Browser/Chrome file download - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

More often than not, when I try and download a file from a file-sharing site (e.g. rapidgator, uploaded..) it will complete instantly but will say the download failed. Any suggestions as to why?
Thanks

I get this all the time. Try using dolphin browser to do your downloading and chrome for surfing.

[Q] browsers displaying mobile view even after switching agent

I've run into an issue where I'm unable to get any full version sites to load on my atrix. I've used both the stock browser and dolphin HD and can't seem to get it to work. With the stock browser I've done the about:config changes to desktop and with dolphin hd I've tried switching the agent to desktop, yet still have problems. I even tried the dolphin toggles addon for dolphin which just displays the mobile regardless of swapping.
Anyone have any ideas?
Some sites just wont do it... thats about all I can say. Im sure its a moto issue due to the fact that my cappy can load the same sites in full mode.
had the same problem, Install Firefox (In Market) solved all of my complaints with the browser.
some sites will not do it and if they do they will have a link for it at the bottom of the page. For instance some say "Desktop" or others will have the title of the page like ESPN.COM. clicking any of these will pull up the full site. Firefox mobile is a good solution but does not have Flash so if you don't mind that then FF mobile it is!

Skyfire is nice and fast

Stock browser vs custom and other browsers

Guys I am curious. What is your preference? Between all those custom browsers vs stock ones, which do you like and use?

Stock, it just does everything so smoothly. I have never needed any other features already present in the stock browser.
I prefer using dolphin browser but i also use the stock one too sometimes
After testing some popular browsers in the market by myself, I have this conclusion "Stock FTW".
Dolphin browser for xmarks and lastpass integration, and a exit button, though the tabbed ui is nice in theory, in practice its a bit of a pain.
Same rendering engine as the stock browser so web pages look the same.

i prefer stock, but I cannot start any downloads with it. Every download I start fails automatically. Anyone have a clue?
Alternatively I use Opera Mini. It's really smooth and fast, has the ability to compress images and to download!
I've tried many, and while ones like Dolphin HD, Opera and Firefox offer more features none of them can match the stock browser for fluidity.
Only the stock browser is hardware accelerated (Samsung did it themselves) from my knowledge, hence the smooth scrolling even with flash.
I use Dolphin but sometimes stock browser. Also when I can not connect to 3G network due to its limited coverage in mountains area I prefer Opera Mini which is faster and does not need so much traffic.
Miren and xScope are the only 2 I use. Tried most of them. Hate stock

I used to frequently delete the stock browser along with the bookmarks widget and replace with dolphin but lately I'm sticking to stock... this whole new motion thing with Samsung is sick!

My thoughts exactly. The stock browser is by far the fastest for me.
ive tried stock, dolphin hd, dolphin mini, opera mobile, miren, xscope, skyfire, firefox.
the best for me is stock. the added features of other browsers cant make up for the speed, fluidity and (less)battery consumption of stock.
among the alternative browsers however i recommend opera mobile just because its text reflow is just so good and its almost as fast as stock. downside- battery consumption and doesnt do 100% native flash
a close second would be dolphin mini for its gestures and tabs. but its just not as smooth as stock and also uses more battery.
Stock browser has hardware acceleration, so it will be faster and smoother than all the other browsers out there. There is no practical replacement out there. Nuff said
Regards.
I use stock mostly but for the occasional just quick check ups I use Firefox.
Stock as well as Opera Mobile
Both are cool!!

I'd prefer the stock browser over any other alternatives out there just because it is hardware accelerated. The Galaxy S II has redefined mobile internet browsing and taken it to a whole new level.

It's I think a limitation of Android 2.3 that it won't download file types for which there is no app installed on your phone. An easy way that I use to fix this is to download Astro file manager, and in it's preferences there's an option to 'enable browser downloads' (or something like this) and this basically associates all file types with Astro, so the OS thinks that there's an app that can open the file.
Btw I use the stock browser usually, but when I get over 8 tabs I 'transfer' them to Dolphin and continue with that .

