Solved! Didn't do full wipe before installing and somehow the kernel for CM10.1 was in the AOKP Omega ROM. Full wipe before flashing has solved this.
I've got a problem with wifi. After coming from stock ICS then OTA stock JB (UK Vodafone some months ago) I rooted and installed SuperNexus. Tried AOKP Omega. These worked well so thought I would try CM 10.1. Wifi stopped working so went back to the Omega ROM via recovery. Wifi still not working. I think I know what to do: reflash a stock Sammy ICS and then a custom ROM. But why would the wifi fail after many ROMS away from stock?
Just to explain more, it won't switch on using the toggle or the slider in settings. Everything else is OK.
Thanks in advance

Dear All,
I've went ahead and flashed Sensation Rom a while back with full wipe etc.
Ive noticed that on my network (Cytamobile Cyprus) everytime my phone went to sleep after woken it will never switch from 3g to H, giving horrible speeds as a result -200 300kbps. However if data network was turned off and back on - H would work and i would get full speed. Ive tried a variety of ICS roms (even the official carrier update) and modems, even tried flashing a GB modem that I was using on my GB rom - no results.
Please Help.
Currently had to restore back to GB where my connection works fine.
If anyone has any advice on the matter I would really appreciate. I really like ICS
Best Regards

Doesn't anybody have the same problem?
Backup, FULL wipe and give wanamlite ICS ROM a try.
If you still have connectivity issues, then flash various modems from the modem thread to gain best reception/stability/speed etc.

I've had the same issue running Resurection remix 1.8.
Fixed it with a full wipe and RR 1.9.1.

Thank you all. RR 1.9.1 fixed my problem. On the other hand too many SODs guess will have to reflash something else.
I had been running the official Samsung version of ICS on my phone for a few months with no problems (updated via Kies).
Last weekend I rooted my phone but afterwards WiFi stopped functioning. When I tap the icon in the pull down menu it goes green, and then greys over. In settings it says Wifi is turning on, but it never does.
I tried flashing a new custom ROM, new Kernel, reverting to stock ICS from Samsung, unrooting. All with no success. Same issue.
Finally I flashed back to gingerbread in the hope that it was an ICS issue. That didn't work either!
I've searched and searched but found very little info. For the record, yes I've factory reset and wiped cache etc etc.
I'm open to any suggestions at this stage. Thanks.
Try a different baseband/modem.

Thanks I'll give it a try. Is that not more to do with the mobile network though than with wifi?

I think changing baseband will not do anything.wifi is controlled via kernal i guess.

Try methods mentioned there.if you are lucky enough you might get your wifi back.good luck.

I had that probem after I upgraded to resurrection 2.6 from 2.5.1. The problem persisted even after I restored the 2.5.1. (The camera also stopped working) I solved the problem with flashing the phone with the stock ROM. I am also interested to know why it happened? (Problem with 2.6 resurrection?)

Very interesting actually. Thinking about it I flashed to Resurrection Remix 2.5.3 almost immediately after rooting, and I think this is when my problems started. Only thing is that I've since flashed backwards and forwards through various ROMs, Kernals and versions of Android to no avail. Have you a link to the stock ROM you used?
I had this problem when I first got Resurrection remix 2.5.3, the problem lied in the siyah kernel I was using. I proceeded to wipe my phone (factory, dalvik, etc) and reinstalled the resurrection remix. But this time I went to custom installation and changed the siyah to the newer version or fluxi and wi fi started working again.

Thanks for the reply. I'm running Resurrection Remix version 2.6 at the moment and flashed the Siyah 3.4.1. Still the same problem.
Almost certainly the problem first happened when I installed RR last weekend, but nothing I do seems to solve it!
Any further suggestions?
Read in the official AOKP Official release [Build 3] thread that Galaxy S3 owners coming from Sammy JB leaks need to flash back to ICS ROM before flashing the AOKP to allow wifi tethering and nfc to work as shown below.

It will work if the right precautions are taken.
*if you hanvnt flashed a Samsung job leak and came directly from ICS or another cm ROM.
* if used a jb leak then flashed back to stock ICS to enable your NFC and wifi and then flashed this ROM.
My question is, I am currently on CM10 having previously on stock ICS 4.0.4. Do I still have to flash to ICS before entering AOKP?I do understand I have to wipe factory data, cache and dalvik as well. Any pro wish to help me out here? Thanks alot!

