Post your tec-tile uses. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I just finished programming my tec tiles. I have one for home, car, work and bedtime. I have set up pretty basic stuff. I am sure many of you out there have better and more creative uses that I would love to hear about. I am particularly interested in the ways people are using tec-tiles with Tasker. I have been using Tasker for a long time, but mostly I just feel stupid trying to set it up.

I got a package of them, but haven't really played with them much since I have been messing around too much with my device. Need to invest some time on them, but in the car I plan on having it turn on BT to pair with the HFK in the car, open music app so I can goto my podcasts (ditch my iPod). Home I will have it airplane mode, and turn on alarm clock. I know I have a few more things I want it to do for each but I have to give it more thought.

They are a brand of NFC tags made by samsung I believe. I went and purchased a set from www.tagsfordroid.com they are priced very well.

They are Samsung branded nfc tags. After further research I should have bought them elsewhere. But, I used a 50% off code so still not a bad deal. I have set up one for home by my door that turns Bluetooth off, wifi on when I get home... One for the car that does the opposite of the home one and launches Google Music. I also used Tasker to keep the screen on while I am in the car... One is beside to mute notifications... One is at work to turn off Bluetooth and wifi and lower volume. So far I am loving the one touch functionality. I am wondering what other cool things can be done.

I use NFC Task Launcher and it is the best one I have found so far. Don't know if you know or not, but you can do switches which have 2 tasks. so if you tap it once itll do like normal then the next time it goes to the second task. So you can have like in car first tap turn BT on, screen timeout off, google music. Second tap turns off BT, screen timeout 30 seconds, close google music, text wife that you made it where you were going safely.

Once I get my Note I'm planning on getting a set of NFC stickers/keychain. On the keychain I plan on putting a link to a certain YouTube video. Whenever someone with an NFC phone asks what I have tagged on there, they get Rick Rolled

we'll have a new keychain available at andytags.com in about a week! It's an NTAG203 chip so it's compatible with all phones, but I wouldn't use it with the Samsung Tectile App.
The Samsung Tectile app is okay, but there are WAY better apps out there (we keep a list of the ones we recommend on our website). The Samsung app writes a ton of extra info on the tag for no good reason.
Anyway, we have both Mifare 1K Classic tags (same as Samsung Tectiles) and the NTAG203 tags - all Android themed and in various colors.
The keychain has a black background with our own Andy the Android NFC Face logo in a glowing blue. Should be on the website by 2/1

I got a pack of the free textiles with the free flip cover promotion. I have one in the car to turn off bluetooth, start car home ultra and forward phone calls to the built in phone in car. I just started using Tasker to create a "normal" profile that un-forwards calls and a few other small things. That way I don't have to have another sticker in car to turn car profile off. And in case I forget to un car profile it, I can now so it one click from home screen with Tasker widget. Man that app can do a lot.
Sent from my Note 2 using xda app-developers app

I use NFC task launcher, I like that I can run the changes from the app even without the tag, in case I forget.
I have:
One for bed, Task 1 turns on auto bright, ringer to 1, notification to 0, Task 2 screen to max, ringer to max, notifications to max
One for kids, Sends text to me letting me know they are leaving or have got home.
One for car, Task 1 turns on car dock/driving mode, BT on, media volume to max, wifi off, ringer to max, notifications to max(in case I forget my other tag), Task 2 car dock/driving mode off, media to 0, BT off
One for work, Task 1, ringer and notification to 1, WiFi on, Task 2, ringer and notifications to max, WiFi off
I think that is it.

I use one on my WiiMote to launch the pairing app, and another on my keys to boost brightness and disable wifi when I leave the house.

[Q] Who has used Tasker on their SGS2?

Hey,
So I've heard some pretty good things for Tasker. I like the options available, and the configuration seems very detailed and customizable. I've searched on these forums, but some people say that it caused their phone to freeze, and they had to re-flash their system. I'm not sure if it was because they added some stupid setting, or if Tasker genuinely messed up. Does anyone have any input they can add?
i love tasker. been using it for about a year now. i have set up several different tasks and automations....excellent app
I have no issues with Tasker, though I'm barely scraping its potential. Basically using it with Minimalistic Text to give me weather, missed calls and missed SMS notifications.
used it on my captivate for a year and now my S2 for the past 9 days. been very solid. i do some cool stuff. for example:
1. plug in phone between the hours of 10pm and 7am do the following:
phone says: silent mode on
then it does the following:
silent mode on
system, media, incoming call, notification volume all go to 0
when i unplug or go outside of the time window it says silent mode off and reverts back to my original volumes.
2. location based sound settings
when i leave my house it turns wifi off and all sounds up. when i get to work it turns wifi on and all my volumes to half so i dont blast people while in a meeting.
3. paging
at work we use sms as a pager. when u send something to ur att txt email address it comes through as 410 something something. so whenever i see a 410 number, it turns all volumes up, plays and repeats a sound 3 times, then puts the phone back in the state it was. i.e. if at night silent (see item 1) and if during the day whatever location based profile i was in.
basically, tasker is bad ass. it has a big learning curve. i am a programmer so conditional based logic comes more natural.
Very stable here.First time using it, there is definitely a learning curve but out it's quite logical and obviously powerful.
Used it on my Captivate and now on the SGSII, absolutely no problems. I just use it for turning on my Wifi when I'm at home, turning auto-rotate on when I turn on my browser and turning GPS on when I open up maps.
Tasker has been stable on every device I've used it on, including this one. It just may be my best paid app. Expensive (in comparison to other apps) and complex with a learning curve, but the immense functionality and potential make it worth it.
logic ?

