[Q] Did I brick internal storage/SD card? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So I just got back from a trip to Vegas, went to upgrade MeanROM from 6.3 to 6.5, and then my SD card would not mount and my internal storage is not showing. I've tried numerous things to try and fix this, by mounting SD and formatting it (Fat32, quick format off), unplugging and plugging in the SD Card, using a different one. No matter what I do, using TWRP 2.1.8 doesn't recognize the SD card and gives a repeated
E: failed to mount /sdcard (invalid argument).
E: Unable to mount /sdcard
Any tips?

Old Twrp ya got....use Goomanager and update...see if that might fix it

Can't even get GooManager to put anything in system cause it defaults to SD card

?? Goomanager install the recovery to the boot partition...you did click menu/ Install OpenRecoveryScript ???

Try flashing CWM recovery and seeing if that helps? My first guess would be to format your internal but since you've already done that I would default to blaming TWRP

CMW is known to damage misc partitions

I just had a similar problem and the only lasting solution was to relock the bootloader, RUU, and reroot. It's easy and the newest RUU isn't difficult to reroot.
I was able to reformat in the internal SD a few times using a PC (before I ran the RUU that is) but it only lasted a reboot or two before re-corrupting. I wish I had just RUU'd from the beginning and not wasted effort with all the reformatting.

Cant flash zip files anymore

I wiped everything, re-partioned sd-card and tried to install a new ROM..
But something have happend..
After i re-patrioned / wiped... and flash the rom (have tried a lot of ROM's now) i get errors..
Install from sdcard
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/Cronos-2-0J_.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
Happends now on every rom i install, have already tried again to re-partion.
What is the most basic way to re-partion ? settings i mean?
Anyone know what could be the problem..
The zip files cant be corrupt either.
* I also noticed that if i upload a ROM-file, then re-partion and wipe everything..
The rom is still on the sd-card..
I then deleted the rom from sdcard and re-partion again, and still..even duo i already deleted the file.. its there?
Maybe it is because of the SD Card.. So if you have another one try it
I had this same problem i had to do a full format of the SD card then all worked fine never had the problem again strange
If you ecejt the SD card before its done (or eject it wrong) you may and up with a bad file.
What you could do is:
Format your SD card.
Then put a rom on it.
Then go to my pc, and find ur card, then right click and select eject
Yea something strange with your sdcard.
Try as they stated above. Remove the sdcard from your phone. Insert it back in.
Try to reformat it with a different sdcard setup like: no swap, no ext only fat32.
Then check if the card is still behaving the same if not good. If so maybe the sdcard is just defect?
Good Luck.

same issue here, solved this way.
Did you flash an exotic recovery image by any chance?
You can always reflash 1 back by pushing it to /cache/ and flashing from there.
A radical way to overcome this would be to delete the partition table on your SDcard and let your current rom reformat it.
Im bumping my own thread.. Last time i bought a new sdcard..
Now this **** have happend again.. I get the same error as before!
How should i do this? Is there any other way then whats posted now?
Happens on all Roms
This is quite obvious but you make no mention of what recovery image is on you sd card?
I assume you saved the old image you were using and put it back on your sd card
Yes,maybe you recovery image is damaged.
Try to install again!
It sounds like your sd card is not actually partitioning since the rom is still on the sd card. To partition the sd manually try this:
I'm going to assume the following:
You are using Amon Ra recovery
You have not downloaded Clock Work recovery
You can still get into recovery using Amon Ra
You have SDK and JDK installed
You're using windows
Plug your phone into the computer. Open a command prompt (hit start and type cmd and press enter). Direct it to read from the tools directory of sdk " cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools" for most people. Now follow the directions from this how-to http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/. Stop after step 4 and type "quit" unless you plan on repartioning your sd card (in which case, choose which partitions you wish to make). Move the new rom you want to boot to the sd card and try again.

[Q]E:can't mount /sdcard/

After using Odin, I have this problem
'E:Can't mount /Cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /Cache/recovery/log....'
Then I wipe it. It is success.
But when I choose zip from sdcard
It said E:can't mount /sdcard/
How can I solve it?
I can't boot my gs2 now!
Answer me please
Just try to reflash with odin most of the times this solves the problem.
if not try another firmware (rom)

I can't boot and can't read my internal sd, how can I flash another rom?
Using CWM, you can mount /sdcard.
Check mounts and storage menu.
Also try "Mount Usb storage", connect to pc and check if comp detects your phone.

Try flashing one of the rooted kernels using Odin.

