So, I currently have a Galaxy Gio running 2.3.x, but I'll be getting a S3 Mini next week.
I have lots of savedata I don't want to lose, like Hill Climb Racer and more.
Is there any way to transfer the savedata, if the apps are on the SD?

Tell me, then.
as far as i know
to copy your game data is from titanium back up
but the target device must be rooted too
Without root you could try looking to see if the game stores its data on the /sdcard. If its stored under /data then you'll need root on the new device to copy it.
I'm surprised there isn't a way to back up game save points, app data, etc to your Google account.

Ohh.. You need Titanium Backup for data backup and restore.

I did try that, I copied the XML file over onto my SGSII but it failed to restore them. I'll try again.

Did exactly that along with Internet bookmarks from my SGS to my SGSII with My Backup Pro off the market, there is a 30 day trial version just called My Backup. Worked with no problems.

Thats strange. Well not sure what file is what to be honest. I simply copied everything from my sgs to my sgs2 including the sms back up apk. worked like a charm. What version are you using? im using 3.7
I used my backup pro to transfer everything from my nexus to the galaxy, copied the entire rerware folder from the nexus to the galaxy then had to point the galaxy to the rerware folder in the settings menu of backup pro.
Which part of the backup/restore is failing?

It might have been that accepted when it asked to check for duplicates or maybe it was because I removed the 200 text message per thread restriction, either way it worked.

Is there a way to migrate SMS cross platform to SGS II?
I've used SMS Backup + to go from Desire to SGS2. Not sure if there's a WinMob equivalent that would work.
Edit: Found this

does this work with restoring apps and app data also?
if so could i use it on my sgs1, ensure the data is stored on my SD card, then with the SD Card in the sgs2, restore my apps, app data, sms etc?

Works perfectly. Kies seems to work as well.
SMS Backup & Restore did the trick for me too, the only caveat being that because I moved the whole SD card containing the backups and config from my Hero to my SGS2, when I started the Backup & Restore program it was looking at the wrong path for the xml files and so didnt initially see my backup files.
Editing the path in the program preferences menu fixes this.
Already mentioned, but https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result
SMS Backup+ works brilliantly.

It should do, there is an option for this, but you need to be rooted on both devices in order to do that particular operation. I wasn't at the time i used it.

Ecstatic and overjoyed.
MyBackupPro should work.
I have my p500 working flawlessly with v18.0 & froyo final. I recently installed the exact same setup on my friend's phone. The only problem is that she is telling me that the edge icon never appears / appears briefly and disappears. All the data settings are right according to what i've seen. (I've also installed the same setup on multiple p500)
She's not with me right now, and isn't quite sure to pull thru the nand backup/restore/flashing/ instillation and stuff.
The question is, suppose i set up everything she needs on my phone and nand back up it and ask her to restore that backup on her phone? Will it work? Has anyone tried it? I don't wanna screw this up for her.
Please assist me.
First: Wrong section
Second: Yes, it's possible, did the same to my wifes phone (we both have a P500).

Is exactly the same thing no worries. Just make sure you partition the sdcard properly like yours in case you want to restore sd-ext apps
Yes you can, as said above make sure sd partitioning is same. I used a stock rom nand backup that was posted on xda by another user when I wanted to take my phone to warranty services. It worked fine.
Did you backup .androd-secure?

You may want to try it without .android-secure and see if that works and/or wipe android-secure on the other phone. I'm thinking out loud here. I've never actually tried this so take it for what it's worth.

Android secure contains apps that are moved to the sd card (froyo apps to sd). So if you restore it you will find those apps. You can easily uninstall them later. Haven't tried this, taking an educated guess.
Suppose I have apps like widget locker making use of data from the sd card (the theme), will they be affected in the phone onto which they'll be restored?

