[Q] exFAT and ext2/3/4 on same microSD? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, i want to partition my microSD card to both exFAT and ext2/3 or 4 in order to be able to have large movies on it (larger than 4gb) and use Link2sd for games that are eating my internal memory.
HOW can i do that? Is it possible?

Help! Increase Partition Size

Hi, is it possible to increase the size of the partition where the apps are located? in other devices like my iPad I can use the total amount of disk space for apps but in my Galaxy SII if I want to have lot of apps I have a small 2gb partition. Do you know a solution? I need more space for apps...
Thanks!
Are you talking about the internal or external (SD card) disk?
I think the internal disk space is fixed to a custom partition, but if you're using App2SD or any similar script with a partition inside the SD card, you can repartition that partition to fix your needs without problem with any partition editor (like GParted).
I'm talking about the internal memory of the SII ... In other gadgets like Apple we have the entire disk space to install applications if we like.
Do you know a method to increase the space of the app partition? I think that is not a great solution to depend of an SD card, we have a lot of memory on the phone. I don't know why samsung have limited to 2GB the data partition, I think is too small...
Any idea about resize the partitions of internal memory?

Don't know if its possible atm...
What do you have installed that you need +2Gb for apps? Have you considered moving some apps to SD?
/data partition has 2Gb
/sdcard has 8Gb
Both partitions are from the internal memory so moving any app from /data to /sdcard won't affect your speed, since both are internal memory...
PS: Despite the name, /sdcard is internal and /sdcard/external_sd is the external SD Card mounted on the phone.
Hi! AzureusPT thanks for your help... The problem is when I try to move to Sd card a message appears saying that I have to insert an SD Card... so I think that is not possible to move applications to /sdcard internal memory.
Do you know another method?

sd card means micro sd card.. the /sdcard is the internal sd card w/c you can store data internally.. external sd card is your memory card.. the way android works is (or sgs2) has 3 partitions, 500+ for rom, 2gb for applications and tge rest for storage.. for games like gameloft which has huge amount of data, the installer itself is in thr 2gb partition while its data is stored in the 11gb + partition.. so no need to worry about running out of space

[Q] Formatting the Internal SD

CM9 / ICS
I'm looking to find out how in the heck to install apps into the phone's internal SD partition.
To free up internal memory, I know you can format a microSD card into an EXT and FAT partition. Then you link apps using link2SD, freeing up more internal memory and storing most data on the microSD card, in the EXT partition.
I'd like to do exactly this, but with the internal SD partition acting as the microSD card. That is, format the internal partition into FAT and EXT, then use link2SD to link to the new EXT partition on the internal SD card.
Minitool Partition Wizard just will not do it. How is this possible? Is this even possible??

[Q] SD Card Partition Problem

Link2SD
The XPERIA X10i running GB 2.3 is a bit problematic with partitions.
The OS only mounts the first partition it finds and that's normally the second partition. Doh!!
The following patch may be of some help to you
SE2.3.3-link2sd-patch.zip
It is assumed you have formatted both partitions as primary.
Everybody should use Link2SD if they have an XPERIA X10, just because most quality class6/class10 cards have better read/write speed than internal flash and with a 1-2GB sdext2 partition more space too.
Considerations
I'd format the second partition as ext3 and 2GB if Link2SD is to be used, especially if a gamer.
I would only use a class6/class10 'quality' 32GB microSD card or greater.
Copy the contents of the /data/sdext2 partition to a NAS/external server
(1) I'd format the partition to be used with Link2SD as ext3 ( I've found on my builds I can't use ext4, but would, if I could ), just because it'll give better performance. In a gaming environment 1GB can be used up pretty quickly if libraries and data are linked too.
(2) The cost of quality class6/class10 microSD cards has really dropped in price now that extreme and extreme pro cards (50MB+ write) are all the rage. It's just a pain having to rebuild a working Link2SD environment onto a larger card at a later date, when a lesser card, no longer meets needs.
But given I'm using a 64GB card, I would say that.
(3) If you copy the contents of the second partition to a linux system /folder it makes a great recovery, as you only have to restore the Link2SD second partition and you get all your apps back, data and all. I copy my /data/sdext2 partition onto my NAS every now and then and it has saved my bacon a few times when microSD/SD cards have gone belly up.

[Q] Best format for 32gb SD Card

What is the best partition format (NTFS, Ext2/3/4, FAT32, etc) for a 32gb External SD Card?

Try NTFS because it provides more space. FAT32 is by default.

Extending phone memory

On my Samsung S5 dual SIM (G900FD) running Android 6.0.1, I have an external SD card (128 Gbytes) with a lot of files.
In order to increase the memory of the phone I have reduced the size of the fat32 partition of the external SD and I have created an ext3 partition (10 Gb) on it (using gparted on my PC).
My question:
Is there a way to extend the phone memory with the new ext3 partition on the SD card, WITHOUT erasing files on the phone or on the fat32 partition of the external SD card ?
Thanks you for your support.
