i just rooted (but not any special ROM)and everything worked perfectly until a couple of hours ago when gallery showed no images/folders. i restored it to a backup with titanium backup which then showed my folders but when i clicked on them, they disappeared. i used a file manager to make sure they are there, and it shows that there are images there. has anyone seen this? is there a way to fix it? or am i boned?
I would just use quickpic from the market. Its free and way better than the stock gallery. Hope this helps.

What did you restore with Titanium Backup? Wouldn't the Gallery app be exactly the same as what you have on your phone? I would try Clear Data from Manage Applications. Also, where are your items stored? If on external SD, I would try to get my hands on another SDcard to see it that's not the problem. Very rarely, I get something like what you are saying, but usually unmounting and remounting the SDcard fixes it. Maybe try fixing permissions with ROM Manager or in ClockworkMod?
well i tried just restoring the data with TB and then i also did app and data an got the same results, i tried mounting and un mounting but that didnt work either. ill try another sd card

Thanks for the heads-up on Quickpic. So much easier to use and view than the stock gallery.
Hi all,
I've been using my Galaxy S2 for a few weeks, and finally decided my 16gb SD card was not quite big enough. I bought a 32gb card and used my PC to transfer everything from the small card to the large one. Then, I placed the new card in my phone and booted up.
Everything seemed ok, but then I noticed that I now have two of every media folder in my gallery app.
My first thought was that the folders and pictures must have gotten deplicated in the transfer process, but I checked with root explorer, and there is only one of each folder on the card.
Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
Thanks,
-Matt

Hey Matt
I think the reason your seeing duplicates of everything is because with android they store everything on the pre-installed sd card you can try to delete the old ones but make sure you make a backup before you do anything.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
don't delete anything.
Go to the media storage application under manage applications (in settings) and clear the cache for that app. You may need to reboot. then check the gallery to see if the duplicates are still there.
This happened to me a while back.
That was one of the first things I tried, but the clear cache button is greyed out. Should I try clearing the data from that app?

yes, clear data. that should work. that's actually what i meant before.
Hope it works.
Hello
I just flashed CM9 on my Infuse coming from ZEUS and I'm LOVING IT. Such a perfect ROM <3
I can think of only one minor bug (flashlight) but CM9 is beyond quick, gives me a lot of control, and I love all the many UI options. Thanks to anyone who was on the CM9 development team
I had backed up contacts to my SIM AND my SD card in addition to backing up through Titanium Backup before I flashed. Is there any way to retrieve them from any of these?
Restoring everything through Titanium (though I didn't try JUST restoring contacts, I ran the batch operation) gave me crazy frequent force close messages that forced me to reflash. I'm pretty sure that the Contacts backed up in Titanium while I was running ZEUS are no longer compatible with CM9, though I'm not sure. I don't want to risk the FCs again because I already restored everything else (which work absolutely perfectly)
Contacts>Menu Button>Import/Export>Import from SIM Card
^Told me that there were no contacts on my SIM.
How is that possible when I know I backed them up?
Settings>Apps>On SD Card
^Shows me that there isn't anything on the card at all. Yet when I go to Storage in the Settings menu, it shows me the correctly occupied SD card space and when I USB connect to the computer and browse the folders, all my old stuff appears. What's going on?!?!?!
I tried (and failed) backing up to Google multiple times before doing the SIM backup and Titanium (SD) backup. I dunno, I never got Sync to work for me
The XDA moderators might be mad at me for completely abusing this forum with the 3 threads in 3 days... This will be my last for a little while so that I'll ease their annoyance
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried importing from sd? If that didn't work Download some sort of file manager app. Find contacts backup, Should be in emmc, move to sdcard. Try to import again in contacts. The settings> apps > on sdcard is only going to show APPS that were installed/moved to your sd, out of the data partition. Definitely keep trying to get your contacts backed up with Google, so much easier. Hope this helps.
EDIT try the single restore for contacts in titanium backup

Thanks so much for the quick reply!
I tried the Titanium single restore.
Good news: No FCs
Bad news: None of the contacts appeared even though I got the notification that the restore was successful.
I even rebooted, ran the back up again and rebooted again after THAT to no avail. :-/
But there are no FCs which really is welcome news for me.
Regarding the other method you described: in ES File explorer, I couldn't find "emmc" anywhere. Is it its own directory? Thanks!

