Does Sammy have global warranty like HTC?
I bought my S3 in Netherlands, cant find a receipt and live in Israel (when my bro's Sensation digitizer died he just sent it w/o receipt to HTC).
I also used it "naked" for the ~6 months I had it, so it has scratches and "dents" on the display/silver rim, add to it root and a custom rom and im not sure they will repair it under warranty even If I can still somehow find where to send it.
HALP PLOX! (Where to send it, If I even can and should bother? etc)

Dont even bother, they wont fix it , warranty does not cover scratches anyway ...

They wont fix my "Sudden Death" (dead mobo) because of them scratches you say?
As i understand from many past posts Samsung does not have world wide warranty .
Best is to ask a local Samsung service .

You will have global warranty if you are buying the phone in Hong Kong.

S3 sudden death question
I put my phone on charge and it just died.I had it rooted at one point, but now its unrooted and running some sort of official version of jelly bean.I downloaded it from galaxys3root.com or something and it was supposedly the official polish version.
I'm wondering if my phone is covered by warranty because of this sudden death incident.
Please reply asap.
I'm in Germany
(I'm not 100% sure which version of jelly bean i had because i wasn't able to update using samsung kies through my computer)

Hey guys, this may be stupid question, although I have searched and can only find references to the fact that this voids the O2 warranty. The phone is not rooted.
I have just used the brilliant instructions on thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064894&page=12
to debrand my new Galaxy S2, however it was on O2 and I know it effectively voids the O2 warranty. However does it affect the Samsung Warranty? It is effectively as if I bought a Sim Free phone from Amazon or something so would I be able to use the Samsung warranty? Assuming that I didnt rebrand it back to O2.
Meant to say after I posted last night I connected the phone up to the PC with Kies and it is recognised and offers me a Samsung update. So the instructions work a treat and seem to make it an unbranded Sim Free phone, but I dont know whether Samsung would see it that way if I had to return it for some problem. I assume they would be able to tell that the Firmware/Kernal or whatever had been changed.
Cheers guys - you'll have to bear with me I have read the forum for ages (since my Samsung Omnia 2) but have never posted on any forum!
I would be interested in this topic too. Anybody knows?
This might be one of those things that is affected by, for example, the way EU regulations work.
From what I remember, its something like you have by default the manufacturer's warranty (usually 1 year, sometimes 6 months). But as per EU regulations, electronic devices have 2 years defect warranty, but with the retailer, not the manufacturer.
I could be very wrong.
Back to the point. If what I said is correct, this would mean you still have your Samsung warranty, technically. You would lose the O2 one. But I'm not sure what Samsung's position is regarding firmware flashes from anything other than KIES. They will be able to tell by checking the IMEI that your phone was originally O2 branded, so they'll know you flashed a new firmware.
This is largely irrelevant however, as unless your warranty issue breaks the phone entirely, you just reflash the O2 firmware back then send it to O2 and even if you rooted, a £4 micro-usb jig off ebay (which is a 301k resistor in the right pins) will erase any record of custom flashes
As per the last post keep a copy of original firmware .
Rooting voids warranty by Samsung see letter on Samfirmware .
Debranding retailer is at liberty to decline warranty but that will depend upon who sees the phone and if they are bothered about Samsung stock rom .
Custom rom no warranty full stop .
Stock Samsung rom you should find Samsung honour the warranty .
Plenty have had stock rom and or custom rom fixed but also some have been turned away judged on a vast number og Samsung Galaxy user posts .

I did wonder whether it would be an issue for Samsung as it is their standard firmware. It is said above that they would know from the IMEI which was sent to O2, but I think O2 were issuing debranded phones for the first couple of months, so would that be the only way they could tell? I am not hugely up on this but am wondering if there are any other ways for Samsung to tell as the phone is effectively a debranded SIM Free Galaxy S2 which can be bought from Play or Amazon.
The Samsung warranty according to what I can find on the Samsung website is 24 months for a mobile, although that seems to be limited down to 12 months of a useful warranty. I really ask because I have one for my sister which I now dont want to give her and was going to sell as Debranded Sim Free!?!
O2 issued BRANDED unlocked phones not unbranded .
Samsung are more than likely not going to check phones IMEI relative to original provider as long as you have a receipt for the phone from an authorized Samsung outlet .

