[Q] Internal storage - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have a problem with my Legend's internal storage. I used Link2SD and moved all my apps to my SD-card. When I download something från Play Store, it says that the memory is full :S ... Even if I used Link2SD, it says that the memory is full. When I look at internal storage memory, it says that only 35 MB is available and that I used 150 MB .. Any help? Why is my phone doing this to me?

In the internal storage are not only the apps, there are also the cache, the Dalvik cache and the app-data. The Dalvik-cache and app-data you can't delete, but you can search in the google-market for an app like this to clear the cache.

Nope still the same :/

Cmon someone ?

Open Link2SD, Create Link all apps you can. Some app you can't Create Link, update these app and try to link again.
Recomend: Check auto link in setting of Link2SD

1 if you don't create ext, link2SD won't work, every app lies in inter storage
2I use a2SD. first of all , you have to backup your SD , then, create the ext on SD
because my rom has 63m spare,if an app needs to ran in inter storage ,I will use Titanuimbackup to move it to rom

Clockwork mod recovery will create an ext3 partition as well as the standard fat32 when you use the format SD card feature. When the option for 'swap' comes up select or type 0 (you don't need swap partition I believe)...
As you should already be aware if you format your SD card you will lose everything so copy it all to a PC first then copy it back again.

]Gonna try it out now
EDIT: Okey so I did 125 MB ( I think ) and did 0 swap. Is 125 little or should I do 265 MB ?
When I started Link2SD it asked me something about mounting and there some options too, like ext2, ext3 and someting fat32 and I picked ext3. Did I do right ?
Look at this screenshot, did create an ext och did format SD-card, look at my internal memory I have no app installed except Link2SD and it says that i've used 130 MB :s

Woohoo well done you have success, you have your ext partition. Just make sure in link2sd to turn on auto link in the settings to "link" your apps and stuff to the ext.
Edit: oh just noticed it says ext2 on your screen shot gotta check mine now... mine says ext2 even though I know its ext3....
My ext partition is the 500mb setting (lots of space)

You got one more thanks
But if I want to change my ext partition to 500 mb, how do I remove current ext partition?

redo the process and just select the higher value.

Advice: get rid of the ext partition (do that on your pc), format your card and start over againg with partitioning. Use CWM for that. Do NOT partition your card without deleting the existing ext partition. you will end up with two ext, your phone will not understand that.
500MB at least for ext space, gives you plenty of room for apps, cache etc.

If anyone has trouble installing A2EXT or A2SD, or simply don't have an SD card class 9000! then S2E is for you.
S2E is an application .apk you download from the Android Market, set what you want to go on your SD card, and that's IT!
No scripts, no errors.. no hassle.
::Note:: You must have your SD card partitioned.. which you can do with "Rom Manager"

I think that I....I....I love you. lol
This only works with CM7, not with other ROM like Salsa Slide. Not testing with other ROM so don't know if it works. However, this soft is pretty good.

Anyone using that on the slide? Can you use it on top of darktremmor?
Ooh I remember this.
I saw it on the XDA Portal back when it got posted. Worked pretty well.
Just reporting back with my results......
Works Perfectly!!!! Thank you again!
This is on the latest nightly (#142 - Android 2.3.5 O.C. to 844Mhz)
I started using this on both my N1 and my Slide about 3 months ago. Never a problem. DT is buggy and seems to be in perpetual beta development. Good post OP.
*I've only used this with cm7*
ive never had apps2sd before and wow that was easy. shweet.
Wonderful app!!!
Has anyone gone from one nightly to another with this? Did it stick?
Hi all. I've partitioned my SD card using rom manager with a 512 mb ext partition and a 30 mb swap vol, yet when I got to S2E, I see no space on my ext partition. Any special changes that I need to do to the settings in the app or something else I might be missing? Thanks.

