[Q] cant find GB Mods - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey ive been looking for awhile now and after going to a bunch of file servers i cant seem to find the 1.6ghz elite OC kernel for gingerbread and i have found nothing on bringing the sense 4 recent apps mod to GB or evan a ICS like Recent apps for GB any help on either would be appreciated :highfive:
anyone know where i can get either?

maybe here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29552599
Sent from the gray stuff inside my skull

Those kernels were not really popular because they weren't meant for the average user. Why do you want it? Faux's OC kernel is good enough. Besides, there are discussions about people destroying their digitizers from the extra heat caused by overclocking.
As far as I know, development is dead on bringing features to GB. All resources are being used on making ICS run better. The "recent" feature on GB works similarly, just doesn't look as cool. There is an app I used that had webOS like app switcher. Not sure what the name was or if it's available.

Poll for Eris roms?

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has thought about posting a poll for the most popular Eris roms..or is that just not cool/not needed/uninteresting/stop asking stupid questions you stupid newb?
Or maybe it's a good idea..and now I can't edit the poll to add that as an option..
Just try different roms yourself. Everyone likes different ones.

Thanks for the suggestion..that one seems to be a really popular one, I starting to lean that way as my starting point..
Best Eris Rom ?
I agree that it really depends on personal opinon.
As I haven't tried very many ROM's, actually only 2 , I have researched this quite extensively and the 2 I have tried and like verrrry much are:
KaosFroyo - I was running v37, but v38 just came out an hour ago
NonsensikalFroyo - I have run 9.5 & 10.1 Black & Blue but im flashing 10.8.1 B&B now
.... both have released updates within the last 24-48 hours.
I havent tried TazzFroyo but I would make that these the top 3 to try first !
Nonsensikal is a Cyanogen Mod build, Kaos is a CM/AOSP build
I hope this helps you narrow things. Happy flashing
Awesome!! Thanks so much! I'm probably going to flash KaosFroyo first since so many have suggested it..
Thanks again!
I just went to kaosfroyo v38. Its sick but celbfroyo is good cause its faster

celbfroyo is faster eh? Are you overclocking on the KFv38? Is it noticeably laggy?

I second that notion. Also I dont keep up with whats happenning with these roms and just check back here around once a month. It would be really cool if there were constantly new polls that would allow people like me to see what is popular at that point in time to give us a reference point of what to check out.
Thanks for the +1..maybe I just need to start a real one and people will jump on board.
I don't know what overclocking is. I have tazzfroyo now an its faster than v38
Sent from my Vanilla Tazz using XDA App
Overclocking allows you to run the processor at higher than stock speeds. I think most people are running it at around 750mhz where the stock speed is 528mhz.
Basically you can unlock a lot of hidden speed by overclocking at the sacrifice of some battery life.
Your rom may already have an overclocking app installed..do a search for it if your interested, I know I am
It would be a lot of bias. People get attached to roms and their developers so yeah. And different phones will behave differently with different roms.

GingerBlur vs GreyBlur

What differences are there, if any, between the two roms BESIDES cosmetic differences? Is one faster or better on battery than the other? I've yet to root or flash a rom but I've read up on adb, sbf-flashing, and atrix pseudo-CWM and I think I can handle it. I've also searched but didn't find the information I'm looking for.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I had this question I was told to read the features. In nt experience grey was smoother but a little slower. Ginger was faster but buggier although I did get better battery on grey. That's just my person experience

Gingerblur had been updated more recently.

Yeah, gingers features all seem GUI related, though both are deodexed. Guess ill have to try both but I might just try GrayBlur...
Will I lose all my data and apps when I flash? I think I do but im not sure.

You shouldnt loose anything as they arent technically full roms just a flashable collection of themes mods and tweaks

LOL, what look do you like better? That's the one you pick.
My God, guys. They are just themes. No. There are no differences in speed or anything. It's one look vs the other. These "roms" are simply theme, maybe with some per installed apps.
haha speed difference on themes =D the only speed difference is are you on the latest update from Motorola
Only asked since gray listed speed hacks and improvements under features, and the feature list for ginger was much, much shorter. This is what happens when newbs ask questions
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
They are themed, but please remember to acknowledge the heavy changes that were made such as deodex, removal and/or addition of key apps, tweaks to enable things like sideloading, HDMI mirroring and Webtop modifications, etc.
They aren't roms, they're what people have dubbed "pseudo-roms" - a composition of changes and tweaks akin to what a rom would provide. It's the best we can do at this point. And I'm really pleased with GreyBlur to be honest. Awesome work.
I was referring to the differences, as both deodexing and the other changes were listed for both I believe. I meant memory speed hack and such listed for grayblur.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I can say I have tried both and my PERSONAL preference is with gingerblur. I ended up putting the ProDX red theme with 1% and circle battery mod over top of gingerblur and LOVE IT looks amazing. Speed wise i never really compared, and I do not use a laptop dock or car dock so never had to worry about the issues with those.

what rom should i use???