"Ya" means I have to reflash back to ICS or "Ya" means i dont have to and can carry on flashing AOKP? Sorry....confused noob here. Thanks for the reply anw!
Anyone knows how to go about flashing from CM10 to AOKP? Do I really need to flash back to a stock ICS?
OK NVM. got it right the first time. For those wondering if you need to flash to ICS before going into AOKP, the answer is you DONT!. I was on CM10 and flashed right away after clearing my data factory reset, cache and dalvik cache. There are no problems whatsoever,so enjoy your AOKP ROM.Currently back on CM10 nightly build as I found that there are more issues in AOKP Build 3 than CM10, but love the vast customization you can get on AOKP though.
still not working
I flashed latest official ICS from samobile, tested tethering and worked fine. Back to RR AOKP build 3...not working.
U have to flash ics rom only if u have wifi issues thats all...

wifi is fine
well...flashed different ICSs (custom), tethering is working fine. Flashing AOKP back, no go....its broken somehow.
thanks.
any estimate as to when wifi tethering issue would get fixed in aokp/aosp based ROMs?
Is there a work around to have a fully functional wifi tethering on aokp JB?

I had the same problem. Lot of functions are not working. But Still waiting for latest update. For now i'm using criskelo's rom. Much stable but not pure android experience :-/
Right guys Ive looked around the forums and cant quite find the post that relates to:
Samsung Galaxy S3 WIFI tether no longer working after flashing custom JB roms.(I have also found some ICS roms dont work either)
I have tried various different ROMs and kernels to try and get a working JB rom with WIFI tethering and not yet found one. Tested CM10, CM9, PA, SlimROM, the list goes on! with kernels 3.0.31 CM and siyah kernel.
Has anyone successfully got JB working with WIFI tethering successfully broadcasting an SSID and connecting and using it!!??
Answer on a postcard @ please reply below

ok cool Ill give that a try and see what happens!
this is what u get when u play arnd with custom roms.........each custom rom is ****ed up in some way or another!
russeini if you have nothing to contribute then please kindly stfu.
At least some of the roms (Pa, Cm, ...) are not Samsung-based and currently have some stability issues with such features as wifi tethering.
Roms based on Samsung's official Jb work fine or at least should.

Hey. I got the same issues. All roms you listed i've tried also (incl AOKP) and while WI-FI did work, thethering/NFC didn't. Some said that you need to flash back sammy ICS stock then the AOSP/AOKP based rom and it will work (you cand fine info on the related threads). Didn't work that way either so I quit although I am in love with AOKP roms (RR AOKP, rootbox, official AOPK). They provide the true Android experience that Google intented, not the the sammy/crappy one.
All sammy ICS/JB custom roms worked fine (WIFI, BT, NFC, tethering, etc). I am now on Alliance ICS that is fully AOSP themed, very stable and smooth.Highly recommended.
Regards

**FIXED!!!** HOORAY
Right coz Im nice this is what I did
1. Ran ODIN and FLASHED ROM I9300XXBLH3_I9300H3GBLH2_H3G from samfirmware.com
2. Hold Vol UP + Power + Home Key - wiped user data + cache
2. Ran ODIN and FLASHED Kernel CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5.tar from chainfire
3. Copied cm-9.1.0-i9300.zip and gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip to my SD card
4. Hold Vol UP + Power + Home Key and booted to CWM
5. Installed cm-9.1.0-i9300.zip and gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip and then wiped user data + cache
6. Rebooted!
And now I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 that is on cm9 with new JB look instead of stock look but more important!!! The WIFI Tethering is working!!!!!!! HOOOORAY

Do you know if this would work for a TMobile S3? I am still trying to find a confirmed working solution for WiFi tethering so I can tie my nexus 7 tablet to my unlimited data plan so I can make full use of it at work.
Hi, I have a problem with my s3, since the upgrade to version 4.3 from 4.1 via OTA wifi it stopped working in 4.1 worked fine and when I upgrade to 4.3 stopped working, I flash, wipes, back to 4.1 , 4.2, put custom ROMS as omega, cyanogenmod and not work, it always stays at Turning on and ever on, not how to solve this problem try everything really, I am currently in version 4.3 and I still have the problem, here attached an image.
Did you try flashing back to a stock TW rom? Some signal issues were fixed for me when I restored back to stock, let gps lock, then set up custom rom.

when some of the lte builds I was running played havock on my signal setting, reception and such, the only fix was to revert back to stock (for my phone), update the boot loader and modem, then try the custom again. Im speaking from the experience of the ATT I747, but I imagine it could be similar with the international version of the s3.
You did everything, flash a lot of roms and none is solved
