Nova Thor SoC Dead ? Or still have some Fight left? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

It seems lik the ST microelectronics and Ericsson is breaking up their joint venture and so their mobile chip making plans..
Source : http://www.phonearena.com/news/Chip...-shutdown-as-STMicro-plans-to-quit-JV_id37503
So guyz we will no further see any ST Ericsson Nova Thor SoC chips... Well in my opinion I think nova Thor chips are kick ass.i have used snapdragon before but nova Thor is much snappir for me..what do you think???

Well I just hope they release all their sources for the U8500 before they shut down.....

Nova Thor is just more energy efficient, in every other aspect Qualcomm eats Nova Thor for breakfast man.
Sent from my LT22i using xda app-developers app

Yeah my Qualcomm HP Touchpad can easily play HD files, my U is a stuttery mess, it's an okay chipset, but far from amazing.

They have not broke up completely and they're gonna release the next generation chipset soon

FOR ME.....
NOVATHOR CHIPSET IS VERY GOOD, BUT QUALCOM IS MORE OPEN SOURCE, NOVATHOR chipset MEET YOUR PROMISES ARE GOOD, COMPARED TO N OF I QUALCOM GHz is the same performance, stability, etc., all is in the processor, TOO MUCH ELSE CUENT ...... BUT NO PITY to separate, I am very happy with them ......

Re: ST and Ericsson break up!! No more Nova Thor chips!!
Anyone know whats the overclock limit of novathor chpsets u8500?

Well I prefer Qualcomm more than ARM actually...
just the previous Snapdragon Scorpion does not provide more processing power than ARMv7 Cortex-A9 so I jump from Xperia mini to Xperia sola, however Adreno 205(ICS driver updated version) is better than single core Mali-400(less graphic glitch and render speed is fast)

Mali-400 is the reason why you guys aren't getting jelly bean. It's more powerful, but consumes more RAM as an expense. The irony.

Not really, although benchmark is better than Adreno 205 but gaming experience is bit worse than Adreno 205, at least Adreno 205 provide stable gaming experience but Mali 400 single core got lot of graphic glitch and sometimes in some games fps even worse than Adreno 205

[XPP] : Battery Percentage in ICS

Today my friend came with his Xperia P and told me to update it. GingerBread -> ICS.... I updated it !!! wow It's smoother than my XPS (****), and 490MB of free Ram WTF ? and Battery Percentage is visible as XPT
does anyone having these features in XPP ???
Yes I do.. The ics of Xperia P is much more smoother and faster than Xperia S and I have more free RAM than Xperia S...i can say this bcuz my brother has a Xperia S..the nova thor is a powerful chip like the exynos chips that samsung used in SGS2.. It is a new chip so developers r having trouble figuring it out... That's why development for nova thor is proceeding very slowly..

I have XPERIA P and my brother has XPERIA S and my device feels much smoother than his after the ICS update.

I need urgent hlp regarding x U/Sola!!

I've been observing a lot about xperia u and sola, since the last few weeks I've been watching videos regarding benchmarks of both.
My doubt is xperia Sola is given Mali400 but xperia U is provided with mali400MP ,I've seen in few blogs that mali400MP can perform better compared to mali400 of x Sola,as a gamer can I prefer x Sola over xU interms of performance?
And is GpU in x Sola overclockable?
3 rd is which is better Mali400MP(U) or Mali400(Sola)?
As the abv doubt is cleared
My second doubt is
Is THE MALI400 IN Xperia U/Sola OVERCLOCKABLE????
Both have ABSOLUTELY same gpu
Buy sola as it has expandable memory which is helpful for a gamer
Sent from my ST25i using Tapatalk 2
buy sola if u r a gamer... and both are using same gpu i.e. Mali400... if u want Mali400MP go for xperia P... but it does not have expandable memory slot.. limited 16gb.. i think that is more than enough for gaming.. xperia sola is for Rs19000 and xperia P is for Rs22500... if u can spend few bucks more go for P... ^_^
I agree with previous posts but to elaborate on storage, the 8gb on the U gives you access to only 4gb of that and the 16gb on the P gives you access to apparently 13gb but i only got like 11gb

Isnt the 1080p also to do with camera quality, most 5mp only do up to 720p whereas 1080p is standard for 8mp cams nowadays
thnx a lot!! for ur reply
The only reason I'm asking u is bcoz
In Gsm arena they have stated that "x U has Mali400MP" while "x Sola has Mali400"(only) I've seen sumwhere on fB stating that mali200*2=mali400
Where Mali400MP is a single core true mali400
The l2 cache's differ according to reasons abv
Coz
Mali400MP will have L2 256Kb (single core)
While Mali400(200+200) might be lower than that!
Also can mali400 in X U/Sola be Overclocked????
I'm giving my first priority to s advance!
Coz I've seen it has better hardware (dull looks though )
If xperia P gets under 20K I will surely get one By Jan!
Coz even the online stores state that it is 22~23K

Offcourse adreno220 beats mali400 in nena2 test by 10Fps
Also adreno225 is said to b 2x better in performance compared to adreno220
Which means HTC one s beats xperia p by 3~4x in graphics performance!!
Xperia U and sola have almost same specification. If you hardcore gamer, go to sola because it has sdcard slot.
BUT, go to Xperia U if you want more Custom ROMs.

No jb for xperia sola/u/miro/tipo by sony

Hello everyone,
We’d like to bring you up-to-speed with the latest in our Android 4.1 rollout scheduling.
First up, the upgrade plans* for Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V are progressing as planned – these smartphones will start to receive Jelly Bean during February and March.
Next up, Xperia P, Xperia J and Xperia go will be upgraded from the end of March. Then Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia ion and Xperia acro S will follow in the subsequent weeks.
We’re particularly excited about the Sony Xperia Jelly Bean features and functionality – we look forward to bringing you more information on this in the New Year.
The decision has been taken not to upgrade Xperia U, Xperia miro, Xperia tipo, and Xperia sola beyond Android 4.0.
Feel free to drop a comment below, and keep your eyes on the blog as we’ll be sharing more detailed news/updates as soon as we can.
*Availability and rollout timing will vary by market and customer variants

sony, may you be roasted and toasted in hell with chilli sauce...all eyes now on you XDA.
As xperia go is getting the jellybean update,so i think it can be ported for our sola too 'cause both use the same chipset.
hahaha. EPIC SONY. JB for devices with single core cortex a5 and gpu adreno 200 !!!! NO JB for devices with dual core cortex a9 and gpu mali 400. THAT IS a joke.
why Sony give JB for lower devices like Xperia J?
Sola is a dualcore, is it suitable for JB?

Racial language is not appropriate here on XDA. If you're frustrated you can use that kind of language, but just not here. Cleaned thread
The reason for sola and u not getting it because the Mali 400 takes too much ram and since project butter takes ram for itself, it would be highly problematic

What are the minimum RAM and processor requirements to run ICS and JB?
On which device? Many low-end and high-end devices can run CM9/10.

Show some respect dude it's not a local brand it's the only Indian company making smartphones
And there are no requirement s as such just a jb or ics kernel should be available and decent 250 - 300 ram to make it work
