[Q] I might have killed my new S3 by flashing CM10 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got a new phone, my mom bought it for me with the money we had saved and she hasn't even paid it whole yet.
I rooted it fine, but then I tried flashing CM10 on it, everything went smoothly but then it got stuck on the CM startup/splash screen or whatever it's called... when I turn it off it automatically reboots and the same thing happens.
it was locked to a carrier, that was probably what screwed it up... I don't know what to do...
if you need any info, please ask. I might know it.
please help :/

Have you definitely Flashed i9300 cm10. Did you factory reset before flashing
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Are you sure you have an international GS3?

THANK GOD. I found a stock rom and flashed it and everything wen't back to normal.
and yes, 100% sure it's the 9300, XXBLFB
now there's another problem, it's the stock 4.0.4 rom, and I clicked to update because I want Jelly Bean on it, but it says no updates available? what does that mean? can I flash a 4.1 stock rom over it? and where can I find it, I've been looking with no luck...

did u ever get the JellyBean update to work? I have the tmo S3 and was able to update via Samsungs kies software. However, in sep I had an ATT Galaxy Note and an international factory unlocked Note around for a bit, and the ATT version was supported in Samsung Kies for the ICS upgrade, but the international was not. I believe ICS had to be flashed in the end. I just thought I'd let u know what happened for me, hope it helps. Good luck

But I'm almost positive everyone else I call will give me similar replys. So if you guys know anything please post!!

Darn... well I tried to flash my s2 but problems occured (such as application error forcing me to leave the application and a pop-up would show, or random shut downs). This made me to flash back to the stock Bell firmware, but even after that there seems to be some problems and also the bootloader logo is now changed to a i-9100 logo instead of a i9100m logo. Please help. I did follow all the instructions that were given in the threads to flash but I guess I messed something up.... Any ideas?

I'm not sure.. I might want to send the phone in for repair. There seems to couple of problems that reappears even after reinstalling firmware.. so... I'm not sure. I just want to know how to install a firmware that would make everything work correctly on my galaxy; within the warrenty limits.
Check here for a thread along the name of "how to update bell galaxy s2 to 2.3.5" it explains everything.

If you want logo back then flash bell kernel and I do a full wipe. Your i9000m will be back. Actually if you had followed flashing instructions properly you would not have problems with 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 either.
You obviously need to learn more but here is a free tip. Don't even dream sending it for service to bell with i9000 logo! Or any traces of flashing. You would be better of if it was dead. That is unless you like to pay for out of warranty repairs.

Yep I tried everything.
1) download the firmware I want to use.
2) check kies and all of its applications are closed
3) turn phone off
4) take sim and memory card out
5) get it to download mode and insert usb
6) turn on odin and input all the downloaded files
7) start the odin program
8) once everything is downloaded and loading is complete on the sgs2 take the usb port out
9) finished!
These are the procedures I take.
Anything missing or should I correct?
And also, how do you change the bootloader?
PLEASE HELP.
And what other ways can Samsung detect that I flashed???

Do a factory reset. Then flash the orignal Bell firmware, kernel, modem and CSC. Downloads are listed in this thread. If you want to send it in for repair then you will then need to buy a $5 USB jig off ebay to reset the custom ROM counter before sending in for repair.

[Q] SGS3 GT-I9300 will not boot, what do I do?

So I need some help guys. I have the international factory unlocked 16gb Samsung Galaxy S3.
I recently rooted my phone using ODIN and CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar
It worked great until I saw an OTA update available (Jelly Bean)
My phone would download it but it would not install it.
I did a bunch of Google and Android and XDA searching and the solution I decided to go with was flashing TeamEpic-RemoveRoot-from-Recovery-signed.zip through CWM. Then pushing TeamEpic-Sprint-SGS3-stock-boot-and-recovery.tar.md5 through ODIN. By doing this I would be stock and un-rooted, I could install the OTA update, and then re-root through the previous method.
www . epiccm. org/2012/06/sprint-sgs3-stock-restore. html is the link to where I got these files.
However, after doing these two things my phone does not boot. It instead just sits at the
Samsung
GALAXY SIII
GT-I9300
screen.
I tried to go back in to ODIN and Re-push CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4
I tried to boot in to recovery and install from back up. It is not finding the back up that Titanium made.
I tried wipe/factory reset and it did it but i'm still stuck at the same screen.
I tried pulling the battery.
I tried Pushing CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 after the wipe/factory reset.
None of these things worked. Sorry if my problem is somewhere else in another forum. I spent 2 hours searching and came up with nothing. Individuals with similar problems as mine were not able to access recovery or download mode.
Any help will be greatly appreciated and thanks so much for your time.
I should also note that there was no recovery after I installed the TeamEpic stuff from ODIN...I tried to boot recovery but the screen just flickered and settled right back in to the same spot.

