Thanks for your advice, but I've already tried that. I've uninstalled and again installed all drivers but problem persists
Sent from my MT27i using xda premium
Enable usb debugging
And try running flashtool on another pc
If it works there
Try reinstalling ur usb drivers ( of lappy / pc)

Hi,
I had my flashtool setup for my x10 but I have just rooted my friends ray.
It rooted fine but I could not install recovery or go any further than that...any advice please.
EDIT----
Now I have stopped being a noob and read further down the dev thread I have seen doom's thread on how to...i have passed this info onto my friend...
My Ray get's disconnected after one minute or so and no files could be flashed during the time it is connected, flashtool stays on "start flashing" (or something similar) until "flashing aborted" and the phone disconnects.
No problems with older versions.
So I have connected my phone in MSC mode to the computer, and I open up Flashtool, but it only tells me "30/012/2011 21:12:53 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off"
Is there a special way/mode I'm supposed to connect my Xperia Ray?

From the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
If your phone is not recognized by Flashtool that means you don’t have the required drivers installed.
Open folder /Flashtool/drivers and install ggsetup-2.2.0.11
If after the above Flashtool still doesn’t recognize your phone, do the following:
From Flashtool/drivers folder extract the zip file XXX_ADB_driver which corresponds to your phone model
Open “Device manager” on the computer and find the device which is with an exclamation mark on it (do this with connected to the computer phone)
Right click on the device and choose Uptade driver
Choose to find the driver manually and browse to the folder where you’ve extracted the zip file.
That should install the required drivers on your computer.
Click to collapse
Did it with mine today, worked fine.
Root Xperia Ray ST18a
Hello,
I have an Xperia Ray ST18a , and tried to root it with this tool, but the application doesn't recognize the phone. I already made sure the phone is in the correct mode (MSC) and installed the phone model drivers that are in /Flashtool/Drivers/ ... but still says "Device connected with USB debugging off" .
Could be that this tool is only compatible with ST18i and not with ST18a?
Please help. Thank you!
What version are you using ?
tried with both
Flashtool 0.6.4.0 - Windows and
Flashtool 0.6.5.0 - Windows
In different computers, ...same results.

Ok found the problem. Was missing this first step:
enable "USB DEBUGGING" from Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development
enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES" from Menu -> Settings -> Applications
set Connectivity mode to MSC from Menu -> Sony Ericsson -> Connectivity -> USB Connection Mode
Added the other two steps so can be helpful for anyone else having issues, make sure all of above is set prior to trying this tool to root the phone.
Thanks so much for the help!

All -
I cant seem to post to the development forum due to my lack of post counts. So here's the issue.
My Xperia S doesnt boot. what I did was I tried to flash it with the recently released ICS. When trying to flash using flashtool 0.8.6.0, it says, Drivers need to be installed for connected device. I did install the drivers from the driver directory on that came with flashtool.
I did some digging and found out that my computer isnt recognizing a device on the device manager. it is called QHSUSB_DLOAD. I searched the internet for a driver for this qualcom device but it wont let me update the driver. it seems that it isn't compatible.
I'm on Win7. anyone else having this issue?
Here is the log from flashtool

Fixed!!
Thank God for Linux.
@m1st3r1: as previously stated on my OP, I did update and installed the drivers but it wasn't recognizing it. Using FlashTool for Linux fixed the problem.
Hi everyone, i just changed my pc so i had to install flashtool and all the rest again.
i installed the SDK, flashtool (and the drivers inside the folder for my arc S) but when my phone was connected it didnt recnoze him telling me i had to install drivers.
So i downloaded PC Companion and let it install my right drivers , infact after flashtool reconized my device.
the problem is that when i reboot it into fastboot mode to flash a new kernel it tells me that i need the driver :\
i tried to install them manualy from "device manager" in window's setup but they wont install.
i hard resetted device, and uninstalled flashtool many times but nothing change.

Hello together!
I can't post in the Development Section, that's why I ask here (related to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916419).
I'm on Linux 12.04 and added /etc/udev/rules.d/80-flashtool.rules:
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ACTION=="add", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0fce", SYSFS{idProduct}=="*", MODE="0777"
Starting as normal user, drag-dropping the downloaded file (DL via torrent), gave countless red alerts with:
12/033/2012 14:33:20 - ERROR - No permission on device. Add valid udev rules
Click to collapse
So I ran
Code:
sudo ./FlashTool
and DragDropped the .ftf, excluded baseband and waited for the resquest to put the device into flash-mode, which I did (green LED).
Then the error occurs (complete flashtool log follows):

Any ideas, what this is about? Does "checking header" refer to the tft or to my phone?
It's a german, non-branded U25i, successfully unlocked with flashtool (x10flasher_lib/fastboot.linux).
Maybe the file is corrupted? Can someone send me the HASH of a working file?
Thanks for help,
Guntram

but I assume, the driver thing is only Windows-related. Am I right?
[edith]
Ok...it seems not to be ROM-related. I tried the "relock"-ftf, which failed the same way...
Any hint on what might cause these problems?
Thanks!
I tried it now on another computer (Ubuntu 11.10 64bit, this time) and I do get the same error!
Is there somebody out there, who can help?
Did I miss to setup something on the phone (USB-Debugging is turned on)?
+1
same here, xperia u, linux mint based on ubuntu 12.04
where is the problem
hi, sadly using windows there are no problems. and I would love to not use windows for it.
it is related with flashtool and ubuntu 12.04.
flashtool was fine with my x10 mini pro and linux, but it is not working with xperia u. also the mtp is a pain.
Virtual Box Windows under Linux works like a charme .
So the phone is "nicely" connected, but the flashtool doesn't work properly .
Updated flashtool to linux version 0.9.9.0 and now it works great

Are u entering flashmode by pressing volume down and power key??
If yes then its wrong
Download official ics ftf from development section of ur xperia
Download flashtool
Install flashtool
Go to c/flashtool/drivers
Install drivers for ur xperia
Now switch of ur phone keep it aside
Go to flashtool
Click thunder icon
Select flashmode
Select ftf
Check no final verification
Check exclude ta
Click flash\start
Now it will ask u to connect ur phone in flashmode
Press the volume down button, keep it pressed and connect to usb
U r done wait for flashing

error flashing. aborted.
think i have same problem as OP.
using Mint11 (ubuntu 11.10 64bit based) and flashtool 0.9.8 as i can't understand how to get libusbx working for flashtool 0.9.9
btw is disabling final verification dangerous?
i'll have to try virtualbox i guess, scared of this as more to go wrong with usb access.
update: followed this guide
(stupidly i can't include links, but its on ubuntu forum)
ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2084266
installed libusbx on a laptop (running Mint 14 KDE btw, needed gcc 32bit libs to compile it), flashtool 0.9.9 worked. yay.
I tried everything i see on web to root my phone. But it does not detect in adb mode while the phone is swithed on. i ticked usb debugging and install latest sdk, pdanet+ , drivers & every thing but no use. when i execute adb devies. it just shows:
c:\user\adb devies
List of devices attached
c:\user
what shall i do? But it gets connected to pc in adb mode when the phone is in fastboot mode(volume up+usb insert). at that time my pc shows Android adb interface. but not shown when the phone is switched on.
i need to root my phone urgently. somebody plsssss help me
Thanks in advance
Reinstall all drivers. I heard pcc installs them all for you.

Maybe Install flashtool and install the drives that come with it?

Remove the drivers first, then reinstall Flashtool drivers, report back when you have done that.
