Hey guys, I'm another newbie who F'ed up their phone here to ask for help lol. I tried to do a restore using the system recovery and it froze, I did a batter pull and soft bricked it I guess. I tried doing a sbf, and I couldn't figure it out but my phone just randomly restarted and it seemed like the sbf worked. So I just tried to restore the data only in advanced recovery and I think it is frozen again. Can anyone please explain how to do a proper restore from the bootstrap recovery? Thanks,

That's exactly what I did and now it says

Restoring Data...

And the progress bar is just not moving and has not even started to fill in.
Am I just impatient? How long should it take, I gave it 15 minutes before I pulled the battery last time, should I wait longer this time?
Plz help

Yes, Affinty.
I'm Working On Uploading The Affinity ROM As A Nandroid File For You To Simply Put On Your SD Card /clockworkmod And Restore Using Mine. Wipe Data/Cache.
Or You've Already Begun The Process Of SBF'ing?

I'm Uploading The Zip Now. Unzip The File Place Into Your clockworkmod/backup Folder. Perform A Restore Like Normal Before Rebooting Wipe Data/Cache To Be Sure Things Load Smoothly.
Perfect thanks!

Ok, do I just did a back up through nandroid to see if I could find a problem, and towards the end, it said something like,
Did not find sdcard-ext
Skipping backup of sdcard-ext
Our something like that, I'm thinking thats a problem, but I have an external sd card.

It Says About 15 More Minutes Until Done.
Couple Key Things Here Is That This Is Fully Deodexed. I Switched The vold.fstab File To Switch SD Card. Stock Messaging App Has Been Replaced With CM6's Latest. I'm Pretty Sure All Authentication Services Have Been Deleted.

Yup Super Is In It, You'll Have To Rerun Yours Again Anyways. Speaking Of Scripts I Also Applied The 3G Turbo. The New GPS, Host, And Profile Files Are Also In This.
Here's The Link To Download It.

THIS IS NOT MY ROM, THIS IS ONLY MY NANDROID BACKUP.
Wow, I Have Too Much Going On That I Failed To Realize All You Need To Do Is Reinstall The Affinity ROM. If It Doesn't Boot Successfully Then Do A Factory Reset.

My phone upon reboot usually gets stuck on a "Sorry! Process system is not responding" "Force Close" or "Wait".
Neither option works and I have to do a battery pull.
It doesn't matter what ROM I use it always happens.
Would someone be able to tell me how to get a log from bootup? And would someone be willing to look at the log for me?
Thanks guys!

I don't mean to sound like a tool by suggesting this, but, have you wiped? Wipe cache and dalvik to start off with see if that works...and if it doesn't do a full wipe and get back to us.
Again, I'm not trying to be a ****...if you are beyond this level of help, well, we're gunna need more details.
i can tell you how to get a log but i cant tell you whats wrong using the log
plug your phone into your computer, using adb type in "adb logcat" and press enter and you should see a whole bunch of text start appearing
before you flash a rom do you do factory resets and make sure to wipe your cache and dalvik cache? that could be the problem..
I have done it all, wiped dalvik, cache, and everything else. I even tried using CWM instead of twrp and the issue remains.
Thanks everyone for trying to help...

If you've done a full wipe and tried different roms then I would be inclined to believe that the issue is likely hardware.

I would use TWRP and do this:
Go into wipe menu, then Wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe data (factory reset). Go into advanced menu (I think) and there should be another wipe menu. Wipe /system. Then flash the ROM of your choice and it should be fixed. Wiping /system manually is the key since some ROMs don't do that (mine does, however)
Thanks ill try the advanced system wipe.

In a word, yes. Are any of these 'bargain' cards you got online by chance? If not and they are from a reputable vendor I would put them in the computer, copy data off and format them....and if that still doesn't help find a 'known good' card and go on from there. The stock card would be preferable, but, if you can't find that a 'known good' card is the next best thing. If the stock card or a 'known' good card doesn't help I'm still inclined to think it's a hardware error...but after hearing about the SDcard I'm leaning towards the phone is fine the card is screwed.