This is kinda strange...try partitioning straight from the recovery menu, I used ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5 and it worked great (I like this version because you can manually adjust how big you want the ext partition while ROM Manager and ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7 only let you go up to 512 mb)
Thanks guys, for some reason Rom Manager hadn't actually partitioned the whole thing. It made my regular sd partition smaller and left what would be the ext partition and swap patition sizes alone. It just didn't create them. So I erased my sd card and retried to partition through rom manager and it worked. I'm on 2.5.0.7.
Glad it is working for you, it is a great app.
had the partition on my card already, but never got around to using it - found the scripts to be too much. this was EASY AS PIE! however, my apps was only 17mb. my davlik cache was 64mb, so that was nice to move. i've now got 100mb free. i was able to reload some apps i recently removed because i was hovering ~15-20mb. this is surely a great app

You dont have to have sd-ext. It is optional. U can move your apps to sd without that. U can use App2sd, A2sd, Link2sd etc. But with sd-ext u can move all apps for one partiotion. Sd-ext can be your "internal storage". But it can have more space. For example 512MB or 1024MB depending of your SD.

second partition does not created aytomatically dude. You first have to partition sd form within CWM. What Link2sd does is to create the mount script for sd-ext meaning what file system the sd-ex partition should be.
Check apps instructions here https://market.android.com/details?...?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5idWFrLkxpbmsyU0QiXQ..
It says Link2SD does not create the second partition, you need to create it yourself. You can use any partition manager such as Minitool, Paragon, Easeus etc. for this.
Do some search before posting on xda...there are many thread explaining the same thing..here is ur answer..
Use Mini Partition tool widzart for the same..do some google for that...
a) First partition should be FAT32 (Primary)
b) Second should be ext4 (Primary)
Just remember..both partition should be primary...
Widows does not recongnise ext partition..so properties for ur SD card will be reduced by ext space...hope this this what you are looking for...

[Q] unable to move/install applications to sd

Hey guys i have been unable to move/install apps to my sd card ever since changing to MIUI I'm not sure whether this is a problem with the ROM or not (i think i may have insalled applications to SD on a previous GB version of MIUI)
I am using a rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 with the latest MIUI based on 4.0.4. before MIUI i was on CM7 stable and i remember messing around with some settings there to try and get my phone to read music off the sd card as well as internal memory-(where all my downloaded music was going). I also may have done a dodgy partition on my old 32gb micro sd or some how partitioned my internal storage of my phone...
I have recently successfully partitioned my Sandisk 64gb micro SDXC to this tutorial...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343187
when i go to move a 'moveable' app eg. Paypal through 'Link2Sd' it comes up with an error saying "pkg:/data/app/com.paypal.android.p2pmobile-1.apk Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_CONTAINER_ERROR]
when i go to move a 'moveable' app through 'App 2 SD Pro' it says 'couldn't move app'

this last picture was taken before i partitioned my SD
if you guys have an suggestions please let me know
try to format ur sd and repartition ur sd ext. and flash ur script again.
u may try amarullz "ad2sdx" or dk_zerocool "mount2sd" script...
did you try Titanium Backup to move those apps?
also u can do in adb shell "pm setinstalllocation 2"
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
when you partition the sd card doesn't it format it then? I repartitioned my SD card still the same problem.
I also went to back up my current rom today through 'ROM manager' and it said something along the lines of...
SD card mounted...
SD card space free: 30437MB
............(can't remember)
...No SD_EXT found
something something...checking MD5 sums
It then waited a little bit and rebooted without creating a backup. I then booted into CWM and tried doing a back up again. It came up with the same relative message as above but it decided to make a back up. The back up folder had 7 files in it (this seems normal to me) and also backed up to my micro SD which is new
Today i also tried moving apps with titanium backup. It moved them effortlessly or so i thought and then later i checked the SD card on the computer the apps files were no where to be seen so i double checked through Apps 2 SD, Link2sd and the system app info on my phone and they all show that the apps have not been moved to my micro sd card.
i havent tried the adb shell or script methods you have sugested but i will soon and let you know how i go.
thanks heaps in advanced!
i hv seen many ppl complaining abt cwm creating bad partitions. so i would suggest it via pc.
for formatting use "sdformatter"
for partitioning use "minitool partition wizard".
ur issues seem to be wid bad partition.

thanks again in advanced havent had time to try these things out yet but hopefully will soon

