Finding original ROM ICS 4.0.4 - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi (sorry for my bad english),
I've a P7100 10.1v with ICS 4.0.4 and I've deleted many app (3G, telephon, ...) with Titanium Backup.
Now, I regret but I can't revese my action (I don't make backup).
Is it possible to make an automatic upgrade with the same (but complete) version ?
Can you help me ?
Thank you

Help please :crying:

Up

You can install stock 3.2.1 (you'll find it at sammobile.com) via Odin-3, then connect tab to wifi and upgrade it to 4.0.4 via OTA and you'll recieve what you need.
Don't forget make backup before this.

Hi romanych74, thank you for your answer.
If I reflash my tab to 3.2.1, lose I the root ?
If yes, do you think I first must unroot or first accept upgarde 4.0.4 and after unroot ?
Thank you

Hi, Le Dam. You're wellcome.
When I reflash tab with 3.2.1 I didn't check my root.
I've reflashed 3.2.1, then upgraded to 4.0.4 and after that maked the root.

Delete.

Hi Romany, would you mind sharing the steps you used please?
I am not having success with either Odin or fastboot.
I get 3.2.1 installed (from sammobile.com) but it won't upgrade to 4.0.4 and I think it is because the kernel is still 3.26.3 ...
Any help appreciated.

Hi,
First, sorry romanych74 for this very late answer !
At this time, I don't yet try the donwngrade to 3.2.1.
And the Gary's message afraid me... do you thinks the Kernel stop OTA ?
Chance or not : the kernel of my tablet is 3.1.10
Is this possible to force OTA upgrade ?
Thank you for your help.

Gary found out that the problem was the modem (not the kernel), for some reason if you have flashed the modem from 7500, it wont accept OTAs (also for some reason the thread has been deleted or i can find it).
So if you have flashed the p7500 modem (as its usual procedure now), you need to revert to the modem from P7100BUKE2 (the P7100BULB4 package does not contain the modem image) AND you need to revert to the stock recovery to do the update OTA.
You will then have the stock 4.0.4, without root; you may wanna try this method (not tried myself), to recover the root.

Hi!
My kernel's version is 3.1.10.
Baseband version is still P7100BULG3. I've not flashed P7500 modem - i did not need this.
Now i have JB 4.2.1 (nightly by 25-01-2013) and everything works.

Hello pruano, thank you for your reply.
No, I don't have flashed to p7500.
Are you sure this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386545) is safe and sure for 10.1v (P7100) ?
This is only for root the tab after new OTA flash to 4.0.4 ?

Like i said in the post, havent tried it myself, but from what i could gather, its safe, and to be applied after upgrade to 4.0.4.
If you prefer a longer but confirmed route, just use the old method and afterwards flash the stock recovery before trying to get the update OTA (the skitzandroid-recovery does not handle OTAs).

Hi,
I must explain why I will retreive the original ROM 4.0.4 : I made a mistake because I delete the "phone software" (= modem ???) with Titanium Pro.
Now, I just reflash the ROM 3.2.1 with Odin and all is alright.
After reboot, YES ! Upgrade via OTA -> 4.0.4
But the problem still there
No phone :crying:
If I put my sim card in the tab, I must enter my code... and I don't find the phone, I can't enable 3G.
Why ?
Do you think I have delete the modem with Titanium ?
And the complete flash to 3.2.1 and after the OTA upgrade to 4.0.4 don't instal a new modem ?
Thank you for your help

Do you mean you cant use data communications through 3G (did you do the OTA through Wifi?) or do you mean use of phone functionality like SMS/MMS and phone calls?
If the former, check the settings to see if Mobile data is enabled (and turn Wifi off to confim); if the tablet is asking for the pin, it definitely finds the SIM. If nothing above works, reflash the modem (just the modem) from P7100BUKE2 with Odin.
If the later, the tablet has no support for it in any stock release; there are some hacks to enable some functionality, but that goes WAY beyond what you ask in the thread and i cannot help you there, its better you create a new thread for it, as what you asked for was accomplished.

Hi,
Thank you pruano.
The OTA upgrade is completed via wifi.
After reboot, I put a SIM card and the tab ask pincode.
But I don't find the little blue phone (icon), I don't find SMS...
And when I shut off the wifi, I try to connect 3G but nothing.
Exactly the same problem with 3.2.1 (before upgrade)... it don't find phone, sms, etc...
Sorry for this question but, where can I find this modem you say (only modem) ?
For flash it with Odin, with witch button may I use ? PDA or PHONE ?
Thank you

You may want to check with another SIM, as the one you are using may be defective (try it on your phone, for example).
Either that, or you have the configurations wrong. What is your operator? I remember seeing a thread around here where the APN for Vodafone was incorrect and needed to be changed.
Also try to see if the table picks any network, by going to settings-> More... -> Mobile networks -> Mobile operators (or something) and trying do a scan of the networks available.

