If you are s-off do not take the update, there is a 50/50 chance you will loose it and could be weeks before there is a method to get s-off after the update.

who, the tech savy Kao?
I was wondering if someone would post this. Lots of people getting excited about the upgrade don't realize it may take a couple of days to get a good working Rom. Well, one that will not block or stop other things.
Ahh...the dreaded hboot scares. Will wait for a custom rom + a skimmed through firmware package.

Also, if the firmware files don't flash the first time, don't edit the contents of the .zip file and change the device code to make it flash. I bricked an EVO 4G LTE doing that last summer. This was the reason xHausx posted a warning to re-download the firmware files on a stock rooted ROM he uploaded, lol. Lesson learned!
Obvious is obvious....

What does the bootloader look like on it? I'm guessing it's locked but I haven't seen anyone say for sure one way or the other.

It looks like the same hboot as the leaked ruu so I take it the rom is the same too? If not then that means htc probably could have shipped it with an unlocked one but didn't.

8 days and counting, can't wait.
I spent a good 6 hours last night prepping my Evo 4G for trade in, unrooted it and installed the stock 3.70 RUU, which finally gave me the 4.22 OTA update as well. Had the "main too old, update failed" problem for the better part of 5 hours, solved it by re-doing the mtg-eng.img through adb, the 3.70 RUU went on just fine after that.

Nah it ships with 2.3.3. Kind of lame, but the big question is the bootloader in the 3vo encrypted.

darn.......it probably is like the htc sensations is but it will be unlocked with an ota or ruu most liekly
True, but it will nice if HTC did not encrypt the bootloader. If the bootloader is encrypted, it all comes down to HTC keeping their word.

Just to inform that is impossible to s-off and root the French EVO 3D because the HBOOT is not recognized by the unrevoked & alpharev's software.
French users have to wait now... again & again
I doubt the hole the alpha rev used has already been patched; you'll likely get the s-off after a week or so once they get a chance to look at it.
Did you try Temp Root?

Get back on topic and stop bickering. Since your hboot is 1.49 it is not incorporated into revolutionary. There for it doesn't recognize your phone and you can't generate a beta key. Alpha rev has some very talented devs give them a little. They have their program setup in binary so even if HTC downloaded the program it would be very hard to decode from what little strings could be decoded. So with that being said, your hboot might still very well be vulnerable to their attack. So keep your hopes up
Hopefully that answers all of your questions and you can close the thread lol

my bad forgot how flash happy ppl get here. This was pulled this morning off my phone. Its the new OTA update Sprint/HTC pushed out today for us. Figure its about the same as the Sensation got before but haven't gone through it at all yet.
This is for the Devs to add to their ROMs as I pulled this off my phone this morning.
so now they are removing CIQ? thats odd, oh well, thanks for the post. I shall check it out
Hope somebody makes this flashable. Don't want a whole Rom update for a few file changes.

dunno haven't looked into it yet myself. i assume its along the lines of the sensation update they got weeks ago, but dunno. And likely Treve will have the answer before most get a chance to look at it.
Hell i haven't even looked at all the files that were included in the OTA zip myself. I saw there was an OTA update for today and went ahead and downloaded it to post up for the devs.
Also remember if its still in there it might not be a big deal. The big issue with it all before was the fact that anyone could create an app and pull very important information off peoples phones b/c HTC/Sprint/whoever didn't secure everything well. Also they didn't have the "opt out" stuff working correctly or at all.
They could have at least fixed the missing mirror app, and the shutter sound in the camera. Were the only HTC phone that they removed those from.

Probably, but who knows? A new exploit or something will be required since the exploit lazypanda uses seems to have been patched. Only time will tell. And for future reference, questions like this should go in Q&A

I'm sure it'll come sooner or later. For future reference, I would.t flash anything OTA until bootloaders and such have been stripped out as they can cause root and s-off exploits to be lost, as you now know ;-)

After hours of mess ups I've finally created a COMPLETE (extremely detailed) video (guide) on how to To S-OFF, Unlock, Install Custom Recovery for the HTC EVO 3D (CDMA). There are 4 different parts. The first 2 parts are for the users that have already unlocked boot loader, installed recovery and a ROM. If this is your first time doing any of this to your stock HTC evo 3d (CDMA) then you can skip to part 3. In each video there will be a link in the description for the next part. I hope this works for everyone that watches it and please like, sub. And pass it on to others who need help with this! Thanks again to everyone who has helped me s-off my phone and do all i have done to it today! I LOVE XDA!! Please let me know of anything you don't understand or any problem you run in to (if you do).
Also, the videos might seem long I just want to assure that your HTC EVO 3D is s-off, unlocked, and recovery installed. Please watch all 4 parts and your phone will be all of this!
I am using windows and only know how to do this for (WINDOWS).
Link to part 1 [GUIDE]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfgar9Flb_c
Please keep this thread Alive as long as possible! Thanks!
I will try this week to look over all of the videos again and create a text [GUIDE] as well.
