So I've been scouring the internet and forums and I can't find any good info on this topic. I bought an Apple TV 2 a couple of years ago and jailbroke it. It works fine but I've never been a fan of the Apple OS and everything else I have runs Android. With the proliferation of Android TV sticks I'm wondering if there has been any development done on running Android on the Apple TV 2? I'd like to not have to spend the extra cash on another streaming device.
Thanks.
Nothing?

Sorry if this has been covered elseware but can android be used as the OS of a computer? I was just thinking how bad assed it would be to have a touchscreen carputer in the dash running android. Would be even better if i could sync it with my phone when i got in the car... So everything that was on my phone could be in the car and the car could teather from the phone?
It's called Android-x86 but I'm not sure how stable it currently is.
It would be a pain in the ass as phones and tablets are based on ARM CPUs which use a completely different architecture: CISC vs RISC so a large amount of emulation has to be performed and would run like ****.

Finally got a minute or two to actually look into this and there are quite a few ARM mini-itx and nano-itx boards out now. I even found this: [Well I guess I can't post links yet but a company called parrot makes an android powered headunit already, there is a maximum pc vid of it at ces, I guess you gotta google it yourself...] Not exactly the look I would be looking for but at least there is not only an interest in this but companies actually doing it.
I didn't know about the androidx86! That is awesome. Thank you for the intel, I now have something new to learn about.
Buy a nook color.. put honeycomb on it.. make a dash mount.. done
I threw that android x86 thing on an asus eee701 netbook some time ago. I was unfamiliar with android so only used it for 5 mins and went back to XP. But it seemed to work in general.
I use a nook in the car now. Its ok but being black, it gets really hot in my windscreen mount. It also needs a bt gps which adds a layer of complication.
Well I got excited when I saw XBMC on android a week ago and I know its been out for awhile but it does not load on my Google TV (Sony GSZ-GT1) surprise surprise. Nothing ever loads on this.
My question is though, I see that it works on almost any android that is above 4.0. I was thinking about buying a little cheap android stick from my Chinese friends over at DX but was curious if anyone saw an issue as to why it wouldn't run on a generic device? The device I am looking at is 4.2.2 so it should run without questions right?

Ok I know this might be a dumb question, I did read a few of the topics already so don't crucify me lol
I'm thinking of swapping to the z2 from a galaxy s3 (i've been sitting on this thing for way too long). I have a lot of samsung stuff in my apartment, things like allshare cast, mac remote app, smart remote. I'm sure I should have no problems pairing my phone to my smart tv's and my NAS provided there are android apps for it. For some reason I just have this feeling that anything samsung in terms of connectivity that's non-DLNA is proprietary and I might be missing out on something if I swap over and find out later my phone can not talk to my in house devices. I have 3 smart TV's, mac book pro, and a NAS. I like to think that all these devices have apps on the android platform and I could easily just reinstall these apps and pair the new phone to the devices through out the house like I currently have it setup with my S3.
Appreciate any insight.
I was wondering if anyone is using the N9 for presentations like PowerPoint? I have found that the N9 does not support Mircast or hardwire connections to projectors and I am completely taken back by this. I would never have expected this from Google, especially since they marked the N9 as a productivity tool.
I was using my Samsung Note 10.1 but it is stuck on 4.1.4 or something like that I have not rooted obviously. But it casts to Mircast and it own Samsung cast system. The problem is that it can not take advantage of the new PPT apps like the upgrade Polaris. You need at least 4.2.
So now I have a great device that can use the office apps (the real office is come soon for free) and I can not project.
Anyone have some uplifting thoughts on this?
dave
do a search for "Chromecast without WiFi" I could swear I read something recently that will let you cast directly to the CC. also.. you could consider one of the travel router options that let you have your own local firewalled WiFi setups/repeaters.. run about 40$. I'm already looking into them and will report back what I find.

I actually put in a couple of chromecasts to the TV screens at work for this purpose. wish google came up with an offline feature for stuff like this.
I'm looking to upgrade my first or second gen WDTV Live, I'm not sure to what though. I was looking at the Razer Forge TV but that doesn't have a release date yet. The Nexus Player is also a possibility although I'm not strongly considering it because of it's lack of ethernet port. Searching Amazon for "Android TV Box" I see a couple of very highly rated Gbox MX2 and Gbox Q media players. But are those full Android roms instead of the new (hopefully more user friendly (media player specific)) Android TV roms?
I'm most likely only interested in media playback (I don't know much about the Forge TV's pc game streaming). Any recommendations on whether I should go for one of these options or wait 6 months until the Forge TV is out and/or other players are available?
Thanks
I thought about putting this in the Android Stick Computers subforum but I'm really looking for a full media player box with remote...
I would wait for the Forge TV
It looks to me like the Forge TV is going to come out end of Q1 ( less then two months). I am personally waiting for it as it will do more then any box on the market at that price .
I am new so can not link the sub but there is a sub reddit for androidtv /r/androidtv
More info if you need it in this subreddit.

I guess you don't have enough posts even to thank, but thanks for the reply. Yeah I'll probably wait until at least the Forge TV is released so I can see the reviews/community thinks about it. Maybe something different will be announced in the mean time as well.

What are the good features of forge tv? Is it expensive approximately?
Hey guys, heres some useful information to help you out .
So google tried to launch GoogleTV but failed when too many 3rd party hardware developers released it on bad peforming low end hardware.
Google has abandoned GoogleTV and created AndroidTV, and this time around they have set a minimum hardware requirements to run it, hopefully meaning that anyone should get the same experience, reguardless of what hardware box they purchased.
So technically it shouldnt matter if you buy NexusTV or ForgeTV, or any of the many hardware releases that will come out this year, they should all perform the basics the same
I also know of the NZXT Doko, but again, wait two or three months and you are garunteed to see heaps of androidTV boxes hit the markets, doesnt look like early adopters will be punished (hopefully)
Beelink R68
I am looking at the Beelink R68 TV box... It's fairly new. Seems to have the best features and latest Android version available in a TV box... But, New enough that I can't find how to root it.
So, I have 3 questions...
1. Does it have to be rooted to watch live PPV TV?
2. Does anyone have one and what's your opinion...
3. Does anyone know a good TV Box root site?