Titanium Backups are to be used when the new Version/ROM is running, not from CWM. At this point you can only use Nandroid backups which you have to backup/restore through CWM.

Thanks for all the help. And how do I get OTA updates to work since this method obviously is not corrct.

That's the thing.. I'm still on initial release firmware.. my carrier takes forever to release updates and I can't wait..
Isn't there a way I can receive these updates without the carrier delays?

Maybe Entropy512 can help with the best way to flash a new package!! GL if anything ever did happen I sure hope Samsung would give you a replacement.....
Another question (might be related)
Hey all,
I have just got a brand new i777, I just wanted to upgrade it to ICS and sim-unlock it.
The upgrade is to be done through kies, no problem in that.
The sim-unlocking is the issue .. i know it was easy in gingerbread to root and use herlroz app .. but now is there an easy way without using ODIN or flashing a kernel to sim-unlock this phone on the official ICS ?

I upgraded my co-worker's Note to Electron's UCLF6 stock rom just a week ago.
CWM'd back to stock, had to CWM flash the stock GB Rogers modem in order to get the upgrade to register.
He's wasting his data doing the upgrade now. Luckily it's only 251MB.
Maybe I'll hitup a Timmy's or Mc'D's at lunch and upgrade to Rogers ICS.

No soup for me so far
I have a Rogers I717R, unlocked and rooted via the Odin method and am on Bell LTE and flashed with a Bell radio.
I have clicked on "Update" numerous times now, but it keeps coming back to me with "No update available"...is it because I'm rooted with CWM and running a Bell radio on the Rogers firmware?
I downloaded and installed Kies, but it says that my device doesn't support firmware updates via Kies or something to that effect... ;-(
I don't mind losing root (have to use that POS GOOD for Enterprise software for work), but I'm not sure what the issue is here or how best to address it. Do I have to reflash the original, untouched Rogers I717R firmware and radio via Odin to get the ICS update?
Thanks,
aus

Do you think I have to flash back to stock Rogers firmware and if I do, will I lose all my data? That would be a bummer...

Probably a stupid question, but *how* did you use Kies to update? I get the prompt about "device is not supported for updates" or something to that effect in Kies
Update: nevermind, I found a CWM flashable Rogers modem and this time when I fired up Kies, it prompted me with an update to firmware.
I had to do this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657262
Followed those steps to get mine to successfully update OTA.
Guess with the custom roms something got screwed up.
I had to roll back to the original gingerbread Roger rom. When this was done the update happened flawlessly.
Once rooted it works like a charm.

Just moved over from the S3, so be easy. Learning the ins and outs of the ever-confusing 4.3 update here as well. I just got a 4.1.2 rooted with old CWM (non-touch) Note 2, and every time I try to update to Philz, it claims this is a non-verizon device. It is. The guy before used a T-Mobile sim in, would that make a difference? It is also a stock Verizon rom, so I'm not sure why I am getting this error. Do I need to flash a verizon stock 4.1.2 rom to reset it?
Edit: should I install Philz via Odin, or simply odin back to stock 4.1.2, re-root, and unlock bootloader again?
Edit 2: if anyone can chime in on Philz or not, that would help. I can install any other recovery no problem, so I'm wondering if the file that is uploaded is taking me to the right one? I know AFH is doing server work.

What's the phone model? sch-i605 would Verizon. Also do not update to 4.3 official you will probably forever have locked bootloader.

Yep. That's the model. I actually had no issues flashing the latest cwm and twrp at all. Starting to wonder if AFH messed something up.
Yep, I'm aware of all the 4.3 stuff. S3 had the same thing. I made sure this was on 4.1.2 when I bought it and just flashed sophisticated tonight.

I just went to TWRP and think I'll stay. Used it on my S3 too. Sophisticated is running great. Fast, and battery life has been most excellent.
