[ROOT] VZW Note 2 Root Package - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I know what you're thinking "We already have root, why do we want and/or need this?". Well, if you followed the root thread, you would have seen that the package posted was built off of two images. There was the early firmware posting that it was first made from, then a system pull in a rar archive that was used to put the root package on the latest firmware. In the processes, there were issues with permissions and other items missing. The people involved did a great job with what they had, but I don't like hacked up solutions to problems.
So, to fix that, I had a stock system.img for the release firmware. This allowed me to build a fully stock root package with no missing files or incorrect permissions. While it took some time to get this tested and verified working without having the device, I was able to get it. Thanks goes to Adrynalyne, Mibix, and AstainHellBring (and anyone else) from IRC for testing several packages (Freenode, #galaxy-note-2). This is only the start of things to come, and I plan on slowly working on a ROM based on this then. I also made a deodexed version of the same package. Download and flash that if you wish, but it was more to verify that nothing broke in the deodexing process and to get a working base for a custom ROM.

INSTRUCTIONS
Download one of the above packages for flashing.
Extract the file (7zip works to extract).
Open Odin (download that elsewhere), and put the extracted tar.md5 in the PDA spot
(Re)Boot your phone into download mode and plug it in to your computer
With it recognized in Odin, press start
Once the phone boots up, all should be well. If you notice issues, boot into recovery and wipe data and this should fix the problems.
If you still have issues after wiping the /data and performing a factory reset, please post here.
NOTE: I am not responsible for any ill effects caused to you, your loved ones, you phone, or anything else as a result of flashing this. Do so at your own risk as I won't be held responsible.

Saving this one too, just in case.

I'm nuts about imnuts! Its great to have you here! Can't wait for one of your ROMs.

So just for clarification, this is a newer version of system than what the other root package was?
I will probably flash the deoxed version anyone, but just checking.

Same "version" as the last one created by Mr Robinson, just that it was built off of a system.img of the shipping firmware that preserved all permissions on the files. Functionally, this should be basically the same as what was done earlier, just put together in a less hacked up manner.

What would be the advantage of deodexed version?

I do believe that's really for doing themes etc. (Makes it easier, that is)

Thank you. I ran your droid charge roms. Do u plan on get a note2?

Oh I wasn't sure if it litened it up or sped it up in any way. Would u see any reason to flash this over or in place of the first one I have now? All seems to be working fine.

What happens to all the mods that we have used on our phone, e.g. replacing files. I have changed my status bar and changed it so I can use MW with all apps.
Is this like the other one where are apps are not deleted?
Could yuo explain the advantages of the deoxed version vs. this one?

I will d/l both to keep on hand and thank you imnuts for putting this together. Does this address the lag with the screen turning on. I did of course wipe cache, etc, etc. when I rooted the first time. Remember kids, always wipe when you're done

Its a true latest rooted system image. You will have to redo all your mods. If your happy with what you have now, I wouldn't worry about it.

If you already have root and/or have done other changes to /system, then there isn't a need to flash this. It is meant more for people that haven't yet rooted. If you have only done root, this shouldn't change anything for you. If you have rooted and made other changes (deleting apps/etc.), then it will undo those changes, and possibly force you to factory reset. Nothing has been deleted from either package, just root and busybox being added.
Deodexed v. stock is mainly for ease of modification. After the first boot, there is no speed difference in the two, though you may save a little bit of storage on the stock version. Functionally, they are identical, just that if one was looking to theme or make other changes, it is easier to do on the Deodexed version. I plan on starting a ROM then, maybe with the help of a few people, and this will start with the deodexed version and will get its own thread if it comes.
Just to answer any future questions, if you're already rooted, you don't need this. It was created as a better starting point for anyone that has not yet rooted their phone.

Thanks for clearing that up imnuts. So seriously though, no performance differences between the two? I find that weird if the permissions are all messed up in the original. I'm planning to root my sister's phone tonight, and it wouldn't be hard for me to do mine again tonight either if there is some reason for it, from the sounds of it, there isn't
Looking forward to your future stuff, +1 anyways.

I may have to try both and see which is is best for future efforts.

Just curious how much money do you already have for the Note 2? I don't know much about you, but I already donated to Adam & Beans, I don't see why we can't help you get the phone as well. I'm willing to donate if we can get a thread together. It only helps the community..

I don't know if there are permissions issues with what was out, but given how it was made, it could be possible that one or two of the items with special permissions was missed, and without hitting a specific usage scenario, you'd never know. I think that given what MrRobinson was working with, he did a great job :good: I haven't actually compared what I have with what was previously out other than to verify that all files were present, I wasn't looking at permissions.
As for what's best for future efforts, it's going to be easier to theme and mod the deodexed version.
I do plan on building a ROM then starting next week, but progress will be slow (this alone took a week to get everything sorted properly).