Currentlyhaving the same issue.
This is a kernel issue. It happened to one of the 2.x Siyahkernel beta versions. Simplest solution is to boot the phone and use CWM to flash a different kernel using the tar format (instead of the zip format good for use in recovery mode) (flash a kernel version that's known to be without this problem).
If you can't get past the boot screen, just use odin. But then if you can't get past the boot screen you probably need to flash a ROM over anyway.
I am having the same issue with my internal SDCARD
I cannot access my internal SDCARD. When I insert my external (/removeable) sdcard, recovery sees that as the SDCARD.
I have tried to mount/ dismount/ usmount the internal SDCARD - same error.
THIS is the TMOBILE T989 and we got it yesterday - brand new.
So, I did get it to work from the removeble SDCARD, but I am so use to using the internal SDCARD on my VIBRANT as the primary resource for ROMS, etc, and the external SDCARD as a backup - that it is kinda strange to work now with only one SDCARD (the ext).
It must be something in the recovery that does not see the primary SDCARD...
CAn anyone help, please?
Note that CWM 4 and CWM 5 behave differently with respect to internal and external sd cards (well CWM 4 simply doesn't do external sd card). It'd be your best interest to flash a kernel that comes with a CWM version 4.x.x and for sure internal sdcard will work.
In CWM4, internal sdcard is /sdcard. External card is /emmc. (you can only format external sdcard but not write to it nor mount it.
In CWM5, you can restore nandroid backup from internal sdcard (but you can flash updates from both) . And in the CWM app, default backup location is the external sdcard.
Those who are having problems with CWM 5, flash this version of CWM from your CWM!
http://www.mediafire.com/file/h1yia0gt1sbnbie/cwm-4.0.1.5.zip
You will have cwm 4.

[Q]

I think I stupidly posted this in the General forum, so hopefully I'll have better luck here. Here's what I wrote before:
Hi, I'm trying to unbrick USB on my Atrix using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751265 but every time I try and use the fastboot command 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' I get 'FAILED error:00120000'.
I am really tearing my hair out! failing this, would flashing via fastboot fix this error? I tried reflashing using fastboot with the CM9 ROM I had handy but adb didn't like it (my installation is borked you see, I can get into recovery but can't reflash the ROM 'cause my sc cards can't be read...so I'm in a bit of a vicious circle here).
If anyone can help I would be so grateful.
Which recovery are you using atm?
Hey,
I'm using ROM Racers custom ROM, from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
Would that make a difference?
That's a recovery, not a ROM. derp
Just messing with ya. But if you have Romracer's recovery you should be able to mount your storage from within recovery. There should be a "mounts & storage" option in the menu. That should allow your computer to read the card and/or internal as usb storage. Or, if you have a card reader you can put the necessary files on your sd card that way.

Yeah thanks but I know this...Ok, here is my problem: I can't mount the internal or external card in recovery, it comes up with ERROR: can't mount / emmc and Error: can't mount / sdcard . I can't mount either card on the PC either and as described in trying to fix the USB connectivity it comes up with the 0x120000 described above in fastboot. On top of that the installation of my ROM is borked (which was Jokersax's ICS beta but I have several others on file I could use)...so I can't reflash the handset. ALL I can do is get into recovery - and a fat lot of good that is doing me!
On top of all that, the reason I ended up like this seemed to be when I erased the internal memory card from my Mac...and this was out of pure frustration fro the mysterious random reboot issue, for which I'd tried almost everything else. But one step at a time eh?
So if anyone can help I'd be really glad right now...
Do you have a card reader? Have you tried formatting the sd card (either through recovery or through the computer using "mounts & storage")? Do you have another sd card that you can try?
Can you be more specific as well? When exactly are you getting the "error" and have you tried "mount usb storage" option in "mounts & storage"? Do you only have a Mac or do you have access to a Windows computer?

Ok, I cannot mount the sd card in any way, either through recovery or on the PC.* the SD card is fine as it the phone registered the card as empty (and read the empty card fine) until it started refusing to read anything at all.* Mount USB storage option definitely does not work (it was working and then it stopped)
*
The error comes from trying the USB unbrick solution (link in my original post at the top)...in fastboot I am trying 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' and then in red writing the ERROR 0x120000 (or whatever it was, it's above) appears on the screen of the Atrix and in the command line box on the PC (I am using my windows 7 laptop for all this btw, don't want to confuse you with my mentioning of the Mac above).
*
So...I either need a way to flash from Fastboot so I can get a working system again at least AND/OR I need to fix the USB connectivity (so I can mount the internal/external card on my PC) and fix the mounting in the Atrix itself.* If I can fix the mounting issue (both mounting within Recovery and mounting on the PC) I can then reflash (and use my SD cards again).
*
Any ideas?
I would think reflashing a newer recovery fron fastboot might help you with your problem if your current recovery is borked. (CWM 5.8.1.8 maybe?)
Ok, so I have installed the CMW touch recovery over fastboot...and I can now mount the external SD card. I have also managed to erase the external SD card using fastboot (fastboot erase sdcard) but the phone still can't see it. The internal memory is untouchable either through recovery or fastboot

