[Q] Am i doing this correctly? updating GT-9100t - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I just bought a used GT-9100t yesterday, and i spent around 5 hours just researching how to update it with a newer version of Android, i'm currently running 2.3.3, and i am about to follow the following guide :
galaxy-s-ii-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-test-firmware on SamMobile (Sorry i can't post a linke due to my "noob" state).
i've read about the -rather software- differences between the international 9100 version and the 9100t, which in turn and as the forum posts said has a modified/tuned modems to get better signals in the specific areas they are sold at (Australia, Israel ..).
My question is as the title, am i doing this correctly? or i will end up with a bricked phone if i followed the above guide? if the answer is yes i will carry on, if no, kindly supply me with a guide that matches my case.
Thank you very much, this is my first post ever, i truly apologize if i am not following the guidelines in anyway or form i watched the video (funny btw) and i hope i didn't bother anyone of you.

And yes, to answer my question, i've tried it and it works flawlessly so far, no problems at all, made calls and wifi and everything just followed the guide.

[Q] Does Phone Need To Be Unlocked To Flash Firmware?

Hello.
I've looked and looked and looked but cannot find a definitive answer to my question. My sincerest apologies to those who think it's another stupid question.
Does my Galaxy Ace on Orange need to be unlocked before I can flash new firmware? I have not done enough posts yet to mention websites so I hope you'll understand the following www sammobile com - dots in appropriate places!! - stated that I either get the phone unlocked or use provider firmware. I am currently on S5380BVKQA but I hear good things about both KPH and KS2.
I am a noob, but a determined noob. I will not let a minor hindrance defeat me before I've even begun my Android experience.
Cheers

Help Please : 2.3.6 -- 4.5.145 Bootloader unlock and Root HELP

Hi everyone,
I'm a complete noob when it comes to this stuff. Recently, my phone has been running really slow, and I remembered people saying that rooting and flashing custom roms will help increase the efficiency of the phone. I've been looking through tons of threads and countless google searches trying to find a tested and working method for BL unlock and root for a stock MB860 on Android 2.3.6 -- 4.5.145. Yet I haven't found anything. Can I get some suggestions/help? Thanks.
PS - I plan on getting the SGS4, but till I see some actual benchmarks/comparisons between the two chipsets that they phone is shipping with, I'll have to rely on my Atrix 4G. And right now, as I said earlier in the post, it's acting extremely sluggish in every sense of the word.

Wow thanks. Everyone posting on there says it's real easy to use. Unfortunately no one has system version 4.5.145 like I do. I'm not sure how important that actually is but I have read that version does matter. But it is nice to see people have used it successfully used it with 2.3.6. I posted on that thread and am waiting for a response. Thanks again.

No SN after flashing stock ROM

Hi guys, I know this has been discussed a lot but I have no idea what to do next, here's what happened:
So one of my friends bought a used galaxy S3. The next day, he noticed that the IMEI inside the phone was actually different than the one shown inside Android Settings, so I just assumed maybe the motherboard has been changed or something like that. Anyway, I proceeded to install CM10, but after trying it out for a couple of days he complained the device had been crashing a lot and that he wanted to go back to the stock ROM. So this morning I downloaded the right 4.1.2. ROM and flashed via Odin, after which I had noticed I wasn't able to make any calls whatsoever. After reading up on this I checked the SN, which was now 00000000000, bun even after rooting / trying the ariza patch, the phone is not working anymore. I have no EFS backup, and was thinking about trying to flash the modem next to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43946365#post43946365 , is this the right fix? If not, can I actually do anything about it now? Thanks.
Faqs and guides its all posted we don't need identical threads .
Sorry, I know there are a lot of other threads like this one being opened all the time, but even after reading my ass off today I couldn't figure it out, which is why I decided to post here, I would really appreciate a link to a relevant topic, if a full answer is too much to ask. Thank you.

I am not dumb, I do need help with ROMs

I really need some help. I have read through most of the guides, and watched YouTube videos, but there is something I am missing or just not understanding. Does anyone have a step-by-step instruction guide for how to install a custom ROM to get my Vibrant from 2.3.6 to Android 4.4? So far, all I have succeeded in doing is bricking a phone, which fortunately, Samsung repaired for me. ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not 100%, but I don't believe you have a Samsung Vibrant. The Samsung Vibrant never received an official 2.3.6 update and even had you installed a custom 2.3.6 ROM I'm not too sure Samsung would repair a rooted/hacked phone (although you could have gotten lucky). What exactly is your phone's model number? If it's not "T959" (and instead is "T959V" or "I9000M", "I9000B", "I9000T", "I9000", etc.) it could explain why your phone bricked the last time you attempted to install a custom rom. If it is "T959" then let me know and I'll see if I can whip you up a guide. :good:
Wow, that is incredibly kind of you!!!:good:
My model number is SGH-T959V, Firmware version 2.3.6, Baseband T959VUVKJ6. I have ODIN, Heimdall, superoneclick, and CyanFox. Just don't know how to make them all work together.
Thank you again!
Ahh, I thought so.. Although the model number is similar to the Vibrant (SGH-T959), your device's model number is SGH-T959V, meaning the device in your possession is not a Vibrant. To be exact, your device is the Galaxy S 4G which has its own dedicated forum here. Vibrant ROMs won't work properly on your device, nor would Galaxy S 4G ROMs work properly on the Vibrant. Sorry bud. From what I see it doesn't appear that the GS4G has CyanFox available for it, however, it does appear to have quite a few other KitKat ROMs for you to tinker with, all of which can be found here.
Lastly, it may not hurt to repost your question here. By posting it in the GS4G forum I'm sure you'll get the help you're looking for.