It's just a system dump from the Motorola Electrify. It's more or less the same as our stock system dump.

superuser in stock dump?
@shabbypenguin,
I was reading through your AIO root thread and it occurred to me that I had rooted prior to extracting the system dump that is posted in op as "Stock". Therefore, there is a version of superuser present in /app that I assume may not have been there as delivered. Of course, I may be making an incorrect assumption.
Is it appropriate then to call this stock, or is it a given that rooting would have been necessary to perform the dump in the first place?
I also don't know if this would affect your deodexed version?
Just wondering if this fact needs to be mentioned somewhere, unless I just did.

First off, thanks for all your efforts to provide us with this...
Second, root is a requirement for the dump and so even with the Superuser app, what you supplied is most definitely stock.
Unless of course you deleted anything in /system/ prior to the dump...

This is simply a stock from from the Photon's "sister," the Electrify. No one has even identified if there are any benefits/improvements hidden inside this ROM, much less how compatible it is with the Photon.
Just because something IS flashable doesn't mean you SHOULD flash it. OP was very clear - this is for devs only, not public consumption. If you don't know enough, then you're better off exercising some patience and waiting for further announcements.
actually im gunna guess that the man has an electrify and my cwm script is busted
I would venture to guess that you guys will have the same issue we do with the photon roms. As other members on my team verified that root, recovery, kernel and unlock work from the photon. The kernel needed wifi fixed which was pretty simple. In which I pm'd shabby about earlier. The roms also work but some things need fixed to get it working.
I don't know all the details besides what weasel told myself. But mms, 3g I believe works but going back to stock it wouldn't, eri says sprint, blur e-mail fc's and activation for sprint kept popping up to where you have to skip it. Weasel has fixed most of the stuff in the homebase port. I believe e-mail still fc's and mms is still broke.
But here is the first deodex rom weasel and myself did if you want to add it to the first post. http://2fastroms.com/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=265
Then here is the kernel shabby did with wifi fixed ready to install. Only rc-1 since wifi was broke in rc-2. If the electrify people want to install it just grab it from shabby's thread. There was reports of 3000's+ in bench's. Not sure of rom it was on but I would venture to guess our stock rom. http://2fastroms.com/viewtopic.php?f=118&t=334
Then here is the port for homebase weasel is playing with http://2fastroms.com/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=268 if you guys wanted to look at it.
i would gather a lot of frameworks issues, as with services.jar would happen between the phones.
edit: you keep saying you fixed wifi. but the only way to fix it, is by rebuilding the modules using my config file.. which only i have...
unless im missing some other way to replace it?

First time installing a custom ROM, I need some hand holding

Hey folks.
The S4 is my first smartphone. Ever. I rooted it a few weeks ago and have been playing with different tools and utilities. I love the extra control it gives me.
Been using Smartlauncher Pro as my launcher as well, but it doesn't give me the customization I want. I dig the UI though, it's minimalist just the way I like.
I've been keeping my eye out for ROM's I can try out, and I think I want to try Cynogen for the S4. However, I am terrified of destroying my investment. I've read horror stories of flashes gone wrong... I don't want to permanently brick my device.
Is there anyone here who can hold my hand while I install my ROM? I seriously have no idea what I'm doing, instructions or no.
...I sound so pathetic right now.
Thanks folks.

Do you have a custom recovery installed like TWRP or CWM? If you do all you need to do is download the rom (I put them on ext sd)....and gapps if your flashing cyanogen, boot into recovery, make a backup (I put this on my ext sd card too), wipe, flash rom, flash gapps and reboot.

Hi!
The first thing you need to find out is what build number you have. This will tell you if you are able to root and install recovery in order to put a new rom on the phone. Do NOT update your phone by the over the air update that is currently available! To find your build number go to settings: the more tab: about phone, then scroll down. If you have JDQ39.I545VRUAME7 then you are in the same boat as many of us and accidently did the upgrade which at this moment has no way to root. If you haven't done the upgrade than you need to find one of the many threads on here that will walk you through the process.
Hope this helps some, there are others on here that can give you a much more detailed walkthrough of how to root if you are on the correct older build.
The best advice I can give is to read the entire original post (OP) for the ROM you like, and as much of the thread as you can. 9 times out of 10 when someone has a problem with the ROM it's been discussed, and is often listed in the OP. Usually there are step by step instructions on installing the ROM. I believe there's a general ROM flashing guide in this forum somewhere as well.
Good luck and have fun :good:

That's good! You haven't been updated which means you can still flash ROMs. Are you familiar with both types of ROMs, TouchWiz and AOSP? CyanogenMod is an AOSP ROM, which will be completely different from what you're running right now, TouchWiz. You're rooted, but have you installed a custom recovery? You need one to flash ROM's, either TWRP or CWM. You can also make a nandroid backup in recovery, and if anything goes wrong, you can go back to exactly how you are now. Definitely read the OP of the ROM thread multiple times and follow the flashing instructions correctly.

