[Question] how to turn off capacitive buttons - HTC Desire X

Hi all, I have noticed that in video playback capacitive buttons are always turned on, and its annoying. I have try with YouTube, MX player (I have no option to change) and native player and always turned on, but the buttons turn off when ambience light is full. Is there any app or script to turn it off?
Hope to solve it

I'm sorry but I don't know how, and please don't post questions in the developing forum, there's a Q&A forum for these kind of threads.

If your current ROM support init.d you can flash this file keyoff.zip in recovery but it will permanently turn it off.
To have the default setting, just delete the 99keyoff from init.d and reboot.
It should work for DX too as long as it runs a sense ROM with init.d support.

Editing build prop can also disable buttons backlight
ro.mot.buttonlight.timeout=
tweak from dark_knight35
currently I'm making a full sense rom with init.d support,

Yo, I can't remember where I found this on I-net, but here's a script (lightsoff) you put in /data/local, then change permissions to execute (for example with root explorer), then you just create a shortcut on your homescreen and hey presto ! Only downside : I always have to reboot to turn them back on, but at least it makes using fbreader a lot better.

[Q] Xperia active media sound volume low

I know, this question is been discussed over and over, but the thing I'm interested is - where are the android 2.3.4 firmware .42 sound volume preferences located in phone? Does somebody know?
I know, there is application called volume+, but that's not the topic.
I want to find the system sound settings and see, if there are any limitations.

So, nobody knows?

[mod]Kill the Shuttersound

Hey guys,
there is this annoying thing with the RAZR HD, the shutter Sound.
You cant turn it off, you cant silence it and stuff.
I googled a little and found out that if you are rooted, it is quiet easy to turn of that annoying noise.
Just Download a root file manager
then go to /system/media/audio/ui
mount your system as read/write
then simply rename the file Camera_click.ogg to camera_click.ogg.bak
Thats it, you will never hear that sound again, unless you rename the file back to camera_click.ogg
so enjoy and have fun with your silenced camera
Greetz Esok
I will definitely try this! For now I just block the speaker with my finger lol

the option to disable shutter sound is built into the camera app under settings. look at the bottom option

Yap you're Right, it is illegal to disable the shutter sound on phone cameras in some countries. Some countries even demand that the shutter sound gotta have some minimum decibel determined by law.
I don't got the country list. but i think u can find that by googling it.
The disable is on my phone.
Also if you turn your volume down, the shutter sound goes down with overall phone volume.
mute the phone and the shutter sound is also muted.
I did that a few weeks ago. After that taking photos takes a lot more of time and the photos weren't pushed to the little gallery screen (in the right, top of the screen).

try not just to rename Camera_click.ogg but make the file with same name and silence inside.
Another option is too simply install another camera app. I don't intend to promote a specific app but I have recently installed jb camera+ and been quite happy. Probably other apps are just as good.
2 things I have noticed: much improved image quality (less noise ) and the option to silence the shutter! Try out the free ics app or similar and compare image quality to motos app. I was a bit surprised to see the difference. My phone is not rooted btw.

Found that line in the Build.prop too, tried to edit it via regular texteditor, saved, but nothing has changed.
After a reboot the build.prop was the same as before, and there was no 0 in forceShutterSound

That happens if the build.prop wasn't saved properly. What I usually do is pull the file to my PC to edit and then overwrite it

Do I need root to write changed file build.prop into system dir?
When I tried the adb answered "failed to copy 'build.pro' to '/system/build.prop': Read-only file-system
Update: yes, now I'm quite sure that I need root
BTW, Camera JB+ app works well for me and shuttersound could be switched off without any problems. I have RAZR HD Germany version.
camera_click.ogg and camera_focus.ogg deleted, thanks for the tips I use a CM10 ROM.
thanks!

U-Disco - Entertaining Lights in the Illumination Bar - now also for SP

I have added support for Xperia SP to U-Disco so I figured I will mention that in here too.
The original thread is over in the Xperia U forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970167
It will give you different light patterns in the illumination bar.
Some of them require music to work, other will light up anyway.
It only works on Xperia U, Xperia P or Xperia SP, and it also requires ROOT to get individual access to the LEDs.
Get the free version here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rundgong.udisco
The pro version has more colors and can run in the background. Otherwise they are the same.
Get the pro version here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rundgong.udiscopro
I have not tried it on SP myself but let me know if you find any bugs. I'll try to fix them.
Thanks to @DooMLoRD for describing the leds in another thread, and @sagar29 for testing it on SP
It works in my sp and it looks amazing thanks

Thanks, it works like a charm. I also try your other app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rundgong.illuminationcontrol) and it's work perfectly too. :highfive:
I made an update with tweaks to the leds on SP.
Hopefully it will make the lights a bit more smooth.
Let me know if you think it is better or worse.
Version 1.6 is out on google play now.

Hi, leds on SP are surely better supported now: the "preview" during choosing the color works now, and I guess it starts for example the strobe a bit faster (still over 1 second delay after setting the color).
Rainbow and others where we can't choose a color are running instantly.
Hi! Thanks for the great app. There's an issue though. Just copying my own review from Play Market:
Doesn't work in Walkman with headphones plugged in. If you plug out the headphones and then plug them in again, LEDs begin to flash until a song changes. Would be great if you could fix the bug. Best regards.

