[Q] battery life on CM10 amaze - HTC Amaze 4G

Okay, so i just installed CM10 (Dec 5 release) with no problems. Audio working just fine through both speakers. minor issue when connecting to bluetooth and wifi but reflashing fixed that. My issue is with the battery draining EXTREMELY FAST. Has anyone found a resolution to this?
Thanks, Jwallbanger.

first question, what do you mean by extremely fast? unless your phone is dieing in under an hr from full charge i wouldn't say its "extremely fast".. secondly there is a "discussion thread" located in the general section of the forums to talk about and find solutions to problems related to CM 10 found here, also have you checked your battery stats to see what is eating your battery away? weather its screen on time, cell standby, wifi or data... or an app.. there are several issues related to battery drain.. like if you have wifi on but not connected to a wifi location.. or having data on but in an area with no signal.. more information is needed but i would prob suggest to do a full charge to 100% wipe battery stats from recovery and then do a test from 100% to see how long your phone lasts with full usage and in full standby mode... then compare and see what is eating your battery life away...if not refer to the thread i liked earlier up in this post

Yes I mean dying in under an hr, dying while plugged in charging and all i'm doing is text messaging. And I've checked the stats, nothing different than when i was running speed rom. But thanx 4 the link to the discussion thread. maybe I'll find something there.

My suspicion is that Google now prevents the phone from sleeping normally hence affecting battery life in standby mode. However if its dying in under an hour that is quite drastic and I would suspect there might either be a rogue app running in the background (do you have the eBay app installed? I found that also contributed to awake times in cm10). Second question is how long did your battery last in speed rom? Were you getting at least 2 hours of screen on time? If you got less than 1 hour and 30 minutes of "screen on" time in speed rom with data not constantly on I would suspect your battery is failing as well. Good luck

Wifi Battery Drain

Has anyone else noticed that since we can see battery stats now with the .21 update wifi is eating most of the battery even more than the display.

Yea, battery is draining quicker compared to last Firmware. You can turn off WIFI during idle stage.. however, yea.. it's annoying.
yeah, i noticed this too. i even have wifi to shut off when sleeping and its still consuming 55% of the battery.
Maybe they boosted up the wifi signal strength a lot to compensate for the infamous poor wifi signal with battery drainage as a consequence.

Same here. My wifi has used 79% of my battery since last charge.

The other thread was about the update generally:

Are you guys sure the stats are 100% accurate? I dont think that wifi actually sucks more juice than the display. Its the same on my Prime but its possible that the stats just arent that accurate. I have wifi set to disable when in sleep mode so i really dont think it makes sense that it takes up more than the display even in that setting.
Could be wrong though^^ My batterylife so far isnt really different than before the update - at least it doesnt feel different.
my battery life is still the same, which is great. wifi being a battery drainer is nothing new. top 2 battery drainers isbthe display(how high you have it) and wifi. I have my wifi on 24/7. never cut it off and I still get great battery life. I tried that cutting wifi off during sleep setting but I hate it. it always takes the wifi connection a little will to come back connected once display OS activated again. so I just leave it on. another thing to check also is to cut your background sync times down. you don't need email be checked and sync every 5 mins. cut sync off on anything you know you don't use much. saw goes for app notifications also. I got tired of my Facebook going off all the time, so I cut it off. it'll just update when I open the app up. or doing a manual refresh.
WiFi drain seems to be a lot higher since the update.
I got slightly over 5 hours of surfing and messing around undocked last night. WiFi used over 65% of the CPU.
Sure I was getting closer to 8 hours before.
Running in balanced mode

I have noticed a huge difference. Last week my prime would only lose 2% battery over night. I updated and haven't changed any settings. Now it drops roughly 40% over night... I'm not happy to say the least. I'll try turning wifi off tonight and compare the 2 settings.
(By the way, I'm rooted and stock everything else)
Glad I am not the only one. I just got my TP a week ago and updated to .21 and sure notice that battery life has been awful. Using it for web browsing, loses 10% in about 40 minutes. And turned off seems to drain the battery as well, more than before the update.