What's up guys. I need some help picking the best ROM for me. I know there's tons of them on here, by I'm a novice to Android, and honestly don't even really get te difference between firmware and a ROM. I want some very specific feature which is also why I made this thread seeking your help.
I'm an old iPhone user.. did all the jailbreaking and all myself and even though I think the TB is better than my old iPhone I would love to incorporate some of the "fluidity" it had. Specifically I'm looking a ROM that wouldn't interrupt my music when I get a text to play to notification sound, instead play it on top of the song playing at the moment. I would also like to initiate access the play/pause skip buttons without having to unlock my TB, like double pressing the home button on an iPhone and the play buttons pop up even if you weren't playing any music.
The last and most important to me would be this one: on the iPhone there is a security option that if you have a password set and let's say the phone is stolen and someone tries unlocking the phone more than an allowed number of times(set by the user) it erases EVERYTHING on the phone. These are all I can think off right now. Like I said, I'm a novice to Android and I will appreciate any help and advice I can get. I already had my TB rooted but I just updated the verizon firmware on my TB not knowing that it would un-root it.. so I'm trying to find a ROM ASAP.
Thanks
Edit: I would also like to make my TB run on gingerbread and improve the battery life.

It's really about trying them out for yourself. Alot of what you want is available through apps. Not even sure you need to root.
As far as bamf ROMs, they decided to leave xda but if you google them, you should find them.
XDA does not like you linking other sites that do the same thing.
I suggest them because they ate always updating their roms, they have a good group of people happy to assist you, and the roms are just really well done. Chingy does great work too. But apparently posting to another forum gets you banned these days. Google "Team BAMF". :-]

it is against the rules on xda, and its their site.
OP, I've been using gingertheory, which is a gb rom with a hybrid sense of 3.0 and 2.1. Very smooth and fast. The same dev also makes a senseless version of GB that is very light and you can add custom lockscreen to that can have audio controls.

Eh, dont waste your time with bamf. Synergy is where its at IMO. If youre still kinda new, Droid Theory does awesome support. Hes one of the nicest people Ive seen on the boards, but he doesnt consider himself a Dev. lol. Ive heard CM7 is real nice too though if you arent so much of a sense fan.

The one that fits your needs the best, which may or may not reflect the opinions of those in the thread. In short, you need to research and/or try many different ones. The lazy way of asking others won't give you the best results.
Synergy is my favorite. I've tried CM7, BAMF 3.0, Gingertheory, Injectedtheory, and Tesla Coil.
CM7 was my second fav, but Synergy was just farther ahead in development. They are doing nightlys now and things are very smooth. Running on the newest leaked GB base and radio, and it runs on ziggys kernel, which seems to be second to none.

Now that Netflix has officially come out for the Thunderbolt, I am sticking with the official MR2 ROM that is the same as stock but rooted and deodexed. All of the apps I want to run work fine plus I have root for things like Titanium, LBE Privacy Guard, SetCPU and VNC so I see no reason to change. I was considering it for Netflix but since that works fine there is no need to. Perhaps when the other roms have stable releases rather than just nightlies/betas/RCs I will switch to a custom rom.

[Discussion] CyanogenMod7

THREAD RULES: We DO NOT ask for ETA or release dates in this thread!
So it seems like everybody goes crazy when it comes to the porting of CM7. But why?
I got my hands on a SGS2 with CM7 installed. Tried it, experienced it a little. From what I experienced the CM7 wasnt something that special. I asked the owner of the phone what he though of the ROM. To my surprise he said "it's just a ROM". He also mentioned that the stock ROM was smoother.
So now I'm wondering, why all the fuzz? What are you expecting from CM7? What makes it so special and so popular?
I'm pretty sure that a lot of people who craves for the porting of CM7 has no clue of this.
(off topic: tbh, i'd rather prefer MIUI.)
edit: for the interface
My sister's Backflip has CyanogenMod 7 installed with 2.3.3 (Not even Froyo is released in Asia-Pacific regions) , it allows her to have OC/UV kernels from 600Mhz to 748Mhz . Her phone is wayyyyy less laggier than stock .(the difference is obviously obvious)
I'm not really good on those areas but arent you able to do that using SetCPU?

he said using oc/uv.. his sister device only support 600mhz by default, but because she uses custom oc/uv kernel, she can achieve 748mhz with help of setcpu. it depends on clock stepping that were supported by kernel, not by setcpu. setcpu only help to configure those clock stepping
Oh, never knew about that. From my use of SGA 800mhz is doing alright.
And as I mentioned, not really good at those areas so I didnt even know that "oc/uv" was overclock and undervolt xD
Some bugs fixed are gonna be fixed in CM. Camera quality should be bit better. Theme engine is built into ROM, so there will be much more themes for SGA. Im also excited about haptic feedback (not sure about this one).
And much more...

