I'd like to have a couple of websites easily accessible from my main screen. Do you make bookmarks first?

hello, i've got the htc hd2. overall i'm satisfied. but i've seen at a friends iphone that instead of having all the quick links out in the open, he has icons of their libraries such as: programs, games, extra, news and more. once he presses a library it opens another window bellow it and he can select the prog he wants to lunch. i beleive if this is somehow available in the hd2, maybe through cookies editor or something like that, it would be great - time saving, organized, easy to use...
does anyone know of this feature in the iphone? is it a 3rd party app or some setting? is it possible to be activated or installed on the hd2?
thanks guys.
guy.

u can create subfolder in your /windows/startup folder and move there your start menu items
but i can't create those subfolders as quick links. it's as i would go and start file expolrer and look for the app i want, only in subfolders. i would like to have subfolders as quicklins...

yes u can, if u have a powerful file manager like resco explorer (not free) or any other free one around
check here and here, not perfect eye-candy, but works
the "latest" iOS feature of grouping in folders is a laughable attempt by apple to copy what windows mobile has had for AGES!
the iphone does not have a home screen. instead, it just throws all your program shortcuts on the home screen. the equivalent of this is the windows mobile "start" menu. one tap and you get the start menu to show off to your iphone pals.
the windows mobile "start" menu is more powerful because it offers n-level nesting and unlimited number of links within a "group" (lets call them folders because thats the correct windows mobile term!). finally, it offers mixing links and folders within a folder! not sure the iphone can do that.
as stated above, use a powerful file manager to create folders under your start menu, give them icons, and organize existing links under these new folders. add more than 12 links AND folders to a folder and throw that in your iphone pal's face!
ok. i like what you're saying... however, i am using the cookies home tab editor (i think that's the name) and i've removed everything (clock, tasks, calender...) from the home screen so i can have a picture of my beautiful wife and 4 icons of quick links at the bottom (not including the sliding bar of the windows mobile). so as a resault of this if i had folders on the main home screen i'd needed 4, the most important and that's it. and i have to tell you, i hardly use the START button. so, i'm still looking for something to help me place folders and not link to programs on my hd2's home screen.

there is a way: You have to put a .lnk in that folder and then it will show up on quicklinks for cht.
You can pm watcher64. He made one for me for a movies folder
I am new owner of the Unlocked Streak. It came with the 2.2 and I am kinda loving it. Have already applied the performance pack and the quadrant scores have kind of doubled from stock ~800 to ~1450 with the performance pack.
Overall I am really loving this device.
Just need a little help in few lousy areas (have already tried searching the forum/web)
1) How do you edit stage UI widgets ? I need to bookmark my webpages on the Web widget but I dont see any option to add my own pages.
2) There seems to be some kind of issue with my Contact widget as well. I have like 150 contacts on my SIM card and I tried importing them to my phone. I could do that but when I get into the Contacts Widget/application, I am just not seeing anything there. Instead it tells me to do the same thing that I just did, that is to import contacts.
I used some other contacts application from the appstore and the other app can see those 150 contacts but again I am unsure if that app is seeing the SIM contacts or not.
3) On the same lines, can I bookmark my favorite music albums in the Music Widget ? Currently everything seems to be random in that widget.
I know I might look like a noob but for a while I am with this new possession of mine.
Looking forward for the help from you guys.

The widget reflects the favorites that you have saved in the browser. Edit and/or save favorites in the browser and they are reflected in the widget.

The contact widget displays the favorites you have set in your contacts list. When in the contacts app hit the menu key and select display options. My contacts all are from my Google account, you may have to select something there to show contacts that are only on the phone. Once you can see your contacts in the contact app tap one to display details and then tap the start in the upper right corner to add it to your favorites (and to the widget).

I don't see any way to create shortcuts on or customize the music widget. You can create shortcuts to a playlist. Hold you finger on an empty area of the screen until the menu pops up.Select Shortcuts and then scroll down to Music Playlist. Tap on that and you will get a list of your playlists to choose from. The shortcut created will open the music player with that playlist. You can put the shortcuts in a folder to keep from hitting them when you don't intend to.
Edit: I also see that the widget displays a quick link to all of your playlists.
Thanks brother. Finally i was able to make the desired changes.

Glad you sorted it out.
FYI - there's a thanks button on posts. Click it when you get a helpful answer.
Oops. Will take care of that next time. Thanks again.

The thanks button helps make the forum better.
It keeps a bunch of thank you posts from showing up in long threads. Sometimes the thanks post comes so far after the post it thanked you have no clue who the person is thanking.
A post with a LOT of thanks shows that it was useful and therefore the content might be given more weight.
A user with a lot of thanks show that the content they post is valued by others.
Users who use the thanks button contribute to the forum by making it known which posts are useful, which users are helpful and keeping threads shorter.
It's a very good system. And you're welcome - enjoy the Streak.

The above post may be answering my question in the negative, but to be certain, I thought that I would ask.
Is it possible to create a folder that contains the shortcuts to multiple websites and their names?
I frequent 15-20 websites that are hobby related. I would love to create a folder with the hobby name that houses these website shortcuts. Perhaps that ability is already available or a work-around will allow me to to that very thing, but if there is, it's alluding me.

Hi, try this:
1. Long press on the homescreen - Advanced - Shortcuts - Bookmark (make sure that you've added these websites as bookmarks, either on your phone or PC, it will be linked to Chrome).
2. Select a bookmark, it will now be added on your homescreen.
3. Repeat the process, and now you can drag bookmarks on top of each other to create a folder.
Hope this helps

Too Easy (Worked as Instructed)!
Thanks,

I just installed and purchased Nova Launcher today. I'm trying to figure out how to add shortcuts to Word and Excel files that are stored in Dropbox to my home screen.
On the default launcher of my OS (LineageOS 15.1), I performed the following steps to get the shortcut to my home screen:
*Go into Dropbox and select the file to open.
*From within Dropbox, click to fully open the file in Word or Excel.
*From the Recent screen in Word or Excel, press the 3 dots to open a sub-menu, and then select "Add to Home screen."
By performing the above steps, this would put a link on my home screen that would always open the most recent version of this file, even if it was most recently updated on another device.
Anyway, when I perform step 4 from within Nova Launcher, Word or Excel says "item added," but when I go to the home screen, the icon is not there.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Mike

Apologies. I thought I was posting in a forum dedicated to Nova Launcher. Not sure how that happened. Thanks for the URL.
I strongly dislike when apps like to split up settings menu for me trying to dumb it down for the average user. Instead, I want back the one-page settings menu instead of sorting it into multiple pages.
Is there a native way to do it, or an app that emulates every feature of settings on one page? Or, how can I hack this to show a one-page settings menu?

Thank you, but this does not put them all on one page, it puts the categories on one page with many submenus, unlike previous phones I've used. It does get rid of the tabs though so it's an improvement

That's the max that can be done with Lg's UI
You must have been running some custom ROM or UI or something because Android by default - any version - has never had a single long column for Settings that provides access to every possible option. There's always been a category list, then submenus in each category, and so on.

Maybe I'm used to Touchwiz which has fewer subcategories and a much longer settings page (Galaxy S5, Galaxy S7, Note 9).
Just looked at my S5 and it's sorted out by categories all on one page:
WIRELESS & NETWORKS
...
DEVICE
...
PERSONAL
...
MOTION
...
ACCOUNT
...
SYSTEM
...

Where I wrote "...." that is a list of subitems (instead of typing every menu item out on this post) all on the same page of the home page of the settings screen. This is on S5 with Kitkat, but note 9 and S7 are similar.
Would like to get that same menu back on this phone.