I do not have drain over night.
I charged it full, and after 9 hours in stand by, battery was 99%
BUT the BlueTooth draines the battery when the Prime is in use.
The settings suggest to turn it off, if you do not need it.
21WW seems fine for me about the battery usage otherwise.
Do not expect the usage they were talking about in the specs.. it's not true!

WiFi analyzer shows no difference in signal strenght, and my Prime has been RMAed at ASUS and had changed parts (WIFI/BT issue), it did not help either.
Hey everyone,
I tried searching on here but couldn't find anything similar. I thought I'd post here as its battery related.
For a start, my Prime is completely stock with the .21 firmware. Earlier today I noticed my Prime battery monitor hadn't gone lower than 93% for AGES! When I went into Settings - Battery, it said 93% Unknown. I obviously guessed it was a lot lower than that as I had used it a fair bit most of the day. I was using it about 2 hours ago and it suddenly switched off. I guessed it had run flat so I put it on charge. I've just tried to switch it on and nothing!!! It's been charging for a good 2 hours or so.
Any ideas??? I've had it less than 2 weeks!!! :-(
Thanks in advance.

Since last update I get more than 20% / hour of battery drain doing web browsing at 50% screen brightness ... it was way better from what I remember when I was on .11 and .15 ...

I am running .21 in power save mode. I have noticed the following. Using OS Monitor I found that "System" process was using 65%+ CPU resource all the time. So I turned off/stopped as many things that I could no effect..accept..un-mounting my SD card.
Once I un-mounted my SD card the "system" process time dropped to less than 10%.
Since then my battery has only dropped 7 points in 14 hours..based on my "Battery indicator" app.
So why would my SD card eat up battery life by consuming CPU time???

Battery drain issue.

Hi guys,
Is anyone having battery drain issues with their new sgs3's?
With my one it wouldn't last 12 hours without dying. Also if its at 100% it'll drop to 70% overnight while i sleep (6-7 hours) and thats with power saver on, sync off and running juicedefender.
Today I factory reset the phone and only installed flash, whatsapp and dolphin browser. Have wifi on, sync, data, gps and bluetooth off. Havent got pictures of battery stats yet since I only reset it half an hour ago.
So is anyone else experiencing battery drain? if so have you fixed it? and how?
Are there any apps I should be aware of that drain the battery?
I would remove juice defender.
Uninstall lightflow app if you are using it.
Use betterbstterystats to identify any wakelocks. The xda thread of the same name will be able to help with solutions.
Other than that follow general tips on increasing battery life that are found all over xda.
This device is easily capable of much better battery life than you are getting.
Good luck.

No issues at all so far, in my case. In fact this is the first Android phone I've owned that has no battery-related issues
Based on my previous experience what you can try doing is (a) install CPU Spy to see if your phone is entering 'deep sleep' appropriately (b) install BetterBatteryStats to identify offending applications.
Even the 'Battery' section in settings is useful -- just check if any apps are keeping the phone awake for longer than you've actually used them ('Stay Awake' number).
ok well ive installed bad ass battery monitor since its free. Also since I did factory restore i charged it to full and in 1 hour 44 mins it used 7% on idle. Going to charge it to full again and use it normally to see how it is.
Only apps ive installed is XDA, badd ass battery, dolphin browser and whatsapp.

Not too happy with my battery either. Fully charged over night and its down to 89% 1hr 30 later. Is that normal? However, you did mention lightflow earlier though which I have installed - Is that a massive battery drain? My battery stats seem to show display as being the big culprit but I have brightness set to it lowest setting.
Also, can't seem to find battery monitor pro on play?

I'm on Omega V4.0 and with wifi always on, fully charged 3 hours back and when i woke up it's 95% remaining. So about 1.66% loss per hour in sleep mode. With regular usage and installing and testing different roms and backing up etc them i easily get about 8~10 hours. Phone's made in Korea and battery mfg date is 2012.5.6.

