When I try to install the premium version of Rom Manager i get "youre trying to replace a system app , do you want to continue ?" .
I click yes and then get "App not installed"
Any help or suggestions plz ?
Thanks
do you have root access? because that is necessary to change any system app in any case. Super User should pop up if you do have root. If it does not, maybe you accidentally denied it root privileges on first start.
Yes im sure its rooted and i checked Superuser logs on rom manager.
"created allowed allowed" and its in the allowed list.
Im guessing the installation is failing because its a system app thats in use or something ?
Since its a system app and installed via CM7 i cant even delete it.
It doesnt show in the installed apps list.
Any help is appreciated.
There is a directory under the /system folder I believe(bin?). Under that directory are a series of apk files and I bet there is still a file there for the rom manager. If you remove that with root explorer or something similar you should be good to go.

To anyone having a similiar problem this is how I solved it.
-remount system/app dir to RW
-delete offending APK
-remount /data/data to RW
-delete offending dir (in rommanger's case it was com.koushikdutta.rommanger
-reboot
-reinstall.

Hello everyone!
I am trying to install the Vanilla Mms.apk I downloaded from this forum
I Am running VanillaRom from GrdLock.. So.. I have root
When I try to "adb remount" so I can push this file..
"adb remount operation not permitted" .. So I am unable to get to the "Push" command
Also tried using Astro File Manager .. -dr file permissions on the /system/app folder not letting me copy paste the Mms.apk file..
What Am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any help
Do you have root explorer? Maybe you would have better luck with that. You could probably remove the one your rom comes with under /system/app and place the new .apk onto your sd and move it to /system/app. That's what I usually do when adb doesn't work for me.
I downloaded an awesome app called Ghost commander. It Required superuser rights and it was able to remount, copy to system/app. Then I remounted it & rebooted it, installed it, and it worked.

Hi,
I want to over-right the framework-res.apk file to mod the battery icon but in Root explorer it says the file is read-only and when I try Android Commander it says I need root to do this. I know I have root working as titanium backup works. So how comes I can't copy over this file?
You need to mount your system patition as r/w.
Before pasting the modified framework-res.apk, click on the "mount r/w" button at the top of the Root Explorer window. Then you'll be able to overwrite it.
Don't forget to click the button again (which is now "mount r/o") to remount the system partition as read only again.

Using root eksplorer to push framework.apk is a good way to get the boot loops, so remember to check that the new framewourk.apk it is the same version you are running.

Right, it is actually very recommended to make this check even when using ADB or ODIN to push a new framework-res.apk version. I got myself into many bootloops skipping this test when I had my first Android phone
I have deleted new market to get back old market, and I followd this procedure:
Code:
Procedure to use
Make copy of both downloaded files in your SD card.
Mount system as RW and delete the files name “Vending.APK” and “MarketUpdater.APK” from /system/app by the help of file explorer/Root explorer app.
Also do it manually by deleting the folders com.android.vending and com.android.vending.updater in /data/data.
Now reboot the phone.
Now again mount your file system as RW by File explorer/Root explorer.
Now after it copy the downloaded file “updater.apk” in /system/app/ from SD card.
Reboot the phone again.
Again mount your file system as RW by the help of explorer apps after restart.
Copy the downloaded file “market.apk” in /system/app/ from SD card.
Reboot the phone again.
That’s all.
But now I can't run market anymore, after hard reset I have these mesage from:
(process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly
now I can't install any version of market, please help
i think u forgot to give proper permission to the file. those step also didnt mention about it. improper permission for any file in /system/app folder can even resulting to bootloop.
Also, to get back old market, just uninstall market updates, start the market, then when it can run immediately go to titanium backup to freeze market updater. In my experience even mounting correct permissions may not work for some provided market apks.
Thanks for your answer, i dolved the problem with flashing to 2.3.4

Search xda for the market. It's in the themes and app section. Install in like a normal app.
@consegregate thanks for your help, I will search it
Hi all.
I'm trying to copy some files to the system partition after enabling write on read-only partitions and remounting it and everything is success, but when I restart the phone, files get deleted and partition back to original. I tried ES file explore and Total Commander.
Galaxy S2, cMIUI 2.10 JB
Hmm.. seems like a hard question!

Hey,
no not a hard question but a bit confusing
So the copy to system works without probs?
Do u have root-enabled on it?
U can try Solid explorer once, too, to be sure.
CHEERS
I enabled root explorer and I mounted the file system to be writable, yes I have a rooted phone.
I can copy to system root folders anything (media files), the files stay there until I reboot the phone then they disappear, they get deleted maybe? how to disable that?
Thanks

Copy files and have a look for root-acces request (should be asked for Solid, if it's new)
The copy/replace the file.

Thanks Hannibal for reply, I got no luck on doing it, they still get removed after reboot. Is there a way to flash these files that I want to copy to system as an update.zip?

Sure there's a way, but I can't help u with it, sorry.
With new Titanium Backup u can create flashable .zips but for sure only from isntalled apps.
Maybe u have a look at google. I remind for a tool which u just say what u wanna flash an it creates the flashable .zip.
Much success....

Edit: Sorry but couldn't answer u yesterday.
XDA had a prob for a while
Such a question.
There is an application, you need to copy from my RAW folder / system on the phone and reboot it. I am a novice, and questions are:
How to get SU? How to mount (and whether it is necessary) folder / system? How to hold up?
Do not judge me, I'm from Ukraine and my English is bad...
---
There are programmers? Does not interest me how to do it by hand. I need a sample code in Java. ORDER THIS, UNDERSTAND??? I'm an advanced user Android, porting firmware, writing programs, and so on. I need an answer programmer!

SU - superuser > this is the root management app !
when you root your phone, you will find this in your phone !
and if you deleted it you can get it from playstore !
next I didn't understand whether you needed to copy an app from /system/app or copy to /system/app
anyway I will answer both >
no need to mount /system for these functions .
root your phone,
then download any root browser,
then if you want to copy an app from /system/app then just copy it and paste it in your sd card etc (no reboot required).
OR if you want to copy an app to /system/app then copy the app from whereever you have stored it and paste it in /system/app and set permissions as rw-,r--,r-- and then reboot !

No. I am writing a program. How to do it by hand or through the Recovery I know. It means you need Java!
You must root your device if u want to mod your system... cause if u dont have superuser user access, impossible to mod your /system... default set in system is r/o if you want to modding you must set system to r/w