EDIT:
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! IT WORKED I FOUND THE .vcf, moved it, and everything imported!!! Thank you so much!
EDIT AGAIN:
There are FCs whenever I try to text through the stock messaging app now
On the plus side, it appears I got Google to work syncing contacts.
Just putting the info out there in case anyone else finds themselves in my position.
Try wiping data on your messaging app. Glad you got your contacts back

Hi! Could anyone suggest what should I do if my older photos disappeard from my gallery? I made a Fix permissions and an FXP133 reinstall (without any wipe, because I was an idiot and I wanted to replace the Contacts app but I failed and I couldn't restore the original Contacts app so I thought maybe if I reinstall only the ROM, it will working again). Before and after the reinstall I made a permissions fix in ROM manager. Now the Contacts app working, but I found that all of my older photos disappeard from the Gallery. It shows only those photos which have been made since the reinstall/perm. fix and my Picasa web albums. I checked in the file manager and all the photos are still there, but I can't make the gallery to show those photos... Should I reinstall the whole ROM again with wipe or there is an easier solution with less work? Thanks

I sometimes get something similar on my stock ICS where the camera, gallery or any other similar apps show the photos, videos or music that's on my sdcard.
I'm not sure what causes it, but I think it's an issue with the sdcard indexing. It's generally fixed by either deleting a picture (make a copy of one and delete it) or by adding a new one. That normally forces the phone to reindex the sdcard and everything turns up again. Sometimes I need to reboot first, but the issue doesn't last for too long anyway since I'm always taking pictures or downloading stuff.
It's a good excuse to make sure your sdcard is backed up though.
Thanks, but that way is not working for me, because since this problem cam up, I already made at least 15 photos, deleted some and not just the rest did not come back, but the new ones also getting disappear constantly... :S and meanwhile I already re-flashed the kernel and re-installed the whole fresh ROM (CM9 FXP133) with full wipe (fact. reset, cache p., dalvik) and the gallery still doesn't show the older/newer photos... So yes, now I think that the problem will be somewhere in my SD card too... I think I will backup my stuff and make a full format, that's my last hope... :/

That's good to know. Must have been a bad memory card. A lesson to us all..back up your phone!
Yes, sadly something definitely wrong with my SD card... And this is not the 1st case. Earlier, after a simple data transport from notebook to SD card (which I have already done a million times), my phone (and later also my notebook) couldn't recognize the card anymore... I had to format the card from windows' disk manager manually to make it work again. I hoped that it was just an accident, but after this problem which also caused by the card, I think I have to buy a new card shortly... (After 11 months using...)

the same happened when I flashed new sony firmware latest ICS
I have a 16GB nook tablet (kuzma30's CM10 ROM) and would like to use the emmc as sdcard to store pictures, downloads, etc.
The ROM is very stable, despite being an alpha. I believe that is the only issue preventing me from properly using it.
I see the emmc is mounted in /storage/sdcard0 and the external sdcard is mounted on /storage/sdcard1.
There are links (i believe) from /emmc to /storage/sdcard0 and /sdcard to /storage/sdcard1
There are some apps that require sdcard (gallery, browser for downloads)
I would like to use the emmc as sdcard to be able to use such apps without the need of an sdcard and store media content on the emmc memory.
After digging around I've found that by editing the /system/etc/vold.fstab I could swap the mounting places of emmc and external sd. That would make the sdcard appear as emmc and the emmc appear as sdcard, which would solve my problem. But that solution didn't work on my nook, it didn't change the mounting points.
After more digging, I've found that the proper way to swap the storage locations was to add a line to /system/build.prop, with the persist.sys.vold.switchexternal parameter set to 1. That indeed worked and swapped the storage locations, but created some issues. Whenever I open some apps (like gallery), the process android.process.media crashes. Sometimes it even crashes alone.
I am looking for a solution to use the emmc as sdcard, since 16GB storage is plenty for me and I don't wanna use an sdcard in my NT.
What I believe are possible solutions are (however I don't know how to do):
Create a link inside /sdcard pointing to /emmc
Create a link inside /storage/sdcard1 to /storage/sdcard0
Mount the emmc to more then one location (to /storage/sdcard0 and to /storage/sdcard1/emmc)
Find some other way to use the persist.sys.vold.switchexternal that doesn't cause processes to crash
I have tried to create links, but they don't work for gallery or downloads.
What I would like to try now is to mount emmc in more than one location, which I have absolutely no clue on how to do (and I've already googled).
Or maybe there is a way to stop the processes from crashing. That would solve my problem too.
Other solutions are also accepted and appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your time and help.
I am also interested in this, as I have multiple family members and friends with NT which would like me to root and flash CM10, but I don't want to have to buy SD cards for all of them..
Clear Dalvik cache.
I did this by editing vold.fstab. Be CAREFUL about editing this file, because if you mess it up, you can make CM10 unbootable.
Here are the changes I made:
dev_mount sdcard1 /storage/sdcard1 10 /devices/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/mmc_host/mmc0
dev_mount sdcard0 storage/sdcard0 auto /devices/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/mmc_host/mmc1

