Hello everyone
I have a samsung galaxy s2
and today with heavy rain as i was trying to avoid a poodle of water my phone felt doawn without realizing it
and it was left in a water stream for about 5 minutes before finding it
it has a scratch at the upper left corner
I closed it and wiped then dry it with a hair blower for several minutes
but the thing is that I cant make it able to have a carrier signal
even when I boote it doesnt ask me for a pin
just opens like there isnt a sim card inside
now I have it in a bowl of rice
please if you can help me

the phone woeks fine
all functions are mormal
except for the sim it oesnt recognize that it has one and asks for it
propably from the drop it hit the antenna and the sim area malfunctioned

I sympathize with you. I dropped my phone once in the loo (it was clean, and dont ask what i was doing. lol). But it was only submerged for a few seconds. It worked fine after completely drying it off using a blow dryer. The problem with puddle water is that there debris that can get lodged in your phone. Hope yours is ok.

unfortunatelly the phone is broken at sim platform wich is on the phone
the cost to fix it is at 208 euro
a price too much above what I could pay
propably will wait for the nexus 4 at the price of 300 euro
but I m sad cause I LIKED the galaxy

So I was in an important phone call outside, when it was 107, and it seems the sweat got into the lcd. now I see some smudges on the screen.
Is there anyway to get it out? or will warranty cover it? does anyone think the rice trick will work?
Place it on top of your cable box while on. Just needs some dry heat for a night or two.

It seems that trick might have made it worse. Gonna do the rice trick now.
phone wasn't submerged, but enough water got to it to cause the water seal to turn pink. I blew dried it and dumped it in rice and what not.
I attempted to start it up the screen had no discolorations and it booted riight up but everything was force closing while trying to enter the phone from the lock screen.
so I rebooted and the phone stays at the galaxy s2 screen.
i attempted a nandroid (I already have a saved nandroid) but wanted to backup this one since i'm not sure it syncd some of the contacts.
when attempting the nandroid i got an error during the backup portion of the data.
Does that mean i should just recover from my original backup or is thier anything i should be doing?

Um i think you might have to get a replacement phone..
When i had a iPhone i dropped it in my pool so i let it dray out for 2 years and now it works.
Though i have a Galaxy S II cause i love android and the thing doesn't break plus i spilled water on it and it works fine with no effects.
Get some 90% alcohol. Remove covers, battery, Sim cards, etc.. submerge the phone in it for 3-5 minutes to displace any moisture still trapped inside. Take it out, let sit and evaporate for 10-15 minutes. Place inside your oven at 125° for 4-6 hrs. Replace battery and fire it up. If it still won't boot then return for warranty as your humi-dots will now be white

If you're going to try this at least wait an hour before the oven. And be sure to preheat it.

He means the humi-dots. Little white stickers that turn pink/red when a certain humidity level is reached..

Okay. Still at least preheat the oven so there isn't direct heat on the device which is much greater than 125.
And do the boards have a screen? Is that an issue?

ok everything seems to have worked. looks like my data was corrupted and restoreing worked...my only issue is with my volume down button, I have to apply either a lot of pressure or tapp hard repeatedly to get the volume to go down. Also my humi stuff is still pink. as i didn't want to take the phone apart.
any suggestions for the volume button and the humi?

Any residual moisture still trapped inside the board layers will slowly develop copper dendrites and kill your phone. The only way to stop the process is to bake it out. This will also dry out your humi-dots and turn them white again. It may work for now but in a couple months the problems will get worse.

Edit: Check out metallic electromigration phenomena. Exactly the reason for humi-dots and not honoring warranties on phones exposed to excessive moisture..

if we did this, how do you put the phone in the oven? won't it melt? scren up or down? on a cookie sheet? pizza stone? suggestions?
It's booting up now, but it gets REALLY hot on the back of the phone, (volme rocker) side, toward the bottom if you pop the back off the phone and look there, it's just below the circle that's molded into the plastic. it'll booth and run for a minute tops and then just turn off. this alcohol idea is intriguing to me.

Today I tried to test my phone how it respons when I‘ve dropped it in water
What I did:
1. It was too boring, so I‘ve got this idea
2. I‘ve dropped my phone in water for almost 5 seconds
3. I‘ve taken it out and tested, first time Back-Button wont work, then a few camera problems, battery drains (1% in 3 minutes![STANDBY!!!]), touchscreen wont response and I removed the battery: Water under the battery, was afraid to charge my phone. Rebooted, everything worked again
Changes:
My phone is cleaner
No fake, that‘s real

Okay I‘ve found a LG Optimus One a long time ago, it was a good phone so I buyed another one, now I have two O1s, but paid just for one, as I said, I‘ve found that.

Dry it slowly with an air dryer and use rice..rice is an absorbent....leave the phone,battery out in rice for 2 or 3 days and the moisture should be soaked up by the rice

How could you do such a thing!!!!!! I treat my lg like a diamond and you dump it in water?! However, I'd like try (you can) putting the phone in distilled water for a couple of hours, since distilled water conducts 0% electricity so it shouldn't damage the phone, right?