Bla Bla, if it all came so natural you should set the phone to silence mode instead of setting all volumes to 0, its more logical.

I been using it for about a month now. Love it. No problems what so ever. If u need to turn GPS on or off u need to download "secure settings" from the market and integrate it into ur tasks. This app is bad ass. Worth ever penny IMO.

Things id like to change

Maybe there are fixes for my issues. As I am new to android I'm not sure how to get them corrected. Here's a list. Maybe someone can land a hand.
How to keep screen on while on a charger.
How to make the GPS turn on and off when app starts and finishes.
How to set so it can detect a known wifi source, then activate wifi.
How to get the long lasting battery results everyone seems to be getting.
How to set the email app to open to the emails versus the screen to select which account to view as I have multiple accounts set up.
How to keep the lockscreen front turning off 3 seconds after I hit the wake button but not swiping to unlock.
That's about it for now. I come from an iphone ecosystem and am used to a few features my JB iphone provides. I'm sure ill have more "how to" questions.
Thank you all for the responses!

Screen setting to never off. And honestly, why the hell do you want the screen always on while charging? I charge mine when I'm not using it.

Stop doing stupid **** on your phone. Your battery wont last 20 hours if you use if heavily. Don't tell me your icrap did either. My wife says battery is ridiculous on her Skyrocket compared to her icrap 4
How to set the email app to open to the emails versus the screen to select which account to view as I have multiple accounts set up.
Depends on what email app you are using. Also, click the little icon in your notification dropdown. Brings you to the mail just received
How to keep the lockscreen front turning off 3 seconds after I hit the wake button but not swiping to unlock.
dunno... doesn't bother me. It takes me less than 3 seconds to come to a decision on what the hell I want to do
How to resize the widgets
What launcher are you using? Touchwiz only lets you resize certain Samsung widgets.

Sounds like you are very new to Android, so you have normal questions. First thing it to figure out what the settings for your phone do. Theres always the Samsung forums for asking about your specific device also. I'm not sorry if that all sounds harsh. It was meant to. icrappers turning Android annoy me. There's an amazing app called Tasker that will do a lot of your wish list. It's all about contexts - e.g. "on external power" "App {x} is in the foreground." It's the best ~$6 you'll ever spend, and never want to have another phone with out it. Almost all of it's awesome functions work without root, too.

Thanks for the support. If I came from a walled garden, then why would I expect these functions that should be so easy to do. I have gone through the settings and came to the conclusion I needed help. Hence this post. If you can't help, I understand. Not everyone has that type of intelligence.

As to you wanting the lockscreen to stay on longer, there are several lockscreen replacements you could use. I'm not sure which ones have the option besides widgetlocker though. With widgetlocker, you can set the lockscreen timeout to various durations. I know it worked on my infuse, not sure about the note though.
The downside is that it costs a couple bucks and it will drain your battery a bit if I remember correctly because it keeps the device in a wakelock and does not allow deep sleep. Its not a huge battery drain, but it does some. However, if the timeout is more important than a tiny amount of battery drain, I suggest doing that.

TASKER!

I'm still feeling my way through this app, but its awesome. Anyone here using it with confidence and proficiency want to share some of your custom tasks and settings?
When I get a calendar notification for work (3 hour reminder) tasker automatically sets my alarm for my preset times. Never forget to set alarm again!
Spen helper works great for some customization as well.
I use ivona text to speech engine to tell me when some of my automation is happening. Makes me feel like James Bond, and makes my wife role her eyes.

I bought tasker when it was on sale but never got it to work very well. I watched the how-to videos, followed the directions, etc, just couldn't get it to do what I wanted. I recently starting playing with Automateit and have found it to be a lot easier (at least for simple stuff, which is all I wanted). I was easily able to set up a handul of rules (1. maps open, gps on; 2. maps closed, GPS off; 3. MX Player on, screen to 100% brightness; 4. Call ends, go to homescreen, 5. 11:30 PM silence all). They also have a "market" where you can download rules other people have uploaded.
Tasker seems more powerful, just beyond my grasp apparently.

Yeah I can understand the frustration with the learning curve, just spent the last couple hours trying to set up auto profiles for when GPS and WiFi should activate only to realize I was failing because I'm pointing tasker to open the GPS or Wi-Fi settings menu instead of the state change toggle.
I'm going to stick with it though...hey I can't get any worse than I already am. It's funny because I'm really feeling like a super geek again...takes me back to the good old days off my OG DROID. Love Android, I will never understand iOS users.

