I originally rooted the phone using HTCdev method.
I'm trying to unroot the phone, I have Tampered, Unlocked, S-on
hboot- 1.19.0000
radio 1.12.11.0809
Per the RUU utility, it says Current information about your Android phone: Image Version 2.12.651.1
I followed a video tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC-3XsAoL_U&feature=player_embedded#! to unroot the phone. I was running Stock w/ Goodies 2.21, which I believed was software version 2.13.651.1, and so I downloaded a completely stock RUU and ran it, according to the instructions. It started doing its thing, the phone shows just a black screen with silver "HTC" in the center, nothing else in the corners or anything. it got to a point where it said Erasing Data, and then "sending...." then the RUUwindow came up saying
"Error 155, The ROM Update Utiliyu cannot update your Android Phone. Please get the correct ROM Update utility and try again."
I says to fix it, click next if there are exclaimation points in the corners. But I don't have excalinmation points in the corners.
Anyways, no matter what I try, the phone is stuck either at a black screen with HTC in the center, or if i pull the cable out, it goes to the boot loader and shows RUU failed. If I plug the cable back in, it goes back the the black screen.
Please help me!
Pretty sure this belongs in Q&A, not Development.

Sorry man, it just seemed like a development-type question. Just a wee bit stressed
dont you have to relock to run ruu?
if you watch his video you can see his evo is locked. i remember on a 3d i was having problem running the ruu until i relocked it..
maybe someone else can help you to get it back on.

yeah, this is what im starting to see as I'm looking. It just didnt make sense to me that the phone has to be locked in order to do something like that, you would think it would need to be unlocked. So I'm going to figure out how to lock it.
Oh, and I just had to take the cable out and hold the power button for 10 seconds. rebooted fine, I'm almost wondering if I should just leave it.
if you wanna unroot i would first relock it, i am sure thats your problem since i had that happen to me before. at least you got it back on.:good:

I decided last night after 10+ years with sprint, I switched to verizon.
I want to sell my LTE
I want to put my evo LTE back to complete stock, including, taking away "tampered" and "unlocked".
I am Son, rooted, with custom ROM.
Question is, will I have to get Soff first to be able take away "tampered" through lazy panda or is there another way?
Thanks
If you have hboot 1.12 you might be better off leaving it rooted and selling it as such.

You'll need to relock the bootloader with fastboot ("fastboot oem lock" from command prompt) and then run the RUU for the software version that matches the bootloader you currently have.
But yeah, agree with previous poster...if you're on 1.12 I would leave it and find someone on xda who wants it for s-off. Otherwise, above instructions should work. For more details, do a forum search...there have been multiple threads on the subject.

Thanks for the input. Yes it still has 1.2 hboot.
I guess I can leave it up to the buyer how they want the phone set up.

Just did this the other night also. My phone was just like yours. I am not sure if S-On could just load the .img from the thread below. So I went the long way and went to S-OFF then followed the thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744700&highlight=stock
Getting S-Off was SCARY for me. I went straight from MeanROM to try and get S-OFF and my phone was running the utility and then it went black screen and on my PC the number kept increasing in time. I finally stopped after waiting ten mintues. I had to go to my PC and run Ubuntu Live to unbrick the phone.

Read the Linux part at the beginning of the thread before you start just in case. I am not a Linux user and getting into the right folders was a little tough.

Yeah, I think I'm going to do it the long way too. I've done s-off then back to s-on already, but that was before the OTA's and up dated roms came out.
Thanks for the input!
I too have switched and have 2 Evo LTEs for sale on eBay if anybody is interested. Hboot 1.12 and all!!! Comes with cases and sdcards too!
SUCCESS with Lazy panda!
Worked flawlessly!
Hi guys ive got my htc rezound here with 4.0.3 ics and ive unlocked it and i used scottys guide to root it everything was in place i even got superuser user to install. i decided i wanted to s-off it so i got a peice of cat 6 cable it seemed it would work being an ethernet cable. i used
JuopunutBear S-OFF and everything came up as said i did the wire trick a few times i failed and decided to try again. it went to reboot my phone and now my phone wont boot at all it only does 2 things. goes into the JuopunutBear menu which i can do nothing in. or goes into the boot loader and says tampered and unlocked at the top. i can not go into recovery. now the JuopunutBear apparently backed up my files. i do not know where they are or what to do with them. can someone help me get my phone working again much thanks.

Shoot me a PM if you need some help, no question is a dumb question so take your time and hit me up with anything you're not real sure about.
I'm guessing if you had problems it's either because of drivers, or you had like the gingerbread firmware and hboot and an ICS rom and patch, because that causes jp bear to look at your phone and say "WTF"
for some reason i'm having a big problem going back to stock.
here's my current set up...
tampered
unlocked
s-on
hboot 1.12.0000
TWRP recovery
Stock with Goodies 3.40
all i'm trying to do is get back to stock!
here's what i've done so far...
1. connected phone to PC with USB Debugging on and ran RUU of the latest release
2. phone reboots and goes to the black HTC screen and just gets stuck there forever
then I realize I have to relock it so I relock and then reboot but then it just gets stuck in bootloader and won't go into OS or recovery...just reboots to bootloader when I try to do anything. plus when I try to do adb or run RUU from PC, the PC doesn't think the phone is actually connected to it.
so i've re-unlocked and now it goes back to OS but my whole point is to go to stock and unroot...what the hell am I doing wrong? I'm about to just throw the phone into the ground and get a new one since I have squaretrade warranty.
I know many of you are probably just thinking...why doesn't he s-off? because i don't have access to 32 bit windows 7 PC and figured just unrooting and then updating to latest RUU and then rerooting/unlocking would be sufficient.
THANKS in advance for any advice...
maybe
u might watch this video. i did the same this morning. made it easy for me anyway.

