Well everyone, I decided to pick up the "Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE" with its long name. I didn't even bother using the Stock rom longer than 5 minutes before I had AOKP on it. Here are my first impressions.
The build quality is great. My main gripe about Samsungs phones, is that they all feel cheap. The LTEVO feels great in hand, with its weight and materials. I really like the aluminum band around the device as well.
The camera is second to none out of all of the camera phones I've used to date.
The screen is insanely good. I cannot get over how clear things are, and it might be just me but I swear the surface feels more slick than most displays out today.
Over all battery life has been impressive as well, but that could very well be due to the extensive tweaks I've enabled on my current rom, Pacman rom.
Now, my only issue with this phone is the sound output level. It is so low, that I literally cannot hear it at max volume if I'm sitting on it. I've tried everything possible from CDMA workshop, to QPST to Volume +. Nothing has worked thus far. Is this a common issue or should I try to return it to Amazon for a replacement, or go through sprints TEP (I pay the 11.00 one) and get a refurbished one?
How are you managing to sit on it and not bend it?

lol I think you guys are too cautious about your phone. I'm 6'0 and 240-250lbs and I don't worry at all about it bending/snapping/breaking/being crushed/disappearing.
Of you flashed AOKP then you gave away the "camera that was second to none."
The aosp camera is not the same as on sense.

Agreed, sense cam is MUCH better, ...but sense is not. I just was using sense last few days and it's pretty noticeable.
As for volume, yes, it is very low. But, if you're using AOKP from tmartin build 3 or 4, you can use the volume fix zips that are in his thread, and I think they're in B-reezys code name android OP. There's a 68 a 70 and a 72. I used the 70, worked well. I Dont know if they work with the more recent builds, the bases and kernels have changed a lot since they were made.
Good luck.

I flashed on PAC ROM too thanks it actually did increase the volume. Is 70 the best one? How are the other fix zips???
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Those zips break VVM and some other stuff on newer builds. I can't remember off the top of my head what all it breaks, but I'll see if I can't dig it up.
I use Google voice, it's too much of a benefit being able to text from Google voices Web page from my number without having to worry about apps like mighty text or airdroid etc.

And it'll be the Evo LTE or the SGSIII.
I have handled both and like the Evo more. (rocking a Photon currently)
My one question: is there a RELIABLE AND BUG FREE workaround yet for the botched multi-tasking??
If not, I think that will ruin my experience.
Thanks.
Nope, even with everything I've tried it is still crwp when compared to other phones I've owned, specially stock android 4.1.

I tried multiple roms and so far it seems there is no fix.
For example I was on the web browser. Backed out with the home key to go to home screen. I then went to settings to change my display settings went back to browser and the whole page had to reload and refresh.
My GS2 and Galaxy Nexus was better then this phone in the performance department.
Not to mention after you start installing apps and setting up your home screens the phone just gets slower and slower and less snappy.

Yep. It's bad.
Bad enough that my lte is sitting in a drawer as I use an alpha cm9 build on my evo 3d. Multitasking, background downloads stopping, and overall sluggishness compared to stock drove me away.

Jelly Bean will be running on the LTEVO any day now, which will mitigate the multi-tasking issue. With that said, I've tried both and the LTEVO was the clear winner for me. The Galaxy is way too plasticy for me.

Nope. Just this phone. I returned this phone due to crappy gps, lag and horrible multi tasking. Having to keep my screen on to download something was unacceptable. I'm on a s3 now and xda app was still on the last Page I viewed yesterday evening and I've played a few games and run a few other apps. Gps is best I've ever experienced on a phone. Besides the camera and display HTC failed on this phone.
Is it just me who notices that the evo doesn't really multi task well? When ever I jump back to an app using the recent apps button the app reloads or refreshes. For example I'm playing a game, pause the game, shoot a few texts, check my email, come back to the game and it restarts. Bte I'm not rooted and have just installed the latest update. Thank you much.

Can't speak for sense 4.1, but 4.0 butchered multi tasking. It greatly limits the amount of simultaneous processes running in the background. I could not go back to sense at this point.

