[Q] Phone gets wrong orientation - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hi everyone,
Since last night I'm having an unusual problem with the accelerometer/motion sensors. I tried with the "bubble level test" and It's like if the values were offset, plus there's some lag retrieving values (bubble gets occasionally stuck).
This problem started after I tried a few JB roms (shostock3, superNexus, and then came back to a nandroid backup, Shostock gingerbread).
Tried wiping data/factory reset, cache, dalvik, flashing other roms, battery pull... still the problem persists.
Calibration tool says "passed" yet keeps giving wrong values and lag.
This affects the screen orientation leaving it stuck on landscape modes.
Any other ideas before starting to assume it's a hardware problem?
Thanks in advance =)

Yes, I already tried that... It makes a short countdown and says "calibrated", but doesn't fix it. Thank you anyway

It happened to me when trying AOKP (I think after a Titanium restore, not sure if it had anything to do with the problem), but restored stock ICS and the problem dissapeared.
You may want to try with a different ROM, if it is still not working I would say it is a hardware problem.

Well, I restored to gingerbread and the problem is still there. Seems like a hardware problem indeed, but it's just weird how it was working well until last night.

[Q] Starburst ROM - Lost Auto-Rotation (Motion Sensor seems dead?)

I guess I don't have enough posts yet to post in the Starburst thread in Development, but I was wondering had anyone ever experienced their motion sensor dying, or at least the loss of the auto-rotation feature after flashing this rom?
I have re-flashed several times, but I have NOT done a full factory wipe and then flashed yet. Perhaps this is the next step.
When I go into settings > screen > horizontal calibration, the thing appears to be a dead stick (little ball doesn't move) and when you hit calibrate it sits there for a few minutes then screen goes black and it goes to my lock screen.
I am going to try a full factory wipe and then flash it back to stock, but has anyone ever encountered this before?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. - I've searched everywhere and can't find mention of anyone having this problem before.
Okay after restoring backup from ROM manager the rotation is working again, indicating it was an issue with my flashing most likely? I will try a full wipe and try again with Starburst.
So even with a complete wipe, even formatting data, system, etc. I cannot get rotation working in Starburst rom. Any clues? This is completely baffling.

[Q] Device suddenly stops working and needs to be wiped

I have a serious issue with both my I9100 devices.
it suddenly freezes and requires reboot. when i do it, it stuck on boot screen (Where the yellow triangle would be if using unofficial firmware)
nothing helps, only wipe data. once I wipe, device loads fine and starts working again.
I tought at first its rom/kernel related, I switched everything and even tried stock rom.
it keeps happening...today, I tried to swap batteries as one got empty, I took the battery out of the stocked-rom device (after turning it off) and then later when i switched it on, it had to be wiped.
same as with my other device.
Anyone has any clue what this is about?
Its became a big issue for me, I cant flash/wipe every few days...
One device is on Neatrom 4.4 lite, the other stock-everything, both 4.1.2

u can just rewert to stock ICS 4.0.3 firmware on both the phones and check for the issue (whether its firmware related or any hardware issue as such)
thanks for your help,
It did not happen on 403, tough it didnt happen on 4.1.2 for some while either.
what else would you suggest me to test?

1) with 403 for some time once again to ensure no issues of freezing.
2)then a different 4.1.2 stock/custom rom altogether to check for the same(freezing) issue.
stay for some time on those firmwares and see (may be one or two charge cycles).
3) do not install any mods on top of the firmware, just stay stock and see
One of the devices is already back to 403, while the second one on stock 412
the hardest thing to tell if 403 solves it or not, as it happens occasionally, once in a week or two.
I tried two different stock roms, so that would rule out #2.
The weird thing is that wiping data is enough.
data is separated from the rom itself, yet it causes the entire device not to boot anymore.

Battery High Temp, Fast Discharging, Charging Error

I know there has been a million posts about this issue and I tried all the solutions. Different roms and kernels, factory resets, changing usb, battery calibrations through different methods all with no effect. In frustration I was ready to toss my s2 in the garbage but before I did I decided to try something else (links below) since I figured I had nothing to lose.
It works!! for me anyway. I removed the IC. Didn't replace just removed and my phone now works perfectly. Charges, doesnt overheat. I was reaching battery temps of 80C within a few minutes of turning the phone on before. It was even overheating while turned off! No more warnings or charging paused. So if you have nothing to lose and are ready to toss your S2 like me try this.

When I was on ICS my phone ran without any problems.
I can't really remember but I think I had installed an app and it started making my phone go crazy. So I went to AOKP JB 4.2.2 and started having the high heat problem again.
So I removed an app that I had Vault and set playstore to update over wifi only.
I put the Siyah kernel. I did flash a few other modems and I had the same problem. I flashed current modem and all is fine.
Wipe your cache and dalvik cache too.
Try downloading your modem file again.
All I can say is that my battery can now last 3days (in 2g mode no data) but when I do turn on data it does not suck my battery down in 15 minutes.
*I did click on HSDP option and then turned it back on and off and back on again.
1. I would start with a clean basic ROM. Don't just wipe but format everything 2 times.
2. try different modems (I think this is where the problem is)
3. new kernel or different kernel
This phone is working great now.