Check out the tasker wiki on his website (google tasker or go there from playstore entry). It includes lots of examples both of profiles you can just download and use, and also step throughs of how to set up specific tasks yourself.
I use it to turn off keyguard (pin lock) when I'm at home or in the car, adjust volumes in those places, and silence everything except alarms at night, also to autorotate to landscape when in the smartdock.

You can do the same things as this with "automate it" and it's free. Just throwing it out there
My favorite thing I ever did with Tasker was on a previous phone, I had a fully functional bluetooth timeout system working, where if the bluetooth was switched on, it would automatically switch off after 5 minutes if nothing connected. If something did connect, it would wait 5 minutes after disconnecting before it turned off. It would also switch to always on in certain situations (such as being in a car dock). It required multiple profiles, multiples tasks, and multiple variables to pull it off, but it was a thing of beauty. I don't use that anymore, because I don't need it on this phone...the battery doesn't even seem to be affected by bluetooth.
Currently, I use it to do simple stuff, like launch my desk clock app and silence notifications when plugged in and on the left side between 9PM and 9AM, silence notifications when in the car dock, and kill audio apps when removed from the car dock. I think it's a lot easier to learn when you already understand a lot of the fundamentals of coding, because a lot of it translates, though it requires a different manner of creativity and mental acrobatics to do certain things since there's no direct "OR" clause that would be really handy in a profile definition.

Galaxy Gear Fit works on G2

Sort of.
I bought my gear fit yesterday and messaging notification, including 3rd party apps, like whatsapp, work. I need to install Google calendar to get calendar notifications. All you need to do is download gear fit manager apk and pair. I can also use the media controller to skip tracks and control volume.
The watch can sense your wrist motion, and screen will switch on when you raise and turn your wrist to your face. Screen is super nice. Built is plastic but don't feel cheap at all. You can change wall paper. There are different home screens that allow you to customize to show the time together wirh different information, such as next calendar activity (which I use), or pedometer data, or weather.... Etc.
S health doesn't work. But I used to use pebble, and can say gear fit is much better as it can show emotions, , or whatever they are called. I can still use the heartbeat sensor, pedometers, exercise measures, but data just can't be sync to phone without s health.
Since Samsung released the sdk, I am hopeful that the exercise data will be supported by 3rd party apps eventually.
Let me know if you have any question. Oh yeah, the control is smooth, and based on my experience, the battery should last around 4 days.
Great watch... Anyone wants my pebble?

Great good to know thanks for the info!
Shame they designed it 90 degrees off...
I have seen the latest firmware that allows portrait mode. I don't have that option yet.

I'll take it :fingers-crossed:
Is a usb cable or something to connect with a pc included to the deilvery contents?
This is really good news to read! Thanks for the info.
Scrib'd on my OG2
The usb cable came with it. It has a normal micro USB charger that connects to a small adapter which connects to the watch.

Are you sure weather can work on lg g2
Yes, except all the health functions. The other thing is though you need to install the latest gear fit manager with the gear fit being updated with the latest firmware. You can do that if you have another Samsung gs4 or 5.... If not, then go to your local electronic store to connect your gear fit too update firmware. Then disconnect it and leave.
I am still using both g2 and gear fit.

Personal Unlocking

Has anyone figured out how to enable "Personal Unlocking"
It was demo'ed at I/O. If you have your android wear device in range, it wont prompt you to unlock your phone.
I cant seem to find it, im running L preview.

i'm not sure it's available yet in the preview, wish it was since that is what i'm running, but if it is yeah more details about it would be nice to.
I'm pretty sure it's not available yet. It will be in the full release of L. I'm guessing it was just a demo at Google I/O and it's still too buggy or similar.
There are a number of apps that can do this. I use SkipLock and I have heard that pebble locker can do this. I don't however use L Preview as it really driver so I'm not sure if SkipLock works in the preview

True, I'm just using tasker and secure settings to unlock my phone when the watch is connected. When it's disconnected tasker checks whether I manually disconnected (cause I'm home and want the watch to charger eg) or whether the watch or the phone got stolen and then takes appropriate action (alarm, photo, tracking, password lock, etc)

Does anyone know if Pebble Locker or Skiplock has a on/off widget. I would like a one touch on/off feature for when I'm in the car, etc., and it would help to have one vs. having to go through serveral menus. I just installed Skiplock and couldn't find one, so I figured I would ask here.
Thanks.

Do you not wear your G Watch in the car? With skiplock just have your watch set as a trusted Bluetooth device and as long as it is connected you shouldn't need your phone's pin/password.

Sorry, maybe I should've been more clear. Yes, I wear the Gwatch in the car. But I only want to be able to use Trusted BT Device in the car and not when my phone is sitting my desk at work for example and I'm in range with my watch. Therefore, I'd like to be able to toggle Skiplock on and off with a toggle vs. having to find the app, start the app, click on settings, turn on the slider, close app. I don't see a on/off toggle in the widget gallery so I was asking if Pebble Locker had one or there was one with SL that I was missing.

If you have root I believe you might be able to do this with tasked and the secure settings plugin. Do you have a WiFi network at your work that you can connect your phone to? I think I might try to set this up on my own after I get off of work for the weekend.