You can get it from here (requires registering). The 3.2.1 release package does not come with a modem, only the 3.0.1 P7100BUKE2 (which will work on any release above it). As for Odin, only use the PHONE field and the MODEM....tar.md5 file

Then you must have, at some point, flashed a modem firmware from another device; why it worked before, its most likely due to a custom ROM you had installed and stopped working with the stock versions.
Just for the record, did you follow this procedure to gain root back?

[Q] Samsung GS2- Should i update my firmware through Kies after rooting?

Hello, just to preface this- im not very technical, but i can follow instructions well.
Anyway, You guys were great to help me two months ago in rooting my phone. I ended up doing it through Odin and all went great. Got all the **** off my phone which was the main aim. I didn't put any custom roms on there as im a bit useless when it comes to this stuff and i felt i'd be pushing my luck after the rooting went so well.
Yesterday i used Kies and it asked me to upgrade the firmware as there was a new version available.
1. What should i do? Will upgrading through Kies reverse the rooting procedure or break my phone?
2. Should i get the newer update from this site? If so- is there any tutorial for updating the firmware after already rooting the phone through odin (chainfires method i think it was?
Thank you in advance for any advice all.
My phone details are ;
ANdroid 2.3.3
Baseband version I9100XXKE7
Kernel version; 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF3-CL276555
[email protected] #2
Build number; GINGERBREAD.XWKF3
I have used kies to update firm ware after rooting and it did not UN root my phone so you should be fine. It did however install more useless apps that I had to remove.

i would update via kies then go to chainfires post and pick root and cwm to match your new firmwares kernel .
That way you wont have to learn how to flash stock firmwares etc .,

What JJ said is to flash via Kies and then flash the CF-Root kernel from Chainfire to get root and CWM in the phone.
Hi Azeurius,
the thing is that i already have root and cwm on the phone. Ive already rooted.
So im at the point where i can upgrade the firmware through kies, but im looking for advice what i should do overall- nearing in mind the fact ive already rooted, and phone details are in Openingpost.
THanks!
Ok well I am also new here but from everything I have read my understanding is that you have rooted your device and loaded the original Kernel for your current firmware. If you upgrade through Kies then you will obviously have an upgraded firmware with the old kernel (from your 1st rooting).
So when you upgrade your firmware you just have to also upgrade your Kernel through odin so your phone will still be properly rooted.
I stand to be corrected. I only started reading about rooting today as I just got my Galaxy s2 having come from a Blackberry so new to Android but loving it!!! Best os ever!
I think I will root my phone but not going to touch the firmware as ICS should be release on Kies soon cant wait

Any stock upgrade removes root .

Correct
One big problem with Kies is that if you change firmware its possible that you lose the Kies upgrade path as phone codes no longer match .

Hello guys. Im relatively new to XDA. So I might sound stupid. My question is, as jje mentioned above "One big problem with Kies is that if you change firmware its possible that you lose the Kies upgrade path as phone codes no longer match" am i correct in saying that if I update my Galaxy s II (rooted + cwm recovery no custom rom) via kies, then I could run into problems? Also one more question. If I do update via kies, will it remove root and cwm recovery?? Thanks guys. .

Use Odin
I think KIES forbides to upgrade on rooted firmware. Even if it allows you i think you will use your root. I suggest you if you want the latest stock rooted firmware use Odin find the stock rooted XWLSD(Nordic countries) and flash via Odin (Don't use XWLS8 it has bugs), XWLSD is super stable or XXMS1(Poland) or XWLSE(Russia) if you are not from this countries then use XWLSD. If you want custom rom with no mods and no bloatwares use Neat rom or Wanam lite rom, if you want custom rom with mods and no bloatwares use disaster, biftor, omega, alliance rom and etc.
Yeah. I dont mind losing root access. As log as I can get official ota. Btw has the exynos bug been addressed?

Thanks. I will be try updating my rooted i9500 and P600 via Kies. I am not sure if there is already an update for my region available for the S4 but I was prompted to update my P600 only to get a notification telling me that my device has been modified. This was for OTA updating. I really hope it works because I am really not looking forward to un-rooting these devices just for the updates since downloading the stock ROM takes forever. Will post results after trying just in case anyone is interested.

Look on www.sammobile.com/firmware for samsung firmware.Telia is not listed, also not on check fus. So i think you need this rom http://www.hotfile.com/dl/163050326/a3cfdf1/I9300XXBLFB_I9300NEEBLF1_NEE.zip.html for the Nordic countries. Install Triangle Away (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114) first before flashing the rom with Odin to reset the flash counter. After you flashed the rom do a data/factory reset. Check first if the above rom i mentionedis the right one.

