[Q] Will a usb jig work on my bricked phone? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Unfortunately, I bricked my Samsung Galaxy SII T959 yesterday. I am not sure if this is considered hard brick or dead brick, but
I cannot boot up the phone at all. Holding down volume up and down + power fails to turn the phone on to recovery mode. I have
searched to the forum regarding my issue but failed to find anything (perhaps I'm just incompetent). Anyways, will this usb jig:
"[Aftermarket Product] Black Download Mode Unbrick Fix Micro USB JIG For Samsung GT-i9100 Galaxy S II Omnia 7 Epic Fascinate T959 Vibrant Replace Replacement"
It is a product that is being sold on amazon priced at $4.39. Sorry I cannot post any links as I am a new user. Will this work on my phone?
I'm planning on having it rushed shipped, but don't want to do that and have it not work.

How did you brick the phone?
Little info would be good.

Sorry that I left out that piece of information. I bricked it when I attempted to flash Alliance rom
on my T959. I was ignorant, I did not know that the rom was not compatible with my phone.

Does anyone have any idea?

If your asking has a jig helped people in a similar situation as yours...then yes, I have one and brought my buddys phone back. It might work for you and it might not. If I were you Id get or build one its worth a shot. Good luck

thank you good sir

Have you tried manually booting into download mode?
For Download mode
Remove Battery
Plug in USB cable to phone and computer
Put Battery In.. wait a couple of seconds until it shows the battery being charge..
Press and hold the vol+/vol- and the power button..
This will power up you phone.. once you see the Vibrant screen and it turn black, release the power button only.. this should get you into DL mode.

FYI, SGH-T959 is a Samsung Vibrant, which is a Galaxy S variant for T-Mobile USA. Not a Galaxy SII. You should probably be seeking advice in the forum for that phone, not this one.

Same problem.
I used Odin3 v1.81 and it seemed to do it's thing as expected. But when it rebooted, it never turned back on. Now I can't get it to do anything. Can't get to download mode to try again.
Freaking out a little.
Try odin 1.7

Same problem, I'm afraid. Can't get to download mode to use 1.7. Can't speak for iynfynity, but I'm starting to wonder if the hardware isn't just dead. This is for my wife's new handset. The radio stopped working and she just got this one today (refurbished, I believe).
Did u try all pulling the battery plug usb hold volume rocker up n down plug the battery while still holdin the rocker?

I did. Still no indication of life of any kind. I was hoping there was some other method of reviving it but I think it is truly bricked.

Try making a jig
as he described, phone wont power up -> hard bricked. JIG wont help
Call Samsung (not Tmobile) and send it in for FREE repair even if you got ur phone from Craiglist (my phone is from Craiglist, no receipt, no box)
The phone is being replaced as defective. I just hope the fact that it's been rooted doesn't become a hindrance. Thanks to all for the suggestions.
Hopefully they don't pull a logcat and charge you lol

Bricked Galaxy Note

Kind of a loss here. I have a At&T Galaxy note that I rooted and put clock work recovery mod on.
I accidentally downloaded a rom for the SGH-I777 not 717, and tried to flash in CWM. Now my phone wont even power on. Am I totally screwed?
Can you get into download mode or cwm from the powered off state?

The answer to everything is not 'get a replacement'. The guy above asking if download mode is accessible is spot on.
Provided you can get in there, reflashing a stock package for the i717 isn't impossible and should restore full functionality.
Best of luck
You can always try the Samsung Jig, it still works on my Note.
All im saying is if it won't turn on how can he get in DL mode? That doesn't make sense. Some say jigs work and some say they don't..

Download mode is not only if the phone powers on.
there maybe other things going on. the DL mode is a completely valid question. and i hope that he can.
a jig may work as well, i had luck with home made jigs from resiters. with about the 301 of resistance. but that was not for the note.

I need help I flashed my phone with I777 firmware and there's no life on the phone is this how easy my phone can go the painfully thing is that I'm in Nigeria I have a usb jig will try it wen I find it jtag I don't know were it can be done in Nigeria God please help me out of this
Yeah you wanted an i717 ROM instead if you can't get into recovery or download mode you have a hard brick and JTAG is really your only option. If you have access to a computer try Odin or kies as a last resort but I'm pretty sure your bricked sorry.

Did you read all the posts in the thread?
Can you get in in download mode? (hold volume down and press power)
If can not get in download mode, No one can save you here. The usb jig is your only hope you have. Or send it out to get repaired.
If you flash the wrong rom your phone needs JTAG service. You can send it from Nigeria using DHL and pre-pay the JTAG guy at www.mobiletechvideos.com. The JTAG is $50 but I don't know the shipping cost.

[Q] brand new note whont turn on

hey xda i really need your help i joust got a new galaxy note for at&t y rooted it made a backup and then installed a ics romow rom i hit the restart option in the recovery and the phone joust turned off and now it whont turn on it whont even get in download mode or in the recovery mode what can a do pleas help
Maybe a silly question, but is it charged? Does it show the charging animation when you plug it up? Try another outlet? Does the pc say anything when connected to the pc?
Also might be helpful to know what you used to root and the ROM used and to insure that you got it for the i717 and not the n7000.

U might need to pull battery
Then hold power button for 30 seconds or until u feel a vibrate
"Since God created man, and man created the Galaxy Note, the Galaxy Note are like a gift from God, Randal!"
You will have to jtag your note or chance sending it in for a replacement. It wont power on because the firmware needed to do so is missing or bad. You will need special tools to jtag your note and you will need to do some research on How to take your note apart and where your jtag points are and needed program to write rom to your note.

I think for the flash counter you need an app called TriangleAway....
The Jig I think would only be good to force your phone into DMode

I was told by many people that the JIG will not work, I tried one and it didnt. I sent my bricked S3 to mobiletechvideos.com. They are the only ones who can fix fully bricked phones.

On the GS3 the jig will only put you in download mode. It will NOT reset the flash counter as it did with earlier Samsung phones.

Before I Do Anything, Jig

Hey guy,
I recently bricked my phone and sought assistance first before I came to this. I have "hard bricked" my phone so i'm only left with two options: jig it or jtag it. Of course since the former is cheaper, I wanted to try that first, and if that fails, I will jtag. My question is where can I find a jig for the galaxy note I717? Help would be appreciated!

That is completely not true.
A jig is not, and never was, intended to fix a hard brick.
It first made its appearance with the galaxy s 1 variants because certain bootloaders would disable all button combos, making an easily fixable bootloop (soft brick) a much more tricky situation, so it was discovered that shorting pins 4 and 5 on a usb board with 301k ohms would force download mode ON A PHONE THAT WASN'T HARD BRICKED.
When the galaxy s2 was released, it was discovered that the jig not only forced download mode, but reset the flash counter as well.
On the note, it will force download mode if you're in a bootloop but not reset the flash counter, however the button combos should always work on a note with working bootloaders so the jig is superfluous.
Also, the resistors used play a role in whether the jig will do anything.
My jig boots download mode on my old captivate and my note, but the resistance is out of tolerance on my brother in law's galaxy s2 and does nothing.
Tl;Dr: jigs work for the purpose they were intended to.
i recently hard bricked and paid mobiletechvideo to jtag it for me. back like new
