I'm running:
Rooted 1.22.651.3
LazyPanda S-OFF
Hboot: 1.12.2222
Baseband: 1.02.12.0427
PRI: 2.28_003
PRL: 25010
Haven't updated ROM because I figured I'd wait till JB hit and bugs got ironed out. I also never updated firmware because everyone was saying that you you can never go back after you update. So, my questions:
1. Can I update to newest firmware while staying on an older ROM?
2. If so, should I?
3. Is there any reason to stay with an older firmware (assuming there are no compatibility issues)?
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No, baring any compatability issues I'm not aware of.
I'm s-on hboot 1.12 and obviously wouldn't want to upgrade my hboot. I can do radio, but I guess that's it?

In the Android Development forum there is a thread with the firmware. You can flash the one that says "no kernel/hboot/recovery". That way it'll just update everything else. There are a bunch of files that it flashes but I can't say exactly what each is for except for the radio.
Yes I went with stock with goodies and I have no regrets

Hey, I got my replacement phone only to find out that I can't root my OTA! Apparently the phone provided by Asurion was running 2.1 OTA as stock and the HBOOT version was 1.49? Does this mean that future versions will be running 1.49 or will it stay at 1.47, and for how long?
Same here. My New eris (not refurb) came in today with 2.1 (2.36.605.1 CL165907) with hboot 1.49 installed (PB0010000).

Might be a good thing or a bad thing. We might be able to get the 1.49 bootloader from these new 2.1 OTA phones and so allow us to root.
was my thought as well.

I wonder if they used to belong to people who couldn't wait and installed the leak, then claimed their phone broken so they could have them replaced. Refurbs that were once leak. Sound like a bad porno.

I highly doubt that, because we don't have a 2.1 OTA update for the 1.49 hboot. If they didn't have that, then there's no way Asurion could have updated the leaks. If they DID update the leaks, then how come they aren't releasing it to the public?
V3 is the leak. The only difference is the hboot.

I'd like to learn more about this, PM / post here how you did it please. I haven't been keeping up with the other devs lately but last I checked thats the leak 2.1 rom's hboot version. Maybe there are some differences in your 1.49 and the leak 1.49, and we may be able to use that to our advantage, as there are ways to change the nvram that we found earlier.
Yeah 1.49 s-on bootloader out of the box won't get you root.
anyone want to trade an eris with 1.49 for one with 1.46? lol had my hopes up this morning.

I've returned three different Eris handsets with various 2.1 leaks on them. The first one I didn't ask for, Verizon just randomly sent me a new phone, so I swapped them. I thought maybe there was a recall, but apparently they're just idiots. The other two were because the trackballs failed. I've been afraid that they would go to refurb these, see the 2.1 leak, then charge me for the replacement.

You mean v3 is the OTA? Only difference is the setup program to get the phone going (the OTA is intended to move from 1.5, the v3 leak is a complete wipe/flash).
HBOOT doesn't upgrade with OTA.
Do any of you want to see if this isn't just the 2.1 leak v3? Hope I can help. Here's all my info:
Firmware Version: 2.1
Baseband version: 2.42.00.04.12

Software number: 2.36.605.1

ANOTHER QUESTION: Why can't we just have the root running the HBOOT 1.49?
If there was root with hboot 1.49 that would mean that those of us on the OTA leak would get root too right?

That's actually does seem to be a rather strange combination - it seems you have a locked bootloader but the OTA install.
Someone over at Androidforums posted a HTC ROM decoder ring tonight, and from all appearances, you have a mystery combination that does not appear natural.
My bet is on someone who went crazy with fastboot after the 2.1OTA, and wasn't paying attention.
Who wants to bet that techs for Asurion just FR the phone with the (2.1) stock recovery boot - that clears out phone activation as well as /data.

There actually is a root with 1.49, provided you have 1.49 S-OFF (which is the engineering SPL). What I'm not clear on is where this came from (including how my phone went from .47/.48 to it. (I never installed a leak...just rooted 1.5 to 2.1 then ran custom ROM's...currently on leak4base)
From what I understand, 1.49 S-ON (leak users) cannot be updated with the engineering SPL because the phone sees it as the same or older and won't complete the update. And it can't be hacked, but it's digitally signed by HTC and any attempts to change it corrupt the authentication.
(I'm not 100% sure on all this so please correct any errors)
Does anyone know how I can get hboot 1.49 S-OFF?
I have been reading about these updates and I am curious about some things.
Sorry if I come off a bit noobish here. I am frustrated by the inability for the phone to pick up an lte signal on its own (without me changing from CDMA/evdo to CDMA/evdo/lte or turning on airplane mode.)
I am thinking from what I've read that the new baseband addresses this problem. Since I am on hboot 1.15, I would need to unroot to get this and then reroot again if I'm not mistaken. Or would flashing a stock ROM with the 2.13.651 give me that even though it does not show a change in my baseband?
I love the phone and the ROMs that are available on it, I just wish lte was easier to keep.

