I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to get HULU to work. Thanks!
For WebOS there is a work around, search from it. For CM7, just as simple as downloading the app

There was a recent work around after the patch failed, never tried it, never cared enough too.
As for CM7, why flash anything? There's an app. Granted you must be a subscriber..

Ahh never knew there was a fix for the fix.
Edit: Mind linking?
was working till the webOS upgrade to 3.0.4
this workaround was working until the new webos 3.0.4 the new update...the patch says ” could not find area to patch (unknown file version)
claptop dot com/2011/08/make-hulu-work-on-hp-touchpad/comment-page-1
I fixed hulu with a patch for 3.0.4...
It's an alpha, it's quick and dirty, but it works. Find the patch itself here:
forums DOT precentral DOT net/3218146-post139.html
For some reason I can't upload it here (maybe not enough posts or something).
Ok, after much annoyance and a couple webOS doctors, I think I FINALLY have an all-in-one fairly idiotproof patch...
WARNING!!!!!! If you have already done this patching process manually, this patch MAY NOT WORK! You may break your flash player if you run this patch after having performed the manual work and require a visit to the webOS doctor! DO NOT RUN THIS PATCH UNLESS YOUR TOUCHPAD IS COMPLETELY BACK TO STOCK ON IT'S USER AGENT AND FLASH IDENTIFIER STRING.
Please note, this is an ALPHA patch. It will likely throw an error or two but it should work. You should be able to run this patch and it will install the hulu user agent fix AND the flash fix without requiring a reboot. Again, this is an ALPHA patch and I am not responsible if you install it and it magically borks your touchpad. This will do nothing a webOS doctor won't fix, so gauge your willingness to test this patch on whether or not you'd be ok running a doctor if things go wrong.
To install:
Step one: Download the file attached to THIS post and EXTRACT (unzip) it to an easy to find spot (like your desktop).
Step two: "send" this file (tools > send file) using webosquickinstall to /media/internal
OR: put the touchpad into USB mode and drag/drop this EXTRACTED file to your touchpad (that will automatically put it in the /media/internal directory)
Step three: open a linux command line (tools > linux commandline) in webosquickinstall
OR: open a terminal window on the touchpad itself in xterm (you will need to install xecutah, xserver, and xterm from preware to do this).
Step four: type this exactly into the terminal window:
/media/internal/hulu
The device will very likely pop an error or two (again this is an ALPHA patch), but it should finish up without any real trouble in under 30 seconds. There is NO reboot required.
TADA, HULU works once more! Your app catalog is now broken.
If it's still not working (black screen on videos) you need to remove any adblocking patches you have (adblock or max blocker), delete cache/history/cookies in the browser, and reboot the touchpad. Now Hulu will work.
When you want to fix your app catalog so you can download new programs, go back to the linux command line again (in webosquickinstall) and type:
/media/internal/hulu uninstall.
This will break hulu and fix your app catalog. It'll take 30 seconds or less to complete and you're back in business.
The patch will stay on the device, so you can easily flip back and forth from hulu installed and uninstalled.
Perhaps he doesn't want to subscribe??
There are patches and fixes etc etc for other phones, and I'm sure ultimately its all the same.. its just like the WebOS packages.. Im sure you can apply it on the touchpad, but I haven't done it or anything.. this is to allow you to watch it within a browser of course.. app is great if you pay for it..
Ya Im a poor college kid so I was really wondering what was the latest and greatest modded flash zip file. There are a few million online and I didnt want to have to flash 20 before I got one that worked. In the end I was able to find one that works like a charm so thanks guys!
Hulu!
Uninstall what ever version of adobe flash (if any). Search Vgeezyflash 74 in google, it should be the first post on a "toshiba Thrive" forum. Download the modified adobe flash 11 .apk ("apk" is file for you noobs. Install, and reboot for good luck. Then open the android stock browser (i could never get it to work right on any other), change the user agent to IE6 and delete all cookies, etc. This process worked for me on the Touchpad and on my Nook Color.

