[Q] Want to tweak Car Mode a little bit.. - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there! I was hoping someone much smarter than i figured these things out and was willing to guide me My phone is a motorola atrix 4g (as reference to any reader )
I would like Car Mode to extend the display timeout from normal use to about an hour
Can I change the "Wake Up" phrase, and if so, where/how?
Can I get it to call open other applications other than the 4 default (hoping to add Torque?
Can I add my screens and buttons?
Thank you so much to all for your help!

For keeping your display on, you could use screebl. With that, the phone has to be flat before it goes into sleep.
Check out the lapdock thread, think they're trying to automate screen resolution change when docked. Should be able to work if you set it up right.
Also, if you're on the stock ROM, try Smart Actions app by Motorola. Think they had an option for car dock.

with "IntelliScreen - screen control" app you can set custom screen timeouts for almost any application.

Turning off LED button back lights

Hello,
Anyone have an idea of how to simply turn off LED button back lights?
It seems it could be done as there is already at least one app that uses them for notification.
Here is what I am trying to do:
I've downloaded a desktop alarm clock app that turns the screen back light WAY down so it is not disruptive in a completely dark room while sleeping. But, the buttons remain illuminated.
Basically 8 want to use tasker to launch those clock and turn off the button back lights if the phone is charging and the time is after a certain hour.
I am thinking I could fire off a script with tasked to do thwarting back lights portion of this as well, but I don't even know where to begin.
Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm rooted, and use an app called AdjBrightness. Works wonders, and also via menu, you can totally turn off the LED lights.
Hope that helps.
Cool, I will check it out. Ideally I would like to do it automatically, without having to open another app, but this tells me it ostensibly at least doable.
Thanks!

If you want the code, just do this from adb or from your phone's terminal.
echo "0" > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness
Thanks! I think that is getting pretty close to what I need. Any idea if/how this could be written or saved as a SL4A script that could be fired off with tasker?
Also, I'd need to configure an exit task as well for morning, so I will need to know how to set all the buttons back to normal.
I know this is kinda minor, but I am excited about it nonetheless. Looking forward to having a nice, super dim clock to check the time late at night.
Thanks again!

You could always leave your computer on overnight and make a macro that executes the adb command to dim the leds and then executes another that makes them bright again at a certain time.
There must be something similar you can do on the phone though.
Thanks for the thoughts Meltus.
Well, I did it! I actually created a solution that is, at least to me, the first thing I have done that might actually be worth it to others and might be worth sharing.
I'll post this in more detail in the Apps/Themes forum as I am not sure it belongs here, but the short version is that you can use a plug-in called "Locale Execute" that allows you run SU commands in Tasker.
So, I created a profile in Tasker so that when the phone is plugged in to AC power between certain hours (I may add some other contexts to tweak it, like maybe say it has to be in landscape orientation), it launches my desk clock app, turns the screen down to the very lowest setting (not the "low" setting allowed at the user level), and turns the button lights off using the command you gave me.
Then, when the AC power is pulled, It automatically goes to my default home screen, returns the screen brightness to normal, and turns the button back-lights back on.
It really is pretty cool!

Does the louder volume app work with the streak?

No i'm afraid it doesn't. Also, send me a pm next time rather than ask in someone else's thread
I did turne off button's back-light by adjusting the context of "/sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness" file from 255 to 0, it works great, but it gets back to normal after phone restart, I even went to properties of the file and removed all the "write" rights, but it won't give in.

[Q] Sleep Mode

Quick question..
I have a Samsung ECR-D1D3BEGSTA AT&T SGH-i777 Desktop Dock and when I put my phone in the dock it initiates a screen with time and weather. I will call it "sleep mode" for lack of a better description.
So I have another dock that I am going to start using because it lets me charge with the case on unlike the Samsung Dock. However on this new dock it does not initiate sleep mode. I really like this clock and weather screen.
My question is can I initiate sleep mode any other way?
fyi (I have a i777 running Phone-Bricker 2.5)
Thanks in advance!
I tried Desk Dock from the market but do not like it as much as the stock app. I am sorry if I am calling it sleep mode. I know sleep mode is when the screen turns off. I don't think its driving mode. Not sure what to call it. Whatever the hell its called I would like to initiate the screen.
I arm searched everywhere and cannot find the answer. Again thanks for your help.

Thats the clock app, or alarm clock app. should be one of the two in your app drawer depending on what your running i believe.
As to having it autostart the app when docked, no clue.
Thanks for your reply. I found a nice app in the market that functions very similar.

Screen do not turn off during recharging

Hi,
is there any way to set "do not turn off screen" during recharging?
This option is in "laboratory settings" in HTC phone, but i cant find it here.
Thanks
Jan
No setting I know of but you can do this with Tasker app.
Use a program called Battery Booster free from the market. Go into settings and click never button. Screen will stay on forever if need be without even touching the screen.
You'll destroy your screen.
It'll cause burn in.