Try a fastboot -w command and flash a new ROM from the external see if it works. It would be easier if we knew what caused you to have this problem...
Right, some good news...I have managed to partition my SD card from recovery (only to 4 gigs though but it's a start...), managed to put my and now I am rebooting as I type...although it's taking a long time to reboot...
Maybe I should do a fastboot -w first

Yeah it's still not booting, even though I installed the rom from recovery.
Thinking back my troubles started when a) I wiped both the internal and external to fat 32 from my Mac and then b) I converted all file systems to ext4 from the advanced menu. Yeah, that may be it...

Failed to mount /sdcard in TWRP

I had originally run RegawMOD rooter on 1.13.651.1 and the phone ran great. Yesterday, I decided to do LazyPanda S-OFF and then try out some of the 1.22.651.3 ROMs. LazyPanda said everything completed successfully. I went into TWRP, wiped System/Cache/Dalvik, then went to install a ROM but it failed because it couldn't mount sdcard2. I read through the LazyPanda thread and noticed that there were sometimes data loss issues with the SD card - no biggie, I had all my data backed up. I didn't have an adapter on hand to hook up the SD card directly to the computer, so I went out and picked up a SD card + adapter combo.
Today, I put the brand new SD card into the device and boot into TWRP; however TWRP takes a long time to boot. I look at the console spew and there are a bunch of "E:failed to mount /sdcard (invalid argument)" errors and even a "E:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)" one. Of course, this is the internal memory. I'm pretty sure I didn't see these errors last night, so I'm not sure what happened between then and now.
So my question is: how do I get back to a usable state? I don't care about losing any of the data (it's backed up elsewhere), I just need a working phone.

I have had this problem before. It started when I booted twrp without my external ad card, then when I put it back in it recognizes it but it somehow got the sd ext mixed up with int sd so it tried to write roms to the ext sd,no matter how many times I reset it to recovery its still the same. The only solution I have found was to re-flash twrp I was using 2.18 or something now on 2.2 and I would recommend it. Here's how I fixed it easy. Downloaded evo 4g lte toolbox from the lte dev forum (not sure if its the orig forum or not),installed and opened toolbox, installed HTC drivers from toolbox, restart my phone in bootloader (vol-d+power) went into fastboot and clicked on push recovery from toolbox, reset into recovery and viola everything mounts properly. I am htcdev unlocked and I'm not sure if its different when your s-off. You should still be able to push recovery from fastboot. Let me know if this works

When in recovery touch mount and then touch external card so there is an x in the box then back out then touch the second choice thing with like two or three dots and select sdcard. that is what I did
PS: TOUCH SO THERE IS A DOT NEXT TO USING EXTERNAL SDCARD AT THE BOTTOM - THEN BACK OUT AND DO ABOVE.
No internal memory

So are you saying you completely unrooted your phone and went back to step one to fix this problem? I am trying to get my internal memory back myself.
if this happens again, there have been reports that mounting your phone to windows while in TWRP and formatting it will fix the issue. no need to RUU...but atleast it fixed your problem :victory:

[Q] boot looping problems, can't access recovery and install zip from SD card (solved)

A while ago, I decided to work on my old legend and upgrading it with new custom roms.
After factory reset, I have flashed CM10 rom from here and discovered my Hboot version is 0.43 and not compatible with this rom.
So I found this rom instead and made 3 different partitions as instructed. But I have discovered that my phone have lost ability to go to recovery mode during the process and cannot recognize the zip files from SD card although its still in there. I have reformatted the SD card again with one fat32 to see if its problem with partitioning but it is still having same problem.
I can see the red triangle with ! in it and selected "Apply sdcard:update.zip" which keeps giving me error message "E:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) Invalid argument"
Is there any solution to get out of this situation?
Thank you for your patience

I have followed this thread and I got an error message saying failed due to low battery. I will just charge the phone for a while and see if it gives same error.
I have done the fastboot recovery method from here and its keep giving me "failed (remote: not allowed)" messages.
my Legend is already rooted and currently on S-off.
I have solved the problem.
It was memory card problem. my legend works after installing CM7 using different SD card.
I am suspecting if its because I have messed up something with memory card while dividing partitions to install a Jelllybean rom,
However the faulty memory card is still functioning well on my pc which made me think there is no problem with it.