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right section but you guys can correct me if I'm wrong and I'll move it to another post.
So here is the case for my Sony Xperia Sola. It fell in water and when I picked it up and turned it on it turned on (bad mistake I know! but that was the first time I ever dropped my phone in water and didn't know what to do in that situation.) it seemed fine but I was still worry. I took out my Sim and SD card and let it dry for an hour. After an hour I turned it on again and it seemed fine so I just left it alone. I never turned off the phone though just for clarification, which I should have after many research but it was too late. Next day I tried turning it on again and it won't power on just a black screen. Then I put the charger on it and the red L.E.D. came on. So I thought the battery was just low tried again to power on but still a black screen. Am I at a total loss here? Can anything be done to save my phone I love this phone and I just had it for 2 months. Maybe a fried battery by chance?
The first thing you should do when a electronic device falls in water is to put it in a jar filled with rice, the rice will absorb water but I guess it's too late to tell you that. If you have still locked bootloader and warranty you could try going to assistance. Hope you solve the problem

I heard this from a friend who has tried this with success, immediately put the device in a container filled with alcohol. It repels the water and does not harm electronics. Remove the battery of course.... Let dry... Should work fine.

You can't remove battery on Xperia sola, it's built-in.

I think it's a little late to soak my Sola in alcohol. It's been 4 days already since the incident.

Yeah, That's what I thought too. Heard that you can't remove the battery, but is it possible to take it apart to find the battery inside? Not a good idea but why not right, phone isn't turning on so minus well. Do you think it could be a fried battery? My front l.e.d. light comes on so any possibility there?
If led turns on I don't think it's battery problem, maybe screen doesn't work cuz water did something there.

My brother just had this happen. A repair technician told him to take the phone apart and clean the corrosion off of the contacts throughout the phone. You can see it. He did, and the phone is fine now....

My brother didn't remove either. I think because alcohol evaporates very quick. He put his whole phone in the container. Later, after it dried, the phone worked. Maybe it was a fluke......

It's okay I didn't even buy warranty for the phone. So I'm at a dead end here only option left is to take it apart and see if I can do anything to it.

Yeah I'm getting the proper tools to take the phone apart first. Then see if I can see any corrosion. How did your brother clean the corrosion?

Hey, my brother used rubbing alcohol and a tooth brush. Not complicated. He dipped the tooth brush in a cup of rubbing alcohol and scrubbed all contacts and solder points he could see...

I was on CyanogenMod 10.1 and about a month ago I stopped getting service almost everywhere I drop calls all the time and I have no service at my girlfriends I thought it might be cyanogen mod but no one else was having my problem in the thread so I've been living with it until yesterday I got sick of it and finally found the time to ruu back to stock and when I went back to stock I still had no service at my girlfriends when I use to get service on stock and cm10.1 but it did say I had 1 bar and 3g but I still couldn't make calls or even send texts or browse the internet so now I'm back on cm10.1 and I'm wondering if anyone knows what's going on did I drop it a few too many times is there a part I can order that maybe broke in it that I could open and replace any suggestions would be great thanks in advance HTC rezound latest hboot 2.28 and radios I forget what the radios are even tried going back a version of radios and hboot cuz I'm soff but I'm on the latest atm

Have you checked the sim card to ensure there is no dirty contacts on it or that it is inserted completely?
Also, have you tried a different Rezound battery cover? The battery cover acts as your phone's primary antenna. If something is wrong or broken about it, it may not be making the proper contacts with your phone.

I tried the different battery cover I thought it was my extended battery one cuz it never fit right but I switched back to the OEM cover and no help I'll try my sim card right now and I'll let you know thanks for the reply

Well I'm home and that's the one place I've always had service I'll go to my grandmother's and check back in an hour thanks again

You could do like I did and shave all the contacts on the cover that touch pins on your phone. Make the metal shine a bit. See if that improved anything. Also, make sure your preferred network mode had lte and cdma in it

What did you use to shave it a dremel or just sandpaper? I'm at my grandmother's and I got 1 bar that jumps to 2 sometimes

I might of had some sand paper in my trucks tool box but I didn't feel like checking and I knew I had a knife in my glove box so I thought I'd take after my role model and use the knife although I have no luck I am in my girlfriends drive way with no service at all sending you this using her wifi

I had once problem with contacts for antenna located on the battery cover. Also, it would not hurt to check all the pins on the phone that they are spring loaded, not bent, not missing. Good luck.

Just to make sure, you have been keeping up with Fly's CM updates? For a while, there was an issue with low signal strength. It was fixed about 3 weeks ago if I recall. Maybe a little more.

All the little contact tabs appear to be there I gently pried up on them with a small screw driver and I just made a call and it seemed to work definitely better reception but it keeps cycling between 1 bar and no bars but not no service so I'm somewhat pleased i dont think its gonna get any better but i still will take suggestions and yes I keep up with all of fly's updates thank you everyone who helped I appreciate it