That worked. I did try swapping the lines earlier, but I swapped the second part of it, not the first. And kept emmc instead of sdcard0 and sdcard instead of sdcard1. Thanks for the solution.

I am hoping for a solution to this as well. I rooted a nook for a friend and I will give it back to them without an sd, but i want them to be able to use gallery and stuff so i need the internal memory to work as an sd
Didn't work

Time for a bump, not solved yet.

I doubt there is much interest in solving this from the people that have the know-how needed. After all, it's not really much of an issue as long as you keep a small sd-card in the Tablet. You can still use internal storage for most of your media (music, pictures, video). Apps like Gallery or Meridian Widget need the card to write small amounts of data, but they are happy to handle media in the eMMc storage.
Having said that, a sloution would be neat and I'm sure in time it will come!
Installed CM10 on new NT this weekend. It has obviously made my nook a lot cooler, but it sure would be nice to store books, pics and other media in the internal ,memory - sort of being back some of the nook...
I don't seem to be able to save anything to internal memory, despite plenty of space. Is that to be expected? When I look at settings -> storage it seems like I have two 8 gig memory allocations. Can neither be used for media download.
Sorry for noon question. I tackles the root with no probe thanks the the great guides here.

You can certainly save stuff internally.
I would very much like to do this as well on my hd+ running cm10.
Still looking for a solution. Nothing yet. I would appreciate if somebody could bring this to kuzma's attention since I can't post at the developers thread yet. As I said, I am able to swap the memory location, but that causes the media process to crash.

I doubt anything has to be brought to any of the hard working developers attention regarding this issue. I'm pretty sure they are completely aware, but don't consider it much of a problem compared to other things that needs sorting out. After all it has a mega-super-duper-easy fix: Pop in a 1GB (or smaller even!) card and forget about it!

That "mega-super-duper-easy fix" does not actually fix the problem, it just provides a simple workaround. There are users, including myself, who would like apps to have access to emmc like they do the sdcard. I don't want to waste one of my microsd's for something as trivial as this. This should be brought to the developers' attentions, as it is a bug that needs actual fixing, and not a gimmicky fix. If we show a decent amount of support for the issue, the developers may prioritize, or at least acknowledge, it, and we may have a solution in a reasonable amount of time.

No need to get your jimmies in a rustle. Personally, I have been scouring the internet for information about emulated sd cards, and have been meddling with the config files to see if I can think of anything. I am not nearly as knowledgeable about the workings of the android system as any of these developers. If we get someone who is genuinely familiar with the configuration of this tablet and software to look at this, then we can have this fixed in a jiffy.
Meanwhile, I'll keep everyone posted if I find a permanent solution...

It's not so much about having or not having an SDCard.
Many of us who make use of SDcards as storage media for entertainment content while away the home on the road would like to be able to swap these cards every so often -- but that would break some of those apps that store their operation data on the external SDcard that gets swapped out.