MiUi is cyanogen based, if I'm not wrong.
First off I'm sure in cm there will be accurate battery reporting. No ****ty jumps in percentage.
Second, if CM is under way I believe developers will include uv, through kernels or modules. Overclocking though, may not be necessary.
Other than that the rom has so many tweaks. Over time and development CM will make our original firmware outmoded because it WILL get smoother.

Speed, stability, power, eyecandy, etc, etc.
But most of all; bugfixes and much more stability compared to stock firmware, as it is said that CM7 is build from the ground up so in my eyes it won't or even can't have the flaws that stock has.
Hey, it's only my opinion.
i think it`s only way to forget about SODs
Cyanogen is popular for a few reasons. It incoporates most worthwhile mods and runs normaly as well if not better than stock. Plus for me on a personal view it will help to get miui for sga.

[Q] Which GB ROM?

Hello,
I have got the itch to try a GB ROM again. I'm currently running Project V and it's great, but i want some change. I tried CM7 RC1 when it first came out and couldn't deal with the horrible battery life. But I figure it's been quite a while so things may have improved since then. What would be everyone's suggestion on the best one? I don't like crazy themes or anything. I'm just looking for a stock GB look with decent battery life and stability. Thanks in advance!

Calm down now, it's nothing personal. I'm sure it runs just fine. I just like the stock GB look.
The cm7 have drastically improved battery is on part with most other GB roms. I personally love Miui revamped LE it is incredibly fast and the developers are extremely active in the forum. Along with that they update the ROM every Friday and you always think there is no way it can get better but somehow they always seem to exceed expectations

Biffmod
I personally find Simply Honey to be a bit much as well (no offense explodingboy, just not to my taste). So, leaning toward a stock-ish ROM, I recommend Biffmod Vibrant. It's basically CM7, but with a bunch of tweaks to fix the common complaints and a stock look. Here are the changes:
Features:
*Mix of AOSP/cm7 - 2.3.5
*black launcher2
*black camera
*notification widgets
*overclock capable kernel (1.7ghz)
*voodoo color and sound
*BLN/LED Notifications (on by default, the BLN app is not compatible)
*Ricktips
*glitch kernel HL thanks TK-Glitch

I've been using it ever since I switched from my HD2 to the Vibrant, and it's a dream. The only issue I've encountered is a "problem" with the overclocking: the kernel says it can go up to 1.7Ghz, but in my experience it tops out at about 1.4Ghz before the phone starts to freeze up. Other than that, like I said, it's great—I fully recommend it.

I just wanted to chime in, I've tried your rom before and it was fantastic (in fact, i think it was the first one to have bln fixed when all the other roms had broken bln). However, I was past my honeycomb theme phase and is looking for a more stock gb (or close to it) look now. I constantly search for themes for your rom that can make it look like stock but to no avail I think if you added a stock theme zip, you will be able to increase your user base by quite a significant amount of people.
It's great--I easily go a whole day with moderate to heavy Wifi usage (I don't have data) without having to plugin.

I ended up flashing Biffmod last night. It is amazing so far. So smooth and I haven't had a single issue yet. I also ended up flashing the newest Bali Kernel and have it UV'ed quite substantially. We'll see how it does on battery.
Thanks for the advice.
I personally prefer CM7 or Bionix 1.3.1
Every GB rom I've tried has not had a working GPS. I travel for a living so I need this to work. I have since gone back to 2.2 so my GPS works but out of curiosity, is there a GB rom/kernel that supports reliable GPS functionality?
I could be wrong but I think some of the gps work. GPS worked fine for me on Simply Honey 5.0, which I loved. I liked the themeing, especially the pink theme made to go with it!! I just decided to give Trigger (GB not Froyo) a try and I am equally happy with it. GPS isn't a huge issue for me, but I noticed on Trigger I get locks but they are not accurate, usually within 100ft. I also haven't tweaked any of the settings or tried any of the fixes. There are lots of great GB roms out there...just play around and see what suits you best. My Vibrant has always had great gps I've read that some GPS just don't work well on Vibrants.
I personally really like the AOSP GB Roms, Trigger, CM7 and MIUI are all great... have not tried Biffmod yet, but I intend to sometime.
Kernel-wise, I really like Glitch V11 HL

It's not a kernel issue. It's just that your vibrant cant handle the overclock as all devices overclock and undervolt differently