Precisely...the pictures in my first post show that storage sections labled 'internal storage' and 'usb storage' are both on my phones memory. I am able to take the micro sd out of the phone and these storage locations are still mounted and installed apps still work. Also when i open my native file explorer to see where my apps are and select 'SD card' it goes to the directory of 'usb storage'. This problem occurs with apps such as Astro and other file managing apps.
sry, am totally lost. may be someone else will help you out. gud luck

i know this is an old topic, but i just want to share in case anyone stumbles upon this error again.
I had this problem, i fixed it by changing the default install location to auto in link2sd. or ifg you dont have link2sd in settings set it to let system decide. hope this helps someone out there

don't put your app on SD card.. cuz it makes your app laggy, long time booting, and MAKING YOUR INTERNAL AND SYSTEM VERY LOW....
link2sd is the best for linking your app... it give you more space on internal and system...
BTW system app that safe to remove is TimeScape, Facebook, GMail, Live Wallpaper, FileManager(like astro, ES explorer, Etc), MX Video Player, etc..
it's better to link system app i mentioned above than remove it... it can free your system 50 mb...
sorry for my bad english... i'm still newbie in english
Don't forget to create an ext partition. Move your apps to this.
It's better than moving using the standard sd partition because when you connect your phone via USB with you pc the ext partition keeps being mounted while the standard sd partition gets uncounted and all moved apps there are not useable.

Brov thanks for yur concern... my question how do I create an ext partition & tha partiton will be created on SD card aite??? Also tha apps on internal memory which startup with phone after booting can also be move to SD card Ext Partition & it will still work with tha widget too???
Create partition on sdcard using Mini Tool. Google it.
Backup first, bcoz it will format your sdcard. Make ext4 partition, 1gb is enough.
Then, search for app like link2sd, etc, and the script also.
Your phone memory will increase as much as ext4.

Link2sd works also with non moveable declared apps. Widgets work too.
Take a look at the homepage from link2sd, there the faq. All is described very carefully.
Seems a little complicated. Once you got it its easy to handle link2sd.
Good luck.

I am assuming that your sd card is exFat. It needs to be formatted to Fat32 for twrp to recognize it.

Right, Windows doesn't format to Fat32 natively. There's a free program you can download that will do it though but I don't remember the name of it atm.
I have a 64gb SD card. I used Aparted from the app store to format it to fat32. Rebooted into TWRP and it allowed me to backup to external SD. The app is free and was very quick on the format

Format with TWRP and to ext3 or 4. But only prob is windows doesn't read those formats. I use *nix so I am fine but Fat32 via another option works just as well. Only now you will have file size limits. Ext doesn't.

That's partition. Dont use that. Wipe the SD card and select ext3 or ext4. I use 4. Just know you will not be able to read that SD card on a windows box.

Thanks. Yea, someone pointed that out to me in a different topic. I mixed myself up I guess.
Can u backup to internal memory than manually transfer to sd with an explorer?
Quick Boot, from Sirius, on the Play Store is very handy. (A random mention, but I vastly prefer it to access TWRP compared to futzing with the power button)
You can use TWRP to reformat to fat, which is then usable by both TWRP and the system, though you will have a 4GB size limit on a single file.
Back up your external sd card.
Start TWRP
Wipe
Advanced wipe
Check the external_sd box
Repair or change file system
Change file system
Select fat
TWRP will reformat the external sd to fat. Reboot and restore whatever files you had copied off the external sd.
If you use FAT you will not be able to backup a stock image. There is a file size limit. Use Ext.

I was able to create a backup on my Fat32 formatted SD card. The file size limit is 4gb and the size of my backup was 3.8.

I will rephrase... Not all backups will be the same size. Case in point mine is 6g. So if the backups will be under 4... FAT is an option.
Have you confirmed that option works with both TWRP and when running the system (sd accessible for read/write)?

Which option are you talking about? I can create and restore tibu back ups from my SD card plus my music is stored on my external as well. Note that I have the KK SD card full access exposed module installed.
I'll try ext, too. In the original thread people had tried several options.
Ok I reformatted to fat 32 with a mac computer and now I can back up my stock rom to the external SD card..

The TWRP backup functionality chops things into chunks that do work with a fat format. It looks like it divides at about 1.5GB boundaries.
When I did a TWRP backup, onto my TWRP-fat-formatted SD, I see two different system files in the backup folder, system.ext4.win000 (1.49GB) and system.ext4.win001 (618 MB). Similarly I have several data.ext4 files, the largest showing 1.51 GB.
As long as a single file isn't over 4 GB size, TWRP appears to be entirely happy with a fat external SD.
For kicks I might try shoveling a single > 4 GB file into my internal storage, to see if TWRP chops that single file up, though in my own use case that isn`t an issue.
It`s all good, having TWRP is a big relief to me
