[Q] I777 not booting after root then wipe - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Mistakenly posted this over in the I9100 forum first.
I tried to root an S2 with ODIN and siyah. Afterwards it worked but I noticed that the splash screen showed I9100 (I used the I777 file). Anyway, I later realized that the guy i bought it from had left stuff on it (he reset without wiping). I decided to wipe it and now it won't go past the splash screen and won't go into download mode that I can tell.
I was told in the other forum that I will most likely require a jig to get it to work. Considering I can't even root the thing right, I will probably buy one instead of making one. Does it matter what model of S2 it is on the jig? I see some that say I9100 but not I777. I just want to make sure if i order one I get the right thing.

What did you try to get it to download mode?

To get into Download Mode, I held down the down volume, the home button and the power button. The splash screen comes up but just goes blank after that. I'm afraid I may be out of luck.
Thanks for any suggestions you can give - i feel sick about this whole situation!

You should read the stickies... You're doing it wrong.
Volume up and down plus power. Leave USB disconnected.
Everything is explained in the stickies.... Read them

The sticky I am looking at doesn't coincide with what you are saying, which may be why I am confused. The guide says:
Boot into download mode by this method:
With the phone powered off, plug in the usb cable while holding the vol up + vol down buttons (but not the power button).
When the warning screen appears, press Volume up to continue into download mode.

Which is not giving me a dang thing. Doing your method or any other method only gives me the splash screen then black again.

Sorry. Volume up down and power is for recovery. Volume up down and plug in usb is download. The only way this would have changed on your device is if you flashed primary or secondary bootloader from the i9100
But based on what you said before is that you were following the i9100 method to get into the different recovery and download mode, since the i777 doesn't have a physical home button like the i9100

Well, I followed a video from galaxys2rootdotcom that said it was for I777 and the file I used said I777 but after doing it, the splash screen said I9100. If I hold down the powerbutton and or other buttons while it is not plugged in, I get the splash screen with the exclamation then it goes off. If I try it while it is plugged in, I get a grey battery icon. Sounds like best bet is a jig?

Check out my signature and download the adb portable from one of my previous posts.
It has a reboot download mode batch file that should be able to help you out.

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried it and when I plug in the phone and turn it on all i get is the grey battery icon then it goes off after a few seconds. thanks though.

Sounds like your battery is extremely drained. Try leaving it in the phone overnight and then use the wall charger in the morning.

Red - that was my initial thought but it was fine before I did the wipe and I did try charging it some. Also, when I did the wipe, it was plugged in, which makes it odd that it would die. I'll certainly give it a try.

One thing I noticed at home that I had not seen here (it was too bright to notice) was that it does indeed seem to be stuck in a loop. The screen flashes a little brighter every few seconds before going dim again. At this point, it doesn't seem that I have much option but to wait to try to use the jig to get it in download more *fingers crossed*, and then swear to never get advice from rooting from anywhere but here.

I got my jig in and immediately went into download mode, which was a relief. I went to try to reset to stock using the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659 . Everything okay but when it comes up to the welcome screen and try to click on the android to start, i just keep getting errors about google services framework stopping.

Thanks, I just saw something else that said I should do that, but I can't figure out what I need to do that since all I get is the welcome screen. Recovery mode? (Sorry, I got into download mode but unsure about recovery).
on edit: Okay got into recovery (sorry, this device is new to me).

Got it working now - looks fine!

That''' only work if he flashed the updated SBL... but sear, look around, there are guides to get out of that screen. Or better yet, get Heimdall, there's a command to get you out of it.

Try pulling the battery for 30 seconds then try the volume buttons then USB again. Also reboot the pc before plugging the USB cable in. If that doesn't work you may also try that same approach with the battery out of the device. I'm assuming that you're talking about the stupid battery charging indicator is the thing that keeps popping up amirite?

Heimdall I believe is linked to in the bible. As far as this situation, I was at a point a few days ago where I had no backlights and the screen wouldn't come on. Remove the SIM/sdcard/battery. Plug in the USB connector, hold both volume buttons, and re-insert the battery. This method has proven to work for me 99% of the time. Otherwise, you may need to buy a JIG that will pop you into Download Mode.

[Q] Problem with the screen after flash

Hello all,
I bought a m250l from korea, and it was working well, I tried to flash Lightin' rom on that phone, and now I can turn on the phone, but the screen doesn't work (it only shows some weird yellowish dots everywhere, I think one of the users have this problem too, but I couldn't find the thread). I can see the led on the Home and Setting button, and when I press the screen, I still hear it ticking. I think the solution is to go to Setting -> Debug and turn the debug usb mode on and reflash, but I can't navigate with the screen off :|. Kies doesn't recognized my phone. Any solution?
Please help and thanks
First question has to be is the rom you flashed compatible with m250l .
Looks like you need the USB jig to attempt to get the phone into download mode .

just make the usb jig, will post result

You have to power off the phone then insert the JIG, if it was made properly, you phone should go straight to download mode, if not try the button combination...

