[Q] Best ROM for non-dev? - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, over the past month, my brother had gone from complaining about his (self-inflicted) broken phone of two-years, to getting a new one on a contract renewal, to getting it stolen. He's currently without a phone, and I happen to have my spare HTC Aria, which I'm being gracious enough to give him. It's currently running the Unofficial CyanogenMod 10 ROM, and despite being reliable for most things, it still runs a bit slow at parts. It's piqued my interest what ROMs might be best to install on the phone, as he's not one to explore rooting and flashing new firmwares.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] The risks or rooting. My dad won't let me, and he's irrational about it.

So I just got a Samsung Admire, and I really want to root it and put cyanogenmod on it for obvious reasons, and my dad is hellbent on the fact that he thinks that I'm going to somehow break my phone and I'm not going to be able to send it in to get fixed. Please give me advice on viewpoints that will convince him that it isn't a bad thing! Thanks all!

Well there are several concerns with rooting any device. It is not a fool proof process. But that being said, it is not as risky as some would lead you to believe. You must as with anything your going to attempt for the first time, do some research. Find out as much as you can about the process, particularly for your device. Read and research as much as you can, till your comfortable with it. There are a lot of Pros to rooting a device. The biggest being total control of your device. As for Cons, I guess the biggest in my eyes is only one. That before taking the device in if you have to. You must first return it back to stock unrooted.

Exactly. I have done much research on it and I've told him that it's a very infinitesimal chance that it will brick, but he still says that he sees no real pro to rooting it.
Why would you even ask in the first place. It is better to ask forgiveness than permission. Plus if it bricked you could have told him you just went to turn it on the morning and it was dead.

i thought the admire didnt even have cwm out yet? even less cm7. all you can do is root as far as i know
Rooting Admire ??
I rooted an Admire on New Years Eve. Then proceded to look everywhere for the next two days for a custom recovery to flash. Nothing is available as of yet. There is a gentleman who had been porting ClockworkMOD and CM7 for the phone. It appears some life issues have slowed his progress. The latest posting I could find stated He was very close to a working Clockwork recovery. I tried every thing I know to get this phone to play along. It refused. You can not do much with it just rooted, other than nix some unwanted apps. If I had it to do over, I would have made sure there was a working recovery. Let me tell you it is very frusterating to root a phone and still not be able to customize. I will say that of all the phones I have worked on, I hate those lower end Samsung units the most. This Admire and an Intercept are the only ones that have beat me. Yes, you most likely won't hurt it with root. Until a ported recovery is put out, there isn't much you can do to it period.

[Q] Is the LG Phoenix a good beginner phone?

Hi all, I am a current iPhone user and my phone is shot (battery issues and water damage) and its time to move on to something with a more open user experience (I am a engineer and love to tinker). My main question is the LG Phoenix (Optimus One?) a good beginning phone to get familiar with the Android platform? A friend has one that they used all of two months before getting an iPhone 4 and is willing to sale me the phone really really cheap.
Thank you for your time and any answers you may have for me, the help will be greatly appreciated!
Michael
Go for it, dude. You won't regret it. This is my first Android phone too (purchased in June last year) and I started to tinker with it in November. It has been smooth sailing so far. Best investment for money.
BTW, I'm an engineer too. ;-)
Thank you for the quick reply
If you're getting it for cheap, do go ahead. Just remember that it is a rather low-level phone, so glitches and lag and other such problems are to be expected. But a custom ROM should fix most, if not all, of those problems.

I advice you to buy it. Flashing a custom rom on Optimus One will speed up your phone.. and you can have Ice Cream Sandwich on it.
dude just go for O1, I'm so much happy with this device and our development is just awesome!!
One more thing I'm a future Engg!!
Thanks for the replies! I was astonished when I found this forum and why I hadn't sooner. This whole website is full of wonderful information and helpful people!
The Phoenix and O1 have different drivers. Flashing O1 roms work, with color issues, you need joban' s kernel to make it work right. Obb never had a stable rom/ kernel
Joban was the only one working on building. Now he's not.
Netflix will never work on Phoenix. CPU to slow. I've OC mine 729
I updated to 2.3.4 stock. Roming never made it better.
If you wanna neet phone to bring you into android, and it's REALLY cheap then get Phoenix.
if you want to rom and mod then get something better.

Best verizon phone for modding

After cracking my D2G's screen, im in the market for a new phone. This time, i want one that has much more modding potential than the D2G. My upgrade doesnt come for a couple of months, so until then, i want to get a used phone from ebay. What verizon phone has been the best for modding in the past? When i say modding, i mean rooting, Custom ROMs, and modding community. I assume the Galaxy nexus is the best one right now, but what about older phones?
Thanks

A Humble Request

Okay so I have a minor issue so to speak. I had a sidekick 4g and the thing drove me crazy with the freezing and rebooting so I called tmobile and replaced it a gazillion times until they gave me a different device. The new device I am getting in the mail is the LG Mytouch Q.
I don't much like the UI, but the processor is better than that of the sidekick and well it has a couple of features the sidekick lacked (like an LED flash I mean FFS samsung...sigh). Anyway, I figured that since it is easily rooted that there would at least be one or two roms for it. Well, to my surprise...There isn't even a specific forum.
So I have a very humble request (well a couple of them):
1) Please give the Mytouch q a forum. Maybe even bundle the LG Mytouch and the Q into one forum, I don't care, just give us users of this phone our own cave to plot in.
2) Port CM9 (or even stable CM7) over to the Mytouch Q. I know the LG Mytouch already has CM and the internals are basically the same. Really, the phones are basically twins.
3) A little bit of dev support? I know this phone is not the Galaxy S3, I doubt it can even be mentioned in the same sentence, but seeing that I am stuck with this for a while I would really like some support for it. Even if you don't have the phone I'm sure you have a younger sibling, a child, your mom, or even a grandma you could borrow the phone from just to build and test the rom. PLEASE. I managed to get out of the torture that was the sidekick, just help me to enjoy this phone for a while.
It's not a totally bad phone, it's going to get an update to ICS soon, and come on give a little charity for this phone!!
PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE.
Thanks!

I have a G3, but with jasmine and cyanogenmod for the G3 and L out on nexus devices - i might need to pick up a new white chip.
Anyone else neglect their responsibilities and waste time at work flashing new roms?
I do at at work and in class when the professor gives long lectures.
I'm a long time sufferer, through many Android devices... If its not my current G3(Rooted on its first power-up, have had Jasmine, CM11, currently has Liquid, and just downloaded Vanir to try) Coming from a HTC One(M7) that got flashed more than Joe Francis, there always seems to be something new, even with a phone that's only had TWRP for a month or so......

I'm a recovered flashoholic. My addiction started with the Samsung Omnia but ended with the Samsung GS3. Today I have been fine with Xposed since the launch of LG G3. I guess I was able to end it due to all the devs out there that created apps that were missing from older phone builds, Big Thanks to them all. But since the big companies took notes and ideas from Forums across the net, newer phones have most of what I need in a smartphone. But as soon as Beans release a Lollipop build, I'll be back at it 1 more time. ?