Like I said tried everything. This fixed mine. Just sharing for others who have also tried everything. I did check the capacitor in question was the source of my problem first and there was extreme heat coming from it.

i9100 doesn't boot today, yesterday it was working fine

Hello xda!
Well, I have a problem, yesterday my phone was working great, but today when I woke up, I found my phone in the CM9 boot screen and it never pass through it. Sometime during the night I woke up and checked the time with the phone and everything was FC'ing, calendar, contacts, and many other system and non-system app were crashing, then I rebooted to fix that crazyness and here I am, stuck in the boot screen. :/
I don't know what's wrong, yesterday everything was fine! I did not fiddle with anything this night! Did I sleepwalk?
The phone is a SGS2 i9100 with CM 9.1 (and the boot animation of CM10).
So far, I tried wiping the dalvik cache, but I'm still stuck. I hope we can fix this without having to wipe everything... It was long ago since I did the last backup.
You could try a dirty flash of whatever CM9 build you're currently running without wiping. To be honest though, this probably won't work (but it won't make things 'worse'). Then try a wipe. And if none of that works, back to stock via Odin & either restore your backup or start from scratch (re-flash whatever rom/kernel you want, restore your apps & contacts, etc, etc).
But what it puzzles me is what happened tonight that the SO broke.
And the upper part of the phone, around the camera (where the main board is placed) gets extremely hot, I even left the phone 5 minutes in the refrigerator stuck at the boot screen to see if waiting long enough would do something, but it didn't.
I guess I'll try doing what you said, and if that doesn't work I'll start from scrath. Anyway I wanted to update to JB. I'll lose some pulled apps from the Play Store but... meh
Could be something hardware on the fritz, or the heat could be related to the firmware problems you're seeing. Don't put the phone in the fridge; fridges tend to be a bit moist, you don't want to expose the phone to moisture like that.
I guess you'll find out if it's hardware or not when you fix it; if the heating issue remains once you've got it running 'normally', then there might well be something hardware-related going on.

Just try to flash CM9 again without wiping data, wipe only cache partition and dalvik cache, you will not lose data.
I tried reflashing CM9.1, but it's still not working... I'm starting to get worried.
This night I will try to flash a stock rom with odin and wipe everything. And if that don't works... well, damn.
I did say it probably wouldn't work. You're getting in a tizz over nothing, to be honest. You're acting as if your phone's busted (it isn't). Go back to stock & start from there.
Man, I guess it's normal to get a little worried when your phone doesn't get through the boot if I didn't do anything to it... but I wasn't THAT desperate, I was pretty sure it was something software related. Sorry if I gave that impression. D:
I just tried to load a backup that I did back in January and the phone booted, so I guess my only option is start from scratch (and leave my phone far away from me during night).
Thanks for the help!
You are not the 1st person for things going "bump in the night",and you wont be the last.
Seems mostly to happen when cm10 is mentioned.

Xperia U touch issues!!

Hey guys,
I was using my phone, everything ok but SUDDENLY it seems to have some touch issues! Sometimes the touch is unresponsive, for like 0,2 / 0,3 sec. I press and I have to press it again. That's frustrating!! Especially when typing on keyboard!! I thinked that the problem was caused by the ROM ( maybe little lags ) and I changed ROM, but the problem is still alive!! The phone didn't fall, this happened suddenly!!
Can someone help me?

Clear cache/ dalvik cache/ factory reset and see if this helps.
Also, did you dirty flash your ROM ? This usually happens if you dirty flash a ROM. Always start fresh.
Secondly, if you made backup and trying to restore it, that might cause the problem.

I tried to wipe.. but same issue. I always did the wipes before flashing a new ROM, so I think the installs were always clean. I tried to flash a firmware with flashtool, but same result..
Is there a solution for this? Now I'm trying to flash Gingerbread firmware, but I think the problem will remain..

Well, 0.2 seconds is a very small delay. However, if the problem persists, I suppose you should check typing speed/sensitivity in settings.
I suspect you have alot of applications in your phone and Xperia U has only 512 RAM which is not enough to run JB smoothly.

Nope.. I know that our device can not run lot of apps, in fact I have just some apps, no Facebook and something like that..
Anyway, for example, I did a touch screen test : it works in all zones, but, if I touch the screen 10 times, only 7 times can be "received" from device

Maybe the digitiser is having some sort of problem. This is usually caused by humidity / water in your phone in small amount . I hope I'm wrong.
Clean your screen thoroughly and remove screen protector and use ultra thin protector instead. See if that helps. On my devices smudgy screen has problems with touch .
Same issue here
Im also having same issue here..
it is taking only 6 out of 10 touches. a few regions not responding to the touch
same problem with me, i hope some people give best solutions for this issue
Maybe it's caused by charging the phone with non-official chargers. It overcharge all the hardware and can easily damage it.
Anyways if you have warranty you can flash the original ROM, relock the bootloader and bring it to Sony.