[Q] Download become htm... Need help :(

Hi, I have a problem that everytime i download something like game at browser (dolphin, skyfire) its say download complete in just a second even its big file and the files just around 5kbs~10... how to solve it? Need help Please :|
try opera browser should work.
You can try xWindDown app, which is free.
Opera is a good option, but in my opinion, for downloading and stuff, doplphin hd is the best browser around. Stock browser wont let you download many a things, which are not supported in the phone. I personally use xwind whenever there is a need of resume support, and otherwise its always dolphin hd browser. Works like a charm for me.
@garry and sudip thx for reply i will try opera now... btw... is it xwind from market? i search dint c it shown up :O

Unable to load specific website

When I try to visit this site:
https://members.premiereinteractive.com/
I get this error:
Connection problem
A network error occurred
Webpage not available
I can visit their unsecure page and their syndicates' sites. Page loads fine on my droid phone. Its a syndicated radio streaming site.
I didn't try it with HC, I've got the latest ICS.
It will load in Opera, but then the Flash radio player doesn't work. Can anybody get to that page on the stock browser or Dolphin?
I think this is an issue with the TFP browser. Would at least ONE PERSON try to visit that site please?
I tried and get the same result as yours with ics browser+ too.
Thanks. I'm thinking there's a problem with the ICS browser.
Edit: Tried with Dolphin hd and ics browser same results.
Opera loads fine.

I'm having a similar problem, but with this site and the bbc.co.uk site. Neither the ICS browser nor Dolphin will load. However, Opera will load the pages just fine.
I've noticed this problem is intermittent, though. Sometimes the stock browser will load xda - in particular, in worked right after I reset my router.
Also, I was unable to load https:// members.premiereinteractive. com/ in the stock browser (but it was fine with Opera).
Just tried it on my prime and had the same problem. Strange
Maybe the website is trying to forward you to a mobile page that does not exist yet.
Opera does server side loading.
I get this one too and I see opera can't seem to load flash. I keep getting the you need to install flash icon. So this isn't an isolated issue, I suppose this thread could be sent over to premiere to see if they can see if it is on their side. Mostly things work well but for this site.

Browser shuffle
I have several browsers on my tablet due to the fact that there are issues with certain websites. I have Dolphin mini, Opera, Firefox, and the OEM that comes with my transformer prime. Opera will not work with my bank, Firefox has some issues with certain other sites, and so does Dolphin mini. So I shuffle around to find the browser that works with the site I am on at the time. This appears to be a common problem with the browsers available.

Dolphin Browser HD

Hi!
I've been using Dolphin Browser HD on my stock Froyo ROM for quite some time now, but I've come across some various bugs:
- Serious stability issues:
I would normally browse the web and then all of a sudden browser would hang (loading a page for a very long time) and then my whole tablet would slowly become unresponsive or just behave strange (apps gone missing, Launcher crashes, every app I would like to start would automatically FC,...).
After restarting the tablet everything would be back to normal.
- Some flash SWF content would show as binary code (CWS):
Example:
Original link: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_gti9070_galaxy_s_advance_shows_up_in_photos_and_video-news-3737.php
Somethimes flash content is shown and sometimes it's not.
I even encountered a SINGLE HTML page that a part of page would show flash normally and other part would just show the CWS binary code.
On my Galaxy S phone on the same version of Dolphin Browser HD this page would show YouTube flash object normally.
I've searched thru Google and couldn't found a single result, therefore I have a hunch that nobody could help me with this issue but hey, it's worth a try.
How is the stability of Dolphin Browser HD in HoneyComb after 30 minutes of surfing the web (ViewComb, VegaComb, HoneyIce users are all welcome to post)?
Also how is that YouTube flash object shown on your tablet?
Thank you!
I also use Dolphin HD as my prefered browser.
I have use various versions of Stock, CM7, VegaComb, HoneyICS
I have had issues with Dolphin giving FC's, hanging etc... in all until now
Currently I am running ViewComb 3.2 Build 6.3
Dolphin Browser has been fine ever since I moved to this.
Haven't tried later builds yet.
I also like ViewComb because it is an nvflash install making it quick and simple to install.
I too had issues so I uninstalled it and got chrome which works great!
Hope this helped

But for Chrome to work you need ICS ROM.
The latest ICS ROM is still in beta / development stage.
Wasn't Dolphin the browser that routed all traffic through their servers? (and no not as a speedup service like Opera). It sounds like its time for a different browser with all those issues? Chrome of Firefox do the job nicely.
No, Dolphin Browser Mini routes all traffic thru their servers, this is Dolphin Browser we're talking about.
I since then changed to Firefox, all the crashes are gone and I just checked that gsmarena page I complained about in my first post and instead of binary code I get that the plugin for this content is missing.
I still like Dolphin's UI better, but I found a translated version of Firefox's apk file which is a nice bonus.
The way I see it Dolphin uses Android's internal WebKit which in my case is outdated and buggy and therefore causes system instability and crashes.
While on the other hand Firefox uses its own Gecko which is more mature (I use the latest version of Firefox).
I would also like to try Chrome, but that requires Android v4.0+.