Welcome to the forums!
The radios are supposed to have improvements with picking up and holding an LTE signal. However, in my experiences new radios don't really ever help all that much.
Since you are on h-boot 1.15 you would have to unroot and either OTA or RUU to get them. Be aware that they may find an S-OFF for h-boot 1.15. Accepting the OTA or taking the RUU will bump you up to 1.19

No don't unroot. Just simply flash a stock rooted 2.13 Rom and flash New firmware through recovery. Don't think you can with 1.15hboot ill have to check.. but don't waste your time and effort. Simply dl and rooted stock/custom 2.13 Rom and you'll be fine

No he can't do that with hboot 1.15. If he wants radio or firmware he has to unroot. Thats why I told him that.
I personally don't think its worth doing so, but thats not my call to make. I gave him the facts and will let OP decide what he wants to do
OK. Next question, I prefer aosp ROMs to stock. I'm currently running PA.
Does this mean I will be using the airplane mode method for a while if I want to enjoy lte?

Hi, its been awhile since being in the root scene. Last being my HTC EVO 4g.
So, I now have the e4glte. It came with software version 1.13, so I'm assuming I have the supported lazypanda hboot. But how would I go about double checking my hboot.
Secondly, once I'm rooted, where can I find the 1.22 ota stock rooted. Havnt been able to find it browsing the forum on my phone
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE using xda premium
To get to the hboot screen first make sure that under Settings>Power, that Fastboot is unchecked. Power off phone then push Power and Volume down at the same time. Should pop up with the Androids skateboarding.
Now for the 1.22 software you'll have to search through develpoment, but you should know that were up to software 2.13 now. 2.13 comes with Sense 4.1 which gave us more to do with, esp the remapping ability of recent apps.
Hope that helps.

Thanks a ton, I did some more research. Seems I have the launch software, but it was nagging about the 1.22, so I thought that was the latest.
Seems I'm one of the lucky ones as I bought this phone today, and I have the 1.12 hboot and the1.02 radio.
So ill I need to do is use the lazypanda method to diff then flash a 2.13 Rom of my choice?
Is there any Plain stock 2.13 roms that anyone can link?

For the most part, yes. But it would also be good to update the firmware and radios which can be found here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30865522 Make sure you obtain s-off before attempting this though.
And I tried looking for the stock 2.13 ROM but I can't seem to find it right now. If you can't find it though, I know I should have a copy on my pc that I could put on dropbox for you. Just let me know.

No i believe you will have to wait until the .3 RUU is released.
See my post and replies in the Viper thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124391&page=140
I was in the exact same situation. Running Meanbean with the same baseband and firmware.
Following the s-off process at http://unlimited.io/jewel.htm and ignoring the 3.16 part got me back to stock RUU and I was able to s-off no problem.
I ran the Ubuntu liveCD 12.4 from a bootable usb stick.
You *might* be able to do that and get back to stock/unrooted. No guarantees though as what works for one, might not work for the next.
i didnt think the 3.16.651.3 firmware would let you run the .16 RUU

interesting because when i tried running the RUU for .16 it said i had .3 and it wouldn't work? maybe i messed something up. so does that mean i can run the .16 RUU and achieve s-off even being on .3? damn i wish i would have s-off'd right when i got the phone now lol all these different versions and RUU are confusing as hell.

latest RUU is 4.03.605.2 which i think has 2.22.10.0801r, 2.22.10.0803r
with 2.27 Hboot which you can check by going into bootloader
im not a radio genius. So someone correct me if I'm wrong
but check the rest of your "about phone section" for RUU information
4.03.605.2 is the newest radio just google i and you will find it. I use this one and I think it has more stable 4G signal,
Be advised that 4.03.605.2 is a Leak. Since you are s-on if you flash the global leak you will not be able to take any official OTAs.
I would use the official RUU which will update you and then take the OTA that just came out a couple weeks ago. Find the RUU here:
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Vigor
It's the top one, 3.14.605.12
Then if you are not happy with your reception you can always go up to the global leak if you want, you just can't go back down to a lower version without s-off.
Before you do this back up everything you need as this will wipe your phone and put it to factory stock.
You need to relock your phone to run it:
fastboot oem lock
And then you'll need to unlock again and flash Amon Ra before flashing a custom ROM again.

So, this build number is confusing me. This is what I presently have and I'm not sure how I got here
Baseband 2.22.10.0801 /....803
Hboot 2027
Build 1.11.401.110
Seems like everyone else with this radio combo is on build 4.03 or something like that.
Is there any advantage to me upgrading to that build? I am S-Off and hate the prospect of relocking or having my internal SD wiped if I don't have to go through that.
Build number has nothing to do with firmware. It's set by the ROM. You're already on the global firmware.
