Build DevKit Portico Update - Nokia Lumia 920

Hey Guys,
Has anyone with the Build Devkit version of the phone seen the OTA update? I'm on Rogers in Canada and I understand the phone isn't from them but still wanted to know if anyone else has seen the update on their phones and if I should even expect to receive the update anytime soon.
Any idea if we're going to get the update at all or are we supposed to go through Navifirm and lose our data?
Thanks!!

Nokia is saying that unlocked and international phones will have to wait until February for the update. We have different firmware than everyone else and it's not on Navifirm at all. I think you might be able to flash to the rogers firmware but it may or may not work (and/or brick it). Might have to just wait until February .

That sucks.
You'd think that the Devkit units would get the update first but apparently not.
I guess I'll have to wait till Feb. Not willing to flash a Rogers firmware.
Thanks for the heads up!

[Q] If rooted will i be able to recieve update for update from rogers?

I was just curious to know that if i decide to root my phone will i be able to receive updates from rogers ? since the Android update is coming i don't want to hear that "i wont get it cause i rooted it".
Thank you
I'd have to say yes. I set mine back to the old 14 firmware and made sure it read 10a then did the official update. As long as the Rogers update is above the f/w you're installing IMO you'll be fine.

[Q] Three (H3G) Branded S3

Hi Guys,
Just a quick question here that I cant seem to piece the answer together for. I have seen in the forum requests and talk about Three branded S3's and just wondered if anyone that has used it or knows more than I could tell me.
1) Apart from start-up logo is there anything else on a 3 branded phone that's missing or cant be removed without needing to be root or re-flashing it?
2) I directly asked the guys in the shop if they change the firmware/ROM and they said no when Samsung release updates you get them instantly, would that be true? I mean if its branded doesn't that mean it goes through the network to tinker before release?
I ask as my HTC Desire was from T-Mobile and they took so long to release the 2.3 update (If they ever did) I went custom ROM and while I can always go custom or flash an unbranded ROM out of the box I could just go to carphone warehouse, etc and buy it unbranded in the first place (For a slightly worse deal) and the fear I feel flashing a brand new phone is quite high
Thanks,
Snowdan.

i can tell you that its not true., i also purchased it on three UK and the firmware it came with was the inital release one which is I9300XXALE8_I9300H3GALE4_H3G which i believe was released in may, i tried to update to the latest one via ota and kies but it kept saying my software is uptodate. which was a lie. i then installed I9300XXALE8 (4.0.4) which is a unbranded version and check on kies and immediately it prompted me for an update I9300XXBLFB (4.0.4) which was released 26 June 2012. I9300BVALE4 (4.0.4) was released 13 May 2012.
i had to change the CSC so that kies would recognize my device and allow updates.
check this thread and video it'll explain all

Thanks for the response guys it sounded unlikely. I will take the non optimal deal and have the unbranded out of the box just to save the upfront effort. Once I start flashing ROM's I find it hard t stop and would like to use this vanilla and unrooted (Hoping for Sky Go ICS support one of these days) for a bit.
Thanks,
Snowdan.

[Q] Flashing a different Product Code

Hey peeps,
I flashed a firmware with a different product code to my Lumia 920, and everything works fine. It came with CV-HK but I flashed CV_AU (Australian unbranded).
Just wondering if I will receive OTA updates since the firmware uses a different product code?
I am worried that when Nokia stops allowing users to access NCS, that I will be forever stuck on the current build of the Aussie firmware and wont receive updates (if a future update process checks the product code and blocks the install).
Should I leave it, or should I flash the CV-HK back to the phone just incase?
So I guess that no one has any idea? I've asked everywhere and haven't been able to find an answer.
i think the product code is stored in permanent memory, so likely what will happen is that it will check for OTAs/updates based on your actual product code, basically if you update it will likely just reflash the branded software

I cant imagine an OTA update being 1.2 to 1.4GB. That is what it would take to re-flash a different firmware over the existing one.
I thought that it would notice an incorrect Product Code and not update, or hopefully it would just detect the ROM your using and flash the updated version of that.
Wish someone from Nokia/Microsoft could clarify. Time to hit twitter.

Would also like to know. Can't find a South Africa Portico update so want to update to a EU variant atm but don't want to lose the South Africa Portico OTA when it is released.

[Q] Anyone recieved portico eu_euro1_276

Hi, has anyone received the Portico update for unbranded CV_GB OTA for eu_euro1_276?
I flashed the pre portico EE rom and the update appeared straight away, but when I flashed back to CV_GB pre portico rom the update does not show up so I'm assuming that the update for that variant has not been released yet.
Can anyone say otherwise?
unlocked devices seem to have not got the update yet, hang in there and you'll get it soon

It seems that most manufacturers are now doing the same thing, waiting for carriers to check their settings etc then rolling all the settings up into the unbranded rom. I did have a galaxy s3 and it was the same with jelly bean rollout. The unbranded rom came almost last! I think it's because in the past phone manufacturers rolled out unbranded updates first but if the settings for carriers were wrong it was the carriers that got it in the neck from customers!
Oh well I'll keep waiting, I know I could flash from ncs but I think I'll wait for ota. Im fed up installing apps again from scratch because for me backup only ever restores my text messages and nothing else?

OTA updates in US for international model

Does the international model (G8441) have any issues receiving carrier OTA updates in the US? Does it depend on the carrier network, or will I have to manually flash each new update?

I have a G8342 (dual SIM) on T-Mobile US. I had been getting regular updates without issue for months, until the latest, 47.1.A.5.51. For some reason my version w/Taiwanese firmware hasn't received it even though most others have. According to XperiCheck it hasn't been released for that variant yet, don't know why.
I am considering flashing to some other firmware that gets updates more regularly, but am a bit reluctant too because the battery life has been great with what I have and don't want to mess that up. :|
I also have the G8342 on T-Mobile in USA and I still haven't received the latest update. I bought it on Amazon so I was thinking it would've been the USA version but ah well I'll just wait patiently.
have you checked to see which regional firmware you have? (you can do this at XperiCheck.com)
Update: Even tho there was no update available thru OTA, I plugged it into my PC and checked Xperia Companion. It still said no updates were available but I still did a software reset. This updated it to the latest version of 47.1.A.5.51 (WARNING: this deletes all data on internal storage).