I've had a look around the forums but can't find an answer to this particular situation, firstly my SGS2 died on me the other day, had recently been charged but it was off when i pulled it out my pocket, nothing would bring it back, tried numerous chargers, friends batteries, download/recovery mode. Nothing. From what i've read online, this is something on the motherboard that has fried.
Now i was running an official Samsung rom, but i think i did have Cyanogen on this phone once (i say think, it might have been my previous phone). Let's say i did and the flash counter is reporting this, will samsung warranty know this, since the phone is probably in need of a new motherboard? Thanks if anyone knows!
(I'm in the process of sending it back now so i guess i'll find out soon enough.)
One other thing, while searching the forums i'm seeing a lot of people with the S2 saying they are out of warranty, but according to this, Samsung have 24 month warranties on mobile devices, surely if the S2 only came out in 2011, there shouldn't be any that are out of warranty yet, or does this differ from country to country?
(can't post the link due to new member policy, you can get it by searching "samsung warranty")
I actually dont know the time of my warranty. In Germany you have two years by law (if the device was faulty from the beginng, to put it shortly) and maybe a guarentee from samsung. Anyways, normally the samsung guys simple repair it and dont question your xda experience, even if your counter says OMG he flashed it. :good:
I'm sure it will be OK, Samsung have been excellent so far in dealing with my problem, i've already got my pre-paid padded envelope sent out and an apologetic letter
if your phone is dead and need a new motherboard, it does not matter what the counter says.
warranty is different from country to country depending on who you bought the phone from.
Mods - please move if in incorrect forum.
I was charging my GS3 and after unplugging it, I proceded to turn tethering on, and then put it in my pocket for 5 seconds. I took it out and it had turned off by itself. I cant turn the GS3 back on, either by the power button or using recovery mode. I have tried removing battery for a minute and then holding the power button for 20 seconds but no luck. Nothing at all happens when i plug the charger in, and I have left it in for 30 minutes and the device still wont boot.
Can anybody sugest what I can do to boot the device?
I have had no previous problems like this and im running stock firmware with no root. Im using a mac and not partitioned the drive to install windows and then odin, but I can do so if required.
What firmware are you using in this phone ? (Number if you can find it).
What is the phone ? Galaxy S3 International (GT-I9300) with 16GB inside ?
Perhaps a Sudden Death Symdrom for you with a total death...
Read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133401
First try another charged battery, yours may have just failed. Also check the battery terminals aren't bent or broken.
If it is still dead with a known good battery then looks like a warranty repair is required.
I cant find out the firmware unless I can get back on the phone :/ Yes its an I9300...
The bttery, I will try and find another GS3 owner but I dont think I can find any. Ill have a look into the thread also thanks for the info

I dont understand what that means? I installed an official firmware from on here 7 months ago when I left the UK and have not done anything to my phone since then.

Some device (Galaxy S3 with 16GB of internal storage memory) have a problem with the memory chip. So, if you are running a Jellybean 4.1.2 firmware, samsung have fix the bug and you are cover (so it's not a SDS problem).
But if you phone have an old firmware, you may be affected by this trouble. If it's your case, the unique solution is to put your phone on a repair center.
first, try a different battery. if that fails - send it to service for a motherboard replacement

Ive tried using a different battery and that doesnt seem to work either. The other GS3 works perfectly fine with my battery inside which suggests its a problem with my handset...
How can i find a dealer to send my unit to? I used to flash custom ROMs to the device but went back to stock 7 months ago when I left the UK to travel Australia, and did not reset the binary counter so it wont be covered by warranty
Since its dead they can't see binary counter. Best bet, send it to friend in uk for samsung repair...
I assume you have some sort of electronic copy of a receipt?

Ive currently got my mum looking for the physical receipt. I could try and get an electronic proof of useage from Vodafone who I bought the phone from but problably not a "receipt".
Dont really want t send my phone back to the UK, it wil be expensive and Im not sure when im returning home, so it may be quicker/cheaper to either take home myself or to try get it sorted here :/

If it's a contract phone, contact vodafone directly, probably won't need a receipt.
Is shipping a small package that expensive? Cheaper than a motherboard I bet

Yeah its a contract phone so thats good news
Shipping my phone would be expensive as I would have to have buy insurance, maybe $20 or something?

Cheaper than £150 GBP / $250 AUD for a used motherboard then Which by having it fitted, will void your 2 years EU warranty
Yeah, you are right. I think im just going to wait until I get back to the UK in a few months and send it off. I would get it done when i go to Asia next week but I am not staying in one place long enough - im guessing it would take a few weeks from sending it in to getting it back?
Also, I dropped my phone a few month back and the screen is all damaged but still useable. Samsung will still fix the problem I take it and not refuse to due to the damaged screen?
I ****ed up with a custom rom and the screen is bricked (touchpad won't work at all no matter what rom I install).
I bought the phone during a trip to China, but I live in France right now and I would like to pay for a new motherboard.
On the Samsung France website, it says they don't accept phones bought outside Europe for warranty. I don't have a warranty so, I don't really care. I just want to pay for a new motherboard and get this damn phone fixed.
Is it possible in your opinion ? Thank you very much for your insight!

if it is not a chinese copied GS3, you have the chance of getting a new mother board. but if it is, just buy a genuine GS3.

It definitely isn't a fake GS3, double checked that before buying!
However they should do a paid for repair no problem if not then use another repair centre .

Why do u want to replace yr mobo when yr digitizer(touchscreen) is not working??? The touch screen comes together with the LCD and the frame as well its easy to change makes yr phone brand new again I changed mine. Don't try to just replace the glass although some has succeeded albeit a small percentage. Goodluck

Yeah well, I'll give it to Samsung and get it repaired so, I don't know too much about the details. If it's the screen then perfect!
I rooted and flashed a rom on my I9300 Galaxy S3. I recently had the sudden death issue where my phone won't turn on or charge after it froze. Since i cannot do anything to my phone i won't be able to unroot it and lock the bootloader. So should i bother send my phone to samsung or will they say that i voided the warranty and they cannot do anything.
Thanks. I think its a physical issue within the phone and wondering if it stops me from being able to submit a request.

if you would have had a look at the guides you would know, it def. voids warranty, despite the EU ruling which says rooting does not void it, whereas the limited warranty of manufacturers is not included in this ruling if I am not wrong. you can try sending it in though, what you gonna loose?

then keep your brick or try to get it fixed at some 3rd party shop if they can
Why would you want to unlock the bootloader ???
That leads to the question do you actually have a I9300 .
Suggest you actually take the time to read the faqs and guides.
If it is SDS then you need a new motherboard .
If it is SDS Samsung will repair under warranty but may reject warranty due to rooted phone .

Yea i have a i9300. Its rooted and has a custom rom flashed on it. Im pretty sure its affected by SDS as it shares the same symptoms. Can't do anything to the phone and i have warranty left. I might just try my luck and bring it to Samsung.
