Do you have java installed?

Yea the regular java that came on the computer

Just to be certain install the actual java jdk. Search for it on Google and it should be the first result. Once that is installed run casual twice. Yes, I said twice. I couldn't get casual to run by just running it once. If I tried to run it a second time it would pop up immediately (without going into task manager and trying to kill any processes after running it the first time). Not sure why I had to do that but it ended up working just fine and I'm on Windows 8 x64.
What version to download?

Do a search here on the forums. There is a link to oracle for windows 8 64bit and 32 bit. Works like a charm.
Keep reading and searching. You will be proud of yourself.

I doubt it...windows 8 is not even a full version yet. Last I knew it was just a trial??
Any apps that will root photon I'm desperate for root, my computer is broken atm... Had root lost it when I had to sbf to fix connection issue....

not atm. you may be able to dl the necessary files right to your phone and use a teminal emulator to root, but i'm new at this stuff so i'm not really sure.
Lol I'm not but only app ik of is gingerbreak which is outdated...

There is an all in one (aio) one click process that actually has a how to video. Not app easy, but still very easy.

I'd just borrow someones computer for 15 minutes. Im sure you know someone who has one. Download all the files to your phone so all you have to do is install the drivers, run the program and uninstall it if they want.
or you can do the dock method at a sprint store if you are brave enough...
I found computer... Is there a linux root method

I rooted the photon only using the phone. Downloaded the file to sd. Then used terminal emulator to run 3 commands..done..so easy.
How

Did you get it figured out yet? Looks like you would be successful using the Photon Torpedo method using just your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216131

Same here, although I did have a few problems after updating Kies a while back.
They were solved by running it in Administrator mode just once; that seemed to "free things up" thereafter.
Might be worth a try (right-click on Kies icon and chose "run as administrator"), bit of a long shot though.
Ill try it and let u know if it works

Kies problem = Kies;
Solution = uninstall and never install again.

AirDroid, Kies Air. Both you launch the app, and you start the web browser on your computer. Then you need to enter the IP the app gives you (usually it's 192.168.x.xxx:8080, depending on your router)
Any available app that allows me to assign specific task remotely?
Say awhile I'm surfing at work, want to download a ROM but my current SD memory is low. I would like to assign my Nexus 7 at home to download the zip remotely via a an app/command from my current phone.
Any ideas?

So I went and did things the hard way (Asian Level Root).
Root was obviously a success, but now I can't get rid of 2 of 3 of the Chinese programs that got installed.
The only program I was able to get rid of was the Shuame market app.
Trying to remove/uninstall any other programs ( KingUser.apk and PinyinIME.apk, et al) via Titanium Backup just results in a screen depicting Andy on his back, front open, big red triangle on top of him.
The tablet does reboot by itself after a minute, but the programs remain.
I did reset the tablet to no effect.
Specs: HP Slate 7, Android 4.1.1, Kernel 3.0.8+, Rooted (obviously).
Where am I screwing up?
Thanks for any assistance.

Use any root explorer and navigate to /system/app and delete the apk of the chinese software.

Thanks. Hadn't thought of that. I was thinking along the lines of a setting I was missing that was preventing Titanium from performing as expected.