If anything goes wrong with the flash in the next step, go to restore and you'll be back to how you are now.
Did you download the ROM to your phone along with Gapps? For AOSP Roms you need a separate gapps package, which is Google apps.

Worst case scenario, you have to use Odin to get back to stock. I used to keep a nandroid on my PC for just in case scenarios as well. One time on my GNex I flashed something really bad and had to adb pull everything off my phone, wipe the whole thing, and start over.

Thread cleaned of useless comments.
Thread is also closed - as XDA, even though full of helpful and nice people, is not a direct support site.
Users are expected to do some reading before they post and blatantly ask for hand holding. And, as you have seen, other users have a tendency to not be so nice and make trolling comments because of that.
This is a development site and is about development - so, please, study up first, then post questions based from what you have learned.

Need some help quick for a stock rooted Verizon (t6vzw) ROM

So I went ahead and put together a few different builds based on the stock 1.11.605.4 firmware and the styles they will come in are as follows:
Stock - Odexed no root (Must flash Superuser package to re-obtain root
Stock -Odexed root busybox
Stock - Odexed root busybox debloated
Stock - Deodexed root busybox
Stock - Deodexed root busybox debloated
These are basically for those that are looking for a specific something and hopefully these being one of those things, and also as a cushion in case you attempted something and you need that stock build to fall back on..
The problem I'm having is basically with the updater script for some odd reason and can not figure out why.. I went ahead and ran "cat /proc/emmc" to make sure the mount points are straight for system and data and I just can't figure out what the problem is whenever I try and flash something.. I know for sure the rest of the build is on point.... The error I'm getting is "Status 7" which is updater-script update binary and mount point related.... I just don't get it... Maybe someone with a little more knowledge in the edify script field can help me figure this out... Unless it has something to do with the script missing something it's suppose to be setting perms on or what have you but I think that would maybe be a "Status 6" error.............. Who knows.........
So yeah anyone willing to help me out so we can at least get some Verizon HTC One Max love here and hopefully and by all means please do so use these builds as bases for your own custom themed out work for the Vzw t6 crew!!! Hit me up!!!!!
Murda out......
Jcase is encouraging me to hand write my own updater-script as he says he hand writes his own all the time.... I said lololol haha.... I tried and failed! I'll upload the build and all mount point info and let someone take a crack it if you want... I even attempted out of curiosity to borrow the Sprint and International updater script with that Insertcoin based updater and that didn't work either.... Like I said heeeeelllllpppppppppp lol
While I was working with beaups he figured out that htc did not include most of the common commands used for scripting. There was no unzip, untar, etc. Maybe that is the issue?
I just got home from work now and I gotta run my kid to wrestling which is 45 minutes.. I'll be home by 7pm NY time and I'll be working on it then!

Just an update to anyone who cares, I got the updater-script done and it no longer kicks back any errors but now I'm having update binary issues which is most likely because I stop the Sprint One Max update binary... So I'm working on fixing that issue right now. As soon as I get this to flash and boot up and I know that calls data wifi and all that work I will begin uploading all the builds I had mentioned in the OP for the Verizon HTC One Max! Soooooo Stay tuned Vzw crew!

You are the Pioneer in this area. Thanks so much for your hard work, keep up the good work man. I’d be more than happy to donate some $$ to your Dev work. 

Deodexed LGH830 10D

Since I haven't seen any other threads on this topic, I figured I'd go ahead and get the ball rolling for anybody interesting in building a custom ROM. As the title suggests, this is a completely deodexed system image for the latest firmware update we recently received.
Just to clarify, this is a (mostly) stock base, and is intended to serve more as a foundation/starting point for anyone looking to build their own ROM.
I took the liberty to update all applications to their newest/current version and preinstalled busybox, which should save everyone a considerable amount of time and data. I also removed about a dozen or so apps that don't serve any beneficial purpose to the phone, but I will still include them in the download link for anybody that wants them for whatever reason.
You will obviously need to be rooted in order to flash this through recovery, so unfortunately if you are one of the unlucky souls that lost it with the update, you'll have to wait for a custom tot to surface before you can flash this.
I've been running this image for the last couple weeks or so and haven't encountered a single issue, but you should still make a backup of your current setup prior to flashing just to play it safe.
Nothing special needs to be done when flashing it, just the standard factory reset along with SuperSU and you should be good to go. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and hopefully you like it!

hope this gets the ball rollin on ROMs. thanks so much! I have been having a few issues w/ the fluence patch..but not that many. but i know a custom made app for our phone would be way better. to get rid of all t-mo bloat.