[Q] Frozen Galaxy S2

SO I haven't seen a direct answer to my question....
I did a software update on my Galaxy S2 and it downloaded fine. After the download it froze on the "software update" screen. It's a white screen with software up date above a progress box, but there's no progression showing. It just says "loading...."
How do I fix this? I've seen a few post with people having the same problem, but no answers!! It's been like this all day.
I have tried turn off and on with power button, as well as attempting a hard restart, but nothing works. The white screen pops up despite any attempt. Ohhh and I also already tried removing the battery.
Any help is greatly appreciated......I am a big noob when it comes to this technology, so PLEASE bare with me.
Still loking for help!! Any one!?

What device do you have (be specific - there are many variations of the Galaxy SII)?
ATT, SGH-I777. I've tried to do the 3 button reset, but nothing is working. No matter what it loads to the white loading screen. I'm getting really frustrated I touch the thing. It's taking all my might not to just thrash it.....it must be due to my lack of tech smarts.

Try this:
- Power the phone off.
- Plug the usb cable into the computer (not the phone)
- Hold both sides of the volume rocker down (vol up + vol down)
- While holding those buttons down, insert the usb cable.
Then flash the stock rom.
Gave me Odin mode. Any tips on what to do, or do I just follow the instructions? THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Awaiting the next step since I have no clue where to get file or how to set it up. Do I use Odin 3185? Or something else? Any links will help. This is a US phone if it matters.
I'd like to get it done today if possible!!!

Bricked my phone -_-

I bricked my galaxy note i717 beyond recovery with a regular jig. I've looked into jtag but I haven't found any information whether it's viable for the i717 (i.e. which jtag it's using, which box I would need, where I would need to bring it etc etc.)
So here's my question: Do any of you guys know any more about how to unbrick the phone or details about whether/how to unbrick using jtag?
Maybe I've overlooked something else. Here's how it went down:
I was stupid and tried to flash the phone with firmware for the N7000 because I was overexcited and didn't know that it wasn't an n7000. Now the recovery mode wouldn't let me upgrade (understandable reasons I guess) so I decided to force flash it with odin which also didn't let me upgrade the phone. So I used some method relying on adb. The process took way to long so I unplugged the phone mid-way through it, then replugged it and suddenly the process reported success. So the phone started rebooting just that instead of actually booting up it stayed black. Pressing any of the buttons yields no response - neither vibration nor any screen response. Using the usb jig also yields no response but I'm not entirely sure if there's a jig method that might work - or a key combo that might work - or even a usb method that might work.
Anyway any advice would be highly appreciated.
Did you try return to the store where you boought it? If your phone don't show anything on the screen, there is no way store knows what's going on with your phone unless you tell them the truth
That's exactly what I would do

That's not guinea pig. He did couple wrong things in a row (wrong ROM, god know what he is doing with abd and then unplug the phone in the middle of flashing or something). If I'd make a guess, he screwed up the bootloader.

I know on some phones that download mode can still be activated even if the screen isn't working properly and displaying it. I know many infuse users ran into problems and were still able to use Odin to flash stock and fix their phone. Try doing the hardware method of getting into download mode, and even though your screen doesn't show anything, it may still connect to Odin and you could try to flash back to stock.

Actually, you can brick it to the point of needing JTAG repairs to restore your device. That being said, it's very very very hard to brick it. You have to do something like flash firmware for a completely wrong device and screw up your bootloaders in the process.

I've read some so my suggestion is this:
First make sure that you have the drivers installed for your phone. Then pull the battery wait for a few seconds. press the down button and then the power to go in download mode and hold them pressed for 20s. Now plug in the USB and press the volume up button. If Odin detects it you're good to go! If not... Well it's worth a shot
My theory is that even though the screen is blank, the hardware still boots properly. Just make sure your battery is somewhat charged. And also plug in the USB AFTER you "boot" in download mode.

It's not that, we've all made mistakes, but it's like this guy went out of his way to try to brick the phone. This isn't like "oh crap, I flashed the wrong radio"
He tried to flash a ROM from a different SoC and every fail-safe wouldn't let him do it. I'm surprised at how well the different programs tried to save his phone, then he actually went ADB and forced it onto his phone and then he unplugs during a flash.
It's like he drove his car without paying attention and hit a fence that prevents you from flying off a cliff, then he kept ramming his car into the fence, then took some C4, blew up the fence, drove off the cliff, then started yelling "help, I fell off the cliff"

Tracfone... you mean the 959G from Straight Talk? If so, then yes; there's an entire thread devoted to your device you'd be wise to read through before doing anything else to your phone.
Regarding the recovery method, you have to hold all 3 buttons at the same time until you see the Samsung logo.

i do that and it just goes do the download mode.
Are you doing the three-finger-salute with the phone UNPLUGGED from a PC or power source?
for the i777, it's an important difference.
plugged in will take you to download mode,
unplugged will take you to recovery mode.

So i have done the research and i can't find ne thing. i have tried the button combination volume up volume down and power. and it just takes me to the download mode screen. the only way i can get into recovery is if i use one of the apps. i'm using the tracfone version of the phone. also when i have my phone unhooked from everything and i have it turned off the battery shows up on the screen. its weird lol. i'm running jellybean on it.