takes a few tries but it will go eventually - I've tried either way as well - sometimes shows crash in the middle of the episode and you have to start over - as well as restarting the instance randomly - hit Menu and select TV - starts to spool and eventually will take you to start again
(First post - must go in General forum). Hello. I think I have discovered why some of us are having problems rooting the Hisense Sero 7 Pro tablet. I have downloaded the files (abbreviated) Root.part1.rar and Root.part2.rar from the sero7 website. When I use 7zip to verifiy file integrity, I get a data error on one of the files in one of the archives. Specifically, in Root.part2.rar, the file cwm_touch_recovery.img has an error. Root.part1.rar integrity is fine, however, Root.part1.rar contains a copy of cwm_touch_recovery.img which is correct. I went to the xda thread on this subject (posted by XBOXEXPERT - [DEV/CWM/ROOT/ROM] Hisense Sero 7 Pro CWM Touch Recovery, Factory ROM & My XE-SeroROM) and downloaded the part 1 and part 2 files. In part 1 tests ok, but part 2 gets a data error on file busybox. However, in this set of files, part 2 files are duplicated (except for the usb driver folder, which is empty) in part 1, so what is the need for part 2? Anyway, I was able to recover from the busybox and cwm_touch_recovery files (since they were duplicated). So, should I put all the files in one place to do the rooting?
I want to do this properly and correctly. As an aside, here is a question: in lieu of restoring the stock image, is there a way to remove the Developer Menu from the settings once it has been invoked? Thanks, Dennis.
Problems rooting Sero 7 Pro more info...
Hello. After doing some more experimentation, I've come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with the RAR files (other than having duplicate files and empty folders). I have downloaded (again) the part1 and part2 files from both the sero7 site and the xda site. I can do a file integrity test and it comes out clean. If I run it again, I get an error, always a problem with busybox (crc or data error) or cwm_touch_recovery.img (data error). I have downloaded the files and run the file integrity test on Windows (with 7zip) and Linux (the utility that compresses - it reads zip/rar etc. and can do an integrity test). Maybe you should be using ZIP or other compression program other than rar? How about 7zip? I have cobbled together all the files, including good versions of the busybox file and the cwm_touch_recovery.img file. Hope that's ok. I still don't understand how running a file integrity test can cause a file to go bad. But it seems to be doing just that, but only with busybox and cwm_touch_recovery.img. All for now. Thank you, D.
Sero 7 Pro Root
I have 2 Sero 7 Pro tablets and both are rooted without any issues. I download both rar files and extracted them into the same folder. I did get a message saying "file already exists do you want to overwrite?". I overwrote the file and both rar files extracted into one folder without any errors.
I'm running Windows 7 x64 and had a heck of a time getting Windows to recognize the tablet. I solved this by:
1. Creating a file named adb_usb.ini in C:\Users\Use Name\.android
2. Added this code to the adb_usb.ini: 0x109b
3. Then saved the file and and ran adb devices to verify adb saw the tablet. The table should show up now.
I then ran XESeroRoot.exe and followed the onscreen instructions in the pop up window.
After the program finished. I rebooted my tablet twice and it was good to go....rooted with stock rom.
From there I copied the custom I wanted to install onto my external sd card. I booted into cwm recovery, I wiped everything and then flashed the custom Rom from my external sd card.
Works great.

Also.....I was having an issue with apps crashing to the home screen, such as Adobe Photoshop Touch, and Sims Freeplay on my wife's tablet.
I discovered there was a missing font causing the crash. Check your /system/font folder and make sure DroidSans.ttf and DroidSans-Bold.ttf exist. Once I added the fonts, the apps ran just fine without error.
If install a custom ROM and install the Table UI mod and you experience app crashes. Try re-flashing the Table UI.
My wife's tablet was doing weird things and apps were crashing...turned out to be a corrupt Table UI...I re-flashed and that fixed the issue.
I followed the directions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41875797

My tablet will not power on. When I connect it to the charger the screen flashes a blue lightning bolt (see picture) with what appears to be a charging cable. I left it on the charger for 24 hours, still nothing. Does anyone know what this means and how to solve it. Customer service for Hisense was no help. Told me to ship it to me. I have to pay for shipping.
Black night have you tried a different charger or cable?