I have the latest firmware installed (254); no sound mods. Tried to soft/hard reset the phone also, but that hasn't changed anything. Discolight by Sagar Kar has no such issue (but seems a bit buggy in general, that's why I'd like this app to be fully-functional). Can anyone confirm the bug? Or that's me who's so «lucky»?

I don't see that behavior. But there will be strange effects if both the walkman app and this app writes to the LEDs at the same time.
There may be flickering and maybe odd colors as well. Otherwise I think it works.

OK, I got it. Today I had reinstalled FW from SUS with full wipes, then installed ES Explorer and U-Disco. As a last step I disabled "Music beat light effect". The general order of actions is following: 1. I launch U-Disco, choose a Coloured beat with any colour, and Speakers as an Audio source; 2. I launch Walkman and play any song – LEDs are flashing; 3. I stop the playback in Walkman and open any other song in ES Explorer – it works as well; 4. I stop the song and quit U-Disco, plug in headphones, then repeat the first step; 5. I launch Walkman and play any song – nothing happens; 6. I switch to ES Explorer and try my luck there – no success; 7. Then I return to Walkman, start playback and then plug the headphones out – LEDs still aren't flashing; 8. I simply switch to any other song inside Walkman and voila! Everything works as a charm again even after plugging the headphones back in! 9. But when I switch the song once more with the hp's inserted – LEDs flicker several times and die out. I've tried any possible variations, different headphones. Tried to reset the phone after installing and so on – nope.
What can be the reason of such a behaviour? Something is obviously not working as it should (quite possibly it's my phone) if you experience no such issue, but what? I would be endlessly thankful for any ideas or suggestions.

Good description. Now I can reproduce it also.
I have no idea why it behaves like that though. It's not like that on Xperia U.
It might be a bug in the audio framework, but I really don't know.
thx.. its work and awesome
Version 1.7 is out.
It adds some effects that use the camera flash instead of the illumination bar.
Using the camera flash does not require root, and it will also work on most other devices as well.
The new effects are are a flash strobe light and also lighting the flash according to the beat of the music.

It seems like the LEDS only work when music goes out throught internal speaker. When you have Headphones or bluetooth speaker connected, no LED will light up. With and Without U-disco

Easiest thing to try is:
wm size 1920x1080
In ALT&F1 screen; if your tv is 1080p - this will also cause the PC screen icons to shrink
Alternatively there are probably so grub video=* command to look into.

wm = window manager;
open terminal or press ALT&F1 and type wm to see for yourself;
You can use it to override the reported screen size; it might work in your case if you TV is simply mirroring the PC display; try it and report back.
And you can always revert the PC size back with wm size reset

Try adding: video=DVI-I-1:[email protected]
Or whatever resolution you need to the grub command line
Or perhaps HDMI-A-1 instead of DVI-I-1
Look at /sys/class/drm/ for possible connectors [DVI/HDMI/eDP] to use.

I know this thread is kinda old but has anyone figured this out? I've tried everything possible and I still get the small screen output. I like using this but the Asus screen is too small.
The easiest way I found was to adjust it on the kernel command line. Just add DPI=220 to the linux boot line in grub. If that's too big/small adjust the number.
The easiest way to do that is, at bootup in grub, select the option to edit the boot command. I think that's "e". Then find the line that says "linux some stuff" and go to the end of the line and add the "DPI=220". Then press F10 or whatever to boot.
Or look in this thread where they do a better job of explaining it than I do.

Dude thanks a lot for this. The only part that helped me the most is the boot command where you have to press "e". I was all thinking it was a file in the installation folders. :silly:

Great, glad to be helpful. I want to make sure you realize that "e" edit is only temporary. To make it permanent, you'll have to find the "grub.cfg" file someplace on your computer, and edit it to make the changes permanent.

It won't work with note 4 marshmallow stock. It works only with s7 or note 7 based roms.anyway if you try I'll give you apk file Make a backup before try .do not install as normal apk open root browser and just copy to system/privapp and set permission rwrr restart device. Let me know if it works or not.there are many apps available in playstore for AOD but they drains battery a lot.and also there is bug with brightness .have to click power button couple of times to make brightness normal.

You can't get AOD work only with apk. I heard that AOD not only depends on application. It's also depends on kernel and still any note 7 or s7 ported note 4 roms doesn't fully support AOD features.
try the app always on amoled beta from the playstore as that works perfectly on a note 4 or any amoled screen
always on display

ok i already know that this is probably in the wrong section but my post count is not high enough to post in other section
i have my rooted verizon note 4 (sm-910v) i rooted it my phone with dr.keaton rom for the s7edge and its awesome everything works great
i seen that the always on display does not work like everyone said so i tried my self to make it work and like other people are saying you can see it in settings but cant see it on the shut off screen .......
well i can i went to the internet and typed in samsung aod apk and downloaded 1.7.3.4 and when in google play and downloaded fx files explorer with the root add on for it then went into sysyem root found priv app the aodservice and deleted everything that was in folder and copied my new aod in then added a second copy of it as well i named one AODService.apk and named the second one AODService.apk.bak and set both security permissions to 644
and taa daa it works you can go to settings turn it on open it up change clocks etc and even see it on the lock screen know but the problem is that its very dim hard to see it
anyone in here with more knowledge then me to go into the xml settings or what ever you call it to change the brightness setting or what ever so you can actually see it better on the lock screen
lots of people could not even get it to the lock screen or even get it to turn on i figured that all out just need someone with more knowledge now to fix the brightness of it and we will all have working aod