[Q] High cell standby drain battery with wi-fi

Hey,
I just got my new Samsung GT-I9300 international version.
I have the XXALF2 Build, I didn't install much apps at all (Temple Run and app built by me).
I drained the battery until the end - then charged it to 100%.
I synced only my google account, and I have weird batter drain when wi-fi is on and phone in sleep.
Every something around 10 minutes the battery drops in 1%, and it's very weird because on my Captivate, if I let my phone stay with wi-fi it was about 2% every hour which is pretty normal.
When I look at battery stats I see Cell Standby with something like 50% and I really don't know why.
I got my new micro sim today and yesterday the phone was without sim and with wifi and still drained battery and showed high cell standby.
Should I make some kind of calibration on my battery? Is someone else having this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Elad
This is well documented already with plenty of threads as well as a fix. A search will bring you lots of results.
It's actually a reporting error and not really draining your battery. It's been fixed on the newer firmwares.
You'll need to dig further to find out what is actually draining your battery. Given it's still new it'll probably settle in a few days.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yes, I found the fix of the xml file in the framework. I'm really sorry for not searching before, my bad.
But still, is there something that drain the battery because 1% every 10 minutes is not good at all. Now I see Android System right after screen.
I didn't installed anything yet, so I'm afraid to think what will happen in the future when more apps will be added.
Do you have some recommendation of first steps I should do with the new battery?
Thanks
To see if it's wifi related, at night switch off wifi and test. Maybe even switch off data to see what happens. But as I said, it's still probably a bit early to really tell. My phone took a while to settle. Or maybe it was the custom kernal I installed (siyah).
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
yerr. just give it a few days. im sure theres other stuff on the interent that can help too
Ok I flashed XXBLG8 and the problem gone! Battery is really great, the phone was on sleep, with wifi off and mobile data on, and only 1% was down after a hour!! I guess the previous build was buggy. Thanks everybody
Ok - I think that the problem is with wi-fi.
With wi-fi the battery is drained very quick on sleep and with mobile data the battery holding fine.
Mobile data suppose to drain the battery more quickly than wi-fi so it must be a bug with wifi.
Really weird and annoying :/

[Q] Atrix battery or hardware issue?

Hi everyone!
My Atrix battery won't charge past 69%, it constantly overheats (recently it even shut down because of it) while in use or charging (in the lower area of the phone) and the battery drains really fast. I can't get 12 hours of battery life. I am running CM7 (obviously), and before CM7 i had the stock 2.3.6 and Avatar ROM, which was based on 4.1.2, and all of those problems persisted on all ROMs.
I never leave WiFi, Bluetooth, 3g, 2g or GPS on. As far as I can tell, there is no application that's using up my CPU.
Right now, I've installed Usage Timelines to make sure that nothing uses my CPU, and at first it was normal, staying around 10%, and then all of a sudden it jumped to 100%, and the only two things that were using it were android system (at around 50%) and status bar (at around 30%). Basically, the whole phone acts abnormal and I don't know what to do anymore. I've installed multiple CPU monitoring apps, and every one showed different results. A few of them showed very anomalous readings, showing that my CPU rapidly changes speed, while a few of them showed perfectly normal readings.
I bought the phone on eBay so no warranty. I've had the issues since I bought the phone, but I thought they're just battery issues and since I was already planning on buying a new one, I didn't ask for a return. Now I'm wondering, is it really the battery or could it be hardware?

Check with CPU spy after running for a day, and make sure its properly entering "Deep Sleep" after inactivity. If its not, that could be the culprit. I seem to remember there being a BT Deep Sleep fix that fixed this issue.
I some times have the same problem with the overheating. I just solved it changing the kernel or the rom. I believe there must be something incompatible between our hardware and the software/kernel in our devices
Okay feltZ, I'll try that.
I'll also try changing my kernel, but I don't think that is the issue, because I believe both Avatar ROM and CM7 come with their own kernels, and as I had the issue on both of those, as well as on the stock ROM, I don't think that's it.

