Screen is not shutting off - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am rooted.
Screen is not dimming, smart stay is off, and timeout has been changed between 15-30 seconds. Phone still does not autosleep. SmartStay is off, tried toggling it as well.
Any suggestions?

Reboot fixed it for me

Same here.
This happens every two days or so.
I'm just paranoid I will fall asleep without knowing about this and have a screen with burn in. Luckily, last night my battery was low and died so it shut off. Otherwise, i'd probably have a status bar burnt to the top of my screen.

I've found the smart stay feature to be flaky at best. I suggest people not use the feature and set a display timeout and adjust ones app settings. I know some ebook programs like to keep the screen on.

I had the same issue but since unlocking, wiping and moving to beans v2 it hasn't come back but we'll see if that lasts.

I'm assuming you are Korean based on your username... If you are playing any Kakaotalk games, including anipang, dragonflight.. so on.. kill that app after you are done playing. That will take care of it. I think that is the reason why reboot cures it.

Turn Off Soft Key Lights

Is there a way to make the soft key lights time out while watching a movie, specifically Netflix?
The only way I've been able to do it is to turn them off completely in display settings in UnNamed.

Is setting them to timeout in 6 seconds not viable?

I have that as my default setting. It works everywhere else but when watching videos.

Weird, maybe its a netflix thing? Just tested on mine and the lights turned off no problem watching a video on the sd card.
There must be something in the Netflix app that keeps them awake. I noticed this on my Thrill, where there is no option about those keys, they stayed on all the time while watching Netflix too.
I think turning them to always off in the settings is the only way, and that's a pain every time you want to watch a movie.

Any way to stop screen dim when charging?

I like to listen to Pandora while working and keeping the phone charged. I have the setting to not turn off the screen when charging but it does dim, making it hard to see notifications/other things.
Is there a way to stop it from dimming while charging?
Go to settings -developer options-stay awake

I use Tasker for this.

Doesn't work, still dims after 10-15 seconds while plugged in.

Ha you got a free thanks......
So what you do to keep the screen from dimming...goto settings/display and set the sleep to never turn off.......this will keep the screen from dimming but don't forget to change it back when not charging....this will drain your battery pretty fast.

It stills dims for me, it just doesn't turn off. I am running rotation locker but I doubt that affects brightness

This is the correct (albeit, more expensive) answer. Buy Tasker from the Play Store, set a profile that, when plugged in, sets brightness to a certain percent (instead of automatic) and sets screen timeout to never. Add an exit profile that returns brightness to automatic and sets screen timeout to whatever you want it to be.
I found a (legally) free solution

"Always on"
I tried three or four anti-sleep/anti-dim apps and this one works great on my EVO 4G LTE stock ROM!
Please reply if this also works for you!

Wake up already!

Anyone else experiencing a substantial lag on waking the phone up? Not to be a stickler, but it's pretty much a full second from when I press the power key until the screen wakes up.

Yes, see the thread "sluggish waking up" in the q&a feed. Disable the ripple effect on the lockscreen. Worked for me. I've since re-enabled the ripple effect and have not noticed the lag.

I actually disabled the ripple effect right when I turned it on.
I'll toggle it on/off again and see what happens

I read in a different thread if you completely turn it off it's pretty quick. I use Widget Locker with root helper enabled. It's pretty speedy once you disable the stock lockscreen.
Mine's better too after disabling ripple.. I wonder if it has to do with the phone going into a deep sleep state combined with loading up the ripple?
Ok, so where do we disable the ripple effect?
Under settings:lock screen:lock screen settings. Uncheck ripple effect

Does this lag your s4?

Go into your connection settings. Turn on your wifi, right after you switch it on, pull down your notifications bar and keep going up and down with it while the wifi turns on. Does your notification bar get all laggy and stuttery while the wifi turns on?

yeah. wifi turning on/off and switching to mobile network lags the entire phone down.
kinda does it on every android phone, but it's 10x worse on the gs4 because of touchwiz lol
Yes...but this is one of those things that is super specific to a certain scenario. I never noticed it before.

Glad I'm not the only one lol. Hey I saw you talking in some thread about gs4 head issues. Mine gets got too but the hottest I've seen it was 41c battery and i was on it and charging it at the same time. Thats really the only time it gets close to 40, is when I'm charging it and using it. Most of the time it seems to be 30-36c when I'm using it. Is this ok?

It's weird cuz the wifi thing doesn't lag my note 2 at all. I think the new version of android is messed up. Hopefully we get some updates soon. If i had a defected device wouldn't it show up in the benchmarks? I ran every benchmark and get higher scores than any other phone so I know the hardware is good.

No, this doesn't lag my S4 at all. However, I set "Disable hardware overlays" to always use GPU for screen composing (in developer options). With this option set I haven't noticed a single stutter.
Before this workaround, I used to notice microstutters here and there (it would stutter doing window animation opening up facebook notifications for example).
Word of caution: supposedly this can cause problems for some apps. The only app that has problems is quadrant
I tried that setting but it didn't seem to change anything. All I want to change about the phone is the occasional home button lag I'm experiencing. Sometimes when I hit the home button it takes half a second to respond but when I clear all my recent apps the home button response is instant. Any ideas?

Thank you for this.. I never really had the need to disable hardware overlays, but my snapchat app lags hardcore when going from my snap list to the camera. This has fixed that. Is there any disadvantage to disabling hardware overlays?

There's a lot of lag on this phone, but still a lot to love!

Lock screen clock refreshes late

Anyone have an issue with the lock screen clock taking longer than usual to refresh? Say I turn my screen off at 6:05. If I turn on my screen back on at say 6:15, the lock screen clock will say 6:05 for a second, then switch to 6:15. Any known way to fix this?

Happens to me. I figured it was a screen-off profile written in the rom I use.
Mine does it too and I even have the latest firmware upgrade.

I see this too but don't mind it. If the phone is in deep sleep and not waking to update the clock, that saves me more battery power!
