Question on phone activation - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

When i bought my note II, i just took it home in the box from VZ and then stuck the sim card from my galaxy 3 into it and i was good to go immediately.
Now, I want to give the G3 to my wife to replace her aging droid charge but that has the bigger sim card.
Do I just go to VZ and ask for a new smaller sim?? She has unlimited data and I don't want to take any chance on screwing that up??

Sorry I don't have any information to help you, but did you purchase your Note II at full retail price?
-SlyG07

Just call them and tell them you need a sim card for your wife phone... give them her phone number and let them know that all you need is the sim card, that your not upgrading or anything . That you just need a sim card. I bought my note 2 and I was on a s3. My note 2 didnt come with sim so I had to use my s3 sim card. I went to the vzw store and told them I need a sim card for my s3 just in case I wanted to add the s3 and they gave me one.

Yes I did, so I wouldn't lose my unlimited data package.

Just stop by any Verizon store and explain your story and they will sell you one for about $12 +/- and you'll be good to go. It won't affect your unlimited data. :good:

Its no big deal, but I thought they where free from VZ??

A new SIM card should be free. Call them up and tell them you have a new phone to use on your line but need a smaller SIM, or just stop by a store and get one. Shouldn't take long and shouldn't affect your data plan either. It may take a few hours to restore full service once you get the new SIM though, just be aware of this.

5 year old sim card

I am a Vibrant owner with all the Team Whiskey goodness. My sim card is about 5 years old. Is there any reason to get a new one?

I think mine is coming up on 8 years old, still going strong!
I recently got my sim changed because Tmo store did it for free. I spoke to the rep about the advantage of changing to newer sim and he said that it will have new information about the tmo network, and that might improve speed. Also if your phone is getting delay text messages (few hours or days latter) then the new sim would fix it.
Mine old sim was 5+ years too and i didnt have any issue. If it free, why not!
Also ask the rep to keep your old sim in case you need a replacement sim. I think it cost about $10 for replacement sim.
No need to update the sim card. 6+ strong here. If you need a new one for any reason, do not go to an official tmo store. They will charge you $20. Your better off going to an authorized reseller. Preferebly like a target or walmart. A place where they dont really care and will give it away for free.
I actually still have the sim card that came in the box (still in the box). But When I got my Vibrant I just pulled my sim out of my old phone and put it in my Vibrant. I don't want to mess anything up but, would it help or hurt anything if I put this new one in my Vibrant?

I did the exact same thing as you. I would also Like to know if it will help switching to the new sim? If it does help switching to the new one, how do I go about changing sim and how do I transfer all of my contacts to the new sim.

T-Mo told me I had to update my SIM when I purchased my Vibrant. No charge, but no good explanation either.

When i got my Vibrant back in October i was not told to switch the sim to the newer one, but i was noticing really choppy really poor 3g signal. I did my research and the newer sims have something to do with it. Now since i switched to the newer sim my phone gets excellent reception.

Put the old one in and go to your contacts and press menu>import from sim. And then they will be on your phone. Call the number that came with the new card and activate your new one. Put that one in the phone. Open contacts, menu>export to sim and you will have them in your new sim

Mine died yesterday. I mean suddenly my vibbie pops up a message no sim card. It was 6 year old so I went to tmobile store and they exchanged it for free. They shouldn't charge you for that

If everything works
probably no need to change it. But probably no harm either.
I had a SIM that was more than 10 years old - going back to Voicestream.
The MyAccount app and WiFi calling wouldn't work with it, so I went to Tmo store and asked for a new SIM. They gave it to me for free.
My Wife and I had to change our SIM cards (over 10 years old) because they would not allow importing of numbers to the Vibrant. Nor did they allow us to sign in to the Android market. Took Tmobile a whole day to figure out what was wrong.lol
The only reason I have ever replaced my SIM card is when I have lost my phone and not had an extra SIM card. I now have 8 SIM cards... if you you really feel the need to replace it send me a pm w/ an address and I will gladly send you one. But if your SIM card is working there is no need to replace it.