[Q] Advice on Atrix 4G Root/Unlock/ROM

I know there are a thousand threads on Rooting/Unlocking and Custom ROM's for the Atrix, because I've spent the last 3 days reading every one I could find. However, most of them appear to be very dated and often conflicting. As I'm coming to the game a little late I was hoping for some assistance on how to proceed.
Here's what I have;
AT&T Motorola Atrix 4G (I bought this new under contract, kept it for 2 years, upgraded to another phone and this one has been a paperweight for the past 18 months) AT&T will give me an unlock code if I ask, but I'm a little confused by the conflicting reports on whether to do it this way or not.
It's an MB860
FW Version 4.5.141
OS Version 2.3.6
Baseband N_01.77.37P
Webtop WT-1.2.0-110_OLY-6
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
Build 4.5.141
I'd like to Unlock it so I can run a Foreign SIM card, I'd like to Root it so I can add non-approved apps, and I'd like to play with some ROM's, Redpill has some very good user reviews so I'm thinking of giving it a try but I'm not stuck on it.
Obviously don't want to brick the phone, so any advice would be appreciated, the more detailed the better
I have Windows 8.1, Mac OS X, and Windows XP-SP3 computers to work with.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
While certain threads are (or might seem) outdated and/or conflicting, there are also other threads that serve as a kind of index of the most current methods and procedures. That should help you get around. Plus there are threads and guides written especially for noobs...
Yes, the code from AT&T is the safest and simplest way to do SIM unlock. Only important point here is that the device must be running the official Moto/AT&T firmware at the time of unlock. I'm not sure what kind of "conflicting information" you came across, to my knowledge nobody who's used the code as described never had any problems.
As for rooting, regardless of the variant or firmware version of your device, the preinstall method is the one to use. By far the most universal, plus personally and generally I dislike any "automatic", "one-click" or similar methods - for me at least they are usually more trouble than they're worth.
As for playing with ROMs, you first need to unlock your BL, then install a custom recovery, and then you have a shot at ROMs. So quite a wide topic with plenty enough threads created on the subject, so no point in repeating what's already said countless times. By the time you're done with other things mentioned (SIM unlock, rooting) you should be able to find your way around.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've requested an unlock code from AT&T, should be good to go in 48 hours.
In the mean time, is it important that I have it unlocked before I root, or will it matter?
Update
I realize this may seem to be off-topic but I'm not asking for assistance with this newest update, I'm only using the experience to help clarify my concerns about the Atrix.
Waiting for my requisite 24 hours before unlocking the SIM on my Moto Atrix. While I'm waiting i decided to gain a little experience by rooting a Galaxy S5570 and installing a custom Rom.
Like the Atrix there are dozens if not hundreds of threads, videos, tutorials etc for how to accomplish this. I found the most recent one I could that seemed to be a complete tutorial and it was dated from January of this year (much newer than any threads I've found on the Atrix BTW)
Rooting went fine. Confirmed with a Root Test app.
Loaded a CWM 6.0.4.5 recovery package as instructed and ended up bricking the phone. By all accounts this tutorial was for the exact model of phone with the exact same FW and Android version.
This is no big loss as it was a cheap phone that I wasn't using anyway, but it certainly opened my eyes to the risks involved in attempting this procedure on the more costly Atrix.
I'd really appreciate if anyone could point me in the direction of a current procedure for Rooting, Unlocking the Bootloader and installing a custom ROM on the Atrix with the specs from my Original Post. If any of you have the same phone and had success following a particular procedure I would greatly appreciate some links.
I know how forums work, and I know there are always the guys that reply RTFM to every noobs questions, as someone with technical skills in other areas I can generally tell the difference between someone who just doesn't want to bother doing the Due Diligence and someone who is struggling to sort through the myriad solutions to find the one that's right. I really don't want to brick this phone so any pointed advice would be greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile you have ROMs all over the place here in the Atrix 4G section of xda that you are not going to go download, rather you are going to request a ROM for the phone instead. Head over to the development section and download a ROM instead of requesting the necessary resources that are already available to you.
