Problem installing new rom - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone,
Was wondering if anyone can help me solve a problem regarding the ROM of my Galaxy S2.
I've had my phone for more than 18 months now and I remember having it rooted and the ROM changed last year.
The guy who helped modify my phone is no longer around and so I am making attempts to change the ROM myself.
The current ROM on my phone is called Litening ROM version 6.1 and it was a fantastic ROM. However, it's already very old and needs to be upgraded to the latest ones.
I've downloaded and tried to install 3 ROMs so far and nothing seems to work.
I wiped the cache partition clean and also did a factory data reset.
Now, whenever I access the downloaded ROM from my sdcard, it always ends up saying:
"E: Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip (No space left on device)"
What does this mean? My device has ample memory and I've deleted most of the files on the sdcard already to make even more space.
My device is also rooted - so I don't think rooting it again is needed.
Please see attached pictures.
I've tried several ROMs and I'm now on my last ROM which is the Omega ROM for Galaxy S2.
All ROMs do not install and the same error message always shows up during installation.
Hope you can recommend a good solution for this.
Regards.

Hi there. Sorry but I'm not familiar with CWM recovery. My phone is factory reset so I did not install any other program.
Is CWM recovery an app which can be downloaded?
I just saw the program CWM recovery on my friend's Galaxy S3 which has Omega ROM installed on it.
But my S2 with Litening ROM does not have this app.
Cheers.

Flash Siyah kernel get the latest lightning rom zip, install via CWM, this is the short explanation on how to do it there are hundreds of guide.
Using GT - I9100

Here mate. Download thishttp://db.tt/MxD7F6xg.
Install it through recovery and it will replace it with CWM recovery (temporary).
Then flash your new rom through that.

data partition have been corrupted?
Hello, I have an issue, i think my data partition have been corrupted base on my research so far. I'm just tracking back to how it all started.
I've been running this rom for about a week and i love it, it worked great until yesterday i decided to open a YouTube link via Chrome from my Facebook app. Chrome froze and eventually the screen went blank. I hold the power button to reset and it did, but got stuck at the S screen. I boot into recovery and re-flash the rom wanam 12.3. When i reboot it got stuck during the process of optimizing apps. I reboot and the same thing happen. I boot into recovery and did a wipe data/factory reset and it got stuck in the process. I did a battery pull. (here is where my memory doesn't quite remember the order of events) I attempted a restore of the rom and it failed after it had completed. I attempted restoring another rom but it had a mismatch md5 sum. I attempted restoring another rom S3 mod Rom and it got stuck during the process. By this time i'm only able to get to the boot screen. I flash stock XAKL1 with the pit file and that works for me.
My problem is that i can't boot into any rom unless i use a pit file, which leads me to the thought of my data partition being corrupted. I know the fix for this which is to flash a particular pit file which will create a new partition space at the cost of -2GB of internal space. I just want to make sure that my thoughts are correct before i do that.

I wouldn't have tried this as your phone is i9100P, although I know the difference isn't that big.
Also, was your phone rooted? It had to have been rooted beforehand.

That's your problem. You were on 4.0.3, which is ICS.
The instructions at galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-rooted-galaxy-s2-i9100/ don't specify, but they are for Gingerbread ONLY. The recovery kernel contained within that zip package is ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.4, which is for Gingerbread.
This thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693) is the updated version of that recovery kernel for ICS.
You don't have to flash the full firmware, just flash a kernel that is meant to work with ICS and you should be fine.

Thanks for the advice - but i already have the stock ROM on an SD card so i think i will flash this. Problem is i cannot get CWM to read from the external SD card, so i cannot locate the zip and install it - help?
EDIT: if i install the kernel you gave me the link to ([KERNEL][ICS] ClockworkMod Recovery 5.5.0.4) , will it remove the root access i had?
EDIT 2: I have just flashed the kernel via odin, and it finally got past the screen with the yellow triangle! However, it is now stuck on the second screen which shows the 'S' logo with the words 'Samsung Galaxy SII' under it. Any more ideas?

Can you boot to recovery? If so, you can try a factory reset/wipe data. You'll lose all your data, (not counting pictures/media) but at this point, do you have anything to lose?

Well, now I'd say you need to flash a full firmware. You said you downloaded I9100PXXLPH from here? Should work. But you'll no longer be rooted, and you won't have CWM recovery.
How did you get into this in the first place? You wanted CWM recovery?

I will be sure to try that, and basically earlier today i rooted it successfully, and then i had to get CWM onto it so i could start flashing new ROMs etc, and i tried installing CWM via that method that has now caused all of this
Never the less i will try your suggestion, so should i basically mount usb from CWM, then copy the firmware over to the phone, unmount, and then wipe, and then flash it finally?
EDIT: it wont allow me to mount USB in CWM
can i just flash the ZIP using odin in download mode, or does it have to be a .tar file?

No. That download is for a package that must be flashed while the phone is in download mode. That will require you to use a computer, and a flashing tool, such as Odin or Heimdall.