I know that. It was just an example. He wanted something to keep his screen on so I just gave him a idea program to use. There's no way I'd keep my screen on all day on a same pic.

[MOD] Use Android without Lockscreen

hi to all!
I would like to modify Android in this way :
1) When i'm in the desktop , must be start a count Y and at the finish of Y there must start lockscreen in automatic.
For example( Y=15) after 15 second that i'm on desktop and i don't touch monitor must be start lockscreen
2) when i'm in any application or menu must be start another counter (X ) (when i don't touch monitor) and when X=0 dysplay must be off.
For use dyplay i want to touch monitor and display must go ON .
If possibile i can use:
-SDK developer
or
-MOD rom
or
-tasker.
Is this possibile? use more more battery if i poweroff only monitor?
Where i can do this?
thx!:good:

This would require an app at the very least, more likely, it would require a complete teardown of the android system, editing the code specific to your device and controlling your hardware. Once the screen goes to sleep the touch input is "off", you may be able to mod the system so touching a key will turn on the screen, but I think thats probably the best you'll get.
Sorry guy.

Ok if i can touch the monitor for turn ON i can use a touchkeys?
Do this:
1) When i'm in the desktop , must be start a count Y and at the finish of Y there must start lockscreen in automatic.

For use diplay i want to touch one key(preset / for example search keytouch)and display must go ON .
it's possibile? ther'is any application do this?
Or i can use tasker for do this?
thx
Touch keys would work if you found an app that supports it, or made the mod. As far as tasker or other apps go, I'm not sure, you can search to see if you find what you're looking for:beer:

I've never used tasker, so I'm unfamiliar with it. If you're looking for an app, try the development forums. If you can already do this with tasker, then go for it. I'm sorry I can't be of more help on this matter, I merely explained why you hadn't gotten responses to your OP.

ok thx for reply.
Then android when ggo into lockscreen turnOff display and other task and go into a mod call DeepSleep. into this mode kill more task and reduce use of memory and cpu .
Also Android when turn off display is not possibile turn ON it touching display but is possibile turn on it touching a touchkeys.
But when i only turn off brightness can i turn ON it only touching display?
thx!

Yes and no, if you set it so your phone never sleeps and set your brightness to zero, your phone isn't really "off", so you'd still be using the cpu and processes, not saving any battery life. But you would be able to essentially "wake" your phone by touching the display and turning the brightness back up. This isn't going to give you the results you're looking for though.
To truly do what you want, you'll need a mod, or like I said originally, some sort of app.

ok then turn only off brightness don't save battery.
But if i know which task android kill and use cpu and ram i can kill it when i turn off brightness whitout disable monitor.
This is difficult but in this mode i can re-use the telephone only touching the screen and i save battery..it's ok?
Otherwise:
1.) i don't save battery when i use telephone and i turn off only brightness when i'm in a menu or app , while i'm on the desktop i save battery and i activate lookscreen.
Where can I find an application or a programmer / modder to help me do this?
I have not yet if i can do this using only an application with root permissions or if I need a MOD in the rom ( or MOD in kernel).
thx

Your best bet to find an app or Dev that will do this is to look in the development forums for your phone and in the q&a forums. Best of luck to you, I hope you get it worked out:beer:

[Q] Other ways to turn on/off the screen without using the hardware button

I'm wondering if there's a way (app or manual edit of system files) to make the hardware buttons less used to keep them from getting soft
and for that I'm mainly focusing on the power button as it is frequently used, I have two ideas:
- taking the gesture from the new M8 which is by double tapping the screen, if you're a developer please tell me if it's possible to take that function from the M8 maybe edit it and make it work on the One Max!
- We have a great special thing called fingerprint scanner, and since it's not that good at identifying the owner's fingerprint but always works at identifying fingerprints of people, maybe we can use it to wake up screen by simply swiping the finger over it!
So here is my question and here are my ideas, if you have a good answer for me please share it in the comments!
Thanks XDA!
Also looking for a way to do it, but in my case the reason is my power button stopped working and the only way to wake the device is by plugging a charger. What could I use else before having it fixed by service?
for switching off i use nova launcher with the app "screen off and lock"
DoubleTap on screen now the max going off. (i do this with all phones)
But switching on with doubleTap i always searching how it can work. I have
no idea
my understanding is that without a modded kernel, turning screen ON with touchscreen taps is a no go.
an alternate is to use something like the xposed sense 6 toolkit feature "wake screen with volume buttons". granted it still uses hardware buttons, but at least the power button wont have to take as much "abuse" anymore.
for turning screen off, sense 6 tookit offers gestures on the homescreen. i have mapped swipe down to screen off.
i vaguely remember reading about another xposed mod that can map double tap on status bar to screen off.
just my 2 cents!
edit: i m using another xposed mod called "sense 6 lockscreen mods" that enables double tap to screen off on the lockscreen.

Try WTN by Wolandsoft. Works perfect for me. I was looking for a way to turn on the phone in the car while driving. This works perfectly.
