Farewell - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

Well, looks like I won't be coming to this forum probably ever again. My inc4g unfortunately fell into a puddle yesterday. It snowed here so they salted the roads, so this was a salty puddle. I was already late for work so I couldn't go to a store and grab a bag of rice.
The phone itself appears to function, though the screens backlight won't turn on. It responds to touch, but I can't see anything. Yesterday the light was very very dim, and now today the light won't turn on. Upon opening the phone, the bottom wire (handling the backlight I assume) is corroded extremely, hence the no backlight. The top wire is perfectly fine, hence the lcd and touch screen being functional.
I don't know if this is a fault of the board being too corroded or the wire, but I'm not going to buy a screen to find out, so I'm back on my Inc2, and I'll either be saving to get a GS3 or whatever new comes out in a month or so.
:/

Sorry about your bad luck.
If you don't want the phone anymore let me know. I'll take it off your hands.

No, not only does the bootloader say "Tampered", but since it was submerged in water, all the white pieces of tape are red now, which shows signs of heavy moisture.

You can fix the "tampered" pretty easily now, even get it back to s-on *LOCKED*.
The white pieces of tape and the saltwater corrosion are a completely different story. Wite out?

[Q] Doesn't lie flat

Does anyone's handset not lie flat on its screen? Without anything on it (screen protector, case, etc.) mine can rock on two of the corners if I push them down. I noticed my iPod does it too so I thought it was weird.

Rezound durability. THUMBS UP

So, test of the times durability. Tried to get a top speed of my mini e-revo. So I thought, yay rezound! Used some velcro, strapped it to the top with a plastic grocery back over the phone due to snow. ... hit over 43 mph, before it spun out, hit the side of the road in concrete, flipped over, and slide upside down on the phone....
... Phone was fine, not even a scratch. Silicone cover, not even a screen protector.. And the plastic bag was torn off and gone by the time I got over to it.
HTC build quality and strength for the win.

funny, my thunderbolt battery cover broke just from frequent battery changes over 6 months, would not call that phone to be high quality construction.
Second, we see posts on here all the time asking how to get an exchange for a broken, water damaged, etc phone.
Third, list price for the rezound:

Can you tell if phone has water damage besides battery sticker indicator?

VZW is sending me a new Thunderbolt because of a small audio issue I was having with my phone. They told me on the phone if they detect water damage on my old Thunderbolt once they get it back, then I will be charged full retail.
Obviously I do not want that to happen.....thing is, I spilled part of a beer on my phone about 3 weeks ago. Immediately after it happened I took out battery and wiped the whole phone down.
It has worked fine since then besides the very small audio issue I recently started to have but this was just barely a week ago....I would think if it was cause of the liquid damage that that would've happened earlier.....
Anyway, is there any way they can tell if it has had water damage besides the battery sticker (Because I am sending them back the bare phone, no battery, no cover, no sd, no sim--just the phone)? How are they going to check? Should I do the rice trick just to be safe?
They probably won't look farther than the sticker. If they do, they could look for corrosion or residue around the main board.
Rice won't fix that

Yes but like I said they are just getting the phone back, not the battery, cover, sim card or sd card--just the phone. So since the battery will never leave my house, is there any other way they can tell?
As far as corrosion, wouldn't I notice my phone not working properly? Cause like I said, ever since the spill it seems to be working just fine....

There is a sticker on the phone itself. It is on the back right side of the phone near the top. Kind of hard to see, but rest assure Verizon knows it's there. If you have insurance, now would be the time to use it.
Check out the attached pics of where the sticker is. Sorry it's blurry, my camera is old and crappy

Underneath the battery, correct? What should the sticker look like when its dry and what should it look like when it has had liquid damage?
If they take apart the phone (or even just remove the back housing) then it will be very easy to see liquid damage, if any exists. I just replaced the screen on a thunderbolt a couple days ago, very easy to remove the back and take a look. If you want to check yourself, just get a torx 6 screwdriver, a thin flat head or knife to remove the "void" sticker and take a look for yourself before you find yourself on the receiving end of a $600 bill. Check YouTube for a video on taking it apart, it's very easy though.
How does Verizon check though? What are they going to look for?
Corrosion, internal liquid indicators. I don't think the T'bolt has any internal stickers, but some phones do.

OK I do not see the sticker you are talking about....snapped a few pics with my work camera, what do you think:
It's on the side of the phone. You'll have to tilt the phone to see it. It's white with red spots on it. If it got wet, its completely red. That will be the first thing they look for.

I stared at my phone for nearly 15 minutes and cannot find any stickers that are white, red or white and red. I don't see anything. I got my Thunderbolt on launch day (3/17/11). Is it possible the launch day Thunderbolts are different somehow?

Well, mine has a sticker there. Perhaps yours didn't come with one, or fell off at some point, but after looking a bit closer to your picture, I don't see one either.
Either way, specially since it was beer, they will be able to tell if anything got in there. Rice won't get beer out, it'll be sticky either way.
I personally wouldn't take the chance.
If you have insurance, now would be a good time to use it.

A small audio problem that is like teeny rattling I hear when other people call me
There is no sticker on the Thunderbolt, I just talked to Verizon. They go by judging the prongs that the battery hits and if they are corroded, then they charge full retail.
Mine look super gold though and appear to be okay imo......
That's really odd. I had a sticker there... The replacement I just got has one in the sale place too... Of course the Verizon rep didn't even know what a bootloader was... Go figure...

You probably just damaged the earpiece speaker, which is pretty simple to replace and would only cost a few bucks. I can't say for sure, but I imagine the earpiece speaker is the same one that's in the EVO 4G or HD2.
The phones do have stickers, it is located right next to the two gold prongs on the upper right corner of the phone.
If your that worried about a full charge for the phone and since this issue may be related to the beer spilling on it, just use your insurance and pay the $99 deductible. Its better then getting hit with $600 charge.
Sometimes when liquids are spilled on a phone, it could take a little time for it to affect a phone.
Good luck

After screen replacement, screen touching lcd easily?

So I replaced the glass part of my rezound yesterday, pretty much successfully.
But now that I have it all together again it is very easy to push the glass to the lcd and make it display those weird colors around the screen. You know what i mean if you have ever pushed too hard on your touch screen, or lcd.
I have been doing some research and I think I was supposed to put something between the glass and the lcd, not sure what though or were to get it...
If someone could let me know weather or not I was supposed to put something between the lcd and glass, and then were i could get it, I would be very appreciative.
Did you replace the old sticky tape that adheres the glass to the lcd panel?

Check amazon... And you CAN use your phone, you just might end up with some dead pixels or something probably best to not use it or avoid touching the screen as much as possible

I was looking at the shipping on it and unfortunately its like 2 too 3 weeks. I could probobly get that done today.

It's not just a digitizer. It's the digitizer, OLED display, and other electronics fused together (almost) permanently.
Home insurance will NOT cover your broken cell phone. Keep dreaming. Try not being so disconnected that you would leave an expensive cell phone on top of your car and not remember it. Beside the point, NEVER put anything on top of a car that you care about.
Always buy everything with Amex. Covered for anything for 90 days.
Sprint Insurance is a complete and utter rip-off.
Surprised homeowners would cover it.
This is why I bought an Otterbox Defender, I rather just invest in a new unsubsidized SGS3. Sell it for parts and use the extra cash towards the new phone.