all his videos are great.
that's what I started with...relocked and then ran RUU but it just gets stuck at the black HTC logo screen forever...like we're talking over an hour. the thing says it may take 10 minutes or so...i'm not getting anything status update...it just gets stuck there...

then again i'm still learning and don't know jack sheet
mine was 2.09 thats what i ran worked fine
Maybe Try Again
It took me a few tries or so, to get the RUU to work, but it finally worked.
One thing I realized is that I had to flash stock recovery prior to relocking, otherwise you're wasting your time, afaik.
...which leads me to how I came across this thread. I can't remember where I found stock recovery. I've been searching xda almost an hour. Can anyone tell me?

Hello, quick background, My sisters bf tried to root her phone. He failed. I received it and attempted to fix, here is the thread where I almost succeeded: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38442511
only problem now is when I went to install the RUU my computer reboot and left the phone with the HTC in silver and on the 4 corners,4 triangles with exclamation marks inside. I cant boot back to bootloader, when I try to run the RUU from the terminal it says error cant run RUU. running linux 12.04.
Hmm I could say many things suggestions etc but they would all be untested. Best bet, take it in telling em you where updating the phone via ruu pc rebooted while ruu was being run.

Won't Sprint see that the phone was tampered with? everyonce in a while when I unplug the phone from the comp it shows the bootloader screen with just RUU in orange but at the top it says tampered and relocked.
When it shows the bootloader, as you said, can't you volume button down to select recovery? If your recovery got wiped during the messed up RUU flash, you might really be hosed. Have you tried rerunning RUU from a windows device? Sinister knows a lot about android/Linux, glad he posted, but if he suggests it's hosed, it probably is. That said, it's pretty hard to completely hose it. One of your other partitions may have got borked, in which case I'd check the jewel Evita brick toolkit thread here in a sticky or at one X in a sticky, I forget.
From my Evo LTE, yup.

Can you get into hboot? If so remove your sd add to the root of it an recovery image. That is if you can't hboot<recovery. If that don't work use regamods s-on and his other thing to hide the rl tampered thing in hboot. Provide more details bro. Its hard to guess.

Dudes,
Too many dead pixels dying on my phone and ATT is sending me another replacement device through warranty. I RUU'd and brought everything back to normal from the CID, hboot, radio, and back to s-on but I cannot get my bootloader to show "Locked". It just shows relocked. Im certain I cannot send it back to them saying relocked. Ive searched and maybe im not searching good enough. Care to share some commands?
"fastboot oem lock" only relocks it.
I restored the phone to 3.17 firmware and RUU but before I update it to the 4.3 id like it to show locked. Any help is appreciated.
Edit: Nevermind I found my answer. Read that this was not possible.

If you're s-off it is totally possible there's a command for it built right in to revone.

to my knowledge any htc device no longer show "locked" after you unlocked it the first time..it will always show relocked when locked again..

Something went wrong and now I have a message in hboot that says "security warning" and tampared over the words "locked". I doesnt boot to the rom again just goes to recovery im guessing with the phone and the red triangle. lol Pain in the butt.
To be honest I have no clue how to fix that lol I haven't tried to lock it yet

So right now it's unlocked with tampered above an s-off. Is it wise to lock bootloader first before I run ruu? Which order should I go? I know s-on is last for sure...

For anyone that's searching for this exact issue ill share what i did to get my phone completely back to stock. I did search the forum but the info was all over the place and in my opinion it was as clear as "I" needed it to be hence me creating a thread for something so simple. Ok as follows here is what I did step by step.
First I had to make sure I installed HTC sync of course. At the moment my firmware was 3.57 and I downloaded the 3.17 RUU.exe from HTC.com
Your firmware *HBOOT* and the RUU you download have to match or you will get errors. Well, least I did.
Make sure you download some type of toolkit it would make life a lot easier. I used this one it worked like a charm!
At the moment, my phone is bootloader unlocked and s-off fyi.
Next, Use the tool to "lock" your bootloader first not "re-lock" just "lock". If you're having issues push revone again and follow commands on toolbox.
Now, check hboot to see if it shows "locked" if it has tampered above locked that's ok the RUU will take care of that.
Run, the RUU, make sure usb debugging on and htc sync already installed. Let it run.
After its done, start up phone again, turn off fastboot under "power" and turn usb debugging on again.
Start up toolkit, look to the right and it will say "s-on" device. You can only s-on after you've ran the RUU and are on stock hboot and rom.
Check Hboot again and it should read "Locked" and now "s-on".
Phone now ready to send back for warranty or etc.
Hope this helps anyone that searches. I found a few thread via google and they helped out a bunch.