No it should not be a problem if you go into the VZW store and explain the situation to them. Did you transfer the upgrade on her phone to your line? If so then you can do it from home but if you are using her upgrade from HER line, you need to visit VZW face to face.

Ok thanks, i have a VZW store right up town from me so ill check in 2moro. And no i didn't transfer the upgrade we just went and bought the phone. Im 16 so i did a bunch of research and this was the one thing i was unsure about. Also i've read that the SIM cards are very stubborn if they're not activated to the # they are assigned??? But yea thanks for the help man.
Make sure they connect the sim card to the right number for the upgrade. I opened a new line this morning and called Verizon to switch devices and they couldn't figure out why it wasn't switching, when they finally figured it out, I had to go into a VZW store again and it took them over an hour because it's so new.

Ok, so thats what im going to have to do then. Thanks a bunch guys, could i call the verizon Customer Service and have them do it over the phone? or does it have to be a new sim card programmed specifically for my number and they aren't programmable from a remote location? Sorry for so many questions after my original statement i just wanna find out what i can do. Thanks Again guys!

[Q] If I do this, will it work?

Hey Everyone! Quick question.
I really want to be able to use the Galaxy S3 on AT&T but I'm definitely interested in getting a plan with my sister.
She wants the IPhone 4S and I want to be able to use my S3 using a micro-sim WITH the $10/month unlimited plan.
Problem is, we're not on AT&T currently.
How do I go about getting the $10 data plan?
Here are my ideas:
1. She gets the iPhone, I get a basic phone with the $10/month data, and then switch the SIM card out and put it in the S3. Is that possible? Or will they detect that my IMEI has been changed from an AT&T phone to an unknown phone....
Ideas?
Thanks so much.
My guess is that it's entirely possible. I'm in Australia and people do that all the time, myself included.

Do you think I just should order the SIM card instead of the phone, and then cut the SIM card down to micro-sim and just use it......
I'm not sure if these plans are available in America, but in Australia you can get sim-only plan or BYO Mobile plans. They are plans that don't come with a handset and are generally cheaper.
Also, in Australia you can simply walk into your carriers store and ask for a micro sim or regular sim. They'll swap one for you on the spot and it'll be usable by the time you walk out.
When I first got my SGS3 I used a sim cutter to cut my original sim and it did work, but the next day I went to get a proper micro sim. There was no difference in performance on either sims.

If i understand correctly, you will be getting family plan or two lines. One line is iphone 4s and other line is a dumb phone with dumb phone unlimited data plan. You then want to put the dumb phone sim in sgs3? If this is the case yes it will work with no issues.

New Phone Questions

Ok so everyone knows that there are going to be a ton of new phones coming out this fall (nexus, DiX) and me and my bro have a few questions:
We both have rezounds and we dont have upgrades:
1. If i got a new phone at the full price would I need to activate it with vzw or would I just need to put my sim card in it? (i know i might need to cut if its a micro sim)
2. Similar question from my brother about an iphone (please dont hate on him he hasnt seen the light...):
if he got an iphone at full price would he have to take it to verizon to get a special nano sim or would he just cut it? I dont know if nano sims are different or not.
Edit:
3. wheres the best place to trade in a rezound?

To answer your question, you would still need to activate whatever phone you got from Verizon. Verizon customer support gives free 4G cards (Slim and non slim). They're actually really cool about that too. Avoid stores now, because they try to charge $10 for a 4G sim card.
Edit: I don't know where a good place to trade in a Rezound would be, but try to sell it on Swappa or CL.

Selling my Note. SIM question

I just upgraded to the S4 and am selling my note. I know the Note has a larger SIM. If I were to sell it would the person have to get a new SIM card from AT&T?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
It's recommended to get the right size sim card. At&t doesn't charge to replace them. There are cutters and inserts available. People even tape them in place but it always leads to problems. You could even botch up the sim port on the phone if not careful.

The sim is YOUR account information. It isn't transferred between subscribers.
Chances are the new owner will need to get an LTE sim to use the phone.
well hopefully someone will still buy it with the info given. Thanks for the answers