Battery lasts very short!

I have had my Galaxy S2 for almost 2 years now and I'm still going with the stock battery and it have worked great but some time around the start of Novmber I rooted and installed CM 10.1 and since then it feels like my battery life have become worse.
I now run CM 11, but it's still the same with battery life or even worse.
My phone never last a full day with normal usage. Today it went from 100% to 9% in less than 5 hours with only ~37 minutes of screen on time.
Todays usage: http://i.imgur.com/Adl7YQv.png http://i.imgur.com/G80vf2e.png http://i.imgur.com/YtcqKh7.png
Also, when listening to music on Spotify (offiline playlists) it draws battery like hell, it lasts maybe 3-4 maximum of listening. And when playing games with the charger connected it drains battery faster than it charges the battery.
What could be the problem here? Would really like to fix this problem but I do not want to go back to the stock Samsung software. Please ask questions if you have to (if you need some more information or such) and I'll reply as fast as possible.

Install BetterBatteryStats (google for download link on xda) and look what's draining your phone.
Your signal is very bad, that drains battery too.

So I installed BetterBatteryStats but as I restarted my phone the stats were reset and I can only view the stats for the current session, I will monitor it again sooner and remember to not restart the phone. However, when I restarted my phone it went from about 50% to 15% instantly, how did that happen? It has happened once before while running CM 10.1 also. Could it be that the phone just showed 50% but it really was 15%?
Picture of the battery drop is in the first post as I can't post links in replies (new user under 10 posts).
Also, how would be the best way to share my BetterBatteyStats? The included share feature just left me with an .txt that's a bit hard to read.
From the screenshots i can see your phone is always in search of signal.
Change the modem or pit it on gsm network for the time being
Further, the battery drop of restart is due to chip not behaving. Or battery is dying.
Change the battery is what i advise

It's rather the other way around. I had these drops tens of times. Most of the times, if I leave my phone in deep sleep, it will go up again. So in fact the 15% is 50%(minus a percentage for rebooting).
Look what other people are posting in that thread and read the op before posting. But I think a txt file is good enough.
First try to find an explanation for this battery drain, before buying a new one.

I'm not really sure about how I "Change the modem or pit it on gsm network for the time being", if you could explain that it would be sweet.
I have only used my phone very little today as I have been distracted with other things and I slept all day so battery have been ok. I will return with results another time when I have been using my phone as I usually do.

Go to settings>more settings> mobile networks > change it to gsm
Try this first. If this resolves good otherwise find a suotable modem compatible with your area (search xda) and flash the modem zip file via recovery

I cannot find the GSM option there, got nothing from googling either.
Included a picture of what it looks like.

Prefer network type, use 2G.
Mostly it has better connection, but not good for internet

I have monitored my phone with BetterBatteryStats for a few days now and I have posted in their thread and some people there helped me to reduce battery use from 6.3%/h to 2.0%/h in idle (on 3g with fast dormancy disabled). I uninstalled some apps and disabled sync on some other.
I have a question about Spotify also, when I play music from Spotify it seems like it uses to much battery. I use watchdog and I get alerts sometimes that it uses 40%+ cpu, that doesn't seem right does it? And when I open CPU-Z it shows that cpu is at least 20%+ in use all the time with no other program running, that doesn't seem right either. Anyone have any ideas about this?
After uninstalling Google now my battery lasts a bit longer...

First of all, DON'T buy stuff before you try going to stock rom, you can get back anytime from your nandroid backup. Battery problems are very hard to track, someone already suggested betterbatterystats, try finding it yourself with that, and if you fail you can;
1- Wipe everything and run the phone with only betterbattery stats installed and see the problem,
2- Go to stock rom and see if your problem persists without any apps installed.
Edit: If your cpu is misbehaving (even in stock), there is nothing you can do since its a hardware problem, you need to go to service centre.