There are already a few threads about this, also from the Q&A sticky at the top of this very forum:
Racer Of All said:
Q: Multitasking does not work like in previous phones, why?
A: Pretty much the phone kills applications off relatively quickly. Most ROMs have addressed this issue and you should receive better multitasking while running them. If you do not want to run a ROM a fix some people found is to go into settings> developer options scroll to the bottom and select "At most 4 processes" under Background process limit.

So no, there's no real fix for sense based ROMs. Most of the ROMs help alleviate this issue but none outright fix it. HTC also claims that this is their intended behavior and that there is no issue with multitasking, so don't expect an official fix from them.
AOSP or CM10 is your only current option.

Sounds like the developer option/fix will drain battery. Do you guys know if the sg3 multi-task better than the evo? I just picked up the phone and still experimenting on it. If all goes well ill keep the phone. So far I like everything. To me, the cons are battery and multitasking.
Otherwise everything else is great.

The phone will outlive the battery. I've had my og evo for 2.5 years. The oem battery doesn't last more than 4 hours anymore. Thank goodness for the gorilla battery, it made my og evo last longer and feel new again. Otherwise I woulda jumped on the 3d or design. Glad I didn't.

No, I highly doubt that.
Theres no room for a bigger battery. You would have to replace like half the phone if you were to make some sort of extended battery cover.
Has anyone ever thought of making a plain phone rom? The only thing it does is make calls? It would be like 30mb or less rom, insane boot times, underclocked, insane battery life. Might have texting as well. This would be mainly for giggles but might be a fun project for someone to do.

Would be cool to give it a monochrome theme. Make it green with black text like the first LCD sprint phones.
Or have a Nokia style, with signal bars on left, battery bars on right then date and time in center.
Would be a novelty I guess. They have text messaging apps that have this theme. Becomes an eyesore faster than u would think.

I too saw that on Reddit. I tried it out on my Evo running Stock w/ Goodies, and on my Nexus 7. Installed, rebooted, and played a bit to let things "settle in", and there is definitely a noticeable improvement in speed and responsiveness, on what were already pretty swift and smooth devices.
I haven't tried it yet, but will soon. If this works out in the long run, hopefully the devs can put this in their roms. I wonder if Google knows about this...
Anyone do a quadrant on this yet? I'm curious if it really works or its just a placebo. Also, how is battery life?

From what little I know about entropy pools, the larger this pool (a pool of random actions right?) is & the faster your programs/inputs are able to access it. The more responsive they'll be.
I could be very wrong but this is what I assume is happening here.
This pool that continusly dumps & fills for however many seconds is about 300-400 nomally on our device. With the tweak the pool is 3000+, I think the tweak also increases the speed of the refresh to access the pool by 1 second.
So 1 second (every second this -> 4 digit figure randomly fills & dumps) + 3000+ accessable random numbers (actions) vs. undetermined number of seconds & a pool avg or 300-400.
Again I'm guessing. I haven't spoke of this since my Eee PC & that might've been for a kernal.
I imagine it as a hand/s repeatedly reaching for a few hundered chocolates spinning in a whirlwind (before) & a ton of random chocolates with even faster hands reaching for a few thousand chocolates spinning in the whilrwind (after).
Running my mind ragged whether I should get the S4, the HTC One or the Moto X (or Droid Maxxx) (I know I know, camera. I know.)
What I was wondering was, since the S4 is Super AMOLED, does it have the ability to incorporate the active display that the Moto X has or is Super AMOLED a totally different beast?
Ehh it can.. But it doesn't have the Motos low power chip to handle the notifications and pulse the screen, so any 3rd party app you install to do it, will kill your battery.

Agreed, I do like the s4 more than I figured I would tho, signal reception is just as good as the razr hd it replaced, (was worried as every sammy I had before had horrible reception), Battery life really isnt bad and I regularly get 24 hrs with normal use, the screen is absolutely beautiful, performance is great, and the camera just blows the razr hd's away. I think the hardware is solid... so any software lumped on to pilot it will do well. I tend to like the uncluttered look and feel of the stock camera. I am going by today to check out the s4 again.
