story. The quality of the s3 is unbelievable... Especially compared to their old devices. Trust me.. I used to think the same way. I got the one s as my amaze upgrade initially... Dumped it for the s3 and never looked back. Its soooooooo much nicer. And forgive me for thinking it being lightweight as a feature rather than a sign of poor build quality. Everyone puts cases on their phones anyway nowadays.

How do you get by without the SD card?

If you live in a metropolitan area, its reasonable to use Dropbox for pics/vids/files and Google music for music. Then you can use the 16gb for a couple/few backups. Its just an inconvenience.
I'm more shocked that he can get by with a slimmed down amaze and justify it as a worthy upgrade. That was my beef (and the SD card bit ) It was a downgrade in the camera and storage, an upgrade in the aesthetics and battery, and virtually identical in performance

i live in semi-rural area so cloud storage isnt the best option for me since i average 5-7mbps down and 2-4mbps up (would be kinda slow for me)
i'm waiting xperia z to be released and wait for the prices to go down