If its still getting stuck at boot (bootloop), you might try going into CWM recovery and run "fix permissions". I haven't tried messing with the fonts, but permissions world be my first guess. Fonts need to be in the /system/fonts folder with the permissions of rw-r--r--.
I posted a link below with several methods to change fonts. There is also instructions on how to change the font via adb. So if you can get to recovery you can fix it from there without having to restore a backup.

Richard41, I am having the same problem. I root my Hisense Sero 7 Pro a week ago and it worked perfectly. Then a few days ago I downloaded an app from Google play to change the font on my device. It worked just fine but a day or two later, I went in the app to change the font again, but it immediately took me to Google play where I downloaded it and on the top of the screen it said, "This app is not compatible with your device."
I don't understand why it would say that when I already had it installed. So I left that screen and went back to the font app itself. I selected the font I wanted, it asked if I'm sure I want to change the font to the selected one, I confirmed it and then another pop up screen came up in Chinese or Japanese letters. It looked like it was asking the same question but in another language. I choice what I thought would be yes in English since it was in the was in the same place and then another pop up screen came but I don't know what it said because it was in the same Chinese or Japanese letters with a mixture of a few English letters, but still couldn't comprehend the message. So I figured I just needed to reboot it. I rebooted it, and it has been stuck on the "Hisense Smart" boot introductory screen ever since.

I found out that you're suppose to flash the original stock ROM (unroot it) and start over from there. I never tried it. I just went out and bought a new one.

Trojan in XESeroRoot.exe
There's a Trojan (Trojanware.win32.renfro dot something) in XESeroRoot.exe. Execution halted by Comodo, removed the file and a registry entry. What's up with that??? The usb driver installed just fine, but there's no ADB debugging selection on my Hisense Sero 7 Pro (and yes, I have developer status).
Found the latest install, rooting and new ROM worked like a charm, thx, dolorespark!!
All Current rooting options appear to not be compatible with Fire OS 4.1.1. The most recent option I have found was Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v35. This contains a .bat file that is not consistent with the current file structure of the OS 4.1.1. It appears to be moving the file Special.ab (as part of the restore procedure) to a location on the fire that is no longer a valid path. Attepmting to back up/restore the file com.android.settings, which is not a file on the Fire Hd.
Also, all instructions regarding the process to Root, discuss Endabling ADB via settings>security. There is not a Security selection under Settings; there is Security and Privacy selection.
And the option to enable installation from unknown source is not under Settings>Device, it is located under Settings>Applications.
I seem to get very close but Amazon seems to have it so locked down that I may be buying a new REAL tablet soon.
Has anyone found a viable solution to rooting this Fire Hd?
AFAIK the last gen HD tablets weren't rootable either. I wouldn't get your hopes up. Having CM/PA would be nice but using the Google apps/Launcher hacks you can at least make it much closer to a custom ROM.
Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v35 is for the 2012 Kindle HD (tate). Using this on our 2013 soho Kindles will result in a permabrick.
Fire HD 6 Under OS 4.1.1 and USB Debugging
I have seen people saying that they 'removed USB Debugging' from Fire HD 6 and 4.1.1.
That is not true.
You go to Settings->Device Options and click 7 times on the Serial Number.
You will find that USB Debugging is already turned on when it comes from the factory; how to turn USB Debugging OFF is the problem for some people with their Fire HD 6 under OS 4.1.1.
And, as someone else said, "Apps From Unknown Spaces" should be checked and that is in Settings->Applications
Have not found a method, yet, of rooting the device. However, you can get to what is not rooted. To install APK files, for example, just go to the Amazon App Store (go to Silk, search for 'Amazon App Store' and create a bookmark. Then you will be able to install free apps such as ES Explorer.
You can plug your Fire HD 6 into your computer, open up a folder and go to the Download folder. Then, using ES Explorer you can double-click on the Download folder and install APK files that you have put there.
In that manner I installed a program I had created and it ran perfectly on the Fire.
Thus, if you have the APK for an App; you can install it.
Do you know if there's a way to install the Google Play Store? Isn't it just another APK? Also, I'm trying to install some google apps (gmail, music, youtube etc) and it's not working since I don't have the google services .apk installed. I tried installing the google servies .apk but just get an parcing error