If i flash the new firmware again, do i need to root the phone again or does it "keep" the root i made earlier... Sorry for all the stupid questions i'm an old iphone fart. :silly:
I tried to search for a sammy wiki or something to become a little more clever about rooting, rom and firmware.
As i see it:
The firmware is kinda the phone bios, doesnt matter if you running a hacked version of the system or not.
The ROM is the "system" it might be stock or cyanogen etc.
You have to have a hacked firmware to be able root your phone.... Or am i totally wrong here?

If you buy Mobile Odin Pro and flash the firmware with that app you will keep root and you don`t loose no data. If you flash with Odin on your pc you will loose root and your user data will probably be deleted.

Rooting automatically changes the status to modified. To get back OTA updated you have to go back to stock which means reset flash counter, unroot and flash stock rom. Or you just stay rooted and flash the rom you want via Odin/Mobile Odin.
There are guides to all of this in the stickies as well, maybe start reading there before doing any of above!
Thank you for replay. But I only began learning of Android from that side.

[Q] Quick Question about Galaxy S II Update via Odin.

Hello,
A friend of mine has a Galaxy S2 running gingerbread 2.3.4 and wants to update to ICS, but for some reason kies says that the version of the firmware is not supported for update. I figured that the phone must have been updated through Odin previously so I'm trying to update it myself.
I have a question though. Her current baseband is XXKG1. Does it matter to which firmware I update? I found the XWLPY ICS firmware, would it work?
Also should I ignore the PDA and CSC files when updating via Odin ? (some guides say that i should do so)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Tell him to go straight to jelly bean. Charge him with 2 beers instead of 1.
Here, just unzip that and flash the .tar in PDA.
If that modem doesn't work, just flash another one.
Back up your ROM and EFS folder first.

no the baseband flashed with jb will not affect here phone in anyway but may give you better reception, you can always change it if needed.

Downgrading from 4.3 to 4.2.1 and the No Network Issue...

Hello guys....
I am very thankful to the xda forum and all the members who helped me to get through a serious problem..
Recently I installed 4.3 Leaked version on my GT-I9300 and the ROM proved to be worst ROM of life. So I decided to go back to 4.1.2.
I installed the Stock ROM via Odin but I confronted a serious issue, when I was finished the installation I found that there was no network at all... Samsung's official told me that it is impossible to reverse the Android version...
I had no clue what to do. I flashed many ROMs but no solution at all. My IMIE was also kinda jumbled..
Many guys said it is EFS issue... But it is not EFS issue...
It is all because of different Modem issue.. all you need to do is just install a clean Stock ROM from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/ and Install the patched modem... you are done..
So here is the solution:
1. Download your desired Stock ROM for your Country from Sammobile...
Link http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/
2. Install the ROM via Odin
3. Root it and Install your favorite recovery.
4. Install the Patched MG4 Modem Zip in Recovery Mode. Link https://www.dropbox.com/s/geispctijpxqjms/Patched_Modem_I9300XXEMG4.zip
You are done....
This problem is all about MODEM version, so I don't think if EFS tricks are involved here.....
Finally credits go to all the XDA Members who put their heart and soul to present all the required guidance for me to be able to downgrade to lower Android Version.. I have only compiled the whole stuff into a single thread....
Thanks,,,

First time flashing a Samsung device, are there any risks involved in the above process i.e. wrong country and secondly, @featherknox why is a custom recovery required, is there no way to flash a stock rom straight over another stock rom with out it?

I can confirm that this method works. XEMB5 (4.1.2 stock rom) on top of the crappy 4.3 update, rooted it and then installed CWM. flashed the patch modem from the link he gave and the XEMB5 rom is working with network running again. but it seems like the battery is awful, 95% in just 10 minutes? lost 5 percent for that short amount of time -_-
then again, thanks for this!

My problem is little different. I can flash any ROM via Odin[DO NOT FORGET TO CHARGE YOUR MOBILE ABOVE 80% battery level!]:
1. Goto recovery by pressing "vo upl+home+power" release when you Samsung's bootloader.
2. Do factory reset/wipe everything.
3. Remove battery for 10secs. Then put it back.
4. Now press "vol down+home+power" to bring it into download mode. Then follow odin flashing procedure. It will work for any Samsung rom. No need to intall any custum roms.
Now going to my problems:
A. My s3 shuts down when it's idle.
B. Bluetooth button does not work. It tries to go to ON position but goes back OFF after 2/3 sec.
After downgrading from earlier 4.3 [SWC] I have even upgraded it with latest 4.1.2 xxemh4 but no luck!
Every thing works network, wi-fi etc. except above two problems!
Help me please!!
I FOUND SOMETHING, WHEN I DO *#1234* IT SAYS CSC: UNKNOWN though my network is ok and wi-fi works fine. Lemme try patching CSC as featherknox suggested!
@featherknox, But your patched modem can not be flashed in recovery[stock] mode as it says "Signature verification failed". HELP ME WHAT I SHOULD DO?