Hey there guys I came across this useful tool today when I was poking around the ARC section it lets you make a nandroid without having to boot into recovery. This isnt my work Im simply passing it on so I hope he doesnt care too much about me posting this here.
***ALL crdeit goes to ameer1234567890***
Nandroid backups are usually performed in recovery mode. This means you would have to turn off your phone and reboot in recovery mode, which wastes a whole lot of time rebooting and a lot more time offline. For me, this has been a killer as I do regular nandroid backups. Having to reboot in recovery and finding missed calls, sms from my wife and friends is totally not accepatable for me. So, I set to develop an online nandroid backup tool which can do nandroid backups without switching off my phone.
Today, I am releasing it to public, as it may serve good for some others too. This tool is specifically for Xperia phones, but should work with any model of android phones.
This tool backups /system , /data , /cache & .android_secure partiotions to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup directory. The date format used for folder name is the same used by CWM itself and nandroid backups created with this tool can safely be restored using CWM. If you would want to have a custom name for backup folder, pass an argument with the name to the script and it will use the name.
Feedback (especially ideas to improve) are most welcome.
Requirements
1. Rooted android phone
2. A terminal emulator installed on phone
3. Busybox
4. A working CWM based recovery installed
5. Some patience
Installation
1. Download and copy zip file to SD card
2. Reboot into recovery
3. Choose install zip from SD card, select zip and flash .
4. Reboot!
Usage
1. Open terminal emulator
2. Type su to obtain root
3. Type onandroid
4. Wait and watch

Any suggestion on how to fix this?

Isn't this inherently flawed since files on the rom are still being used and written while the backup is taking place? Neat idea though, don't get me wrong

I tried to do a restore from the online nandroid backup I made and even though it said "restore complete" my SD-ext(4) partition would not load its shortcuts and widgets. The funny part is link2sd didn't even detect any SD-ext as if it wasn't backed up. I thought it said that it backed up SD-ext during online backup, but not sure. I'm wondering if it might help to factory restore before restoring backup. I may try that to see and I'll report back if noone reports similar problem.
Edit**During backup I was not doing anything else with phone other then watching the amazing online backup screen. Also I tried to "re-create mount scripts" but never got option from link2sd even after reboot.

This tool (prior to v3) does not backup sd-ext partition. In the first post, you can see what the tool backups.
PS: If you can send me a previous backup of your sd-ext, I can work on adding sd-ext backup support to the script.

Not sure if this is what you need,a member here much smarter than I told me this about my E970 when it was unplugged before the backup was made.
In the end these phones are basically unbrickable, so you can always get into download mode (Vol up + Vol down +usb cable +power) and use LGNPST to restore back to stock. LGNPST info can be found on irc
I do not know what irc is but there ya go,google away and hope it works .
I don't completely understand what I'm doing when I'm doing things to my phone. All I know is that some pretty great people with a much better understanding of the inner workings of phones tell me to do this or that. On that note, why are people so quick to say their phone is bricked when they still have a phone that will boot into something? Anyway...
What if you try removing the sd card, use another phone or an adapter for a pc, to download a rom to it. Put it back in your phone boot into recovery and flash it.
Or use that LGPNST, or whatever you call it, method...

If you are in TWRP you could use the file manager under advanced to try and move the .zip to internal memory. Then see if you can flash.
But I always flash from external and never have issues.
You may have a corrupt .zip, maybe try downloading it again and then try again.
I had an issue where my SD card wasn't Fat32 so TWRP wouldn't put anything on the SD or boot anything off the SD. I can't remember if I could browse the folders with TWRP's file manager or not though. That's not much help I know, but might be worth looking into. You can try formatting your SD as Fat32, loading the stock ROM on it, then see if TWRP will flash it.

And I've started getting the too many files open error when I went to run a Nandroid backup last night. UGGG!!!
Either:
I'm doing something wrong,
I've got an app that is doing bad things to my phone,
or my phone is giving out.
I wonder if I've just flashed too much.

My wife has told me if I don't quit "borking" my phone from flashing she's going to buy me an IPhone. The horror!

Then you'll just jailbreak it and so the same
My wife said the same thing but she wouldn't buy me an IPhone, I would just be without a phone

Got it returned to stock, rooted, updated and backed up all before the first period of Playoff hockey was done. Now to flash the latest N3bula during intermission.
As always, Thanks lacoursiere18. I appreciate it
thanks for the post sucks about this news. You all said you think it is recovery related? and not browser related.