There is a great tutorial on how to get GAPP's working on the HD 6 which only requires a little bit of ADB knowledge.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/themes-apps/how-to-install-gapps-fire-hd6-hd7-t2933523
Unfortunately, the Play Store will not work as it needs root to perform the hack which isn't possible on this device yet (if ever).
No root, but still usable.
Just got three for my kids assuming we would be able to re isntall a decent version of an os on here.
Unfortunately looks like that is not the case.
I had purchesed minecraft from the play store, and when I went to load it up I was being charged the 7 bucks again from the amazon store. Not cool with that.
Fortunately as WowSoftware stated you can still side load any apk you want with out a problem.
Here is what I have been doing:
1) on a device that is linked to google play store:
Install titianum backup, es file explorer
use titanium backup to backup your application
go into the titatium backup folder and find your apk.gz file
move this to a network storage device (jsut for ease, you can copy to your computer if you like)
un .gz the file into a folder.
2) on the fire hd
go to settings and check the box that says allow unkown softwtware to be installed (cant remember the exact wording)
open es file explorer
browse to network store and click on the apk
This will load up what you need (you may need to do the gapps installation if you get no network connectivity issue).
You will need to manually run updates this way.
It's a hack but it works. I'm confident that there will be a root for this device some day, in the mean time I would suggest not running any updates fore fire os.
I have actually been thinking that there may be a way to block the advertisement feed at my router. Just to stick it to the man. If I do this I'll post some info on that.
And the Google play works with this method?

PS: There is an ongoing discussion about a possibility of rooting new devices here - h**ps://plus.google.com/communities/115612726860884592519
Hello,
I recently got a new phone OnePlus3 and trying to move my old messages from viber to the new one. The application doesn't support this process so I'm using a backup of the two applications along with the help from Android Backup Extractor. The process is described in the web so a google search would provide some more information.
The problem lies on the adb backup command as the package which is extracted from the device is kinda empty.
The old phone is a Nexus 4 with stock Android (rooted) version 5.1.1. The commands I'm using are:
Code:
adb backup com.viber.voip -f ./viber-old.ab
The resulting file is 54 bytes in size and when I unpack it with Android Backup Extractor it's an empty tar file.
I've tried with adb version matching the one on the phone (version 32) and with latest (36) downloaded from the android SDK. I've also tried setting a password for backups and not use empty one.
Since I've been trying with no success I tried on OnePlus3 and on Nexus 5X with no results either. The final size might be different but it's the same issue either 0 bytes or 54 bytes. (which includes just the manifest file). Previously around X-mas I have done the process successfully and moved my messages from Nexus 4 to my Nexus 5X so it's either a new permission policy in Android or Viber application doesn't allow backups?
Happy to debug further if one has some suggestion.
Thanks
The backup to Google Drive option doesn't work to restore on another device? Seems silly...

Truth to be told I didn't try that. I'll give it a go when at home - thanks

When trying to install Anime Mobile APK I see the installation progress bar then the system tells me "App Not Installed", so the app never installs. I can install the same APK in my Pixel 2 (running Android 9) and Nexus 7 (running Android 8.1.0), so I know the app installs fine in other devices.
I'm wondering if maybe there is a setting I need to enable on the MediaPad M5? (Before someone asks, yes I have "Install Unknown Apps" enabled.)
The target SDK on the app is 21 if that matters...I tried using Apktool to change the target SDK to 27, but when trying to install the generated APK, the installation fails (maybe I'm not doing it right??).
Maybe I m out of luck and I won't be able to install it, but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I got it working now ?... after a few hours. Here is the breakdown in case someone runs into the same issue with this app or another app
Apktool does work, but after generating the new apk, you need to resign the app with command line tools (zipalign and apksigner).
I tried changing the SDK version to 26, 27 and 25 and although the app would install, it would load and then close. So I decided to regenerate and resign the APK with the original SDK level 21 and voilà! The app installed, opened correctly and I'm able to watch Anime in my new tablet!!! Even download the episodes
I wrote a guide if anyone is interested: How to Change the SDK API Level to a 3rd Party Android APK
That's it ?
Can you post the apk. PLS. The one that work (moded one).