I'm pretty sure it isn't flashable (correct me if I'm wrong) once it is flashable, I'll probably throw something together (TeamSPR ROM)

I may be wrong but this one sounds like an image. Am I correct ? There are stock folder based roms available that can be used as a base.

Where!?!
Does this Rom offers the new radios and other new stuff from 10D and would I be able to revert back to 10a without any issue like on the other methods?

Yes, for simplicitys sake I chose to use an image in the zip instead. Not knowing if anybody would even be interested in this, it seemed like the logical route to take. Though you might have found other ROMS that are directory based for our phone, I doubt you've found another that's already predeodexed for you. Its also extremely simple to extract this image into the filesystem that you're looking for, but not the other way around.

Sounds good, If you want, we can still work on a ROM (send me a PM)
I'll download the ROM, debloat it, add SuperSU to the meta-inf and stuff then you can do those tweaks you were telling me about.

Sounds good, I'll modify and flash in a few and send you what I have that way you can modify it as well.
Flashed this yesterday and have had no issues since. Pretty solid. Thanks!
Got a question. So I'm rooted and on 10a. I can flash this without any problems? Can I use the twrp app or should I boot into recovery? Thanks.

Stock Rooted Nexus 6P ROM update zips to upgrade without losing root...

For the simple of heart who don't need the diversity of a custom ROM, but moreso hate the pain of re-rooting after OTA installation. Not intended to host this thread so much as I am here to inspire it...
I updated with flash fire. It worked perfectly. I am on stock rooted. went from 7.0 to 7.1.1.

1. Download the factory image from here.
https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aos...y-ef607244.zip
2. Select the firmware option on FlashFire.
3. Select ONLY system, vendor and boot images. ***DO NOT SELECT BOOTLOADER OR RADIO***
4. Select Flash.
5. Wait for some time.
6. Might bootloop a couple of times. Do not panic.
7. ENJOY!!!

Seriously! Not to be rude, but if flashing a zip is that painful for you, perhaps you're in the wrong place.
Sincere apologies...

Please forgive me sir. I love custom ROM's, I'm just in a phase right now and I figured that what helps me may help someone else. I don't understand how I offended you though sir. Is it because this thread is a waste of space or that it has no business on XDA? I need clarification in order to understand my error. My only clue is that you said flashing a zip, which leaves me feeling misunderstood... I have been flashing zips since the original HTC Desire which was on 2.1 donut before it's final OTA of eclair. Rooted, S-Off'd, flashed all kinds of mods and ROMS, even had a buggy ICS running on it for a while.
HTC Amaze, how hard was it to S-Off that? The wire trick? Had xPosed, custom boot animation, etc. Then there was Alcatel, had 2 that I rooted, the venture and the evolve2, same as above custom everything.
I'm on my Nexus 6P now, as long as we're getting updates OTA I want to remain stock for a change, at least till the updates stop coming. Maybe it's cuz I said there is pain in re-rooting... it's not just the process of re-rooting, it's everything that is undone and uninstalled when you update with a stock zip, and wiping data is a big step for those in my sort of position so flashing "some" custom ROM's is an un-worthy sacrifice at this phase.
If need be I will edit or delete my original post you quoted. I hope I did manage to bring into focus to some degree at some part of cause for the confusion emoji. Any ideas are welcome and thank you for your analytical input.

A perfect example. I have flash fiire but never used it, I read somewhere that it doesn't work as one would expect. That it does not preserve root against OTA, and that there truly is no solution available as if it were not possible. I take your word for it though. I personally am not ready to try it yet, just to provide resources for those who are and to be well educated when I am ready.
I'm still waiting for xPosed for the new architecture, I don't want to update just to find out it's available for 7.0 and not 7.1.1 however unlikely that may be. I know I can always back up, but I'd have to do so regularly to keep it up to date which can't be done once you've upgraded and it may be months before the framework is available if it can be done which I hear it has...
Too many variables, I'm on stand-by, ready to pay and grateful for my memories and the devs responsible for them...
