Have the Galxy Player YP-G1 running 2.3.5 and being unable to root using various methods. I have Kies installed and have placed it in USB debugging mode.
Using Doomlord's one click rootkit, I get the following message:
failed to copy 'files superuser.apk' to '/system/app/./superuser.apk' read-only galaxy player 4.0 followed by cleaning and then stuck on "rebooting."
Using SuperOneClick 1.9.5 it gets stuck on "running psneuter." and it doesn't even get that far on newer versions of SuperOneClick.
I have tried this with 2 different computers with no success. Any tips or guides to help me trouble shoot this would be appreciated. Have rooted a device with many more steps involved before (Galaxy Player old version) so not having this simpler one work is a bit frustrating.

Might wana check out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20916150
See the post from transportguy 1st and then go to klin1344's post a few down.
Hope that helps
other options, there is a US stock but rooted .tar you could flash with Odin, or any of the custom ROM's are prerooted, or the heimdall restore to stock thread by Zaclimon files are prerooted, I believe the first night I had the player I rooted it with superoneclick 2.2 also ditch keis and just install the samsung drivers, no reason to have that crappy bloatware on your PC.
Also is your PC windows 8? this seams to be coming up as an issue across many droid devices when trying to root.
Did you make sure to check Settings --> Applications ---> Development---> and check USB debugging?
Related
I tried using insecure firmware (KF1 and KF3) and both superoneclick and s2root don't recognize my device even with debugging mode on.
Anyone manage to make it work?
I have tried to start rooting, but supposedly you need kies to work.
My kies constantly tells me "devicemanager.exe has stopped working" when I try to connect it. So until its fixed I can't root it (and no one will help me )
That said, I'veheard rooting is successful, but getting an unlock key has been not so successful.
i used cf-root and now have villianrom 2.1 installed and working. yeah i don't think unlock works yet
rooted and unlocked here...
the conventional rooting methods do not work on the s2, as the poster before me mentioned you have to use CFroot to flash the custom kernel, that will automatically root it, once you have done that you can search for the galaxy s unlock by helroz on the market, and it works... thats how i did mine.
Hi, i have used the process on this website to try to root as well as SuperOneRoot and Vibrant one click root and none of them seem to work!
When i have to go into recovery mode it says E:\ signature verification failed
According to superoneroot my phone is rooted even though it has no superuser. Also, i downloaded a terminal emulator and typed in su and it says permission denied. Furthermore, i downloaded a root checker and tried that and it doesn't seem to work...
After looking on the internets for this problem it seems to have something to do with the update tmobile sent out after there froyo update. But i didn't really understand how to solve the problem...
so, can someone explain to me how to root the phone as of now?
Well... you could flash CWR and then flash a ROM (damn near all of them) that already comes rooted
YouTube a tutorial.

Get vibrant tool box make sure you go on your vibrant and turn on usb debugging, hit root in the program and BAM! (also install drivers if you need to)
The vibrant is the easiest phone to root YouTube it like randomfied said
SuperOneClick
Hey make sure you get the latest version of SuperOneClick, make sure USB Debugging is enabled, and make sure you computer recognizes your vibrant (The best way is to get the drivers from samsung/t-mobile and install them anyway). I have rooted from 2.1 and 2.2 both with SuperOneClick.
Hi guys.
I'm trying to root my SGS2 running Jelly Bean. So I followed this guide:
[How To] Root Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 from techofweb (which I can't link to. )
I downloaded Odin, installed Kies, started Odin, put my SGS2 into downloade mode and started to flash. However, I can't seem to get past the "SetupConnection" message, even though my drivers after many an attempt should be correctly installed on Win7 64-bit. I've tried two different computers and two different cables, and a lot of different USB ports.
Any ideas what I could do to fix this?
Why not root with philz kernel.

Mainly due to the fact that it's my first root, so I figured I just keep with the Jelly Bean root. I haven't checked any of the custom ROMs out there, besides from the fact that I know some of my friends are using CyanogenMod.
But no matter which ROM I would be flashing to, it should still be able to get past 'SetupConnection'?
Philz Kernel is jb. Easy safe way to root your stock jb Rom. But never mind
Also you don't need to use Odin with philz. Download zip flash done
Kill kies applications.
Trust xda, not those sites.

Hello XDA!
As the name of this thread implies this is the last resort to rooting my GT-p1010 1st gen Galaxy Tab. It is currently running some version of android 2.3.6. I say some version because a while back my father was successful at achieving root access, then something went wrong. Eventually he got some random ROM on it that has the KERNEL VERSION [email protected]#1 I have no experience with dealing with kernels so I would not know if it is stock or not. I have hwo ever rooted and install and custom recovery and ROM on my kindle fire, so I do have experience with this type of thing.Let me get to the point:
I have tried the newest version of Odin and this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386643. I keep getting "Can't open the serial(COM) port" I also am positive that I have all of the correct drivers install for the use of Odin.
I have also tried a manual root and used both GingerBreak and psneuter with no avail.
I have tried installing Z4root and the GingerBreak.apk file as well.
I have tried each method under numerous circumstances and variables!I have also done some extensive homework on each of the failed attempt I have.
I probably should not be posting this thread here, but I want it to get as much attention as possible. I have been working on and off this for 3 weeks and have decided that it is time to come here. ANY REPLY IS MUCH APPRECIATED!
Today my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 updated through the Verizon network. Previous to the update I was able to use Foxfi without any problems but I now get error messages and cannot. I have tried the tether option and it will work for short periods of time but eventually will kick me off. I really have enjoyed using Foxfi or 1-click tether in the past with this phone and on my iPhone 4 and don't want to pay for garbage Time Warner.
After searching this site it seemed best to try and root my phone and try another app to allow Wifi. I downloaded Motochopper and ran it through the terminal on my Mac. However, after going through the process several times i saw a failure message when it tried to root, the Superuser would not update and after checking with Root Checker Basic the phone was not rooted. I also tried using SU Update Fixer to no avail.
I have also tried to use Heimdall which unexpectedly quits so I cannot switch to the prerelease kernel, try rooting again, then switching back to the stock kernel.
I would really appreciate any help on how to root using OSX.
To be clear, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 on the Verizon network with unlimited data. Model SCH-I545, Version 4.2.2, Kernel 2595, Build MI1 and am in developer mode with USB Debugging active, Allowed mock locations, no SD card and nothing seems to work.

You shouldn't be trying motochopper on MI1 - use the "Root de la Vega" method in the Android Development forum for this phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487142
That should work with Heimdall as well as ODIN.

What he said. ^^^^^^^^^
I have an old NetBook with Windows 7 that I use for this kind of stuff.
I run Parallels 9 with a burrowed Win 7. Helps to use the system that developers are on and everything works perfectly. Every now and then I get usb issues but I just reinstall drivers and I'm good to go.
Has anyone flashed the Root de la Vega PDA image using Heimdall? Is there any risk of bricking a phone when flashing the PDA image (that is, if something goes wrong, can the stock image be reflashed or the root image be flashed using Odin instead)?