Well I think Chainfire's CF-Root kernels (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399) are not for i9100P, so not sure if he can achieve permanent CWM recovery. Anyway if he don't plan to flash every hour new ROM he should be fine with latest temporary CWM 6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840223 although will ask Phil about compatibility.

HELP please!!! S2 Stuck on boot screen

Guys I am using a Samsung galaxy s2 gt i9100 running jelly bean 4.1.2 stock xwlst firmware and i rooted my phone using the one click root using exploits. I am all new to this rooting process and so i installed titanium backup and i was trying to remove playstore inorder to install modded play store and all of a sudden my device rebooted and now its stuck with the boot screen. So i tried to flash canogenmod 10.2 for the first time and used clock work mod recovery. I wiped my memory cleared the cache(couldnt find dalvik cache and the advanced menu either) and applied the latest cyanogen mod 20130827 from the cyanogenmod.org using my external sdcard. It displayed assert failed )==gti9100t status 7 error. I can assure you that i downloaded the international version of the cyanogenmod and not any other variant. Kindly help me with a solution or a link to the correct cyanogenmod rom package. Thank you. Looking forward to an earlier response
1) This isn't urgent. We get people 'crying wolf' on here all the time. Having a thread title like this is a good way to have people ignore your thread.
2) Also, using a title like [URGENT] HELP please !!! is another good way to have people ignore your thread. If you want help, you need to use a descriptive thread title
3) Unless you use sentencing/paragraphing, your OP is impossible to read. I certainly didn't read past the first line & many other people here won't unless you fix it.

[Q] [HELP] Formatted system and SDcard

background info:
samsung galaxy s3 i9300. Rooted with cyanogenmod Installer: http://beta.download.cyanogenmod.org/install
A while ago I tried flashing a costum rom, however i wasnt fully satistied so went back to cyanogenmod. My SDcard space went from 11gb to 2gb left. I went to recovery (CWM Touch) and formatted system and sdcard (which was a huge mistake I believe). As far as I know, I have no rom installed right now after the format. Ive downloaded MIUI and put it on my external SD and tried flashing it from my external SD. After wiping dalvik, cache and factory reset flashing went well. When I press reboot device CWM says "root access is missing, root device?" Now there are 2 options: "no" and "yes root device (/system/xbin/su)". Both options result in my phone stuck at the boot animation.
I thought because I had no root, I had to flash a stock rom. So I downloaded a stock rom and tried flashing it. CWM said "installation aborted". So right now Im kind of clueless. Can anyone help me and tell me what to do? Ive been searchin this forum for quite a long time now. Any help would be appreciated.
Kind regards

And are you able to flash that miui rom you talking about now??
If it asks fit root just click no.. That's a problem I guess with the recovery not detecting root but you still have it.. just not into your rom by clicking no... then if you don't have root you can flash a supersu file through recovery..

Yes, unless it is a repackaged stock rom you must use odin, not CWM to flash it. You could try using archie's rom or one of Wanam's in CWM. Or download a repacked stock that is flashable in CWM.

Download a stock rom 4.4 or 4.3 and flash the three files with odin. In the forum you can find tuto to flash a proper base with odin. After root the rom and flash CWM with odin. Then you can flash blekota Note 4 rom with CWM.

Hi sorry to point out a couple of things but the op may get confused by your post. First thing there are no stock 4.4 roms that you can flash with Odin the highest version is 4.3. Also if the op is planning to flash a custom rom after returning to stock with Odin then he does not need to root he can just flash a custom recovery like Cwm do a full wipe then flash the custom rom. (The reason why is because root is included in all custom roms). Also the op say's Odin is not working anyway
To the op what kind of error is Odin giving you?.Also make sure you are flashing a official stock rom with Odin .tar format not a zip file.

Hello! Thank you for the feedback, maybe with your idea i can find a solution. I am using Odin version 1.85 and 3.09 but the process stuck on "Nand Write" which I dunno what that means. The format is .tar. I even left it for an hour or two, but nothings happen and when I tried to reinstall the S5 sensation it was successful. I also full wiped data and cache and even deleted the so called Dalvik cahe as I followed the instruction of what I read here, but that does'nt help me after all. :'(

You could first try a "format" of System,Data,Preload,Dalvik etc (This is not a normal wipe) try using this script the Mega wipe version >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/tool-mega-wipesuper-wipefactory-t1832326 << you could have residue files left behind in preload etc. When using make sure you have a rom on ext sd card to flash because this wipes your System.
If that does not work you could also try the rescue firmware here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735&postcount=6 << good luck.

My Galaxy S3 i9300 international version got bricked, so I find many solutions here and all was succesful when I install Galaxy S5 sensation. And now my problem is I can't install any other Roms after it, it goes aborted again and again. I used TWRP and even ODIN but nothings happen. So help me I don't know the problem is, I already downloaded two Roms, the Blekota Note 4 and Lollipop for galaxy S3 i9300 and I really want to install the Blekota but was not success at all though I followed the Instruction carefully. Solution please?