Yeah, I suppose, if widget locker was enabled at the time you made the nand backup. If you really don't want any of your apps in someone else's phone then restore your backup to your phone, do a factory reset (or uninstall all offensive apps) , and then take another backup.
so i got the s3 two nights ago (eep!:highfive
and i want to transfer all my game data (ie, saves) over from my Desire Z.
contacts, sms, photos etc arent a problem.
its just the games! well, not just any games, the kairosoft ones. i dont want too lose all my hard work on those little things!!
anyone able to help?
neither device is rooted
Desire Z is running 2.3.3 (stock)
S3 is running 4.0.4
i tried using a program via pc called "wondershare mobilego for android" but it didnt transfer the saved games. same with "moborobo" (it has the option, but only for rooted devices!)
i also tried transferring via sd card, and that didnt work either D=
i was told mybackup pro would work - fail
i've seen many people suggest titanium backup in my searches - however i have heard that it will only back up game data if the device is rooted
i am happy to root the s3 if needed to install the data (providing i can find a simple guide XD - i like to think i am pretty tech savvy, but this is just something i havent done yet!)
i've searched for hours already and from my understanding, both (?) devices have to be rooted.
however, i have seen (unless i misunderstood) that if i root my Desire Z to do the backup, i will lose my data anyway (before i backup that is).
is this true? or am i understanding this wrong?
p.s sorry if i posted in the wrong forum. wasn't sure which one :/
You have to root.
Root Desire, install TiBackup, backup any apps you need.
Root S3, install TiBackup, tranfer microSD from Desire to S3 (in which the backups are on) and restore through TiBackup.
Simplest way I know of, and you don't lose data from rooting.

or am i missing something?
[sorry, new to the whole rooting/flashing etc so trying to figure it all out ]
Titanium backup usually backups your apps to the external sd card. Anything on there is safe from rooting or fully wiping in recovery. Installing custom roms on it will not delete anything on it.
If you want to be extra safe, I would copy the titanium backup folder from your external sd card to your computer, so you have another copy of it in case something happens.

Thanks for clarifying
However it is my understanding that you need to root your phone in order for Titanium to be able to back up your game saves
So. My question is... does rooting cause you too lose data because that would defeat the purpose for me
No rooting will not cause loss of data.

All Rooting does is modify a few system files and if you didn't know it was Rooted you'd never notice the difference, and to put it simply everyone who's scared to Root can end up losing years worth of data when they get their new phone so you have to balance the tiny negatives with the huge positives.

ok, so to recap...
(sorry guys, just want to make sure i've got it straight in my head before i do anything!! i'm not ignorant, i swear )
i can root my desire z using this method: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting
(can someone confirm if i need to downgrade my firmware? across various tuts i've read they all say something different - or nothing at all! currently running 2.3.3)
install Titanium Backup and backup all my game saves
THEN
root my S3 (still need to google an easy to understand method, but if you know a simple one let me know )
install Titanium and restore my game saves :fingers-crossed:
AND in this process, i won't lose my data?
NOTE: neither device has and ANY modification, both are completely stock at this point in time.
p.s i had someone mention to me that i need to unlock my bootloader to root the device, and unlocking the bootloader will cause data loss. is this true?
Anyone able to confirm above post???
Would really like to get my games transferred if it's possible

Without ROOT access, /data is always empty. Try this, and see for yourself.
The only way he can pull content of /data would be via ADB and he will still need root to copy them to the other phone.

I thought that /data is always visible, no matter if the phone is rooted or not... nevermind.

Never could try but it should work. Here is an example with Dead Trigger 2. To know what is the package name of your game go to Settings > Apps > All > Select your app and you will see it.
Go to /data/app and search for the right package name. The one of Dead Trigger 2 is com.madfingergames.deadtrigger2.
The file you have to copy/paste to your 2nd device (same directory of course) is com.madfingergames.deadtrigger2-1.apk.
This is a manual method but you can do it through a 3rd party app like Helium.

Hi there, there are many apps on the market you can use to backup apps/games + data ( I use Titanium Backup), it's very easy to use you just install it and find the games you want to backup and it will automaticlly backup it's data and progress.
You should install the app on both devices and then send the files from "Titanium Backup" folder to the other phone and RESTORE the game (the game's progress will be automaticlly restored).
That should do it. Enjoy.
